  1. Agree. I would be mildly disappointed if it's a Urias/Sogard combo at 3B with them rotating in at SS with Arcia. I am still thinking there's more to come here, though. There's for sure at least 2 more bats added, 3 if Arcia finds his way out the door. We'll have 13 position players this year. See below. OF - 4, Yelich, Cain, Garcia, Gamel IF - 7, Narvaez, Pina, Braun, Hiura, Urias, Arcia, Sogard At least one LH power bat at 3b or 1b...I would actually think 2 LH bats makes the most sense in those spots.
  2. He is the type of hitter that thrived with the juiced ball (Lemaheiu, La Stella, McNeil). A guy that previously hit the ball hard to all fields but didn't have the power to routinely get it over the fence. With the juiced ball, some of those went over the fence and many more of them hit the gap because it's harder to shift with guys hitting the ball hard with the entire field in play. That's all super fair. His contact ability plays up quite a bit with a juiced ball. If it gets tamed back to normal, he's a fine backup at SS/2b for Hiura/Urias and utility guy. I'm not expecting an 825 OPS out of Sogard with 100 starts or anything. It's a solid fringe move in my opinion.
  3. Sogard played a lot of SS and 2b last year I believe. I really like him as a utility option. He actually had some stretches last year that his offense was eye-popping enough that I was starting him on my fantasy baseball team...especially early on.
  4. I took a quick look at his statcast data. He seemed to have gotten pretty unlucky last year. His number indicate a guy hitting closer to 825 ops than 750. That's not good enough at 1b, but if he can improve at 3b defensively in AAA for a couple months...we might have a future 3b for a couple prime years
  5. Good depth move. This years version of spangenberg/sogard/saladino. Hopefully he has a great season in AAA and we never need him at the mlb level. We certainly could do worse for a depth option
  6. Yup. He'll get a lot of run in ST, especially early on. Him, Tyrone Taylor, and Keon Broxton can compete for 6th OF duties.
  7. New York New York makes a point to have at least one $5 blackjack table. Also I believe casino royale always has a $5 craps table. You can imagine those are generally packed though. I was last in vegas in August of 2018, we went to fremont and i actually couldn't find any $5 blackjack tables...at least not in any of the main 4 casinos.
  8. I was going to say, there are just too many players for this to be a real proposal. Stearns hasn't made any deals of this size to date. The Brewers could very quickly solve a lot of problems if we made a move for Smith and Lowrie from the Mets. Trade value site puts their value at a slight positive overall, so throw in a guy around 15 or 20 on our top 30 list probably gets it done. Lowrie if healthy can play some 3b and general utility/PH...Smith platoons at 1b...and we take on about 10m in salary for 2020. That's certainly not so bad. Probably end up using Urias/Arcia/Lowrie at ss/3b
  9. The Reds in my opinion, significantly underperformed last year. I thought they'd be better. And their roster has only gotten better. Their rotation is certainly a top 5 rotation. Their lineup is stacked will probably look something like below, and they have 4 very solid bullpen arms. They are maybe a SS improvement and bullpen arm or two away from being really good...but as it stands now that roster is definitely a contender. Senzel Votto Suarez Moose Aquino Winker Galvis Barnhart
  10. There's certainly something to be said about keeping your star player happy. I'll add that Braun was very uncomfortable in RF when he was asked to move to accommodate Khrush "noodle arm" Davis. It's definitely not as simple as putting a round peg in a round hole. Yelich has played 516 career games in LF (4162 Innings!), including winning a Gold Glove at the position in 2014. Certainly not an exact comparison. Maybe that's exactly what they intend to do. But again, something to be said about keeping your star player happy. Yelich doesn't have a bad arm by any stretch, so it's probably not that significant of an impact on where those 2 guys play. At the end of the day, I think Yelich opts for LF when the time comes.

  12. The Anderson signing bugs me a lot...seeing Miley sign such a reasonable deal bugs me that much more. I'd feel a lot better about our rotation with Miley vs Anderson. That's the part that bugs me. With Anderson, you're hoping guys hit missiles on the ground and right at players, not over the fence. Most AA pitchers have better pure stuff than him. For me, his 2019 was like Garza's first half of 2017. His junk happened to stay inside the park enough to eat some innings and get a respectable ERA...and then variance/luck caught up to him in the 2nd half and he posted something like a double digit ERA and got pulled from the rotation. If the thought by Stearns is something like...we'll bring in Anderson and hopefully he'll actually be a long relief guy because Peralta/Burnes outperform him in ST...it would bug me a lot less. But $5 million is a lot of money for an insurance arm...which makes me think that's not their thought process. It's a bit frustrating to make such a good run 2 years in a row, but simply not have the necessary impact pitching to get over the hump.
  13. 2019 Miley: 19% k rate, 32% hard hit rate, .247 XBA, .304 XWOBA, 4.5 barrel % 2019 Anderson: 12% k rate, 40% hard hit rate, .287 XBA, .344 XWOBA, 7.3 barrel % Me thinks one got really lucky last year, and played in a pitchers park. Miley also clearly has much better stuff.
  14. Is there a snowballs chance in hell that Anderson has a better season than Miley? I am disliking more moves than I am liking this time around. I don't want to derail the thread, but this feels like a true penny pinching offseason.
  15. There’s not much more to add. What free agents are left? I doubt we make a big FA addition, but quite possibly via trade. Could add a SP, RP, 3b, 1b. Could bring in guys like seager or belt and also get a prospect or two for taking some salary. Many options like that available via trade. Also save payroll for deadline moves.
  16. One thing I'll add. I value balance a lot, probably to a fault. I like bringing Garcia in as a RH option versus some other LH option. I fully expect a LH 1b to platoon with Braun, and possibly a LH 3b or even Cabrera who's a switch. We should have enough quality LH and RH hitters to always have a balanced lineup and avoid getting exposed by RH or LH pitching specifically.
  17. From a price point, this deal isn't that much higher than I expected. I was expected something like $6-8 AAV. But everything this offseason has been higher than projected. So $10 is pretty reasonable. I did some looking at his defensive metrics and I really don't think he'll be as bad as many seem to think out there. He has really good speed that probably makes up for some deficiencies. I also suspect he could learn a thing or two from Cain on playing OF that might help. I think a decent homer projection for this guy could be a 280-300 hitter that hits 30-35 bombs in 2020...which is probably an all-star and easy 900 OPS hitter. Reality will probably be a bit less than that, but he should be a very good player for us.
  18. I have it at $96ish including opt outs for Grandal/Moose. I also did NOT factor in Lindblom's incentives, which can apparently make the deal max out over $18 million of the 3 years. I only factored in $3, sounds like could be $3 more per year...at least that's what I would assume.
  19. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/avisail-garcia-541645?stats=career-r-visuals-mlb I don't know how better to post this, but I count 15 batted balls in 2019 that are HR in miller park but were outs/doubles in reality.
  20. How is Bowden consistently the closest on almost everyone this offseason? I thought this guy was a complete clown, is this a blind squirrel finds 100 nuts situation?
  21. I hope he plays himself into a JD Martinez type contract after these 2 years...
  22. What exactly you think they are spending money on? Rotation appears pretty darn set, not like we are going to spend big on the bullpen, bench is pretty full, and the offense will be full outside of 3B. How much will we spend on a 1B that will platoon with Braun and a 3B? I don't see a big FA move at this point...I'll agree, but a trade with us taking on salary is certainly possible...both now and at the deadline.
  23. I hope this deal is backloaded a bit. 8/12 or 7/13. Defer some of that to 2021 when Braun's salary is off the books, and allow us a bit more to spend toward contending this year.
  24. Agreed. I would really hope we didn't pay that price for a 4th OF.
