  1. At least Reed, Arcia, Magifico, & Lopez made AAA..... Good to see Flanigan move a couple of real prospects up the latter.... SP Ortega Hader Houser Johnson Wang 2 J. Nottingham 3 G. Cooper 4 C. McFarland 5 N. Orf 6 J. Bethencourt 7 V. Roache 8 B. Phillips 9 T. Taylor Bench Nick Ramirez Brandon Macias Nick Shaw Kyle Wren Parker Berberet
  2. Well Clint Coulter fed to the sharks, cross him off prospect lists. In Biloxi he could have thrived instead they threw him back were his bat doesn't stand a chance.... He has until mid May to hit his way out of there before the air is to thick and dense to travel. Any hitter with lift in swing is doomed in BC come June. Throw in Houser, Phillips, & Hader.... Brewers love for AAAA players over prospects at AAA is always super annoying and only hampers the development of younger prospects. Sure Biloxi should just smoke competition again this year but disappointing.
  3. Monte Harrison should not be considered in the same sentence as Taylor, Reed, or other expandable players. He may have the highest ceiling of any OF in our system and very well could be Lewis Brinson in 2 years. He is a guy you would be kicking yourself for, can't give up on him because he struggled with his first advanced placement at 19 in A ball.
  4. Think it is pretty safe to say Cuas and Iskenderian are skipping over Wisconsin. They both have started nearly every game for BC and seems there spots in Wisconsin are already filled by Gatewood, Neuhaus, Diaz, Aviles. Think both of those guys are potential breakout type players. Cuas is more raw still despite being a college guy but Iskenderian I think very well could end a solid MLB player. To bad they are in BC and numbers will not reflect much. Diaz, Harrison, Gatewood....have yourselves a giant ST! If their ST is any indication, those 3 will blow up this year. Gatewood will regain his top flight prospect status after his free fall to the 16-20 range in most ballots (in fairness our system is just loaded now so that doesn't help)
  5. Thought Houser was locked into the rotation at AAA?
  6. Think it will go fine, there are very few pitchers in baseball who are that lights out with command and stuff. Grienke, will carve guys up like that, Madbum is very crafty in those ways, Kershaw & Scherzer maybe. What he is saying more often than not, a pitcher is going to paint the edges every single pitch and if they do good for them, they earned the K. Most pitchers will get at least some white and he will go after it for a hit or at least foul it off.
  7. wow didn't read that.... How absolutely disappointing that is if Clark doesn't make it the Wisconsin roster. He proved everything he needed to last year I felt in both AZ and Helena. He isn't Lara or Demi O who are loaded with potential but raw and didn't see many abs above AZ. As of right now I would gladly take Nichols over Flanigan with the way he placed Phillips and Hader, now Clark and Collymore may waste away in extended ST for no reason. Hate Directors who baby prospects and are against challenging them at all. Let them sink or swim a little bit. Find out where they are. Some like Gennett and Taylor take off running, some like Coulter and Harrison will need some more time but at least you figure it out. Rant over, rosters haven't even been released yet so I get its unfair for me to judge or be critical of Flanigan. Just wish we were like the Rangers and Astros who really push and challenge there players. They are scared to advance place players. Im not sure there is a team or scout in the league who looks at how mature and advanced Clark is for his age and think he should not be in full-season....outside of maybe the Brewers
  8. Hader is facing the Brewers in the Biloxi exhibition game (tweet), a pretty good indicator he'll be with the Shuckers. Thanks, I missed that. With Hader and Phillips ticketed for Biloxi, Coulter recently playing for BC (I know that doesn't necessarily mean anything, but ...) and Clark not mentioned in Mehring's article today, the placements are seeming really conservative this year. Coulter imo is 99% chance in Biloxi this year, that is first time he has played down. Clark seems highly likely to make the Wisconsin roster. He has had a very strong spring at the plate. Were players play don't always matter too much. Lara has spent a lot of time filling in on Biloxi and Colorado Springs. Overall though, with the large amount of AAAA players they have filled AAA with, that will cause a lot of younger players to lose out on advance placement. Hader and Phillips in AA to me is an absolute joke. Hader destroyed the league for 2 months and Phillips thrived outside of his power numbers. Hate when players aren't challenged. Astros & Rangers are great at pushing prospects through the system and challenging them. Brewers under Nichols outside of a few Wisconsin aggressive placements have long been very babying of prospects
  9. Bad day, anyone who has played baseball or even bar league softball has had them. You make that first error it bugs, your upset at yourself and press a little more....you make that 2nd error in the same inning, you really start to get mad at yourself and frustrated... Then a 3rd one happens. As a MLB player you need to be more mentally tough but those days will still happen. Same goes with offense. There will be days were great contact hitters K 3 or 4 times. Not worried. He will be coming off bench and/or short end of platoon, his defense will not hurt him to much. 3B maybe since he hasn't played there much but honestly...look at some of the guys we have played over there recently. Jason Rogers couldn't field or throw a ball and still was getting starts.
  10. Brewers have already said Hader is staying in AA to start out the season. Phillips has played pretty exclusively in AA since returning. With all the AAAA OF they have sent down and have, predict Phillips/Taylor/Coulter OF to start season in AA
  11. Less than a week to go until rosters are announced, very curious how they all shake out. Wisconsin 1B Alan Sharkey 2B Tucker Neuhaus SS Isan Diaz 3B Jacob Gatewood C Max McDowell LF Trent Clark CF Monte Harrison RF Troy Stokes *DH - OF Carlos Belonis/ CIF Juan Ortiz Bench C Charles Galiano UT-MIF Luis Aviles *UT CIF Juan Ortiz OF4 Malik Colleymore *OF5 Carlos Belonis SP 1 David Burkhalter 2 Jake Drossner Tandem 1 Freddie Peralta/ Miguel Diaz 2 Marcos Diplan/ Drew Owenby 3 Trey Supak/ Nate Griep Jon Olczak Quinton Torres-Costa Alex Faria David Lucroy BC 1B Dustin DeMuth 2B George Iskenderian SS Angel Ortega 3B Blake Allemand C Dustin Houle LF Brandon Diaz CF Omar Garcia RF Elvis Rubio DH- OF David Denson C Mitch Ghelfi Super UT- Fidel Pena UT-IF Jose Cuas UT-OF Johnny Davis UT OF *David Denson SP Cody Ponce SP Bubba Derby SP Angel Ventura SP Kodi Mederois SP Devin Williams AA 2 Jacob Nottingham 3 Garrett Cooper 4 Chris McFarland 5 Taylor Brennen 6 Javier Bethencourt 7 Tyrone Taylor 8 Brett Phillips 9 Clint Coulter C Rafael Neda IF Nick Shaw IF Brandon Macias OF Victor Roache OF Jose Pena SP Josh Hader SP Jorge Ortega SP Hobbs Johnson SP Brandon Woodruff SP Wei-Cheing Wang
  12. Coulter is going to go AJ Reed this year at Biloxi. I won't be shocked if he is at 15 bombs by June 1st. I expect a monster bounce back year, BC can make any power hitter look awful
  13. Broxton better be opening day CF for this team, I he gets optioned down.....grrr I'd be upset
  14. I'd be really disappointed if Ponce doesn't tear through BC pretty quick and have a strong campaign in AA this season. He just appears to be a guy who is advanced and built to move quick through the system. The hype on him since Fall Instructional has been off the wall. Honestly, I just have a feeling Harrison, Gatewood, Diaz, Stokes and Clark are going to blow up this year at Wisconsin. If spring is a sign of things to come, this could be the best and most exciting T-Rat since Brewers took over. They are scoring 7-8 runs a game, Gatewood & Harrison are on HR binges right now, Diaz is collecting a double or 2 a game, and Clark & Clark are just never not on base. I'm not even talking Lara, Demi or any of the guys who may start out in Helena. With a good draft, if these players play the way they are capable, and mix in a Lucroy trade, we will be #1 or no lower than top 3. Gatewood I think will rise more than any player in the system. I can believe how much everyone has just dropped off on him. His swing is long and K's a lot but he is a helium guy for sure.
  15. Another day, another homer for Gatewood & Harrison. Diaz had RBI double. This all per Cheis Mehring's tweets
  16. It appears many of our top prospects are crushing right now! Appears Strokes has 3 hits a day, Harrison, Gatewood, Clark, Demi O, Diaz all have their names popping up frequently with big games
  17. I think Gennett is doing everything possible to make sure he is out there every day. Guy has always hit. Never really given a shot verse lefties outside a game here and there. Still only 25 (same age about as Walsh, Perez, Villar, and all the other young guys on this roster outside of Rivera). Feel a lot of people have written him off because of the terrible start last year and bad track record in limited ABs verse lefties. I hate how little he walks and hopefully that can begin to improve but for this season, there is nothing to lose. Throw him out there everyday and really find out what you have in him. He has filled out even more this year and he is starting to flash more power that we kind of hoped he'd develop. With Liriano out, I would go with IF: Rivera & Walsh OF: Broxton & Pressley Pressley seems to be a good vet bench guy. Good OF in all 3 spots, better bat than Kirk. Walsh over Perez since Walsh will walk more times in a week than Perez will in a season. Their hit tools are similar. Perez has flashed a little more over last year and this spring. Big thing is I want a guy off the bench who will give you good abs and take walks late in games to get us back to the top of the order. Guys like Flores and Walsh will give you that off the bench, guys like Perez will not. If Perez was a starter then I could deal with it a little more but I want good at bats from my bench players.
  18. I asked BrewerPD if Tyrone Perry was injuried since he hasn't been playing but apparently he is healthy & just not playing at all.... Dog house? Weight still going up from the 305 in fall instructional? Really curious about what the deal is with his natural/advanced approach at the plate
  19. Down side to Perez is he wont even walk his age this season. Rivera has everyday plus defensive ability at 3 positions and his bat has been playing. I get Stearns loves Villar but Rivera seems like the better offensive and defensive option as of right now. Villar can be a super utility and still play a lot but Rivera has been outstanding.
  20. Either Roache ot Coulter (or both) need a 1B glove to add to their locker in the next year, unless Braun is traded or Santana falls flat on his face, neither of those guys have much of a future on our club. Coulter I really like and understand he has a big arm but if his pat lives up to potential, he needs a spot. AA will be a big year for him.Tyrone needs to bounce back big in AA this season. Reed looks like he won't be much of a CF option soon with how big he is getting. He is still a great athlete but not sure he projects much there anymore.
  21. Broxton is one of those Lorenzo Cain late bloomers. All the tools you could want, uber-athletic, but started out more of an athlete than a baseball player. He will only improve with AB's. Let him play this year, next year once Phillips is ready, he can be the nearly everyday Parra type 4th OF....him or Reed
  22. Thanks and that is a shame. Sure after I ask they write an article on it lol http://m.brewers.mlb.com/news/article/167940412/brewers-yhonathan-barrios-injures-shoulder Also naturally after I make some less than stellar remarks about Middlebrook and Niewenhuis, they have really nice games. Still Broxton, Liriano, and Flores are the 3 we need to keep. Pressley deserves it the most as of right now but honestly, do you keep a 30 year old 4th OF during a rebuild over a couple 23-24 year olds? Feel bad for him but its about the future. Walsh 0-0 BB Liriano 0-2 2 more k's......not helping himself very much Flores and Broxton continue to hit a little bit each adding 1. .808 OPS for Broxton so far. Forgot Morales was a lefty, think he will take spot of Nolin and Cappy
  23. See no reason to hold Phillips or Broxton back. They are priority prospects. You need to see what you have in Broxton and Phillips outside of power numbers proved he doesn't need to be in AA. You don't hold back your top prospects so marginal prospects can play ahead of them. Guys like Wren should be dropped back down to AA over guys like Phillips
  24. Is anyone else frustrated with the lack of information for minor league camp this season? Usually I can find a good deal of scouting reports, box scores from games, BrewerPD had daily line-ups and stand out performers. This year....dead silence is appears outside of a few Frosty Microbrew articles, Chris K's scouting reports for a few games, and that is about it. Chris Mehring going down there soon to start blogging?
