This season I am fine with, next season we will have to see how the system starts to shake out. If he breaks out the way I have a feeling he will at the plate.... for 2017 you have to start thinking about how he can help the MLB team....way that is looking that is 1B, if Braun moves to 1B, Khris Davis is traded, Now it is looking like LF or RF. He is not a guy you can call-up up mid season, toss him a 1b glove and say your our 1b, better catch on fast. He will need an off-season to learn it. Going into 2017 or 2018 will be when they for sure need to decide if his bat is playing at a high level. In 2016....you don't need to move him now, at AA your not really worried about who is at the MLB or AAA level ahead of you. If the club feels he could be the 1b of the future, do it, otherwise keep letting him play OF.

Well that is only about the most absurd thing I have read on here in awhile. Gallo is 21 & Profar is 22. Profar was arguably the top prospect in all baseball at 19/20. I understand at 20 in the big leagues he didn't set the world on fire and then had 2 injury ridden seasons. Doesn't mean his career is over. Josh Hamiliton literally played zero games from age 22-24 and he turned out to be fine as a player. Gallo does K a lot, I will give you that but he hits and walks enough to maintain a .360 OBP as well. Like we talk about with Santana.... K's are a little easier to over look if the guy hits for average as well as walks a little bit....not to mention can give you 30...40...maybe more HRs in a season with 100+ RBIs. He is kind of like Jimmy Nelson and many other players where he is very slow to adjust. Every season he has been promoted and his performance has drastically dropped. The next season he goes back to that league, tears it up, gets promoted, then falls on face again... cycle repeats. Moral of story, he will adjust and be fine once he is up for good. I don't think anyone here was saying go Lucroy for Profar straight up. Profar hasn't played in two years and no longer even has a starting job, his value isn't that high. I do think Rangers are a bad fit for the Brewers to trade Lucroy to since they traded Alfaro. Lucroy wouldn't net Gallo and Profar alone. This would have to be like the Houston trade to get both. Lucroy & Will Smith for Profar, Gallo,Yohander Mendez, Trevino

It is great to have a incredible arm, I am all for him being out in the OF and adding that skill in case something happens down the road, however, he profiles perfectly at 1st base. He was a catcher and should be able to adjust to picking the ball and becoming a sold defender there. He is also an athletic guy, he really does move pretty for his size (not as much as the freaks Demi or Monte of course). Nick Ramirez had to repeat AA then pretty much lost his job there by the end of the season. Cooper I could see opening up in AAA with his age and approach. Coulter's best path to the big leagues is 1st base and letting his bat speak for him. That also doesn't mean he is locked there for life either. Look at Cory Hart. 3B, then 1B then RF, then back to 1B. If his bat plays big, they will find/clear a spot for him in RF/LF/ or 1B. Otherwise he is trade bait.

Lind, Lucroy, K-Rod available (as per Olney)

http://nypost.com/2015/11/09/sizing-up-the-market-for-top-reliever-slugging-catcher/ Do the O's have anywhere close to enough to bring in Lucroy? Honestly to me it would take one of the injuried "untouchables" Harvey or Bundy and include Jomar Reyes and Chance Sisco. Their system is not loaded by any means. Reyes and Sisco are really the two I would want the most. Harvey/Bundy are boom or bust top notch prospects with long injury lists. Givens would be a good piece to add to the bullpen. Christian Walker is a very good hitter and could be a solid everyday 1st baseman (but thought that about Hunter Morris as well), Trey Mancini is another guy who I wouldn't mind. Tanner Scott and Jonah Heim would be my last guys I like. Overall if they lose Weiters, they are going to have to empty out their system pretty good for Lucroy. They have 2 catchers I think have a MLB future possibly. 2 1B as well. 1 young 1b/3b possible MLB star. Then some decent arms to throw in. -
2015-16 Minor League Miscellaneous Offseason Updates

Prince was big but at Tyrone's age he wasn't that big. He actually was pretty well built and solid. Then as he got older he began to put on the bad weight. http://www.milb.com/images/2009/03/18/UEav28Z7.jpg http://cdn.c.photoshelter.com/img-get/I0000LyfZVh7t1jo/s/600/600/Fielder-Prince-83003-13-Janes.jpg http://cdn.c.photoshelter.com/img-get/I0000gLHI_yxedBo/s/500/Fielder-Prince-83003-1-Janes.jpg I really like Perry but he appears his playing career is in danger if he can't get a handle on his weight. 19 years old and hasn't even played High Rookie ball yet and is 300 lbs. If you are not proactive in taking your weight serious, sustainability will be very tough. Fielder has proved to be exception and not the rule. Really hoping they get him on a program in his first off-season and get him back on track. It will only make him that much better of a prospect. Could be in Wisconsin next year to start season. -
He wasn't very good behind the plate....His bat was very good. Outside of a strong arm, he really offered nothing defensively. behind the plate. His ticket is his power bat. They thought like most of us, why not just let him focus one his most important attribute. His defense was going to hold him back.

They have Demi Orimoloye ranked above Ian Happ. That makes me happy but give me Happ right now 100 out of 100 times. The difference in the scouts eyes. I 100 of 100 take the absolute freak who has nearly unmatchable (outside of Harrison) athleticism, speed, power combo, with the ability to possibly be a major force. Happ is more of the safe sure fire everyday MLB starter but don't think his ceiling even comes close to Demi's. With that said, Al Davis proved that freaks don't always equal freakish production. What a great list! When was the last time Brewers system was so deep! It's exciting! That list didn't even include a few guys like Houser who seem to be sky rocketing their stock, Michael Reed as well. To note on Houser, he to me as a starter at worse is a Peralta/Jungmann, big body, power arm who gets tons of ground balls, keeps 3-4ERA, doesnt k many guys. That said, he reminds me of Jimmy Nelson if he can continue to be able to take up Ks and be more dominant. Difference is, at Housers age, Jimmy was just starting to prove people wrong that he was a just safe wasted 2nd round pick and getting ready to break out in BC.... Houser will be in AAA, knocking on the MLB door as he as well starts to prove he was worth the high 2nd round pick

2015-16 Minor League Miscellaneous Offseason Updates

Man I really like Tyrone as a prospect but I hope the Brewers are able to get him down to a healthy weight. Looking at those pictures, he is much bigger than Prince was at a similar age. Perrys career may rely on him being able to drop weight. He looks more like Mike Daniels than a ball player right now. He went from listed at 260 to 300 over the summer. -
I'll keep hyping him as a future Ace, all he does is continue to show it! Houser is very similar to Jimmy Nelson outside of Jimmy was merely in Wisconsin still figuring things out at Housers age. Thank you Astros!
-
If walking is a skill set that can simply just be taught to any ball player, there wouldn't be so many players who wash out or struggle for whole careers to walk. This goes to show Stearns values guys who are willing to get on baseball....can't complain about that. With 600 PAs he would have deeply struggled to walk 10 times.... That is terrible. Michael Reed can walk that much in a week

2015-16 Minor League Miscellaneous Offseason Updates

So I am greatly excited about this photo (linked below)! We may need Josh (Agent39) to confirm, but apparently, Brandon Diaz is back working at one of his original positions he played coming out of high school....2B! With a logjam at lower levels in OF and not a whole lot at 2B, Brandon Diaz can raise his stock a lot more by making the switch. http://fourseamimages.photoshelter.com/gallery-image/10-13-2015-Instrux-Milwaukee-vs-Los-Angeles-NL/G00005EcHYFye3Fo/I0000TM5qB7s1mw4/C0000ursdyef6uOQ Also in this Instructional League are some first looks at new stateside players such as Jose Sibrian http://fourseamimages.photoshelter.com/gallery-image/10-13-2015-Instrux-Milwaukee-vs-Los-Angeles-NL/G00005EcHYFye3Fo/I00008ARe3TsmDHk/C0000ursdyef6uOQ Nattino Diplan http://fourseamimages.photoshelter.com/gallery-image/10-13-2015-Instrux-Milwaukee-vs-Los-Angeles-NL/G00005EcHYFye3Fo/I0000RSlrxs585DQ/C0000ursdyef6uOQ Ignacio Otano http://fourseamimages.photoshelter.com/gallery-image/10-13-2015-Instrux-Milwaukee-vs-Los-Angeles-NL/G00005EcHYFye3Fo/I00001kIDuHqiIX4/C0000ursdyef6uOQ As well as no shortage of Demi Orimoloye http://fourseamimages.photoshelter.com/gallery-image/10-13-2015-Instrux-Milwaukee-vs-Los-Angeles-NL/G00005EcHYFye3Fo/I0000EtjKxCRO7v4/C0000ursdyef6uOQ Or Clint Coulter http://fourseamimages.photoshelter.com/gallery-image/10-13-2015-Instrux-Milwaukee-vs-Los-Angeles-NL/G00005EcHYFye3Fo/I0000VibH7EA_ELw/C0000ursdyef6uOQ -
Defensively Monroe & Parker is not a down grade from Zaza and Dudley. Neither of those guys were really great defenders or great athletes at all. I say there is about the same. Have to see how Jabari and his new built up body helps.

MCW turning ball over and shooting way to much....not a trend that can continue. I have stood up for him since the trade. I have said he was forced to shot in Philly cause no one was around him and when he came here he tried to fill the shoes of our leading scorer (Knight)....He really needs to stop shooting and be pass first. He over dribbles, tries to do to much, and forces bad shots. Jason Kidd, didn't turn the ball over, he didn't take poor shots, and he fueled the offense by getting his teammates the ball in scoring positions. He took what the defense gave him but never tried to be the hero. MCW is just trying to do so much and he doesn't need to. When we went out and got him we talked about it was cause he was a young lengthy Kidd. Well it is time he starts to play that way; we don't need another Jennings.....We got ride of Knight for that reason. He was a score first guy, made too many turnovers, and forced to much. Still high on him but he needs to stop trying to do so much on offense. His job is to attack and create for his teammates....score when high percentage shots are given to you. Greg Monroe was something we haven't had in a long time last knight. He was outstanding! Giannis suspended and Henson only getting 10 minutes.... those are 2 of your top defensive players not on the court. I will not be happy if Henson never gets to be on the court with Monroe. Bucks need his rim protecting and energy of the bench.

Most interesting thing to me is just how deep this system is. This is one of the hardest list I have done. Prior to draft or trades we could graduate a lot of talent such as Arcia, Phillips, Lopez, Hader, Davies, Houser, Wagner, Reed, Rivera, Cravy, Barrios.....can still be in great shape with a great young wave. Trent Clark Gilbert Lara Kodi Mederois Clint Coulter Cody Ponce Monte Harrison Devin Williams Jake Gatewood Marcos Diplan Tyrone Taylor Demi Orimoloye Miguel Diaz Nathan Kirby Victor Roache Chris McFarland Jorge Ortega Wei-Chung Wang Brandon Diaz Cy Sneed Dustin Houle Franley Mallen Malik Collymore David Burkhalter David Denson Tyrone Perry Joantgel Segovia Taylor Williams And continue to roll on Now mix in a top 5 pick, early 2nd, 2nd rd competitive, and early 3rd, 4th, 5th. Then look who they can add in possible trades for Lucroy, Segura, Khris Davis and Lind over the winter.... This system is very exciting!
-
Lol it was just surprising because I'm really thinking he breaks out in his 2nd go at Wisconsin. He shouldn't be nearly as overmatched as he was last season. I kind of take his Aball numbers with grain of sand. 19 and simply over matched after advanced placement. If he would have started at Helena I believe he would have dominated (as he did) & be generating a lot more buzz this season, same goes for Gatewood. But the 2 19 year olds were overmatched and some people takes that as a knock on them. Even at 20 they will still be young for the level but I'm feeling confident.
-
Did I miss something? He was 19 in Wisconsin and overmatched, not surprising it happens. Was moved down to play in Helena where he was still young compared to competition and he dominated after a short adjustment. He hit .299 AVE /.410 OBP / .884 OPS 14 SBs for year prior to injury. In 17 July games prior to injury he was hitting .400 AVE / .493 OBP / 1.038 OPS & 11 of his steals..... He also had a very impressive Arizona debut. For a 19 year old 3 sport scholarship type athlete in high school, it will take time to adjust. He is only one year in on focusing on simply baseball. I only can see him moving up. He K's a lot right now but he offers way to much outside of that and upside

Brewers Farm System All-Stars
Jenkins5 replied to Harold Hutchison's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
Wish I remembered which link it was, might have been a baseball america article that mentioned it. His power seems to be real deal. I also believe he is Dee and Nick Gordon's cousin. Edit: Here it is- http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/2015-draft-report-card-brewers/ -
Only 6 NFL Head Coaches ever played professionally (2014) but forget McCarthy & Billichick, I wouldn't respect them at all as a player on their team!....what do they know? They never played pro ball! They didn't even play D-1 college football! Scrubs..... Same could be said for countless NBA coaches who have proven to pretty darn good. Playing the game professionally, at the college level, or even high school level doesn't matter one bit. Todd Hailey is a pretty good offensive coordinator in the NFL and he has never once in his whole life played a game of tackle football, he was a golfer. If a guy is smart, knows the game, and most important able to communicate and teach the game to others, they will be just fine. Playing professionally only gives you stories to tell or instant credibility based on your playing career, which can be a mistake. Means absolutely nothing for their success and it is foolish to think so. Just because a player was blessed with a natural ability to play the game, doesn't mean he will be the best choice to teach and coach the game to others.
-
Who is the most likely to be first graduate off the list? Davies is a no-brainer IMO but of the more difficult choices I'll go with Rivera or Reed as I could see one of those 2 breaking camp as either Super utility IF/Starting 3b or 4th OF/Starting CF Who will be the biggest climber? Super Difficult anyone 11-18 could skyrocket stock next season. The ceilings are so high for, Demi, Gatewood, Ponce, Williams Harrison, Coulter and Diplan. If I had to pick one.....I would go with Harrison. I think he is the closest to being a complete prospect at this point. Who will have the biggest drop? Tyrone Taylor- to many talented OF's who offer way more than him. Suter cause he only made the list based on 1 24 point vote. Most likely to make a comeback? Coulter will hit .280 with a .875 OPS knocking out 20+ HRs to go with 80 RBI's in Biloxi. He will win best power tool for the league and maybe offensive MVP. We will all overlook the destruction BC caused his numbers this season

Brewers Farm System All-Stars
Jenkins5 replied to Harold Hutchison's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
C: Dustin Houle, Brevard County - Now healthy, may be the first true catching prospect in system since Lucroy/Salome. He has a very good bat and is a solid developing catcher behind the plate. My guess is we will see him AA next season where he will be about league average for age. Brewers were aggressive with him and have since he was 17 but just has never been able to remain on the field 1B: Garrett Cooper, Brevard County/Biloxi - Overbay 2.0. Guy hits and gets on base. I'll gladly take that over a 30-40 HR guy who its for no average and can't walk. 2B: Chris McFarland - Maybe the most consistent and productive 2B we have in system. Not great at anything but very reliable and good at everything. Could be a sneaky MLB starter someday. SS: Orlando Arcia, Biloxi - 2 way stud SS who has shown power potential despite being thinner than a runway model. He is young and as his body fills out (he has frame to fill out nicely) the power should come. 3B: Yadiel Rivera, Biloxi/Colorado Springs He continues to breakout and it appears his opportunity will come at 3B. No one else worthy at 3B in system outside maybe Orf or Brennen-Smith OF: Trent Clark, Arizona/Helena - As professional as a high school hitter comes. He is the definition of a complete ball player. He is good in all aspects of the game and is arguably the hardest working player and who hustles more than anyone in system. Not to many guys will even run back to dugout after they strikeout. OF: Brett Phillips, Biloxi (with Milwaukee) - If he can keep that power coming and lower those K's a bit, he have a very nice OF: Monte Harrison, Helena/Arizona - Demi doesn't miss by much but what Monte was doing prior to his injury.....Wow! Scary to think, the way he was starting to play was him only scratching the surface of his true potential. DH: Michael Reed, Biloxi/Colorado Springs - Complete baseball player who will help out at the MLB level next season. He offers a lot to this team. Starting Pitcher (RHP): Jorge Lopez, Biloxi - Simply dominated at Biloxi and is best pitching prospect to come up since Yo (since they are very comparable) Starting Pitcher (LHP): Josh Hader, Biloxi - He is limiting his walks from being a potential Ace #TrueHaderHomer Closer: Yhonathon Barrios Biloxi Converted SS, small in size, not in arm strength. All he has done is impress since arriving in ARam trade! I'm talking at Biloxi, MLB, and now AFL. Brewers went for a boom or bust RP and seems like they may have a great decision! SECOND-TEAM C: Carlos Leal, Wisconsin Great Defensive catch who did a lot to help the young staff this year, more impressive was his consistancy with bat for a converted pitcher. 1B: Tyrone Perry, Arizona -Power is graded by some at 80....hopefully the Brewers find him a treadmill though as he now weighs 300 in Fall Instructional.... 2B: Franley Mallen - Really came on this year after being held back from joining his peers stateside. Performed well at Helena in small sample. Interesting to see if he makes Wisconsin or will stay in extended ball and open up in Helena SS: Jake Gatewood, Helena/Wisconsin He crushed the ball at Helena and hopefully he is ready to breakout in Wisconsin in his 2nd chance. Still very young but making strides. Needs to learn to shorten his swing. 3B: Nathan Orf, Biloxi - Default choice since our 3B selection is awful. He is a guy who very well could become a MLB utility player. He gets on base, is versitile in the field, and just a solid baseball player. OF: Victor Roache, Brevard County/Biloxi Power is there, he took steps in right direction overall as a hitter. Overall he is simply Khris Davis 2.0 with a stronger arm. OF: Clint Coulter, Brevard County People can bash him all they want over the season he had but really, he was doomed. He will breakout and mash in Biloxi next season. Ball doesn't move or carry in the air at all in BC, if you are not a line drive or slap hitter, you are in trouble OF: Joantgel Segovia Arizona/ Helena maybe the best pure hitter in entire system. I could care less if he even hits a double, triple, HR in his whole career. If he just hits and gets on base at the kind of clip he has so far in his young career, we will be just fine/ DH: Troy Stokes -A younger version of Michael Reed. Well rounded, complete player. High OBP, speed, Solid defender, decent pop, has Potential to hit for average. Starter (RH): Jorge Ortega, BC Couldn't strike out a fly but he has full command of all pitches, is crafty, young, and a workhorse Starter (LH): Kodi Mederios, Wisconsin This forum is so split on Kodi however being 18 most of the season pitching in Wisconsin with pretty good results is pretty outstanding. Didn't give up a single HR all season. He is simply a thrower right now but if he can learn to pitch, he has a high ceiling. Closer: Damien Magnifico, Biloxi -If he could just develop a second pitch, he could actually K a few guys and be a lights out MLB closer.... but has nothing but a 100 mph fastball -
I strongly disagree that this had anything to do with money. He is a young guy with vision, he's considered to be a pitching guru, and has built a strong track record for producing great results! He can flat out coach! He has been highly sought out for years. . Brewers are all about the vision for the future. They are bringing guys all who are all young with strong vision and are extremely passionate and highly regarded. More so, the coaches so far all are teachers of the game (Sedar, Cobbs, Johnson Pat Murphy (if he does come) all were minor league and/or college colleges who just know the game and how to develop) for Stearns, Counsell, Arnold.... and the guys they kept around in front office, are all highly regarded, young, rising stars/future GMs.
-
So as of now we are sitting with a front office of 4 highly regarded members, 1 who is now a GM and 3 who are well on their way of becoming GMs in the future. Zack is I think only 32 and he is a rising star, few months ago I read a couple things about Arnold and him being a sleeper pick for the Brewers GM. Ray has interviewed for GM jobs before and highly regarded. If the Brewers are success with this rebuild, all 3 of these guys could have themselves their own head offices for a MLB team. Hope they can bring in one more stude to replace Nichols
-
Agree. Houser reminds me of that Nelson, Peralta type power arm. Big strong body, durable, and could be an anchor in the top part of the rotation (more 2-3). Not a guy who wows but yet is very good. Hader on the other hand has that wow factor. He is a lefty with a goofy arm slot, throws upper 90's, at 21 in AA K'd over 10 batter per 9 while allowing hitters to hit less than .200 vs him. His growth in each season from nothing special 17th round pick to California League pitcher of the year at 20, to what he is now.....he is trending up at an incredible rate. I don't understand how he is not a top 5 player in this system almost universally. I believe we may see him in a couple more top 100s this next season. He just needs to improve consistency
-
Matt Dominquez at least offered gold glove defense and power (while it was down this season). He doesn't hit for enough average or walk enough as you'd hope for but I was surprised they turned away his power and defensive potential. Really to get any 3B we can build around, we will need to trade Luc, Davis, or Peralta. Lind or Garza could maybe land us a younger level AA, A+ 3B with higher ceiling. K-Rod could net another Delmonico type prospect
-
Is Jorge Lopez a top 100 prospect in all of MILB?
Jenkins5 replied to molitor fan's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
Going to be tough for him with Lopez, Hader, Wagner, Houser all right there, then still got Pena who can start, Cravy who could start, and Thornburg who could start. I said he could be a Mike Fiers which is not bad at his highest ceiling. However there has been Sheets, Yovani, and hopefully Lopez or Nelson, Peralta, Jungman as that next All Star Brewer pitcher Ace. Not under selling just really do not see Suter ever being in the conversation. In 10 years from now I will never look back and say man Surer was fun to watch! Man I hope this prospect could be as good as Suter! There is a reason no national and nearly no local sites talk about him or rank him. Just a guy who can be efficient in the back end. Like I said that's okay but let's not get carried away that we are looking at our future Ace
