  1. This is gonna be a big half inning. Top of their order, barnes in against 2 lefties.
  2. I highly doubt Davies bats again. We need the offense. Unless 1-2-3 of course. Otherwise probably hader in the 8th to face the top of the order.
  3. Do you think they are planning on 2 innings from Edwards? All lefties due up for us next half inning
  4. Come on man, the pitcher got out and walker smoked one into an umpire assisted double play. That inning was just unlucky, easily could be 3-2 if that one gets by Rizzo
  5. Nobody should be surprised that a close play went the cubs way.
  6. I think Shaw is gonna hit one out today. I feel like he's making decent swings, just can't square one up just right. Here's hoping...
  7. That ball was hit really friggin hard in fairness to walker. Not the easiest to pick.
  8. I just realized I think Davies threw his first changeup of the day against schwarber there
  9. So far walker and Phillips are the only ones that have looked good at the plate. Braun clearly has no intention of working the count. He's swinging early and often.
  10. Davies should have been out of this inning a long time ago. Cubs weak contact is falling in while none of our contact has found a hole yet
  11. Arrieta seems to have sharpened up that inning. Nice at bat by Phillips, too bad he couldn't clear the pitchers spot. Arrieta hasn't struck anyone out yet, and the brewers strike out a lot. I feel like some of this contact will fall in next time through
  12. Good news is arrieta doesn't seem very sharp. Just need to execute
  13. Braun and Shaw both just missed good pitches to hit. That curve slid right into Shaw's wheelhouse and he was ready for it. Just a hair in front of it...
  14. I think I heard that the Cubs will have Arrieta on a 75-80 pitch limit. It would be nice if the Brewers could get to him and get him out early. I suspect we’ll be seeing Justin Wilson somewhere in the middle innings to face the Brewers lefty heavy lineup. That's the part where aguilar, broxton, etc ph... We have a ridiculous amount of bench options
  15. Hughes will be available. Hader is also likely available. The other 3 are likely not available.
  16. Pina likely will get in the game in the 5th or 6th inning as a PH and/or for defense. Davies also has a really good move to 1b which should make running tougher.
  17. Every game is a must-win playoff game. Winning series likely won't be enough to get in. It's nice that we had the bullpen day yesterday and have our 4 actual starters going this series. It's too bad we aren't getting Montgomery again this series, that game sure was fun.
  18. 2-2 would basically mean no division for us. 3-1 still puts us 2 games back in the loss column with a week to go. It must be 3-1 or 4-0 or the division is gone. Wildcard will be entirely dependent on the Rockies obviously, and Cardinals to some degree as they are still very much in the picture.
  19. Of all days, Thames should be leading off today. Don't give Arrieta a chance to "settle in" after his 2 week absence with someone like Sogard or Villar. Thames-Walker-Braun-Shaw-Santana-Vogt-Sogard/Arcia-Phillips-P. That's my lineup call.
  20. well done good sir!!!
  21. I looked at brewers pitcher stats vs cubs hitters this season. The Cubs have struggled mightily against Barnes and Hader, also to some degree against Drake as well. Hughes has a 2 WHIP, he probably shouldn't pitch at all this series if we can help it. The Cubs have also struggled against Knebel/Swarzak, but obviously those 2 guys aren't going to be available tonight.
  22. This is the Brewers second half. Get guys on and then K, K, K. I generally hate the pressing excuse as to why guys aren't driving runners in but it's pretty obvious Braun, Shaw, and to a lesser extent Santana are. Both Braun and Shaw go up there swinging at anything close to the plate nowadays, very out of character. This is spot on. It's amazing how often Braun has been swinging at the first pitch. Work the count and get YOUR pitch, don't swing at every strike or anything close. Trust your teammates to knock you in if they pitch around you.
  23. YES So that's why we can't complain when the Brewers trade away a pitcher that's just about to get a big pay day. Better a year or two too early than a year or two too late. It's also why you need to think twice and three times before trading away any pitching prospects. You need a constant stream of pitching, and you never know which ones will pan out. So you need quality AND quantity. Also, agree Guerra can get another chance. (Don't agree he DESERVES another chance, but that's semantics.) He has options left correct? If so, he's a perfect guy to stash in AAA and call-up when needed. If he has options left, fine. He needs to earn another chance with a good AAA showing. Keep in mind he will be 33 next year, even if he does figure it out again...how many good years can you really expect out of a guy who turns 33 next year?
  24. A worn down Knebel/Swarzak are not going to be as effective as even a Jeffress/Torres/Drake. We've seen what happens to effectiveness when you overuse a guy. Think Smith/Thornburg, heck even Barnes this year to some degree. I know it's late in the season but these 2 guys just aren't going to be effective enough pitching with no rest. Counsel made a huge blunder pitching Swarzak in the 8th yesterday. Either roll with Hader or cross your fingers and combine Torres/Drake. It isn't a given by any stretch that those 2 guys blow the 8th. I'm ok with using Knebel in the 9th there, and then having Swarzak act as closer tonight if needed. Considering the mess Counsel created for himself, I think the top 3 relievers for tonight would have to be Hader/Hughes/Barnes in the eyes of CC. Drake/Wang/Torres might pitch if Davies can't go deep. But that's the other piece here, Davies going 7+ strong innings would be unbelievably huge today. If Davies goes over 7 innings and we are leading a close game, I wouldn't be shocked if Hader was used to finish whatever is left and then is off limits tomorrow.
