  1. I know the bullpen is good, but you can't leave it to them every game with a 1 or 2 run lead...
  2. Nice approach, don't need to be the hero. Set up the next guy...in this case Cain.
  3. I'd have to agree with taking the sure out, but that doesn't excuse Munoz. Your a professional at this point, cover the friggin bag...not that I mind that he was lazy in this instance
  4. The umps must have missed the memo, we are supposed to get screwed on the strike zone...not benefit from favorable calls.
  5. I'm not sure why Guerra swung at back to back pitches to open the atbat. He's a pitcher, he should take at least one, probably two. Try and lengthen the at bat. Only Suter gets away with swinging first pitch, 430 foot bombs give you that leniency.
  6. Villar seemed unconvinced. I hope Sogard makes Reyes throw a lot of pitches, hope for a wild one and a run by the young pitcher throwing to a young catcher He doesn't get the benefit of a super slow motion on a force play, so they certainly shouldn't be leaving it up to whether or not Villar is convinced. But that close I can't believe he isn't ar least standing on 1st and making a case. Well right, but I know from playing that you generally know if you are obviously safe or out...but tough to tell definitively on a bang bang play. I didn't see the play(radio on my phone at work), but at the minimum it sounds like it was close. As for bunting, you can't look at the result to justify the bunt...what if Villar hits a bomb? Then a bunt would obviously be stupid. I think taking a chance to move the runners over would add pressure to the young pitcher. His stuff is so nasty, a very decent chance of a wild pitch will score a run in that spot. Also a decent chance Reyes has to field his position, and you never know how well a pitcher will handle that.

  8. Bummer, I think he had the right idea to bunt the runners over. Villar is generally a good bunter, but tough to put down 98.
  9. This may rub people the wrong way, but I specifically picked up Matt Carpenter in my fantasy league on Sunday...knowing he would destroy us this series. As a Brewer fan, I hoped I was wrong...but that guy seems to have our number.
  10. I don't mean to hijack the thread, but have you or anyone else seen any specific velocity readings on Supak...or know why he's having so much success so far? I remember seeing some video on him last year and was a bit underwhelmed by his offspeed...that and his velocity was more low 90s than mid 90s.
  11. Nah, they will just be able to get Santana, Braun, and aguilar in the game together. No need to bring up choi to continue to sit one of those 3. Potential rest day for Braun, PH for Arcia in a key spot late in the game...I don't think Choi would start more than 1-2 of those 5 games max, but adding him to the bench for that series adds value in my opinion. We'll see if they do it.
  12. My post wasn't in reference to his opinion on the play, just on the rule in general and his thoughts about what the catcher should have done. That part that amazed me was when he said players used to know the guy from third was gonna try and clip them so they cleared the plate. They used to get 3 feet away from the plate and if they couldn't they were braced for impact. I don't get how he thought the catcher didn't get 3 feet away from the plate. That's fair, and it also doesn't exactly condemn that catcher for his awful throw. He cleared home by plenty and based on the rules, knew he absolutely shouldn't have to deal with contact. Based on the rules, the catcher did everything exactly right.
  13. Those aren't his numbers. Not sure where you are getting that. He's at. 280/.331/.387/.718 Maybe those were May stats a couple days ago. Currently in May he's rocking over 800 OPS, and right now he's probably playing the best he has since 2016. Also, how many times over the last 2 weeks have you thought "what the heck are you doing Villar?!?" during a game? I can't recall him making a complete blunder lately.
  14. Based on that information, I venture to guess that Saladino will be back in 2-3 weeks if they push it.
  15. I think you overestimate how many good hitters we have. Villar's OPS is north of 800 in the month of May. I didn't realize Pina was struggling as much as he has been, that's still 7 good hitters. Braun is raking since coming off the DL and I don't think I need to defend the other 5 guys(Aguilar, Cain, Yelich, Shaw, Santana)
  16. Excellent point, I would be very surprised if Reyes was not on a pitch count. I wonder if that's a small part of the reason Perez/Pina/Arcia are sitting today. Most everyone else on the team is pretty good about working the count and seeing pitches.
  17. Exactly. Which is why Arcia can bat .150 and still be an asset to the team. There's enough offense at other positions. Especially right now with how well the rest of the team is hitting...and especially considering our next 5 games after today will have a DH. If he continues to hit like a pitcher...it's like we are playing with 8 good hitters and a pitcher the next 5 games, but we get the superb defense. Which speaking of those DH games, we should bring up Choi and send down a pitcher. We have 3 days off and 5 games over the next 8 days after today...the bullpen will get plenty of rest. It might not be a bad spot to DL Davies as we can easily get by with 4 starters for the next week or so.
  18. Rock is an old school idiot. The catcher's only job there is to clear home plate so he has a lane to throw to 1st base so he doesn't hit the runner in the back and he's obviously not going to take a step backwards and throw himself off balance and take away a lot of the power on his throw so his only choice is to step forward. And what does he expect him to do? Take 5 steps to clear and take away any chance at having a double play? You need to clear (he did) and get rid of the ball quickly to give yourself a chance of getting the out at 1st. I listened in as well, this is a misrepresentation of what Rock said. He said his preference is that the new rules aren't necessary and catchers need better coaching...which that part of what is noted above is accurate. But again, he said that's his preference. He also said based on the rules, it was a blatant violation and he couldn't believe the umps in New York didn't overturn the call. He also did not justify the slide, even if the rule didn't exist.
  19. Honestly, after the last handful of games I'm a bit excited to have Arcia's glove back at SS. I can think of at least a handful of plays that weren't made, that Arcia absolutely makes...and it's only been 4 or 5 games and I haven't been watching all that closely.
  20. 1B are generally less athletic and may have a tougher time avoiding a collision. Can you imagine Aguilar trying to manuever to avoid a collision on a close play?
