  1. CC & Stearns have all but official said Santana is not their CF this season. There is a reason why even in the minors he didn't play there. Gaps really open up for opposing teams with him in there. I get we are going to lose anyway but you don't want to go out there and put yourself in a position to lose games. Hernadez and Caves would be good options if either is there in the rule 5 draft. Take a flyer on one and hope like Shields it works out. If they can at least play defense and maintain around .300 OBP that will do until Reed, Wren, or Phillips beat them out. At the same time, isn't Reed just as MLB ready if not more than both of those guys? Really hurts they never put him in CF due to Taylor
  2. 2 facts 1) CC said yesterday that moving Braun to 1st won't be considered 2) Rogers is not that much younger than Pedro...nor is his defense all that great either. Both are simply bats Really if you get him for a good deal, you platoon Pedro and Rogers. Alvarez still is a .750+ OPS guy who usually still at least is on base .310. Alvarez was a top flight talent and still has potential to finally click at the plate. He is still hitting his prime years. Bring him in on a 1-2 year deal, let him raise his stock. He isn't blocking anyone at all. Platoon Rogers and use him as a bench bat where he is like Lenny Harris (pinch hit machine). Who is he really blocking right now? Who are the young guys he is trying to develop there? Depth Chart & Ages this season Rogers 28 MLB Ramirez 26 (27 in August) AAA Cooper 25 AA Sharkey A+ 22 Denson A 21 Perry R+ 20 Valderrey R 19 Cooper may could come up at some point and has a Lyle Overbay ceiling to hit for good average and some doubles. Wouldn't say Pedro would be blocking his, Ramirez, or Rogers. All our other options are at least 3 years away at best. Trade is only real option to bring in someone who could really be considered "blocked"
  3. Add the fact that there is a good chance we draft and try our best to keep 1-2 Rule 5 picks this season. Overall, I could care less if we win 50 or 100 this year. My enjoyment personally will come from the minor league side and tracking our system. I will still go to games because I love to watch baseball and it is something fun to do with my friends & family. I will still flip on the game when I have some down time and try to watch an inning or two. I will still look at the box score every night. Winning right now isn't a big deal to me at all right now. It feels like the mid 2000's to me. Major team was blah and didn't win much but no one cared because 1)we had been losers for 20 year 2) most important we had game changers who we felt would lead this team back to contention. The excitement when JJ, Hart, Weeks, Prince, Braun, Yo all started coming up. We weren't too mad that we didn't take the league by storm. We played better and grew each season back to contention. Biggest difference now is that we as fans care too much about winning & are in such a hurry to do so. It is a process. Next, our waves isn't as big right now. I personally feel our A ball group is the biggest wave and will continue to grow through trades in the future. We are in good shape to get back to winning with the likes of Arcia, Santana, Phillips, Lopez, Hader, Taylor, Coulter but we need more pieces in that group. Lucroy would be the answer to that. You add Gallo and one MLB impact prospect or even solid every day guy....we are in good shape Overall embrace it, enjoy watching our system become a power house like Rangers and Houston, and hopefully get the minor league forum popping again like it use to in 2002-2006.
  4. Missaki I think ceiling is that of Davies. He will always be a small human being, never be a power arm but flat out knows how to pitch. Peralta I have no clue on. Herrera I think is the most exciting of the group. As I mentioned before, we should be just as excited for him as Luna. At 17 with a projectable body throwing hitting low 90's, you have the opportunity to really take off. No need to get caught up in ratings. As everyone has said, international signings are usually not ranked very high unless they are big bonus babies with ton of hype. Mallen, Pierre, Otano, Segovia, Luna, Perry, and a whole bunch more right now are not top 30 guys however they all very well could be in the next year or two. Unless you have signing hype or draft hype, you are not getting love.
  5. Mark me down for a tally. hit almost .300 with ops around .800. Has hit everywhere he has been been. Give him an opportunity and see how it goes. Maybe by July Cooper or Ramirez may earn a look. Santana or Braun work to.
  6. http://m.brewers.mlb.com/news/article/159232202/brewers-trade-adam-lind-to-mariners "Whenever you acquire players who are farther away, there is more variability," Stearns said. "In a deal like this, we are really targeting that type of variability to find an impact-type pitcher, even if it is multiple years down the road. "We had conversations with multiple teams about players at all different levels ... including at the Major League level for Adam Lind, and ultimately we felt like this was the best package of total value that we could get back." In Stearns I trust! Honestly, watching Missaki pitch, reading about his stuff, and looking at him build.....He is Zach Davies 2.0. I think Carlos Herrera compares extremely well to Carlos Luna. Size, age, performance. Not sure who I would compare Peralta two. He is a smaller guy, who has the most velocity. If he can get it up to 93-95 range consistently out of the pen. He may have a good role there. I don't know enough about him to really assess though. Overall DS simply felt these were a better package with the most total value than maybe just Peterson head up (if that was one of the Mariners offers). We don't know what all the offers were but they know far more about every player than we do so I trust their decisions. So far, we can start to judge DS in about 2-3 on his trades
  7. Lind, Segura, Gennett I am perfectly fine with us mining for talent. Khris Davis, Will Smith, Peralta, have better markets and I'd hope we'd get at least one piece back. Lucroy, you steal everything a system is humanly possible to give up. I'd be pretty upset if we don't get a couple future all-star potential type guys. Gomez deal brought us 3 guys who all seem like they at least have ceiling to get to that level. Hader if not as a starter, as a closer. Santana profiles like a Hart who will be borderline All-Star. Phillips has potential to be an All-Star every season
  8. I remember when people couldn't wrap their mind around non top-30 prospect Yhonaton Barrios. Some AA guy no one ever heard who was a SS with big fastball and nothing else.....now he may be a important part of our bullpen as early as this year. I trust our scouting staff more than Mayo and the rest. I am underwhelmed like most however, Zack Minasian has really been proving himself and has shown he knows what he is doing. If truly that many teams were in on Lind and this was the offer they were excited about....I am willing to see how it plays out
  9. That is entirely incorrect. I am 99% sure that they were all international free agents not subject to the draft. I'll up that to 100%
  10. Don't know any of them, but I am happy to have them in the system. This is really buying a lottery ticket, but I'm okay with that. Im fine with it, wasn't expecting the moon or anything....thought we'd get at least 1 top 10, 20, 30 prospect considering being #30 for them is equal to being #55 or #60 in our system. I haven't researched at all but our scouts thought they were worth it so. Why not. All need is at least on of these guys to do something for us. Carlos Villenuava was a young 18-19 we never heard of when we traded for him. I considered that a win with the production he gave while here.
  11. #Brewers officially announce the trade of Adam Lind to the Seattler #Mariners for RHPs Daniel Missaki, Carlos Herrera, and Freddy Peralta. Oh.......
  12. If we were only getting 2 pitchers I would say it is Gohara....since we are getting three, I don't see Lind getting Gohara and 2 more additional pitchers
  13. Morgan or Hernandez would be pretty impressive gets to pair with Gohara
  14. Alex Jackson & Gohara for Lind....if Stewart was GM of M's
  15. At this point, I really don't see Lucroy being on the open day roster. Doesn't mean this week but sometime before season starts. We can just bring in too much for him now to build on for the future. With our division being so tough including the Reds starting to sell off their team to rebuild, NL teams like the Braves cleaning up trades like the Miller one, Phillies loading up a good system, Mets are young with deeper system, and so on....We can't fall behind in our rebuild and not trade Lucroy. You take every once you can get and move on.
  16. Same ^ I had Zunino and his 30 HRs & 170 Ks in the line up with Gallo's 40 HRs and 170Ks (Lucroy to Rangers deal) Miller Park Bleachers was going to be a great place to be!
  17. The fact he has absolutely zero ability to take a walk..... his batting average will be just as high as his on base percentage which means if he is not hitting at a high clip......he is pure worthless. He doesn't have a huge track record of always hitting the way a Scooter has to get away with a terrible approach at the plate
  18. he only played 93 games so was it maybe injury laced season for him?
  19. confusing thing with Peterson is he played half of 2014 in AA, and played really good baseball. The he doesn't get promoted to AAA to start 2015 and the wheels just completely fall off. He OPS over .800 in Southern League at 22 for over 50 games. Hit .260/.335/.473 with 13 HRs in that time. Even while he only hit .206 in AFL he still OPS's over .800. Like I will continue to say I am all for bringing in and hoping he bounces back. Outside of this year, all he has done is produce. I just don't know what to make of his sudden drop and deep drop off.
  20. Jack Z was fired for drafting failures like Peterson and Zunino. Reminds me of old days when Bando lost his job for picking guys like Antone Williamson and Kyle Peterson (relation??). Zunino was supposed to be a finished product coming out of Florida. After all he was the 3rd overall pick. He's regressed since his rookie year. Peterson peaked in hitter friendly Cal League. I completely disagree...considering you don't know that the GM actually doesn't draft players, it is very hard to take your comment serious. Doesn't matter how ready you are suppose to be coming out of college. They gave him really 1 year from his first game after being drafted to develop into a MLB player. I don't care if you are picked #3 or not and went to college. That isn't how you develop players. GM's own the #1 picks, even if they don't "per se" run the draft. Bando was run out of town for missing on so many high picks. GM's don't have the time to draft. There is so much scouting that needs to be done even in the 1st round. They are trying to run the mlb club day in and day out. Peterson at 12? I hardly believe Jack Z was in his office everyday scouting all the possible players who were options at 12. Now Ackerley at #2 or Zunino at #3 he may have been more involved but overall you hire people you trust to do that job for you. Moreover, neither of those selectioned were frowned upon in the baseball world. Before They decided to stop trying to develop Zunino and just feed him to the sharks, he looked great. He mashed all the way through AA after he was drafted with an OPS over 800. That is impressive. He lost his swing in AAA so instead of getting it back on track they throw his broken swing in the MLB.....usually that doesn't work so well.
  21. I agree with the reasons to be concerned for Peterson and his future production. At best I think he is maybe a Lind, not great, just a solid everyday player. I think he was a good pick and he has the tools to be a solid player, however this season really shot his value. Now this deal is for Lind so if we can get Peterson and maybe a young arm like Wells who has promise. I will be okay with it. Right now we don't have much at 1B or 3B so you take Peterson and hope his swing comes back to be at least replacement level. Jack Z got fired because he had no clue as to what he was doing in every fashion. His signings, trades, player development strategies, and the list goes on....he was simply brutal beyond belief. He doesn't draft, he may give input on who he'd prefer if available or the type of players he wanted (move fast bats) but is not to be blamed for their drafting "failures." I don't put much stock in AFL (besides when my boy Hader proves he is the greatest lefty to ever play the game). That is like saying Brewers need to get ride of Santana now! He is having an awful winter, his future and career is over!!! Knee-Jerk reaction.

  23. Hopefully he is almost 24 and could figure out AA at all. We completely lost faith (according to rankings) in Taylor for his struggles at AA as one of the top 10 youngest players in the league. His season was gold compared to Peterson. Of course he can bounce back but his age and struggles at AA are troubling to me. Overall it is for Lind, so I happily take the trade. I just don't know how he really measures up in our system talent wise
