  1. Joseph, I'm a numbers guy and that's too involved for me to follow. But, your end results for every one of these I've read have always been very good/reasonable in my opinion. I think the deal is reasonable and I think both sides would seriously consider that if offered by the other side.
  2. But he’s still good enough that he should be playing when healthy Brantley has played 238 games the last 3 years combined. Chisenhall had multiple injury issues last season. Both guys hit left handed and both have experience in CF. There would be plenty of playing time and platoon opportunities available with Santana, along with insurance in case of injury. Having all 4 guys may even help players stay healthy throughout the season.
  3. It wouldn't be unreasonable for Nottingham to open in AAA as the primary guy. And either way, it wouldn't be hard to find non-40 man filler to catch in AAA if needed. The issue is 40 man space. There is always an outside chance that Bandy would clear waivers and could be outrighted to AAA when the time comes.
  4. I don't think that's equal value. We should get relief help or prospects back in that deal. I personally like a Santana+ for Salazar and Mejia deal. Depends on how much we'd have to add. I think a deal centered around Santana/Salazar makes sense for both clubs though.
  5. If Nottingham is the guy to go, it will definitely be in a trade for significant value(as part of a package for SP would be one option as you noted). Nottingham is still young and talented, and still has significant value contrary to some opinions. I wondered the same as many though, is this a depth move for us to clear a 40 man spot? The likeliest to go has to be Bandy, Susac is a good guy to have as a backup catcher in case of injury and Pina/Vogt are penciled into the 25 man. It's also possible they think highly enough of Nottingham that he's ready to open in AAA and come up in the event of an injury...which would make Susac redundant. Or maybe it's just a depth move, we'll find out the day before pitchers and catchers report...as that's probably when this epic staring contest will end and all offseason activity will finally happen.
  6. Realmuto has a ton of value, but I'm not sure he's going to fetch a return that strong. It shouldn't be surprising that teams looking to rebuild want to trade for our prospects, our system is loaded. Miami fans surely like the Yelich to Atlanta rumors, same with Pittsburgh fans with Cole to NYY. Both those front offices are very good and won't overpay in value for those players. Unless you are trading with fools like Dombrowski or Epstein, the days of insane prospect hauls for established major leaguers are pretty much over. I don’t think that offer isn’t far off what it would take honestly. He is incredibly young, proven, and controllable three more years. That is twice as long as Jonathan Lucroy. He doesn’t have the MVP like year under his belt that Lucroy did, but he is younger and controlled longer. If he is a 3+ WAR player(not hard to believe) he isn’t definitely worth that kind of package. I don't think age is a huge factor, but team control absolutely is...and Lucroy was attained for 1.5 years of control while Realmuto for 3. Lucroy was a better hitter at the time and had the multiple all stars. They seem like a push defensively. Teams will pay a premium for premium talent though, and Lucroy was an all-star vs Realmuto being a very good player. I would say maybe their value's are equal, though a team may give up more for Realmuto if they think he can improve and get to prime-lucroy level or better...and he'd have to do that quickly given he turns 27 this year. I think general consensus on the trade was lucroy for brinson and ortiz for jeffress, with cordell as additional value. Brinson's value has gone up significantly since then, I don't think Realmuto is the caliber of player that should warrant including Brinson. I could see Realmuto getting 3 good players, but the value I see is moreso Peralta or Ortiz + Harrison + a depth type...like ponce. Or maybe they go Peralta or Ortiz + Ray + Dubon + an upside play like Kirby or Pennington. I don't think I'd want to do a package like that, but that's what I think is more fair. And again, I just don't see Realmuto as the caliber of player that warrants including brinson/burnes/hiura in a deal.
  7. I've heard it talked about before. Not often but it does get brought up. And Packer fans have the general ineptitude of the rest of the division to thank for a good chunk of their success. This year's Vikings team is the only one I can think of from the division from the past 10 years or so that is a legitimate contender. The Lions had a pretty good team a few years ago but for the most part a healthy Rodgers and Co could just roll through 3 average at best teams to win the division. The NFC North(aside from GB) has had 7 playoff appearances in the last 8 years(since 2010). The AFC East has had 3 aside from the patriots. The NFC north has had 7 seasons of 10 or more wins in the same timeframe, the AFC East has had 3. The 2 years prior to this sample included the Favre in Minnesota years, hard to not call that Minnesota team a legit contender. It's not really up for debate, the NFC North has been far more competent than the AFC East
  8. If the Patriots have to face the Steelers, that will be a tough game. All 6 NFC playoff teams and arguably 1 or 2 non-playoff teams are better than every AFC team aside from Pittsburgh and New England. The NFC field strength is much deeper. Also you could argue New Orleans, Minnesota, and pre-wentz injury Eagles are about as good as Pittsburgh. So it's really up to the former 2 and Pittsburgh to stop New England.
  9. Couldn't agree more. I quickly ran win totals for these teams. Combined the AFC East aside from the Patriots hit double digit wins 9 times in 17 years(times 3, so out of 51). They won 6 or less games 21 times in the same timeframe(over 40% of the time). This year seriously highlights just how lucky they get...having to face Mariota/Malarkey at home to get to the conference championship. I don't understand how the line is less than 20 points, seems like easy money. And you know the Jaguars are going to find a way to beat the Steelers so Brady gets to beat Mariota and Bortles on his way to the Super Bowl.
  10. https://puckettspond.com/2017/12/01/minnesota-twins-offseason-trade-profile-milwaukee-brewers/ I figure this thread should have at least one ridiculous trade proposal. This article includes 3. The one I would dub as "ludicrous" is Josh Hader for Nick Gordon. Even if you value him purely as a bullpen guy, it's not even close. You'd have to look at the Ken Giles return to get an idea of what Hader should cost. The other trades I don't really like either. I would much rather trade Broxton for prospects than for a 30 year old pitcher coming off back to back 5+ ERA seasons and 2 years of team control. The deal for Ervin Santana is the most reasonable of the three if it were offered, it depends on the rest of the offseason plan though.
  12. His bat doesn't play well in RF. He's a career 290/342/421/763 hitter. Even if he maintains that production, his bat doesn't play in a corner. He's cracked double digit HR twice in 5 full seasons with a max of 16. That's all well and good for a plus-defensive CF, but is not at all what you are looking for from a corner OF. Similarly, signing Cain and moving Brinson to RF negatively affects Brinson's value.
  13. Well I guess we could ask him... agent39, are you just trying to drive up his value? "We are staying with our goals and priorities,” said Stearns, who has focused on starting pitching, his bullpen and finding help at second base. “We think we’ve made progress with the work we’ve done to this point. We’ll see what the next four, five, six weeks have in store for us." Pulled from Haudricourt's article. Reading between the lines, that suggests reported interest may just be a phone call checking in on asking price.
  14. It's one thing to have a CF prospect getting paid a min salary break into the bigs and fill in a corner spot. It's another to pay the noted asking price for a defense-first CF and stick him in RF. I can't imagine a scenario where Brinson and Cain are both on the roster, it just doesn't make any sense. If you really want to get rid of Santana in RF, moving all of Santana/Brinson/Broxton it would then make sense again to target Cain and stick Phillips in RF. Phillips isn't quite as good on defense as Brinson, and Phillips plays up in RF with that 80 grade arm. This series of moves probably nets us at least 1 high end SP and RP along with some solid prospects in return. You'd bring in Cain, and also a 4th OF that could fit the corner spots well(phillips/perez would backup CF so your target would be a bat first guy). All this said, it's still way too many moving parts. Way more likely that we deal one outfielder(Broxton) for a RP or prospects, sign a RP, and roll into spring with Woodruff/Hader/Suter/Gallardo/Guerra/Jungmann/Houser/Willaims/etc battling for 2 SP and 2 RP jobs.
  15. Because you would have traded Santana for a haul before signing him. I would imagine Cain in RF would give you very good defense. Brinson also gives good defense. Stokes would likely be better defensively in right than Santana as well. Both would cost far less than Cain, not just on payroll, but in terms of the pick and bonus pool. I'm not opposed to dealing Santana, but if the Crew signs Cain... I think that becomes a step back in some ways, and it hurts the farm system. I think this idea of bringing in Cain and dealing Santana/Broxton makes some sense...but at the same time Cain or Brinson lose so much value playing RF, especially in Miller Park. We have a very small park and don't benefit as much as we would in San Diego or Miami or Pittsburgh from plus defense/speed at corner spots. I think if all the moving parts happen as some hope, Brinson would have to go with Cain taking over CF for it to make the most sense. I know half the board is itching to "sell high" on Brinson despite how high his value would skyrocket with even a decent season at the MLB level...but I don't think that's a route we should or will go.
  16. Good catch, Eye Black. I hadn't noticed this. Add to your point, Jeffress and Logan are heavy groundball pitchers as well on the relief side that were either brought in or extended. I still don't like the move for Cobb unless it gets close to the $40-50 million range, but there's definitely a ton of value in finding pitchers that keep hitters from elevating the ball.
  17. I wondered why this was even a thread, as I remembered this guy being a terrible hitter. He's actually posted a couple solid back to back seasons. That said, he's a 3b that can play corner OF...doesn't really fit anything we need. No way am I interested in giving up the above listed package for him. Any trade scenarios that don't involve pitching or possibly 2nd base frankly don't make much sense based on the composition of the team. Targeting another position(like outfield...Cain) require so many moving parts that they really don't make much sense. Stick with the simpler explanation, the Brewers are targeting pitching and pitching...with a side of pitching...in everything they are doing right now.
  18. I tend to agree, I feel like Harrison could be virtually a Brinson clone this time next year...but with slightly louder tools across the board. If either one of those guys finds a way to hit MLB pitching, limitless potential.
  19. I think Houser is too old, too low of upside, and too likely to land in relief. His best case scenario is probably a mid-rotation starter, but he's far more likely to land in relief at this point.
  20. I feel like this conversation is heading in a bad direction and should shift gears or stop.
  21. I see Brinson and Burnes for sure in the top 30. Harrison, Hiura, and Woodruff in the 50s or 60s somewhere. Phillips, Ortiz, Peralta, Diaz, Ray, Lutz, Erceg are probably on the bubble somewhere. Probably all somewhere between 90 and 175, at that range where many guys blend together for different reasons.
  22. After the most recent set of moves(Chacin, Gallardo, Logan) I have the Brewers around $73M assuming Gallardo makes the roster, with a potential $7.4M in incentives to Gallardo/Logan/Jeffress.
  23. Passed physical, done deal.
  24. https://www.mlb.com/news/pipeline-podcast-prospects-on-top-100/c-264315314 Callis gushes pretty hard on Harrison in this article. Interesting take on him, and the general perception makes sense. That he faded to anonymity due to 2 injury plagued years, but showed up to fall league with his loud tools and got himself back on everyone's radar. Callis noted Harrison will probably be somewhere in the middle of his personal top 100, and Mayo noted he'd be top 100 as well. Safe to say Harrison will likely overtake Ray and end up in their top 100 somewhere.
  25. There have been quite a few awful proposals from fan sites and national sites. The one from the Royals thread was a perfect example. The writer says how perfectly we match up as trade partners, but in reality we match up well with any team looking to trade away a SP, RP, or 2B because our farm is so strong. Same reason the Braves match up so well in discussions for Yelich and Realmuto, every rebuilding team's fans want to trade their players to top farm systems. I'll be curious to see some links to posted trade proposals, especially anything involving Archer.
