  1. I'm not sure why Cleveland would even want a negative value player, much less pay 110k. If they are simply giving money away, where can I sign up?
  2. The Brewers have gotten off to a good start by taking care of business against bad teams. The next month or so will really test them. If we win 15 games or more in May, our playoff odds should spike significantly. Who's ready for the Cubs to start having injuries? It seems like every team in baseball is dealing with at least 2 significant injuries to their better players except the Cubs. Their run of luck on that front should run out eventually, and then maybe they'll see a run like the Dodgers and Nationals are currently.
  3. Are you ready to believe in the "special sauce" yet? And I am not trying to rub it in your face right now because in a month, he could be a turd. But it sure seems like there is something "special" about JJ in a Brewers uniform. It's early. Let's hope he keeps it up. Still don't think his struggles last year can be dismissed as easily as saying "he likes Milwaukee so he'll be fine" but obviously I'm happy to be wrong so far. He has less than 18 innings. That's the equivalent of 3 good starts. Wily Peralta strung together 3 good starts of nearly the same caliber as this multiple times in Milwaukee. Heck, so did Jungmann on at least a couple occasions if I'm not mistaken. Jeffress isn't the only guy to have been especially comfortable in one setting. Krod struggled elsewhere but found a niche here. Plenty of guys move to big markets and can't handle such a big spotlight. I wouldn't completely dismiss his success being somewhat attributable to comfort level. That said, his split change has gotten so much better...and it's much more logical/measurable to attribute his success to the new/improved offering.
  4. I think its going to be Suter and a position player, likely either Phillips or a Sogard DFA. Counsell has said ideally he'd like an 8-man pen. Williams is pitching too well to demote in my opinion. I haven't paid as much attention to specific roster moves as usual, didn't realize we were at 13 position players. Suter and a position player seems likely. I also see and agree with your point on Williams...but look around. Which reliever isn't on fire right now? Williams is only the 6th best reliever currently based on ERA...at a 1.93. If they decide to stick with 7 relievers at any point, I could see Williams going down despite his success. It isn't like he'd be going down in favor of Drake or Hoover or Milone or Gallardo or some other nonsense pitcher...everybody in the pen is posting a career year to this point. It's pretty remarkable.
  5. When logan and knebel come back, I'm personally assuming suter and Williams go down. When that happens, who would you all say are the low leverage innings guys? Maybe Jennings and albers? But both have been incredibly good. It's going to be an excellent problem to have.
  6. Yeah, probably. They didn't sign Logan just to give up on him. I'm sure they'll option Suter down to AAA to continue starting. While they don't really have a "long" man, most of the pen guys provide decent length, so a traditional long man probably isn't a huge need. They could go to an 8-man pen, too, and drop Sogard or option Phillips. Logan and knebel coming back, I'm very curious what we do to make room. I feel like it unfortunately has to be suter and Williams...
  7. We are quickly approaching a point where Suter and Williams may get optioned when Knebel and Logan return...because we have an awful lot of good options. Drake was probably the 15th or 16th best relief pitcher in the system prior to DFA.
  8. Drake probably made a couple million bucks being a dreadful pitcher and he's in his early 30s. Even if he doesn't make another dime, he's probably borderline set for life if he's smart with his money. This might be the first time ever that bf.net is unanimously in agreement with a move made by Brewers management.
  9. I can see it now, brewers up 5-2 in the 7th and on comes drake. We'd go from an 80% favorite to an 80% underdog before he threw his first pitch.
  10. One of the biggest problems with the offense in this specific series is trying to hit home runs. If this series were in miller park, we probably win the first 2 games on about 5 homers. The cubs aren't trying to hit homers in cold conditions into the wind, they are trying to hit line drives. The results speak for themselves. Even schwarbers homer had minimal loft, he just hit a line drive incredibly hard and it carried enough to get out.
  11. There is only one decision. Cut drake. That is all. If our options were to keep drake or play with 24, we are better off playing with 24. Fortunately we have better options.
  12. Umpire at home was terrible today, but he was terrible both ways. Nothing he did cost us the game, Sogard booting a ball for a run and our best hitters not coming away with more than 1 run in the 7th with a big inning chance is what cost us the game. He was not equally terrible against both sides. The ratio of botched pitches was like 5 to 1 in the Cubs favor. And he probably intentionally called a couple the Cubs way to try and even it out a bit... The game absolutely could have gone differently if Heyward doesn't get walked on 4 straight strikes, or if certain counts were different. That slight edge the Cubs received from the umpires could have been the difference in the game...
  13. I'll add to this, if these games were in Miller Park we would have won both. We probably would have hit 4 or 5 HR, I don't remember the Cubs hitting anything deep that would have left Miller Park that didn't go out of Wrigley.
  14. It would be really nice if the umpires called a fair game. If we lose on a level playing field, fine. But ever since September last year...they've been out to get us man. I remember last year the umpires gave their friends/family all wearing cubs gear tickets to the games at miller park...yet I'm supposed to believe what I saw wasn't due to bias?
  15. Nice that we are waving the white flag in a 3-2 game...
  16. This is ridiculous when we have to play against the cubs AND the umps. unbelievable. I hope the Brewers file a grievance...the cubs already have a massive payroll advantage but apparently they need the rules bent in their favor as well...
  17. I think that's going to be a relatively serious issue actually. Hand injuries are so tricky in baseball. Hopefully I'm wrong. On a side, fox sports did a fantastic tribute to Davey nelson post game. Hopefully some others caught it.
  18. "Something, something valuable depth mumble mumble." - Craig Counsell Why don't the beat writers confront Counsell on this? Drake has never been a good pitcher. How he got past AA is beyond me. He's fringe useable against lefties only, but lefties wore him out pretty handily last night so that argument isn't even all that sound. All season so far it's been line drive outs...lopez was actually somewhat effective yesterday and is a much better option than Drake against any hitter.
  19. Lopez to AAA, Drake stays. I have no words.....
  20. Well, their bullpen has been fine and/or good. We'll see if the likes of Darvish, Chatwood, Lester, Quintana all continue to be much worse than career norms. This may be about where Chatwood ends up, wouldn't be a surprise. The rest I think will get back on track, even if Lester is a bit more of 2017 Lester rather than previous years. Some of the starters like Lester have some tough BABIPs that will even out soon I'm sure. They certainly won't be as bad as they've been, but I could see Lester/Quintana especially not bouncing back fully. Both have a ton of innings on their respective arms, it wouldn't surprise me if their stuff was generally not as sharp. I'm not sure I trust fangraphs numbers, I tracked one Lester start and he was much more 89-90 than 91-92 that they are reporting. It could be that specific start I suppose. Yes their bullpen is solid, that was always going to be the case. They are solid 1-7 in the bullpen, but any injuries will be a huge problem as their next man up options are sub-replacement level at best.
