  1. Miley 100% will get a rotation spot. He's better than at least half our rotation, so I'd like to think we would sign him to a $2-3 million deal if nobody else wants him for some unknown reason. The others probably not. Nelson is a minor league deal candidate probably, though a good one. There's a real chance a bad team would take a chance on him on a major league deal as a bounceback and trade candidate. GG is probably in teh same boat as Nelson, obvoiulsy less upside so less likely to get a major league deal. Chacin is probably a bullpen guy. I'm not sure how much longer he sticks in the majors. We'll see if my opinions are any good...
  2. BB/plate discipline are obviously huge. Elite hand/eye coordination and speed are also huge factors...these guys will tend to have higher avg as well, but simply being able to put a bat on a pitchers pitch and foul it off are huge factors in OBP success. The next pitch might be a meatball, or might be 6 inches off the plate for an easy take ball 4. Being able to foul off good pitches is definitely a skill, I would be shocked if at least some front offices don't have models that factor that in.
  3. I don't think the two are linked. But I've read reports of him being available. Also it's generally similar to them trading Goldschmidt with 1 year left to get some value for a FA to be. Stearns made it sound like he's probably not adding anymore SP, which seems insane to me. I think the only way we win the division is with a Peralta/Burnes/Brown breakout campaign...at least one of those 3 needs to be 1b to Woodruff...and that's not likely.
  4. Is this guy RF only, or could he play some CF or 1b? I feel like I've read he's bad on defense but he's also very fast so maybe he could cover enough ground to play a decent CF?
  5. This is extremely underwhelming. I didn't mind lindblom on the cheap, as I expected we'd use the additional resources to bring in a higher end arm. This rotation looks ugly. Hard to imagine much success here unless Burnes or Peralta step up in a big way
  6. Was scrolling through a Yankees board, a small but significant contingent of them think we should have to send prospects back with Hader just to get Andujar. They might be even more delusional than Cubs fans...Wow
  7. Most of those guys are in A+ or below. You need some serious draft pedigree to get national notoriety in the lower levels regardless of stuff/tools/results. Usually lower draft picks that show improved stuff/tools and/or strong results don't start getting noticed until AA or higher.
  8. I can't find it currently, but I saw posted that the price on Donaldson exceeded the comfort level of the Rangers...and the are out. This is the same team that came in 2nd for Rendon. I'm not sure it's smart to dream on Donaldson, would shock me if we signed this guy.
  9. Have we selected any players in either phase?
  10. Sounds like we just lost Michael Peterson in the minor league phase. Don't think we lost anyone in the major league phase
  11. Thornburg is an excellent candidate for a minor league deal, a very good chance he'd want to come back to somewhere he's previously had success.
  12. Not to go too far off topic, but this has to be addressed. It is pure insanity to view Hiura's bat as a question mark and not include him in any quality hitters group. I agreed with most of the rest of your post, but Hiura's bat is elite and that isn't debatable.
  13. I could see the Mets wanting a bit more. This isn't THAT much salary relief. Maybe they need one more lesser prospect, or maybe slightly less salary relief. I like this trade a lot though.
  14. I'm as big a Hader fan as anyone, but he's also a guy that's primary reason for success is a niche. He fiddles around the top of the zone with his heat...that coupled with delivery deception has lead to a lot of success. Eventually...probably sooner than later...guys are going to adjust to the high fastball being a relatively new thing. If Hader doesn't improve his secondaries before that happens, he immediately turns into a bad pitcher. We all know how unreliable relievers can be year to year. It generally might be prudent to sell high on him before he potentially falls off a cliff, and mitigate the risk. And we aren't going to trade him by shooting for the moon.
  15. There are a couple trade ideas posted on that trade site that could be worth discussion regarding Hader, that have gotten mostly positive feedback. The better one being a 3 team trade involving Dodgers and Tigers has 7 likes and 1 dislike. Brewers get - Boyd, Maeda Dodgers get - Hader, Jimenez(Tigers) Tigers get - Downs(Dodgers), Gray(Dodgers), Santana(Dodgers), Bello(Brewers) This other one has 3 likes and 2 dislikes, but I like this move a bit better personally. Brewers get - Correa, Peacock Astros get - Hader I think the 3 teamer made more sense before we picked up Lindblom. I don't know that we want to bring in 2 starters without flexibility. You could drop Maeda and Jimenez out of that trade and shift the prospect value around a bit to make it work. The Astros trade makes sense because both sides are very familiar with the assets involved, and it fits needs/surplus very well...especially on the Astros side.
  16. A trade was posted in that trade values site that has 11 like and 1 dislike. Brewers get - Lowrie, Smith, 2 million Mets get - Gray Thoughts? I personally like this move, and I could see how you could sell this on the Mets side. Pairing the bad contract with Smith to get rid of most of the salary, and get a recent high draft pick with very high ceiling in return.
  17. Worth noting, when you compare the Cubs 2016 trade...they dumped all that for 2 months of Chapman. Anyone trading for Hader gets him for 4 years. So it's not like trading for a reliever giving you 1 shot at getting over the hump and to a WS title...it's actually 4 shots. It's very clearly different than 2016 Cubs.
  18. Yes. Lindor is all-world everything at the SS position. He's the best one at hitting and 2nd to Simmons in the field. He even switch hits. And again, the Dodgers can afford to trade premium prospects for super-elite talent. Their second to none talent development team will churn out 2 or 3 more guys like Lux over the next 24 months.
  19. There are way more corner OF options(trade and FA) than landing spots...it's not even close. We might have to be patient to get a good value, but we definitely shouldn't be spending big for this spot.
  20. I wonder how much longer until guys make an adjustment and start learning to hit high fastballs better. The most successful pitchers in MLB are throwing high fastballs early and often...and racking up the strikeouts. It's to the point guys should know it's coming. It seems easy enough to shorten up and have a bit of a tomahawk type swing to spray those pitches up the middle, but that also doesn't fit into the "all power all the time" mantra of current mlb hitters...so who knows if that happens. Probably around the same time LH pull hitters learn to spray grounders at 3b.
  21. Oh man, yeah I can live without making this deal. Way way way too risky for a guy that's shown promise but never had extended stretches of even being solid.
  22. The Giants are the perfect team to make moves like this. Obviously not contending, at least not this year...and they are a big market so they can afford to take on payroll to acquire prospects.
  23. Phillies making moves. Wonder if this makes Segura available...
  24. 1 year deal, curious on the dollars. I would bet the Giants will give him a chance to start, at least initially.
