  1. Well I tried, comments like this are wildly unenjoyable. ✌️
  2. It sounds like you want to see more Hiura/Taylor and less Mccutchen/cain. I generally agree, though I just went and looked and Hiura/Taylor have played in 11 and 9 of the 17 games this season. Cain/Mccutchen have played in 11 and 16 games this season. I think that's a pretty reasonable allocation of playing time. Maybe a bit less McCutchen, but he's also the shiny new toy so it's not weird that he's playing a lot. I also think our whole offense, but notably McCutchen will improve a fair amount from what he's doing currently.
  3. Can we also create an area for all the negative people to go to avoid making the in game thread utterly unbearable? Maybe throw a couple boxes of tissues in there in case it isn't a 10-0 Brewers win...
  4. I'm going to avoid the criticism and just point to baseball as a whole. The Cardinals have the 15th best batting average in baseball at .234, 15th best OBP at .311, and 15th best slugging at .361. Currently a middle of the pack offense is .672 OPS. Offense across baseball is currently very very down. The Cardinals were also the 15th best OPS in 2021 at .725. I'm sure I could get more detailed, but it's very clear that offense is down pretty much across the board in MLB.
  5. 23 games, I would have probably said 12-11 or 11-12. I feel like a team with really good pitching takes a minute to get locked in, and once that happens the wins start rolling.
  6. NL Central Standings: Brewers 92-70 Cardinals 88-74 Cubs 77-85 Reds 74-88 Pirates 0-162 68-92 Brewers Categories Most Valuable Player: Willy Adames Cy Young: Corbin Burnes Most Surprising Player: Keston Hiura Most Disappointing Player: Christian Yelich Under the Radar Player to Watch: Tyrone Taylor and Jose Urena Rookie of the Year: Aaron Ashby I'm late to the game but this is what I would have picked before the season.
  7. Thanks for posting that link. I remember seeing something like it but couldn't find it. Also, I'm extremely hopeful that 2 teams tie in all of these metrics so we can see a playoff team decided by coin flip. Vegas would certainly be thrilled and it could easily be a half hour or one hour tv segment...
  8. Automated balls and strikes will be tested at the MLB level at each stadium this year. So hopefully in 2023 we no longer have to deal with this stuff. Hader is hard enough to hit, give him an extra 2 inches off the plate and its not fair. I found cruising twitter that the segura "strike" was 6.47 inches off the plate. Home plate is 17 inches wide. Segura very well could have been hit by the pitch if he didn't stand so far off the plate. The NBA and NFL I would not agree are perfect, they are lightyears ahead of MLB though which is your primary point. I would bet a decade from now...MLB still won't be as good as NBA/NFL is currently.
  9. This is not correct. Run differential is not one of the criteria for tie-breaking involving post season play or really anything for that matter... That said, in baseball stats matter for each individual player. A hr hit in the top of the 9th of a 7-1 game is just as impactful to your end of year statline when negotiating a contract as one hit in the bottom of the 9th of a tie game. Same with a stolen base. Furthermore, every pitch thrown by an opposing pitcher is valuable to your team in a multi-game series. Getting on base, scoring runs, etc can get another team to use more pitches/pitchers and be less effective the following day or days. Bottom line, running up the score is just what it is and I really don't have any problem with it.
  10. There are 5 months left in the season, and the advantage of having a number of younger starting position players with upside is there's a pretty reasonable chance they improve throughout the year. Imagine if Adames or Urias turned a corner like Yelich did in the 2nd half of 2018...
  11. Signing Castellanos is basically what the Cubs did over and over again with their terrible signings that turned what should have been 3-4 years of world series appearances and 6-7 year of playoff contention into less than half that. And now the Cubs suck and will likely suck for a while, which is absolutely embarrassing for a large market with the deck stacked so heavily in their favor...
  12. On Ballys i turned on a replay of the prior game yesterday. They apparently cut commercials for the replay and the total game time was 2 hours and 11 minutes or something. I'm pretty sure most games against the pirates were around 3 hours, so that tells you how much time gets added with just commercials...
  13. I tend to take a peek at a few days of link reports at a time as it's getting harder to keep up with, life happens and whatnot. One thing I tended to notice is a lot of winning, way more than usual for the Brewers farm. I went and looked and I believe every affiliate has won at least 2/3 of their games at this point. Certainly nice to see some W's along with some good early performances from key prospects...
  14. Baseball is so weird, matchups like this tend to not work out how they theoretically should on paper. If Brubaker was a soft tossing lefty I would be absolutely terrified for today's game. I'd like to see a nice clean 5-0 win with Burnes pitching 7 innings and devin williams pitching a clean 9th inning.
  15. Talking about strictly offense when discussing how the position player group measures up to the rest of the league makes no sense. It's like saying our pitching isn't good enough because they are below league average at throwing curveballs. It's also kinda tough to complain about projecting to be the 5th best run differential in baseball considering we are one of the very smallest markets in the league. It almost seems like you expected the brewers to add freddie freeman or something and the offseason was a failure because of it.
  16. I was putzing through Yelich statcast data and found something interesting and yet super ridiculous at the same time. Yelich had his worst 2 chase rates of his entire career in 2018 and 2019...his MVP years. The plate discipline section has some interesting stuff. His chase rate this year is by far the best of his career so far, but his chase contact percentage is far worse than at any other point of his career. In 2018/2019 it was upper 50s and so far this year it's only 22 percent. The majority of his plate discipline trends are good so far, but the chase contact jumped out at me as glaringly horrendous. It's also hard to say "he needs to focus more on making contact on crap pitches out of the zone". Chasing less is just so much better and he's doing that.
  17. I think that's what the majority of posters have been saying actually, and career performance/projections fit the narrative that the Brewers position player group is good. We have 7 position players projecting in the 2-3 WAR range. The only position we don't have that is 1b, but there's certainly upside in both hiura and tellez. Only a few teams have 7 guys projecting for 2 or more WAR. We also have upside in guys like Urias, Adames and Yelich that can easily be 5-6+ WAR guys if things go right.
  18. Weston Wilson I think would have so much better of a shot if he was a left handed hitter. I don't know how good his glove is at positions but I believe he plays in a lot of spots. So theoretically as a LH bat he could compete with what Jace is providing if he ever struggles and Jace sees a pretty fair amount of playing time. As a RH bat he's really competing with Hiura/Brosseau for playing time when Tellez/Wong don't play(Yelich too but there's about 30 million reasons he won't sit much). Hiura has just way too much potential to not get all the playing time that those 2 guys don't get at those 2 spots, and Brosseau doesn't really see much playing time as is.

  22. What else would it be based on? April and May rosters were so significantly different from what we have currently that it's honestly just not relevant at all. I pulled up a couple lineups from April last year, both had JBJ leading off and Travis Shaw hitting 3rd. The only guys starting in April that are currently on the team are Yelich, Cain, Narvaez, and Hiura to a degree(Urias, Wong, and Yelich all dealt with injuries in April). 4+ new faces and a lot of new role players. If you really want to get focused on April, if 3 starting position players on about 25 teams in the league get hurt, the offense will suffer. And in September, we had a huge division lead so maybe the players focused a bit more on rest and didn't finish strong. I know we rested starters pretty regularly to get people healed up for the postseason. And for this season, it's been 10 games. I think you and the others criticizing the offense need to relax a bit until we've played more than 10 games...
  23. I generally disagree with this philosophy. This is only ok for extremely borderline pitches. Yes I want that pitch where a sliver of the ball is on the line to be called the same way consistently, and I don't really care which direction it is. If it's a clear strike or ball, it has to be correct. That said, I posted this elsewhere but MLB will be testing automated balls and strikes at every MLB stadium for a small number of games this season. It would seem likely this will be implemented in 2023 barring significant failure. So hopefully these issues will be short lived.
  24. This contingent of people has to be extremely small. Also fun fact, MLB will be beta testing automated balls and strikes at every MLB stadium for a small select number of games this season. I highly suspect this will be implemented in 2023.
  25. It happens so often that journeymen rake in AAA to struggle mightily at MLB. AAA to MLB is without question the most difficult level jump, as much as I love your content with the minor league stuff...I'm not sure any of those AAA guys will solve any problems. I also don't think there's a single above average defender in the bunch you posted about.
