  1. Was going to say the same, southern league has some talented pitchers & Lopez has the top curveball of them all. Most recent things I have read about him all rave about his curveball. Doesn't sound like a 45 or 50 pitch to me. I'd think 55/60 is closer 65 wouldn't shock me. Most important thing to focus on is how much he has grown reach season! Every season now he has just gotten better and better!
  2. Ben Sheets managed with mid 90s fastball and deadly curve pretty well.... I'd still consider him more than a #3 despite not using his change up more than 10-15%. Now Sheets is the exception not the rule but if his 1st 2 pitches are that good and he can mix at least an average 3rd pitch to keep hitters off balanced, he can still be a top of rotation guy. He is considered a younger Yo with more potential? I consider Yo no less than a #2 during time here. I have never heard anything bad about his change.... It just seems to be average now. He's 22 and will probably continue to develop it
  3. Gomez is built like Monte Harrison with the 6'3 220 extreme athlete body. Santana is closer to Jason Heyward or Cory Hart type body and type of athlete. That 6'5 to 6'6 body that will eventually be in the still lean/filled out 240 range. Similar athlete as those two I'd say. Good not great speed.
  4. I don't see any use of going out and wasting anymore or resource on bringing a pitcher during year 1 of the rebuild. Next year is mostly about seeing what you have and evaluating what pieces you want moving forward. The expectation isn't to win next year but start developing and evaluating...don't get bringing in someone that will cost you a lot of money or talent to get just to not be competitive. Now if your talking about a future Ace type arm who is in AAA or very early in career and cheap then I agree. 2017 will be the year our wave hits, 2018 is the year we should be able to be pretty competitive again if all goes to plan. Thornburg Cravy Davies Suter Wagner Lopez Hader T. Williams are all guys who should be competing for opportunity next season
  5. Reed & Santana will help make Brewers more exciting to follow next year. Going to be a brawl for that #5 spot in rotation ( #4 & #5 if new GM can work magic to get ride of Garza)
  6. Except Ben Cherington may be top candidate out there and should be our #1.... So hopefully Brewerz get it done!
  7. Ben Cherington has to be target #1 right now....young, Ivey League analytic mindset, theos former right hand man, and World Series Champ....isn't that exactly who Mark is looking for?
  8. Well Cravy to 15 day DL for elbow. Not sure if it is strategy move or he is actually hurt
  9. Unbelievable how much Lopez and Arcia have raised their stock this season! Got Arcia going from mostly a top 90 to 120 type prospect going to #8 and then Lopez from not even on radar to top 50! To bad Taylor & Coulter have not rose stock at all this season. Lopez since mid May may arguably be one of the most dominate pitchers in all Milb. Teams haven't stood a chance with him on mound
  10. To me the big question is how long can Brewers really keep Santana down in AAA.... He is impressive and AAA no longer offers a challenge to him (outside working on k rate)
  11. I have a hard time worrying about it, he's young and adjusting. There are a lot of young guys see drop in power as they transition up. If you look at his build, he is a kid whole develop power as he gets older. Still filling out.
  12. Congrats to David! I could only imagine the wait that has been lifted off his shoulders now! It's hard to play a game as mentally draing as baseball for anyone but when you already mentally consumed with have to lie about who you are, it is nearly impossible. Hopefully now he can get out there with a clear mind and just get back to reaching his higher ceiling
  13. So to have trade value we must ignore MLB production and worry about how he was rated as a prospect? I have never heard, after 1,000 MLB plate appearances, a players trade value be effected by his prospect ranking. Unless of course you are a big time prospect that still has potential to grow. But to have your prospect ranking negatively effect you well into your MLB career? That just seems unreal. Where he was as a prospect doesn't matter ( except other way around where a once star prospect with little mlb success will still have higher value based on potential) I was just using that as to explain him as a player. He is absolutely nothing special. He may hit .250 with 25 hrs with ton of Ks, not many walks, no speed, no arm, okay fielding. As a GM in no way would I be say man we need this guy! Let's give up a guy whose potential far outweighs his and throw in another guy who may pan out. He was a lower ranked prospect for the same reason he isn't anything special now. Not saying another team won't value him because where he was ranked.
  14. I'm not worried about Coulter, being a power hitter in FSL is about as friendly as being a pitcher in Colorado Springs. The hitters who excel at BC are you slap to short line drive hitters. With that said he has not been good for most of the season at all. If he gets to Biloxi next year, I have a feeling he will be back on track
  15. Hader has been rated as high as #4 I have seen and is rated as a top 80 prospect by 1 national scout (Badler maybe?) he's 21 and more than holding his own in AA. Has made big strides every season. Power lefty with deception. Khris Davis holds little value IMO outside of AL as a DH. A .250 hitter who will give you 25 bombs, k a lot, not walk too much, and has no arm. Maybe someone likes that enough to give up value but hard to see a top 100. Davis himself wasn't a high rated prospect I horrid system. Peaked at maybe #8?
  16. Hader is #4 potential?? News to me. He has frontline lefty written all over him. Santana could come replace Davis tomorrow and we wouldn't miss a beat. So a higher potential OF and a #2-#3 starting LHP 4 Davis? Is that really even a question?
  17. Its a terrible idea to use talent to trade away undesired contracts. I'd rather eat the contract (figuratively or literally). I'm not opposed to trading him at all, if you can trade Garza and Taylor for a future 3b, go for it. Phillips is same age as Taylor and far more advanced as of right now. Reed & Santana are only a year older than him. Then add Roache & Coulter to mix....he is expendable
  18. Was the article mentioned about Jorge Lopez's biggest difference on the mound this season is exactly why he is above Mederois as top pitcher in our system. Lopez has learned how not to just throw his good stuff but now understands how to pitch using his great stuff. He understand when and why to throw this pitch to this batter in this count. Kodi has great stuff but simply throws it. He hasn't learned to pitch yet. like young Lopez, you just hold your breath he learns the craft of pitching aspect.
  19. As for Lopez being called up, I doubt it due to Biloxi playoffs. Think the Brewers will try to win that championship. It's important to the players, their confidence, and teaching that wave to win together. Lopez is the teams go to guy.
  20. Something click for him I think after having his son and facing the adversity he has had to deal with off the field. That forced him to grow up and mature pretty quickly. Moreover, think it gave him more motivation, reason, and sense of needing to be better to give his child the best life possible. Can't applaud him enough for the way he has performed over the last 2 years with those issues at home.
  21. As of right now he looks to be Pitcher of Year as well I think. Since Mid May he has just been carving teams up. His 4 seam sits 92-94, 2 seam low 90s with sink, great curveball. Only knock is his change up but as Ben Sheets will tell you, it's possible to be a frontline man without using it much. In my eyes both Hader & Lopez are top 100 pitchers and the top 2 in system. Young and proving it. Kodi, Devin and rest fighting for #3 in organization
  22. Couldn't agree more! I hope like with Scooter everyone forgets and drops the first name (whose Ryan Gennett?) and goes strictly by Maverick Phillips. 1) it is an awesome name. 2) growing up going strictly by my nickname, it is extremely annoying going by my first name or being identified by my first name. I don't get mad or anything but my identity is based around the name my whole family, friends, family friends and such called me since birth. From his interviews, twitter name, etc he is the same way. His identity is Maverick Phillips has formal name is Brett Phillips. As a player, he is exciting! Before last nights outburst he was hitting .222 and still had an OBP of .398! His Ks need to drop a little but he has great approach and speed! That double and triple power will most likely translate into power soon as well! Cooper I can't say enough just reminds me of Overbay. He'll need to breakout at Biloxi next year to prove it but he could be a solid double hitting, high OBP type guy in future. I talked about Clark before but I see no way he is not in Wisconsin next season to start. He is just too advanced at the plate
  23. No, they weren't, you're welcome to believe that was the case but it simply wasn't true as the Cards blew the Crew away in the NLCS and it wasn't a close series. The run differential was horrendous for a 6 game series. Bad luck? Hardly. They did go 9-9 against the Cardinals in the regular season and outscored them. The Cardinals got hot at the right time. Not to mention the Cardinals were on one of the hottest streaks seen. I mean it's not like they came back from 10.5 games back in September or anything like that.....wait nevermind. No one was going to stop Cardinals. When a team gets that hot and you mix in terrible decisions, it will only lead to bad outcomes. Brewers won 96 games and were two games away from a World Series, I think that makes them a World Series caliber team. The fact they lost to the hottest team in baseball and soon to be champs doesn't discredit the whole season and roster we had put together.
  24. Karsen Lindell has settled in over his last 4 starts (since July 28th) 13.1 IP 13H 2ER 0BB 17K (13:0 K/BB over last 2 games 9IP) he is the oldest of the high school arms after turning 19 in June (Gentry won't even turn 18 until September, Walter won't be 19 until next May) For the season in 22IP he only has 4 walks to go with 22ks. Has turned into a pretty successful debut season for him. Man am I glad to see Lara on a 3 game hit streak with a multi hit game tonight, he has needed this for so long. Hopefully he will finish season strong. Trent Clark is hitting a cool .391 over his last 10 games and has raised his average to .330. He is just so impressive at plate. A true professional hitter that you do see often at 18 years old.
  25. Has anyone noticed that Lopez is pretty good with the bat? Right now .276 with like a .640 ops.... Not to shabby for the young Ace
