  1. Mccutchen is 1 for 11 against Mahle career, obviously he needs to bat cleanup right?
  2. Yes it is very serious. I've had quite a bit of issues with CC's in game decisions over the last few years. He initially tried doing things a bit more different and a bit more outside the box, but he's back to playing checkers like the old school managers with his bullpen and not giving a guy like Hiura or Taylor enough of a chance to play and improve at the mlb level.
  3. The Reds do have Colin Moran, well known brewer killer
  4. Since Hiura has been good historically against Mahle, take it to the bank that he won't be starting. I hope I'm wrong but I don't have a ton of faith in CC making good managerial decisions.
  5. CHC 1 0-1 CIN 3 3-0 @ATL 3 1-2 @CIN 3 2-1 @MIA 3 2-1 ATL 3 2-1 WSH 3 2-1 @SD 3 1-2 @STL4 1-3 @CHC 2 1-1 Total 15-13
  6. I really have a problem with pitchers using this as an argument to allow for sticky substances. There should be more focus on their part on controlling the baseball and not hitting guys. Their only focus is maximizing the spin/velocity/etc, and then blame the baseball when an errant throw hits somebody. Such a poor argument.
  7. I'm honestly not so sure about him hitting less HR. I was looking at his statcast data from last year and exit velocities on HR this year. Last year Urias hit almost all his HR at least 380 feet, many over 400 feet...and the vast majority were the left/left center and cleared the fence by at least 30 feet. Maybe 2 of his HR last year wouldn't have been HR this year. Beyond the park factors, Urias is going to be a little bit stronger, and hopefully a fair amount better than he was last year. Also remember he started very slow last season. High OBP early but his hits weren't falling in. 10 of his 23 HR came in Aug/Sept. If he's playing at the same level or better than last year, i think low 20s is a fair expectation/hope for Urias.
  8. I do find it a bit weird and inconsistent that Marcell Ozuna can grab his wife by the throat and throw her into a wall, and get "time served" while he's injured anyways and come back the following season, but Bauer gets a 2 year suspension for supposedly consensual albeit freaky and weird conduct. If you delve into the details of the 2 Bauer cases, there were multiple episodes with each individual woman...it's hard to say you didn't want it when you come back freely. That said, it's generally just weird because what he's accused of is so gross and heinous, it in general just feels bad and feels wrong even if there was supposed consent. At the end of the day, I think his suspension has plenty to do with his prior antics as well as his current accusations. Objectively, it was far too harsh in my opinion considering how MLB has handled off field conduct violations...that said, I don't really care and also wouldn't care if he got blackballed after his suspension is over. Sidenote, I'm still not over Marcell Ozuna getting more or less no penalty whatsoever and him currently playing baseball. If there was video, it would be like Ray Rice all over again and the penalty would instantly change. But with no video, fans don't care.
  9. Booooo horrible post, maybe creative a negativity thread for crap like this
  10. I saw Urias hit something like .140 in AA. It might be a minute before he figures the hitting piece out...
  11. I read that too, a 2 inch buffer zone seems ridiculous. So his only missed call was the one that was an MLB leading 6.5 inches off the plate to Segura. I can understand a buffer zone but it should be half an inch at most in my opinion. The plate is 17 inches wide and the umps are getting 2 extra inches or 4 total inches to call a strike. That's just stupid. No wonder guys get rung up so often on pitches off the plate, umps know as long as it's within 2 inches it's better to error on the side of a strike off the plate than a ball on the plate. Also those outs end games faster and get their job done faster. And because of this ridiculous 2 inches of buffer, Angel Hernandez gets a 96% grade from MLB on a game that he clearly called like absolute trash. And everyone sits here wondering why mlb umps never get fired, their grading system has them thinking they are good at what they do even when they actually suck at what they do...
  12. To add to your list, The AL Central teams especially the Guardians/Tigers/White Sox will probably improve in the immediate future moreso than really any NL Central team. They are all built with considerable young talent as well that should improve throughout the year. I think we are one healthy season away from Luis Robert being a better baseball player than Ronald Acuna. The Tigers have 2 potential star prospects at the big league level right now. The Guardians basically have a 26 man roster with 25 young talented players on min contracts...and Jose Ramirez. I don't see similar upside in any NL Central team. That fact further buries the Cubs/Pirates/Reds behind 4 AL Central teams.
  13. I am a little confused, where all the people went that the season was already over 2 weeks ago
  14. I would go as far as to say the pirates and reds are the worst two teams in the NL. So getting to play those two teams 4 or 5 series each is really good for the overall record. The dbacks, Rockies, marlins, etc all have enough going for them to be really pesky to the other contenders, that's aside from the other two divisions each having three true contenders(I think Philly has enough to contend, probably a better team than the Cardinals frankly)
  15. You're oversimplifying this to the point it's a significantly flawed comparison. There's no guarantee Hader's skill as a pitcher didn't increase. You don't know if he would have been more valuable as a traditional closer in 18/19 or as a fireman role in 21. He went from an 80+% fastball pitcher in 18/19 to around 65% in 21. That also doesn't even consider, when Hader isn't pitching...someone else is covering those innings and certainly not at the same caliber that Hader is...
  16. It should be a general consensus agreement about what's best for both the player and team. For example, a starting pitcher obviously isn't going to start pitching 25 innings a week even if asked. A relief pitcher pitching more than 1 inning isn't this unusual phenomenon that never happens. It's actually far more unusual to have pitchers that only pitch 1 inning, never ever any more than that. This situation if true is disappointing for both Hader and the Brewers, and that's as nice as I can be about it.
  17. Yikes, so Yelich can be like "I only bat 3rd in the lineup or I don't play"? or "I don't play sundays"? Players don't get to dictate this stuff. They can have a preference, but at the end of the day...if a situation arises that we reeeally need Josh Hader to get an out or two in the 8th and pitch the 9th...you're really going to tell me that's off the table? If it's not in his contract, it's not off the table. I can't think of any other big name closer that is relegated solely to 1 inning duty. The fact that Counsell and the Brewers don't push back on that request, assuming it's all true, is honestly insane and pathetic.
  18. That's even more embarrassing for Counsell if true, but i just don't buy that. I didn't know baseball players got to pick and choose how they were used while under contract. I think Hader prefers the 1 inning approach, mostly because he wants the saves and saves matter greatly in arbitration and will matter in potential future HOF discussion. That said, relievers don't get to pick and choose like that...that's not how the employee/employer relationship works
  19. You forgot the part where the Brewers tack on 4 runs and Gustave pitches the 9th.
  20. I was a huge fan of Counsell early in his tenure, but lately he's very vanilla in his strategy and is just playing checkers like the other old school managers. I mean, he has a 7th inning guy, 8th inning guy, 9th inning guy...maybe CC and Ned Yost switched bodies or something
  21. I generally don't think CC is giving him much of a chance. He looked like a different player in spring training and then got some playing time but very sporadic and often got pulled early in games he started. I'm generally frustrated with this as Hiura can be an absolute game changer for the offense if he realizes his potential. As far as LH vs RH splits, yes it's completely backwards statistically for Hiura to only start vs RH pitching. Hiura's usage to this point makes me hope he goes back down to AAA for a tune up, it's a disservice to him and the long term future of the team to keep him up here at this point.
  22. He's not, CC is very anti-Hiura and I'm really not sure why...
  23. Despite the 14 pitcher max, i still think we only keep 13 based on roster construction. Brosseau is the obvious guy to go down for Urias, but from there the only position player that would make sense to send down is Hiura. It's possible but I just don't see that happening. I think the most likely candidates in some order to trim from the roster are Milner, Gustave, Urena, Cousins, Hiura, Peterson. Ashby I firmly believe isn't going anywhere. Gott has been probably the most trusted reliever beyond Box/Williams/Hader. Suter is going to stay for length and the whole clubhouse thing. I included Hiura/Peterson above but I really don't think those guys are going anwhere. Most likely are probably Urena and Gustave, I was really hoping Urena would thrive in a bullpen role but thusfar he just hasn't.
  24. I disagree. Peralta hasn't been sharp yet this year, and Quintana has been fairly battered by almost everyone in the lineup today. I'm expecting closer to 12-8 than 3-1. And I doubt Hader is available after 26 pitches something like 12 hours ago and pitching a small amount the prior day. He also generally wasn't sharp yesterday. Probably boxberger or Williams will act closer today if needed.
