1. Catcher Jose Sibrian 550k and outfielder Jesus Lujano 350k in 2015. I completely forgot about Lujano. Considering what we use to spend this is still a good amount of money. My complaints are that we have only signed 1 international player in our history for over 1 million dollars (Lara).
2. Ummm, what? Lara. Lara yes.....how many other Top 30 international prospects have we signed over the past decade? Mallen & Pierre where steps forward, then he got Lara but very little else. Most of our DSL team was 21-23 year old cast offs from other teams. He got a few steals in there Otano, Luna, Sibrian (was 29th before all the Cubans kicked him off.), Atencio, Segovia, Y. Martinez and Valderrey & Hernandez show promise. Still we cannot rely solely on draft, trades, and hope on finding some cheap diamond in the roughs, While all our top competitors are battling and being aggressive for top notch international prospects. But we can someday sit back years from now and say at least we signed Lara that one year.... Simply we need to do more internationally. Many teams have multiple DSL teams, we struggle to even field one. I know our old facility/Academy was pretty bad there but didn't we get a new one?
3. I wish I knew what it was like to be a fan of a team who cared about the international market.... At least Braves know how to rebuild. Trade top MLB players for top prospects, draft well, and aggressively pursue to international players..... We have been drafting good....sorta trading for prospects, but not spending a dime on international prospects. http://www.baseballamerica.com/international/three-teams-will-break-international-bonus-pools-2016/#.VqliB434W4E.mailto
4. Someone said they'd like to see current Blue with old Yellow with ball and glove so I went of that. Wouldn't my choice for a rebrand. I not a big fan of the dark navy blue. I am a big fan of the BP style jerseys. Logo in top left instead of the lettering across the front.
5. Please go back and see what Cecchini hit at those levels at a similar age. .322/.443/.471/.915. 47 extra base hits 23 SB's 94 BB to 86 K. Also Cecchini can field both 1B & 3B. Moreover, he is not a liability in in the field. Is he going to win ton of Gold Gloves, no. But, he is not going to hurt you or be a liability either. So please explain to me how he can't hit or field when clearly at the same levels and age, the major difference is Cecchini walks a ton more, Mancini hits for more HR power. http://www.overthemonster.com/2014/3/5/5473208/garin-cecchini-and-the-importance-of-the-hit-tool Boston was in love with his bat until he had his struggles in 2015. His hit tool and ability to walk were considered top of the line.
6. One who is blocked, coming off a brutal season, and the one they can most afford to lose on the 40 man. He wasn't on the Phillies. The Red Sox have a strong 40 man 1-40, tough decision need to be made and there was no place for him. Shaw has proved he can hit at MLB level. Hernandez had a big season this year, dominating AA, and performing well in AAA. Same goes for Coyle, has had all good years in the minors. If Cecchini doesn't have worst season imaginable, he is probably not the odd man out.
7. Part of the excitement with Martinez was he was signed RIGHT when we got back into DSL League. The 1st season we were with I believe the O's and he was one of the few Brewers who was a starter to follow (2009) Then the next season he was an anchor of our own DSL team (2010). Played in 2011 with Arizona, 2012 with Helena and has been out of baseball since. Looking at his numbers he was pretty terrible....not sure why I was so high on him.
8. Andres Martinez was suppose to be pretty good but wasn't a bonus baby really. He never made it past Helena. His defense was very bad and he was moved off to 2B/3B I believe. $750,000 given pitcher Rolando Pascual in 2005 was the highest they had ever paid prior to Mallen & Pierre. Wily Peralta & Roque Mercedes were around 450k I believe. H. Arias and Jose Garcia were 250K. Not to many other bonus babies I can think of.
9. I think Brewers just need to make some splash or show some life and interest in international signings. Outside Gilbert Lara, we haven't done much at all. Pierre & Mallen were 800k & record signings a few years ago. Last year we got Sibrian who was ranked 30th or so. Ultimately, Brewers are non existent and fail to compete. That is a lot of talent to not compete for. You will find your Arcia's & Escobars for almost free here and there but you still have to go out and compete to get the best talent available. I really though Lara was the turning point for the Brewers, then they decided to almost completely sit out last season.
10. Surprised they are so down on Brett Phillips. He has done nothing to lower his stock at all. Jorge Lopez will be the 3rd one, and the last spot would be between Hader or Clark. I don't think BP over values draft position as much as mlb pipeline and some others so my money is on Hader.
11. I understand Middlebrook, but Cecchini is a different story. They signed Panda so that already doomed him, He had his first not great season when he got to AAA. He got called up and played well. Last season, he for whatever reason had an incredibly bad season. He has always been a big walk & natural hitter type guy. Not much power but he could get on base. His K's have never really been worrisome. 2016 will be his age 25 season, I don't think overall he has simply forgot how to hit and walk. He could really be a steal if he bounces back. He is more of a Jeff Cirillo type 3B as compared to the big power bat of Middlebrook. I easily still consider him a good piece for the future. Before last season there was little doubt at all he would be a major hitter. He had a very professional approach at the plate and now he needs to get back to that.
12. Actually something more like this
13. Did this quick during my lunch but something like this is kind of what you were talking about right? I'd like it.
14. Prospect for Prospect, Tyler Wagner if he doesn't appear that he can move ahead of Davies, Lopez, Hader, Houser? Wagner could always go back to the pen as well (college closer).
15. Add Jomar Reyes and we got a good package going. For me anything with O's has to be with Sisco and Reyes included. I have a very hard tie considering the trade otherwise. Honestly, I know it will be confusing but if they want an OF/DH, they should be looking at KHRis Davis to be the splash brother with CHRis Davis. Hard for them to afford Chris Davis & Braun, Machado will need megabucks pretty soon....Khris Davis is cheap for next 3-4 years. They will be locking there future around the success of Chris Davis & Braun for the next 5 years. Even with Davis, I demand Reyes OR Sisco. I do like Mancini as well. "Cecchini fields the ball at 3rd and guns it to 1st, great scoop by Mancini!" Ceccini to Mancini is a great combo name.
16. I'm flip flopping all over the place. He was top 3b prospect in baseball today by milb pipeline. I wouldn't be disappointed unless it was a straight up trade. To me there is just more value in getting multiple stud prospects over 1. Profar & Arcia double play combo I would love. There is a reason why a few years ago Profar was the most sure thing, can't miss prospect in baseball. Injuries try to strip that from him but now he is healthy, I have a feeling he is going to rise up.
17. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/01/cuban-lazarito-armenteros-free-agent-mlb.html Good read for more information, bad news is because it's not July 2nd yet, all those teams like Reds, Dodgers, Giants, Royals, & etc are allowed to bid.
18. Lazarito" Armenteros is the 16 year old phenom out of Cuba who is already 6'2 205 with power & speed. He plays OF, 3B, & 1B. He is arguably the top talent this year, even above DR phenom SS Kevin Maitan. Younger by 2-3 years than Moncada, he could be then big Cuban prospect. He official can sign Feb 10th now & plans to do so as soon as possible. He will count against international signing slots money. So far there is absolutely zero information about what teams are in play or how much money he will command. With nearly half the teams realistically out of the running, anyone else think this is the time for DS and the new regime to come out and make a statement about there direction. Braves have already landed Maitan....they are proving themselves and dedication to the future. I think Brewers need to pony up. Abreu & Moncada they were in finalist list for, time to land one of these Cubans. What are your thoughts? What you willing to pay?
19. Honestly, that's not a bad idea. Brewer fans will buy stuff no matter what it is because we are Brewer fans. Brewers unlike Packers, are lucky that they do not have tradition to stick to & can rebrand anyway they want. I see nothing wrong with bandwagon fans, doubling merchandising sales, & bringing in the younger generations. I have liked Marlins since my early teens in large part due to their jerseys (Josh Beckett & Miguel Cabrera helped that). DBacks, Rays, Giants, Rockies (when they started the vest jersey trend) are some other teams I like better due their branding. That and way they develop their own players. I like Astros a whole lot better since their rebrand. Never underestimate the good a great rebrand, color scheme, logo & design can do.
20. I am a huge fan of the Astros rebrand and how they kind of mixed the past with a new spin. A lot like what the Bucks did with their rebrand. Bring back the traditional green of the bucks, throwing the cream to represent the "Cream City" history and blue for the great lakes. The last two are represented the city, the green represented the rich Bucks history. I am hoping the Brewers go this route. Never been a big fan of the dark navy blue and gold These are interesting, at least the concept and different logo idea.
21. With the rebuild & changing directions of the franchise, Brewers should have a rebrand to follow the new wave. Brewers aren't a "Tradition" team like Cardinals, Cubs, Yankees, Red Sox, etc. and like the Bucks use a rebrand to aid in adding excitement to the future. Say we get Gallo for Lucroy, we have Gallo,Arcia, Phillips, Lopez, Hader, and other guys coming as our future we are selling....like Astros did, rebrand around it. 2017 if 1st option. Otherwise our big wave (R+ to Wisconsin) should be pushing to join Arcia & gang by 2019 where we should be real competitive again. 2019 would be the next rebrand option.
22. When it goes to rebuilding Braves have done it beautifully. They made tough call after tough call to better their future. They have a head start on Stearns but really we haven't trade any tough pieces to improve team yet. I trust in DS but hopefully he doesn't hold his chips to long. Smith hurts arm, Lucroy another concussion, Davis has a season like he did 1st last year, Brauns back or thumb don't hold up, Segura continues to get worse, Gennett plays like 1st half last year..... All these are big deal breakers for their value. Then again by holding one to them, they may go Parra & improve stock more. Overall, we are a month away from spring training & have yet to make a tough decision. KRod was easy decision, Lind was only retained to trade, Sardinas & Sneed were little moves
23. Brewers have only lost 100+ games once in the history of the franchise and that was 2002 with 102 loses. Only 11 times in our history have failed to win 70 games (92 loses). According to people on this forum this is literally the worst product the Brewers have ever put on the field. The awful teams in the 70s were better, the terrible teams in 90's were better, the miserable teams of the early 2000's are better....and many people with how many games they expect Brewers to lose think we are worse than 2002. Brewers were 37-42 from July 1st to the end of the season and 24-30 from August 1st to end of the season. This roster isn't that much more "horrible" right now than it was in August/September. Considering for good amount of September we had no Nelson, Lucroy, Braun, and all the other guys who were out with injuries. Do I think we are competing? Absolutely not. Do I think this is the worst Brewer team in our history? Absolutely not. My guess is we finish with somewhere between 72-90 to 67-95. You literally need to fire sale entire team like Astros to lose 100 games, we haven't done that.
24. Pretty good article http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2610920-jonathan-lucroy-could-provide-big-trade-impact-as-all-star-level-catcher
25. I guess it depends if Gallo is all we are getting in the deal. I'm split on it. If it is just Gallo for Lucroy then no. If we can squeeze out a couple more prospects then yes. I just see more value in Brinson, A top Pitcher, rookie ball prospect(s).
