  1. From a value perspective I agree they lost but not by a ton. Shedding all that payroll does have value beyond a potentially cheapskate owner putting money in his pocket. It also clears their 2 3b logjam. Also, they may feel like they are selling high on winker. They could be positioning to land a true SS and hopefully get lucky with pitching to have a good first half and add more pitching at the deadline. I'm aware I'm grasping at straws a bit but it's possible this makes sense pending what they do going forward...
  2. It's HH19
  3. My initial thought was like Freddy Peralta honestly. Mariners are in win now mode so it would be more of an actual baseball trade than a prospects for player trade. Maybe for Freddy we would get additional value in return. Or maybe it's lauer plus or maybe they really like Ashby, but whatever it is the primary players we send need to be ready now for it to make sense for the Mariners.
  4. With the Mariners grabbing winker and Suarez, they have a bit of a surplus in the outfield. I understand they have the DH, but I feel like the brewers match up really well with them on paper. I wonder about a potential brewers SP for kelenic on a sell low. Or even potentially Kyle Lewis. Kelenic fits better as I'm not sure you want to give him 600 AB right off the rip unless he proves ready, but I've been seeing these teams as a match for a while and adding winker makes them that much more of a match for me.
  5. How often does the team that wins the offseason with the flashiest moves end up translating that to a world series birth? I feel like very often it doesn't work out that way...
  6. I saw the as well. While it certainly doesn't help, with 12 team postseason and how much talent that team has...there shouldn't be any real concern about that team making the postseason. And Tatis should be recovered by this injury well before September.
  7. There are a handful of GMs in baseball that I feel like have a bit too much...arrogance I guess. The twins gm has struck me as one for a while, as has the Mariners gm. I believe it was the twins gm that traded for a player a year or two back only to "flip" him. That kind of stuff just isn't going to work how you want it to at this level against the 28 smartest people in baseball and Dave dombrowski. I suspect the twins do have a grand plan, but I kinda expect it to be a lot of moving pieces with little to zero net gain. Just kinda doing stuff to do stuff. Just one guys opinion...
  8. Boxberger back on a 1 year 2.5 mil deal. Good signing.
  9. The mods are welcome to retitle it, I'm not sure how to or if I can. That's another fair point. I was also surprised to see burnes involved in MLBPA stuff considering his age and service time.
  10. There's an article in here on how a few guys spent their off season. Love to see hiura working on his leg kick. I was a bit disappointed to see yelich say he simply had a normal off season. Please tell me you tried to do something different after being very mediocre last year. At the very least tell us you're in the best shape of your life. I'm starting to get the vibe that work ethic might be a problem.
  11. I didn't realize until now that it was only going to the top 100 players. I do wish there was a bit more money in that pool but it is what it is. One thing I'm not sure was clear. In the case of Corbin Burnes, would he received $2.5M and additionally a chunk based on his WAR? I was hopeful guys with Burnes and Vlad type seasons would be able to get at least 4-5 million bucks through this bonus pool but it looks like they won't quite get that much if they cap out at the $2.5M.
  12. I'm most excited to see how many trades get executed in the next 48 hours. There's no way these GM's haven't all been talking the entire 99 day lockout. There's just no way there aren't double digit trades that are done in theory and a button push away from being confirmed/executed.
  13. Interesting, the MLBPA executive committee with 5 Boras clients voted 8-0 against. They supposedly wanted the CBT higher. The team reps voted 26-4. The 4 dissenting were NYY, NYM, STL, HOU. Shocker that Boras clients were so concerned with the CBT, seems like they more or less held negotiations hostage for their own self interest and less so for the interest of the players as a whole.
  14. With how abbreviated spring training is and all the unknowns, i wonder if some players in south/central american countries will run into visa issues or general issues getting into the country and reporting in a timely manner. I remember k-rod always was late to spring training, which for him isn't a big deal but for a freddy peralta who needs to stretch out...?
  15. If I remember right, the players unanimously voted no to the first "deadline" that MLB created i want to say on February 28th. i suspect there have been multiple votes.
  16. "Team votes are coming on now (delivered by player reps) and so far they are in favor. So far players are going against the executive council." From Jon Heyman. Interesting. Maybe...
  17. Someone on twitter pointed out that 5 of the 8 executive board are Boras clients. Wonder if that plays a role or not... Starting to look like today won't be the day. Today was the first day I was optimistic and thought the deal might actually happen.
  18. MLB apparently asked MLBPA to drop both the 2018 grievance regarding 4 tankers and the 2020 lawsuit regarding COVID. I wonder if those were always part of the agreement or is MLB is trying to pull a fast one once they get to the 1 yard line. I reeeeeeeeally hope it isn't the latter, but based on how things have gone I suspect it is part of the latter.
  19. Arguing over figurative pocket change now. If this doesn't get done this afternoon, I really don't know what to say anymore. 150M is 0.23% of 65B. If only my calculator had a 0.23%/2 function.....
  20. I would like to see the players more or less accept this offer, except maybe just ask to have the bonus pool bump from 50 to 60 spread over the 5 years.
  21. MLB just issued a proposal. Barely moved on CBT and min salaries, biggest move was from 40 to 50 on bonus pool. For me, it seems like that bonus pool is the best chance the players have of getting movement. MLB CBT: 230M in ‘22 to 242M 244M in ‘26 Union CBT: 232M in ‘22 to 250 in ‘26 MLB Bonus Pool: 40M 50M all 5 years Union: 65M in ‘22 to 85M in ‘26 MLB minimum: 700M to 770M 780M Union: 710M to 780M I piggy backed above off a tweet from Jon Heyman and showed the changes that were recently announced. Baseball is probably going to take in 60-70 billion over the next 5 years, I would guess they are arguing over how to split up the last 150 million or so at most...probably less. And that's combined over the 5 years.
  22. Don't forget trades, don't forget arbitration needs to happen. And definitely don't forget...there will without question be tampering allegations when there's a pile of signings within 48 hours.
  23. It's very reasonable to think that the "advisors" are the ones who greatly oppose this. The numbers I've seen indicate that the top 600 bonuses in the last normal period prior to covid totaled 163.9 million. That number was unlikely to balloon because we are working under a pool system where each team has a cap. In the first draft of a new draft system, the bonuses for the top 600 picks would be 180.5 million. Thanks for throwing the numbers out there. I feel like all that needs to be agreed to right now are total dollars. Literally every other aspect can be figured out in the coming months. My guess is the players counter at 200 million for bonuses and then the posturing continues and 100 million of revenue is lost while negotiating over this remaining 20 million. I really wish this was in blue but it seems to likely given the level of incompetence we are seeing.
  24. That's good news. It's annoying that coming up with this took more than an hour. This really should have taken like 5 minutes, yet MLB and players punted away a weeks worth of revenue and made it take a full day.
