I absolutely love the trade. Rogers is solid bat but I didn't see him as a big part of the future. Many uber-athletes like Bruxton just take awhile to really begin to click. LoCain, Gomez, Mike Cameron were all around 26 when they finally started to click . He has shown a lot of life lately with his offense and his defense is outstanding. He is are first real option to play CF for this team. At worst, you get a kid who can be an elite defender, just hope his bat will pull enough weight that he can stay in line up. He K's a lot so that will hurt him but he walks 60 times a season at least. It seems as if Arizona pushed him to quick and didn't really develop him much. That and it would appear the hitting coaches with Pit were able to fix more with him. Supak could be a steal. Very raw right now but a lot of talent and upside. Pirates have a fairly good system still and he is already #15 with zero results so far. He cut his walks this season which is good and is just a shade under a strikeout per inning. Overall you get another high upside teenage arm

This deal also might be a sign that they'll play Lucroy more at 1B next year. He loses every once of trade value. What makes him so valuable is offense at the catcher position..... Go from getting two top prospect to getting an okay deal. That would simply be an awful decision I hope they are not dumb enough to do

2015-2016 Winter League Updates
Jenkins5 replied to Jim Goulart's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
Think they need to shut Rivera down. Been a long season for him & appears he is burnt out. All minor league season, September call up, AFL now WInter leage....that's a lot of ball. Only 2 months until he reports 4 MLB camp -
Always take a shot on a former top prospect with big power about to hit his prime. He is able to find it again, we got a steal.... if he doesn't and can't hit for crap as he has past 2 seasons....you release him. All positive. Either he regains form, improves enough to be solid bench bat & playing 1B/3B, or he's gone for nothing

Good write up. I'll never understand the assessment of too much effort in delivery to be a starter or due to arm slot they can not be starter. Same with this player is only 5'10-6 foot tall, they can only be a bullpen arm. Like that the writer notes he could be a high leverage RP if he has to be but no reason he shouldn't be able to start. Sale, Madbum, and many others have unique arm slots or deliveries....doesn't mean anything. If it is consistent and sustained for 6+ IPs a game...doesn't matter. If they can command it, sustain it, and are productive with it.....no need to be thrown in pen. Injuries can happen at any time so you don't say you throw like this you can't start cause you may get hurt. Only time you do that is when you have a Hellwig or Rogers whose arms no longer hold up.....except Brewers refused those options for both.

Early projections for 2016 rosters
Jenkins5 replied to And That's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
They seemed pretty aggressive with Houle, wouldn't be shocked to see him in AA. Hope Betencourt plays SS. Keep versatility up and doesn't interfer with Chris McFarland's PT -
Will Middlebrooks looked like he was going to be a flat put stud. He came up and smoked the ball pretty good at first. For whatever reason he regressed greatly. There is no risk. I am always a believer that talent just doesn't vanish. With good coaching, he could always rebound or at least become productive. Casey McGehee was a nothing with no one really thinking he'd amount to much...give gave a couple of real productive years for use. Alex Gordon prior to his age 27 season was looking like he may not be very special or anything more than average at best. Age 27 until today has lead him to be the highest WAR LF in baseball I believe over the past 5 years. Bautista was trash....Then he is what he is today. Overall no risk, he can play both 1B/3B....bring in as many people as possible to compete in Spring and hope one sticks.

The teams I like the most are Rays, Royals, and was Astros for rebuilding. It all starts with the depth of the system. The more high end players you have the better in your farm. Astros have have kind of went rogue the way you shouldn't do. They had such a deep system to bring keys in VIA Trade or fill MLB holes but now they are getting to the point where they are just cleaning out the farm. At this rate they are going to be close to the situation the Brewers fell into which doesn't end well. I love the Rays, they have dropped off a little now but so long they just always competed and put themselves in a good situation to make a run. There system was always really good, they would trade players about to get paid for young talent, and overall just a very well run team. Royals are in same boat and are to the point where they need to decide, pay everyone, let them walk, or trade some off to really get the system prepared for the next needed wave.

Brewers were garbage for 20 years and the fan base game storming back with winning pretty quickly from 2005+. Same with the Bucks. Loyal fans will always stay loyal. When the team starts to develop star players and begin winning again all the fair weather fans will come running back. Arcia & Phillips come up and take off the way we hope....fans will come out to see the same way they did for Weeks & Fielder came up.

Explain how the trades for Villar, Flores, Cecchini, and Pina are playing for 2020. Because Lind was suppose to get us a future All-Star in AAA not 3 teenagers.....so now our sole purpose due to one trade is we only care about 2020.... hopefully I don't need blue for that Lind was not a salary dump at all. They picked up his option to trade him....if it was a salary dump they just wouldn't have picked up his option.
-
As said 100 times, these teenagers are not ranked in the system because they are teenagers, international signings, and didn't not get bonus baby millions. Mallen and Pierre both are talented, have ton of talent, ceiling, and signed for 800k yet are not in Top 30. If Lara received $100k instead of 3.2 million, he wouldn't be top 30 either regardless to ceiling. Draft position and bonuses are all that matter to national ranking sites.

If DS has shown anything at all so far & from this trade is that they love versatility, OBP/working counts, High K/ Low BB pitchers with great feel for pitching, & he & his don't care how national scouts rate players. He is what people wanted & takes analytical approach to scouting so now we have that people like to complain. I fully trust what DS is doing and love it! Infuse the system with as much value as humanly possible. Lind is overrated by posters here. He is a strict platoon player on a good team. Not much of a defensive guy. He is good but not this unbelievable guy who should have netted us multiple top prospects When Herrera is sitting 93-96 K'ing over 1 an inning, not walking anyone, and is carving up each league on the way to being one of our top prospects & future #1 or #3 people will look back and be say man what a steal for Lind! So to complain now makes little sense to me. Then again I don't think Lind was the next Messiah like some who wanted kings ransom for him. Good trade, hope 1 makes it at least, if not, we don't lose any. His value wasn't going anywhere & Brewers picked up option just to trade him in 1st place. Lind even said Stearns never once even spoke to him or made any hint he was any part of this team going forward
-
Really don't think they are playing for draft picks. In baseball picks may take 3-6 years to show any type of reward. KRod was traded because he has value, we have better cheaper options, & no need to spend 7 million a year on a closer for a non compting team. Linds option was picked up for the purpose alone to trade him. Why spend 8 million a year on a guy who has no role in your future and has value? Overall don't think these trades say anything at all.... KRod we got a 28 year old AAA catcher and what will be a AA 2B. Last time we traded KRod it was for an A+ prospect who flamed out nearly right away.... Not sure what you were hoping for?We got Lind for Estrado who we no longer wanted anything to do with... That was Linds value. maybe we could have netted a DJ Peterson type possible average role player, high floor, low ceiling guy.... Instead we got three young pitchers hoping at least 1 will hit eventually. Highly doubt DS said to his staff, we are going for 2020, only target guys who will be able to start to produce then. He got an offer that he thought had the best value to bring in not just a possible role player but a possible star player. He wants to infuse system with people they feel have the best ability to be breakout players without regard for how long they take. Lucroy is the only telling trade. With Lucroy, you will get at least 1 top prospect from a team. You are not getting top flight prospects for Lind, KRod, Segura, and etc.... So you take a risk to get someone players who have lower floors that you think can become special over simply taking high floor, low ceiling players
-
It seems liek a lot of people would have been more happy if it was Lind for Peterson or Lind for Peterson and a young arm. IMO with the Cecchini trade for nothing more than some cash considerations kind of give those people even more than they wanted back. Really now we have Cecchini AND 3 good young arms (don't want to hear they weren't top 30 prospects, its been discussed...Ponce is a top 10 quality prospect ranked 29 in our system...rankings don't mean anything) Garin Cecchini is every bit the prospect DJ Peterson is. Exception is Peterson has more power, Cecchini has more speed, better defense, and is a is a little better OBP guy. Peterson struggled 2nd go around in AA badly, Cecchini had a bad 2nd go at triple A (First go around was okay with a .260 average, .340 OBP, and .715 OPS at 23 years old). They are only about a year apart. Both prior to awful 2015 seasons were top 100 prospects. (Cecchini highest was #73) Cecchini was twice rated to have best hit tool in Boston system and rated with the best infield arm once. He was rated top infield arm in South Atlantic League as well. Since his debut he was a top 7-10 prospect in a system usually know for being fairly deep. An awful season happens so it is okay both were brutal in 2015 but I would take Cecchini and day over Peterson. Feel he is more advanced with his approach, ability to hit, his speed, and better defensive upside.

Lind, Lucroy, K-Rod available (as per Olney)
Jenkins5 replied to 3and2Fastball's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Once Lucroy came back in June from all the injuries, he hit like Lucroy. Post All-Star he was .289/.347/ .461/ .808 OPS But I get what you mean by questioning the "ever" remark -
Garin Cecchini to Brewers for Cash Considerations
Jenkins5 replied to billymac's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
So lets say this with Garin. Brewers drafted him in 2011. In 2015 after being September call up in 2014, he tore his ACL in April of 2015 and missed the whole season (meaning we simply toss out all his awful 2015 numbers), how excited would you be for him as a Brewer Prospect? You like OBP? .398(R+), .394(A), .443 (A+/AA), .361(AAA) Like Steals? stole 51 bases in A ball and the 23 total between A+/AA in 2013.....97 career steals in 4 seasons for a 3B Like BB's but not K's? BB's: 17 in 130 PAs(R+), 61 in A, 94 between A+ & AA in under 500 PA's, 44 in AAA in 400 PA's He has never K's over 100 times or over 20% of his ABs. Sits around the 16-17% Range Versatility? Now he plays 3B, 1B, and LF He is not a power hitter at least yet nor may he ever be a 20+ HR guy but he will be a guy who can collect 2Bs and some 3Bs. Steal 15-20 bases. Give at least solid/average defense. Take a lot of walks and hit for solid average. Now he had a pretty decent September call-up. If we completely overlook 2015 I think there is a lot of reason to think he can bounce back and regain form. I think this was a great low risk, very good reward pick up! Sometimes a change of scenery is all you need! Here are some interesting things I found online with him. 1st is about him being possible next Youk, and 2nd on his new versitility. "When looking at that Youkilis, it's almost hard not to draw comparisons to Garin Cecchini. Like Youkilis, Cecchini has come up through Boston's system as a third baseman. Like Youkilis, Cecchini has made his name through strong strike zone judgement, walking in 13% of his plate appearances. And, like Youkilis, the traditional first base power does not seem to be present. The comparison isn't perfect. Cecchini's defense is not so polished as Youkilis', and while he's going to draw his fair share of walks, Billy Beane is not about to declare his divinity. Still, Cecchini is a quality prospect who can fill a major league hole when the time comes." ----Overthemonster.com That's why Garin Cecchini, who spent the first three years of his pro career exclusively at third base, started playing left field last season before adding first base to his resume this spring. "You see Brock, and Xander originally came up as a shortstop before playing third base," Cecchini said. "That's the way the Red Sox are going, so you have to accept it. I'm happy with it because it creates versatility in me. It gives the manager more options to play me." Cecchini seems to be effective defensively at the multiple positions. He's committed three errors in 13 games at third base and one error in 13 games at first. In left field, the 24-year-old Louisiana native has one error and one assist in 32 games. "He shows pretty good actions in left field," Boles said. "He's still working on taking cleaner routes, but that comes from experience." ----MILB.com -
I talked to Colby on Twitter last week about the draft and more particularly Lowe. It is looking like he may already be in consideration for top 5. I think Lowe is maybe the one bat that I would really struggle to pass on. His bat is explosive with ton of power potential and appears to be contact hitter. However, what really seperates him is he is said to be a good defender at 3B with maybe the most insane arm across the diamond. He is out there slinging it 94+ Mph 3rd to 1st. I would love any of the aces but man, Josh Lowe could be special too. In a draft that lacks many possible elite bats, could be smart to grab one. I repeat again though Groom Pike or Hanson I'd love. Puk needs to put in all together this season. He still more arm talented than pitching talented (if that makes sense).

Lind, Lucroy, K-Rod available (as per Olney)
Jenkins5 replied to 3and2Fastball's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Because with his contract & production, they now there is no way to get him unless they pay up. Brewers are playing the unmotivated card. Can't low ball a team who is just as happy to keep the guy...or at least they say they are. -
Absolutely. I've been extremely bullish on Profar since well before the trade last year. I proposed actually giving up Greinke AND K-Rod or if need be Axford(when he was going well again) for Profar and many thought that was ridiculous. I see Profar as being a transcendent player. The premier SS for the next 15 years potentially. He a switch hitter with power already at 6'0 165, speed, a cannon for an arm, and VERY good defense who also has a good eye and can draw walks. Lol this is why you can't judge trades for a couple years. Greinke, KRod, & Axford for Profar. Now Profar is a backup IF who most people are against going to get as part of Lucroy trade. He is still young & talent but an after thought now. At the time, segura came & looked to be a star, since he is in a 2 1/2 year slump. Hellwig lost all value to me when they refused to move him to pen & crank it 100 mph. They kept starting him like Mark Rogers and killed his arm. Pena looked really good last year. Think he at worse is a good bullpen go option

Yeah Peralta was also an OF when he signed with the Brewers before switching over to the mound pretty quickly. Overall until these kids get into Wisconsin or BC, they won't be very high on the list due to pre performance hype....If Brewers signed Herrera out of Dominican for 1.5million he'd be top 15 in our system
-
As it has been stated a million time. International signings who are not bonus babies don't start getting ranked highly until they experience success at A ball or above. Ventura, Luna, Diaz, Diplan....go back to Peralta and others....Takes time for them to generate buzz. Just because these kids were ranked doesn't mean it is a lack of talent at all. Brewers are targeting pitchers who know how to pitch (control the zone with multiple pitches), K batters at a high mark (1 per IP), and are effective. At this age.... that is the most important part! Now if they can develop more velocity and continue to master their craft, they will be in great shape to be a major riser in our system. If Herrera goes from being a good young crafty pitcher working in 88-91 range with good overall stuff (17)...Just think if now he adds velocity and fills out! He will be a refined crafty pitcher throwing 93-96! Better than having a kid who throws 93-96 but now clue as to how to pitch or throw a strike. Easier to groom at least. Overall I am a fan of the trade but ask me again in 3 years how it worked out. If Herrera is looking like he is a future Ace carving hitters up in BC or Missaki (Davies Jr.) is just getting the job done day in and out with his pure craftiness, Thus trade will be looking really nice. Only need 1 to hit to win the trade

We would need Carlos Edward Jr. and Willson Contaras for sure, Dylan Cease, Vogelbach, Pierce Johnson. or Almora would be other good guys to try to bring in
