  1. Santana needs to exclusively be utilized to get SP. I don't hate the general cost of that acquisition, but SP needs to be the target.
  2. Amen! I think a bunch of us need to remember this when we see an opinion we don't agree with. Everyone here is a Brewer fan. It just happens that we have different ideas on how the team will achieve success. Agreed. I honestly am against a majority of the major decisions made this offseason. I would not have gone this direction. But, it happened and I'm going to choose to embrace it rather than moan about the prospect losses. The fact is, we're going to have a good team this year and it's going to be fun to watch.
  3. Because Cubs fans think it's every players lifelong dream to play for the Cubs...or something
  4. https://www.northsidebaseball.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1914&start=1050 Their latest on Darvish. I can't believe they seriously think the best offer for Darvish is 4/90. A whole new level of stupid over there...
  5. These players are delusional. Are they really so stupid as to be unable to connect the dots? I could explain this to a 10 year old and they'd get it...
  6. The people on the Cubs board seem to think Theo has an offer of 4/$90 out for Darvish that they expect him to take...checking in on them from time to time is hilarious.
  7. This guy will look really dumb now if we either don't make a move in the next 24 hours(which I don't think we will) or if we don't sign Trevor Bauer...
  8. I'm concerned about Archer declining to some degree, also it isn't just Burnes but all the other pieces going to them. Archer for Burnes straight up, I think everyone on this board takes it. When you start adding significant pieces like Santana, Phillips, Peralta, etc...I'm not so sure I'm interested anymore.
  9. For starters, as far as velocity goes as long as you are hitting 93-94 consistently...you can be effective. If you don't have that, you need a true plus/double plus offering. Once you're hitting at least 93-94, offspeed stuff matters more than added velocity in my opinion. Archer has a true plus if not double plus slider. I understand Burnes works with 93-95 heat and a 4 pitch mix of average-above average offerings...but everything plays up due to plus/double plus command. Unless his stuff improves, that profiles as a #3/4 starter that could play up to #2 results due to command. That's what we're seeing from Davies, he's more of a #4 but his stuff plays up to a #2/3 results because his command is so good(also he has so much movement on his FB/change).
  10. Text from my source: Multiple trades are still in place. One trade is hung up on 1 player. Brewers are waiting for the call. Darvish camp quiet. High on Kipnis. Does Cleveland trade include a pitcher coming our way?
  11. I think with Burnes you are moreso hoping to get Odorizzi than Archer. The stuff isn't quite there. Though Burnes is still young enough that stuff could improve.
  12. I really don't want to lose burnes. I agree they should be able to be moved off Phillips, especially given their current outfield situation and acquiring Santana. I think we need to also move them off burnes and offer peralta or Ortiz in his stead. Maybe add a bullpen arm or a Pennington to sweeten the pot if needed. If they insist on Burnes, the list must end there. Santana + Burnes + maybe a Gatewood or Grisham...that's it. I still think that's too much for Archer though.

  14. I'm a bit baffled by that ask. That's a wild ask, holy mackeral. I'm definitely going to look at other options if tampa doesn't become more reasonable. Honestly, that ask is so insanely high to me...I'm not even countering something like that. I'm asking them to open with something more reasonable or I'll look elsewhere. There are other good SP we can target.

  16. I agree on the general value, it makes sense. The thing is GM's don't value everyone the same, and certainly not by what mlbpipeline or baseball america thinks. In general, this lines up with what oreilly mentioned...they want one potential star prospects to center the deal on. Cease is probably a high end bullpen arm...which has value...I don't see him starting. The other 2 guys are whatever, the prize was Jimenez. Burnes/Hiura/Lutz/etc...none of our guys quite measure up to what Jimenez was. It probably takes 2 top prospects to get Archer, in which case I'm walking away. I honestly would try to get the best starter I could with Santana and other prospects/spare parts guys...with maybe 7 or 8 prospects on an off limits list. I know that limits the SP in return, that's just how I'd approach it.
  17. Have you heard anything specifically with Cleveland? I feel like those teams match up so well it's almost a shame if we don't send Santana to them for pitching...
  18. It honestly sounds like Santana to TB is a no go in general. Maybe they would want Phillips but I doubt that with all their LH outfielders. I can't imagine us getting Archer without giving up Burnes and Hiura then, and I'm not interested in doing that. I think we should be more focused on a team like Cleveland, where we match up better. That or work out a 3 way deal...which to do so quickly is difficult and unlikely. A decent 3 way for Archer could be Santana to the Red Sox, Groome to the Rays, Archer to the Brewers. Obviously we'd have to give up some additional prospects, Red Sox as well, to even out the value...but maybe that would be a decent 3 way trade framework. If the Red Sox are seriously in on Martinez, I don't see how they couldn't also be in on Santana as a similar option.
  19. If they get a free agent, it's almost a guarantee that the 2nd arm is going to come via trade. Which is going to be expensive prospect-wise, likely costing at least one of our top young arms, if not multiple. You said a couple days ago you were against doing that for Archer. Are you for or against a trade, because you are kind of "candle in the wind"-ing it right now. If we sign a FA, teams trying to dump a high end starter lose some leverage...as we don't have as much of a glaring need. Santana could be traded for prospects or a high end reliever instead of a high end starter...or not at all of course.
  20. I thought the exact same thing to be honest, especially with division rivals involved. I would bet at least one of the Brewers/Cubs is holding their bid in place to keep the other teams bid up. I honestly think things will move like lightning once Darvish decides. It will be like that run on relievers, but with $50-120 million contracts. There are probably 9 or 10 contracts like that waiting to be doled out yet outside of Darvish.
  21. Brewer's have a decisive plan in place. What people don't realize is the Brewer's have "partial acceptance" trades in a holding pen. (Every team has this) They can act on them whenever they want. In most cases the offer is not ideal. If it was they would act obviously. They can revisit them at any time with the opposing team. However, the trade offer from the opposing team may change literally within an hour. It's not fantasy baseball were you offer a trade and you just wait for it to get accepted. For instance Brewer's offer goes into holding pen. Opposing team may accept Brewer's offer. Offer DOES NOT GO THRU UNTIL BREWER APPROVE FROM THE HOLDING PEN. This allows an offer to be sent but allows the team to work on something else with the same player in the other offer. As you can see this allows a team to take different directions at one time with the one player. The trouble is, the trade can take different directions. A trade maybe accepted, but when the offering team is weighing it's best options, a day later the accepting team can differ because they have a presumed better offer with a different team or just changed their mind. Yu is the holdup in regards to pitching acquisitions in general for all MLB teams. When Yu goes, chips will start to fall, but not that fast and here's why. No one is going to spend their $ on Cobb for example when it could of went to Yu.But you don't know that until YU is off the board. Also, the longer the lesser FA pitchers (Cobb, Lynn, etc) hang out to dry, the more their price goes down. GM's know this. So there maybe a collusion of philosophy amongst GM's even though there is not a true collusion of GM's with verbal or written agreement of each other like some want to believe. Do you think Yu could be holding up the position player side as well? Do you think the dominoes start falling on Monday when Yu finally decides? That's kinda what I'm expecting. And do you know how seriously the brewers remain involved on Yu?
  22. You don't have to prove yourself, you're contributions are very appreciated.
  23. I can be quiet and not say anything going forward. I'm fine with that. There are definitely a couple whiners on this site that complain about everything, including you. The vast majority including myself appreciate your tidbits and notes, please keep them coming.
  24. It's not that I don't think things are in the works, I just thing everything remains stalled until Darvish signs...and I don't think that happens in the next day or so. I'm expecting end of the weekend at the earliest before significant moves happen. I hope I'm wrong.
  25. I don't think there's an artificial limit on payroll, not sure where you're getting that from. In 2014, the Brewer probably barely squeezed out a profit...possibly lost a small amount of money after factoring in below the line costs. 2015-17 saw payrolls go down as we rebuilt, but we also saw significant investments into the stadium, upgraded spring training facilities, and a purchase of a minor league affiliate. Mark/Stearns have also said that money saved on payroll in these rebuilding years will be put toward the club in contending years. As plush noted, nothing Attanasio has said or done has given the impression that he's all about profit and doesn't want to win a world series while also improving the fan experience. Attanasio is a very good owner, and the future is bright.
