I love his potential and really he does get his walks & hits but every year he is striking out 35-40%. We complain about Domingo striking out too much and he is in the 27-30% range. Granted he has been young at every level but he has never shown any ability to lower that rate. Even when he is dominating, he is still striking out at a very high clip. I think he very easily could become one of the best bats in baseball but the fact he has such a hard time making contact is very troubling. When you have THAT many holes in your swing, you be in for a giant MLB bust career. Just as likely as he is to be one of the elite bats in MLB, he could top out as a Mark Reynolds all or nothing type. Get his HRs but not much else. Still value in that. Moreover, Kris Bryant and Joey Gallo aren't very comparable. Bryant throughout the minors struck out like Domingo Santana at a 25-29% clip. With the Cubs he struck out his highest amount at 30%. If Gallo ever came close to only striking out at a 30% clip, they may throw a city parade. I get that he is younger but given the same at bats as Bryant, he would have been 220-240 K's. Overall he is in the same boat as Javier Baez, (except the only time Baez has k'd over 30% is at MLB level, minors mid 20's) he just misses the ball far to much despite all the talent in the world when he does make contact. The biggest thing outside his power he had going for him is that he walks. Without his ability to walk (Baez's other major issue), I wouldn't even consider him. With his ability to still get on base when he is striking out every other AB right now, I would still consider him just not sold on him

Predict End of Season 2016 Top Prospects
Jenkins5 replied to Crash2303's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
Top guys who have chance to shot up this year: BC 3 Headed Monster Ponce, Williams, Mederois should all dominate in A+ due to how pitcher friendly it is. Ponce should be in AA by mid season. Williams and Mederois will be left to dominate the whole season (build confidence & refine pitching) like with Jorge Lopez, BC was the first step (1st half of season) of his breakout. Harrison & Gatewood Harrison has everything you look for in a guy who can break out. If he carries over what he was doing in Helena, he will skyrocket! He walked 12% of PA's and K'd only 19%, he played great defense, stole tons of bases, he ISO'd .175 with a speed rating of 9.2 (unreal). He hit .299/.410/.474 before injury. Important to remember that he was pretty bad in 1st 11 games after demotion (.167 ave .683 OPS) before going for .400/.493/.545 in 17 games in July. His numbers in Helena were much closer to his approach in Arizona. Wisconsin was just too much of a jump for him. Gatewood's power in undeniable. Kid can flat out crush the ball. Doubles will soon become HRs. He absolutely needs to make more contact this season. He only walked 7-8% of the time (which was an increase from Arizona) however he still K'd around 30% of his AB's. I like what he was able to do in Helena, he needs to continue to improve upon that in Wisconsin. Trent Clark Clark is so advanced at the plate, he will be a rapid riser in the rankings. Top 30-50 is not shocking by end of season. He will start in Wisconsin. Lara & Demi O I don't think there are two players in the system with more star power potential with more to show than Demi O and Lara (Gatewood & Harrison main competition). Lara started out good but as with any 17-18 year old, he got cold and couldn't overcome the mental hurdle of the game. He is far too talented for how he performed the 2nd half of his season in Arizona. As we have heard though, he struggles with maturity (as expected for a kid his age who received money he did.) He struggled to overcome the slump mentally, he was benched multiple times for not hustling, and some scouts him looking "sluggish" and "fatigued" Demi O has all the tools you look for, however, his inability to walk is an issue. His plate discipline must improve. Really both should be in Helena this year but as we all want to see, I would not be surprised by them making Wisconsin. Create a super wave Diplan & Diaz Both Diplan & Diaz should be able to get 1st taste of A ball this season. Diplan has been very promising since arriving and looks like the the main center piece that will define the Gallardo trade. Diaz now healthy has been great! He has a high K/9 low BB/9. His K% to BB% is very good. Batters don't hit well off him and he has a solid sub 3.00 FIP. Scouts have loved him for awhile so exciting what he can do for a full season. Before leaving Arizona, he was rated a top 15 prospect in our system. Bounce back Coulter & Taylor should both open up in AA and see stocks rise. For the 1st time in his career, Taylor did not adjust well. He was one of the youngest players in the league and a second go around should return him to form. He was a fringe Top 100 prospect and our #1 or #2. He has talent, needs to come out hot and earn way to AAA. Coulter is out of FSL & will mash. Both can easily raise stock back up. Guys who are in mix to break out. Tyrone Perry as an advanced approach at the plate. He offers great power but unless he can get his weight under control, his prospect star is harder to rise. He weighed 305 I believe on the Instructional roster....at 6'1, that's not good (not even at 6'6) Joangtel Segovia is just a natural hitter, give him a few weeks to adjust then he will hit .360+ He could walk a little more and play with a little more speed but his hit tool is what will carry him. Franley Mallen is one of my biggest breakout candidates. Earned way from DSL to Helena at end of the year and greatly improved on some of the areas he struggled at. He is going to stick at 2B it appears. Carlos Belonis has always had the tools to wow, but this year they finally were on display. His approach at the plate and making contact will be his biggest hurdle. Could be a late bloomer type. Ignacio Otano was a stud SS in the DSL who was unknown before the season. He has will be in the states this year with opportunity to rise. Malik Collymore if very interesting prospect who was drafted as SS, moved to 2B and now is in OF. With how crowded the OF is, I wish he could move back to 2B but we will have to see. Carlos Herrea & Carlos Luna should both be in the states this year following strong years in the DSL. Jorge Ortega could really improve status if he can strike out a couple of hitters.... David Burkhalter & Angel Ventura are vastly underrated and overshadowed by Medorois, Williams, and Ponce. Both can take a big leap in BC. -
I have backed away from Gallo & I suggest Brewers do to as they did in the draft when he was sitting right there for them (Hanigar instead). I would take Profar over Gallo. Gallo could K 200x a season while hitting .200 to go with his 40 HRs. If I am DS, I personally take Brinson, a top arm (Mutuella, Ortiz, Jurado, Mendez, Tate), and a young rookie ball guy or 2 and walk away.

Hard to believe there are 20 systems better than the Brewers right now. However I have looked at all the end of the season list that I could find and they are all over the place. Some may have Brewers in top 10, some link the late teens early 20's. I think the Braves have done a far better job rebuilding there system than the Brewers so far. They have had a head start, however, they are much more willing to make bold moves and move system forward. Brewers have opportunity to vastly improve system. They need to hit on there early round picks. Smith & Lucroy need to be trade prior to losing there value (injuries or poor performance). Davis, Gennett, Segura need to have a really good 1st half. I am sure Gennett will be back to his .300 hitting ways but to increase value more, taking a few walks will go a long way. Segura still has value despite how awful he has been. He really needs to shake off these last two terrible seasons before his value is complete gone. If Davis comes out and hits like he did last few months of season, he is bringing us back something nice. Next, considering almost none of the biggest market teams can sign international players, this is a big year for Brewers to be aggressive and grab top talent. Braves already got the player people have claimed is the best player since Sano and is the next Miguel Cabrera in SS Kevin Maitan. I believe the handshake agreement is for 3.8 million. We need to do more than Gilbert Lara being the only 1 million plus signing bonus baby we have ever had. You need to buy those lottery tickets. Most important, our system relies on players taking the next step as prospects. We are so young and strong in the R to A ball level. It is time for those guys to become a force & Top 100 guys. Harrison, Gatewood, Mederois, Ponce, Williams, Lara, Demi, Diplan, Diaz are all guys who could easily rise a lot. Tyrone Taylor & Coulter can easily regain status after this season

lol is really all I can say..... I just love how people can overreact to minor league deals. Chances are he doesn't make the team, if he does, maybe he can be a LOOGY. We lose absolutely nothing taking a flyer on someone like Cappy. Really with a lineup of: 1B Carter 2B Gennett SS Segura 3B Cecchini or Westbrook C Lucroy LF Davis CF Broxton/ Nieuwenhuis/ Santana/ maybe Austin Jackson RF Braun With rotation of Nelson Peralta Garza Jungmann Davies/ Lopez/ Hader Smith/ Jeffress/ Knuebel in the backend of the pen What are people crying so much about? That isn't a 100 lose team. We haven't traded anyone else and there is no certainty we will. We have 3 teams in the division who may win 100 games this season. At least 97 or 98 wins. What you want this team to do? We haven't even started to tank yet. KRod, Sardinas, and Lind who was only retained to trade does not make us tank. All this tanking non sense is so blown out of proportion. Complain when we actually trade of pieces that matter such as Lucroy, Davis, Peralta, Sergura, Gennett, Braun, Nelson, Smith, Jeffress.

Reetz was 19, learning curves happen.... He is not getting cut or anything else

Morosi Predicts a July Khris Davis Trade
Jenkins5 replied to Jim Goulart's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
I vote for DH because it brings more offense to the NL. It takes more skill to manage an NL team but really I prefer a team to be able to put it's best 9 hitters in the lineup -
I'd gladly take Blake Swihart if Kopech or Espinoza are also included....throw in young 1B prospect Ockimey or Longhi. I went to an Astro fan forum and they were really underselling Lucroy, debating if the offer from the article was to much value. It is laughable to me because Martes is a very nice young prospect but Marisnick is not worth much for us with Phillips coming up. Singleton many of them threw out there but he doesn't give us much with Carter on team already. Stassi is okay, I wouldn't touch Castro. DS knows the Astros system top to bottom than almost anyone. If he does a trade with them, he will get the most value he can get. I think you have to take AJ Reed. Get AJ Reed and fill in the rest. Rangers are still my favorite and landing Brinson
-
I dont even consider any of those options....all terrible.

Turner & Reetz need to in deal in my opinion for Nationals

Never make trades based on needs with prospects, you take the best players available. Now if you are getting an MLB ready SS when you already have Arcia, that's unnecessary unless you plan to move them over to 2b or 3b. That fact we have Arcia doesn't play a role at all if we are going to bring in a 19year old SS who is 4+ years away. Cordell fills absolutely zero holes expect a future 4th OF. He is old for levels and high desert numbers are greatly inflated. Ortiz's weight scares me more than Mutuella's arm Jurado & Mendez seem to fit the DS type. Both have control of the strike zone already. Mendez is still much more greener & projectable but Jurado knows exactly what he is doing & is more than a soft tossing control guy. 19 & starting to flash 95 with 4 seamer. Brinson in RF with Santana in LF I think would look nice. Brinson & Maverick are legit CF defenders. Mazara is being hailed as the next huge thing so I don't we get him.

Predict End of Season 2016 Top Prospects

I can't compete with this.... I mean Clark makes sense, Reed is a bit of a stretch but possible but yeah....Guess everyone rates prospects different -

Sean Manaea, Matt Olson, & low level high ceiling type would be my favorite but that is a pretty fair offer in my opinion. Barreto & Nunez are to very good gets. Barreto & Arcia would be a great combo at 2B/SS. Nunez adds good competition at 3B. A lot of power, solid D. Some may prefer Chapman though. I just think when healthy Manaea is a dominate lefty force & Olson's power and ability to walk 110+ a season has me drool. He can stay a .250 hitter and still OBP around .400.

Morosi Predicts a July Khris Davis Trade
Jenkins5 replied to Jim Goulart's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Honestly, take Ward & whatever else they will give you. Davis is not Lucroy and we don't need the world for. Ward could be a very good catching prospect & move fairly quick (for a catcher). We really need a catching prospect & we need to make room for Domingo to get his regular ABs Their system is terrible but they other pieces they can add to Ward to get a deal done -
Great site for Ranger news but here's an interesting new top 10 list for the Rangers. Interesting that Matuella isn't on the list. Also the rise of Jurado who has the Bb/9 skills of Ortega but has ability to K batters, tops out at 95 now with a heavy sinking 2 seam.

Brewers still interested in Alvarez and Jackson?
Jenkins5 replied to JohnBriggs12's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
It could be argued Braun could be considered gold glove candidate at 3B compared to Alvarez.... At least Braun had range. Pedro is a just a blob who stands there unable to field, move, or throw.... But hey zero defense, no ability to hit for acceptable average, or really offer this team anything besides Homeruns but hey let's pay him to block people who actually deserve a chance during our rebuild -
Brewers still interested in Alvarez and Jackson?
Jenkins5 replied to JohnBriggs12's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Alvarez is not even remotely an option to play 3B. Carter, Gennett, Segura, and Alvarez has our infield would not even be watchable. Easily one of the worst defensive infields in all of baseball. What good is a guy who is going to hit .210 & have more errors than HRs. I could deal with awful 1B defense & bad approach at plate for his HRs but not acceptable at 3B. Middlebrook, Cecchini, Villar, Perez all offer more in my opinion since they all can at least field the position. We can sign Alvarez but all your doing is slowing down the rebuilding process just to watch a few more HRs.... Jackson has not been good in 2 years so he is a bounce back & flip guy. I don't mind if we get him but Alvarez makes zero sense since we got Carter -
Reece McGwuire needs to be automatic in a Pirates trade, no questions asked.

Predict End of Season 2016 Top Prospects
Jenkins5 replied to Crash2303's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
Whoever we draft at #5 I'll automatically be top 5 & our 2nd round pick top 25. Then we still have a lot of possible trades coming, we are looking at a completely different Top 25 (example Brinson, Matuella for Lucroy, both fit in our top 10) Even if Lopez & Hader struggle in AAA I don't dock them at all, Colorado Springs is made for pitchers struggle. Can't fault them for ball park (same could be said about Coulter in BC) With Reed probably going up & down all season, I don't see him rising his stock. I do think Gatewood will swing a big bat this year in Wisconsin to move him back up the list Edit: Continuing on Realistically, if this season goes the way we think it may.....Many of these guys will fall off the list Arcia Phillips Lopez Hader Barrios Reed Flores Broxton Magnifico Houser -
Even the Braves had to give up someone. There is no reason Arizona wouldn't want at least a future utility type guy or RP prospect to come back.
-
He is the one guy on this team who I do hope doesn't get traded off. For the mere fact that is so rare that a star player comes around to a small market team and actually wants to play out his whole career out with that team. I don't care about the PEDs or that he lied. We need vet leaders as these guys come up, he is already difficult to trade, and he still has potential to put up really good numbers. My issue is that we are in the NL and unless all this NL Designated Hitter talk actually becomes reality, It is going to be hard to keep Braun around in OF. Brewers have shown no interest in moving him to 1st base. Image if we get Mazara or Brinson for Lucroy...Now you have Phillips, Santana, and Brinson/Mazara....with Reed, Taylor, Roache, Coulter, Clark, Harrison, Demi O, and etc still coming. I'm pulling for a DH in NL but that is a whole giant topic on its own. but util that day happens, hard to see Braun lasting his entire contract
-
Yeah, stick to the original idea. Take salary off another team's hands in exchange for a prospect. And we already know the Diamondbacks are a team willing to do that. Adding Garza into the equation will just negate getting a prospect, if not the deal. What prospect do we give up though to take on Hill's contact. What kind of prospect are we looking at giving up. They got a decent young bench bat out of that last deal with the Braves. I just don't know what I am willing to give up.
-
Braun won't be moved until Trade deadline once he proves he can stay healthy a produce at a Braun level. With the surgery on back and hand problems that still outweighs his good season last year. If comes out hot at an All-Star level and stays healthy, his value will return and he will be a hot name come deadline. His contract at the time he signed it and compared to current market is a bargain if he gets back to the player he was. I'm not a PEDs made Braun the player he was believer. His fall I think is more of a result of his hand and other injuries. If healthy He will be back to a .300 hitter, .400 OBP, .900 OPS guy with 30 HRs I do find it funny that I read a (think bleacher report) artictle about trading Braun where they referred to him as a OF/3B and mention how his position flexibility may help his value...I laughed for a good 5 minutes

Matt Garza for Aaron Hill + Low level prospect In search of players I take a DS type approach for what I am looking for. In pitchers, I am usually looking for a ratio of 9/2 k/9 to bb/9...close to a 20% K% to BB%, solid FIP in 2's to lower 3's. Batting averages against to be under .250 (prefer .230 or less depends on other measurable) 1.20 Whip or lower, and lastly young for their level. Hitters I am looking for a BB% of at least 10% usually, depends on how outstanding other measures are. Strikeout percent is prefered to be under 20%. I like them to be as close as possible (ks 14% bb 12%), I look at ISO and Speed, I prefer a iso of at least 7-8% and speed at 4. wOBA & wRC+ both factor in as well. DSL Plenty of intriguing prospects (All ages is what they will be in 2016 season 19 year old 6'2 170 SS Yan Sanchez 18 Year old 6'0 180 OF Oscar Moreno 19 year old 6'0 175 SP Slivestre Berroa 20 year old 6'2 175 SP Franklyn Soreno Top DSL get IMO 17/18 year old OF 6'2 200 Juan Araujo In Arizona 19 yr old 6'3 175 SP Luis Madero 19 yr old 5'10 185 C Jose Herrera Top 19 yr old Emilio Vargas a 6'3 200 SP Missoula Matt Raily 21 yr old OF 5'11 190 (former 3rd round pick) Marcus Wilson 19 yr old 6'3 195 OF (former 2nd round pick) Francis Christy 20 year old 6'2 200 C Gabiel Moya 21 yr old 6'0 175 SP Top Get Isan Diaz 20 year old 2B/SS 5'10 185 (former 2nd rd pick)
