  1. Mayo's newest Mock Draft is below. https://www.mlb.com/news/high-school-pitchers-rise-in-mlb-mock-draft/c-277173920?tid=151437456 Has the Brewers taking Parker Meadows, OF, Grayson (Ga.) HS. Also had Schnell going 26th with the following note... 25. D-backs: Nick Schnell, OF, Roncalli HS (Ind.) Schnell has some serious helium, with teams pouring into Indianapolis over the past few days. His name has been coming up all over the first round, and the D-backs were in heavy to see him recently. You may once again nail a Brewers pick.
  2. My bad. They said it was "new" when they tweeted it out. Thanks!
  3. Two New Mocks Out this Morning. Fangraphs 21. Milwaukee Brewers – Connor Scott, CF, Plant HS (FL) The Brewers have been tied to a wide swath of players this spring and typically play value rather than specific demographics with high picks. They’re near the top of a run of prep bats at this point. They’ve been tied to a few names, but Scott is probably the best on the board here. https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2018-mlb-mock-draft-v-2-0/ Baseball America at the link below. Pay walled but if someone wants to pass along the name at least that would be nice. https://www.baseballamerica.com/rankings/mlb-mock-draft/
  4. Anderson was scratched from his start with an illness, moving Suter up a day. They needed the length. Had to be a good reason, and there was. I’m sure Barnes is back ASAP.
  5. Callis released his first mock draft today. Link below. Has Brewers taking Trevor Larnach, OF, Oregon State https://www.mlb.com/news/college-players-lead-in-mlb-mock-draft/c-276190214?tid=151437456

  7. Haven't seen any information lately. Do we know when he is supposed to return from the DL? Or, how long he will be out for?
  8. https://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=15176 Has the Brewers taking Logan Gilbert
  9. FYI Joe 2:17 What are your thoughts on Brewer pitcher Zack Brown? Eric A Longenhagen 2:17 Reliever, but it's three pitches (93-96, 6 breaking ball, 5 change) so he might be a really good one.

  11. MLB Pipeline released their top 30 international prospects today. Brewers are the favorites to sign three listed below. Eduarqi Fernandez | Rank: 18 Hometown: Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic Position: OF Age: 16 DOB: 11/20/2001 Bats: R Throws: R Height: 6'2" Weight: 176 lb.Watch Scouting grades: Hit: 50 | Power: 50 | Run: 55 | Arm: 55 | Field: 55 Fernandez profiles as a center fielder, and the belief is that he has the tools to keep him there. He's already a good runner -- he's consistently clocked in the 6.4- to 6.5-second range in the 60-yard run -- and he's expected to add strength to an already strong arm. He's displayed good instincts in the outfield and has impressed evaluators with his routes. Fernandez is an aggressive hitter with some pop and he drives the ball to all fields. The ball jumps off of his bat now, and he is expected to have even more power in the future. Fernandez still could end up in one of the corner outfield positions because of his size and overall skill set. The teenager is confident in his tools and scouts like his makeup. He has been compared to a young version of former big leaguer Alex Rios. Fernandez is from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and trains with Jaime Ramos. The Brewers are the favorite to sign him. Eduardo Garcia | Rank: 20 Hometown: Barquisimeto, Venezuela Position: SS Age: 15 DOB: 07/10/2002 Bats: R Throws: R Height: 6'2" Weight: 160 lb.Watch Scouting grades: Hit: 50 | Power: 45 | Run: 45 | Arm: 55 | Field: 55 One of the youngest players in this year's class, Garcia has a good frame and exhibits lots of growth potential. The teenager is already considered one of the premier defenders on the market, and those tools are projected to improve as Garcia matures and his body develops. He'll also eventually be an average runner. At the plate, Garcia is not considered a "big power guy," but the belief is that he will build on his doubles and gap power. Scouts also like his hitting mechanics -- the way his hands and lower half work in during his swing -- and his approach at the plate. There's a belief that Garcia will hit 10-12 home runs in the big leagues one day, but it will be his glove more than his bat that will propel him through the Minor Leagues and make him an everyday player. There's a chance he could also develop into an average run producer. Garcia -- who participated in the MLB prospect showcases in Cartagena, Colombia, and Santo Domingo -- is from Barquisimeto, Venezuela, and is trained by Jose Luis Montero. The Brewers are the favorite to sign him. Branlyn Jaraba | Rank: 26 Hometown: Cartagena, Colombia Position: SS Age: 16 DOB: 3/20/2002 Bats: R Throws: R Height: 6'2" Weight: 196 lb.Watch Scouting grades: Hit: 50 | Power: 55 | Run: 45 | Arm: 50 | Field: 50 Colombia is emerging as a market for international prospects, and Jaraba has positioned himself as the top young player from the country in this year's class. The young infielder has a chance to be special and here are a few reasons why: Jaraba is a big bodied athlete with a plus bat, plus power and plus arm potential. He's a decent shortstop now and projects to be an above-average defender at third base, the position many scouts believe he will play as he grows and his body matures. Overall, evaluators like his hands and defensive actions. There's still room for improvement in terms of body control and footwork, but that's not uncommon for infielders his age. At the plate, he has already shown good strength and has a chance to develop more power as he grows. The tools are there and he's expected to hone his overall game once he signs with a club and enters its academy. Jaraba is from Cartagena, Colombia, and trains with former big league infielder Orlando Cabrera. The Brewers are the favorite to sign him.

  17. Notes for BA's Review of the 2017 Signing Class for the Brewers. Posting since its free. Link also below. https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/international-reviews-milwaukee-brewers-2017/ Total 2017 Signings: 38. Top 2017-18 signing: OF Larry Ernesto, Dominican Republic, $1.7 million. Milwaukee’s biggest bonus last year went to Larry Ernesto, an athletic outfielder from the Dominican Republic who signed for $1.7 million on July 2. Ernesto stood out for an exciting blend of athleticism, speed and a lean, sleek frame (6-foot-2, 175 pounds) with high physical upside. As an amateur, Ernesto showed 70 speed in the 60-yard dash, running it as fast as 6.4 seconds. Ernesto is an explosive athlete, though many clubs considered his baseball skills to still be raw for a 17-year-old. The Brewers saw a player who took quality at-bats and a knack for barreling the ball in games, but other clubs felt Ernesto lacked natural rhythm and timing at the plate, leading to a higher swing-and-miss rate. He had trouble keeping his head locked in during his swing, leading to struggles with pitch recognition and strike-zone discipline with both fastballs and breaking pitches. Ernesto is a switch-hitter who’s more advanced from the left side, with solid raw power for his age. Ernesto moves well in a straight line but not as well laterally, and his reads, routes and overall outfield instincts are still rudimentary. The Brewers were pleased with the progress he has made defensively since signing, though other clubs saw risk he could end up in a corner, possibly left field with a below-average arm. Ernesto trained with Niche. Venezuelan outfielder Carlos Rodriguez signed for $1.355 million, and several scouts preferred him to Ernesto. Rodriguez (5-foot-10, 155 pounds) can’t match Ernesto’s size and athleticism, but he was one of the top hitters and most polished all-around players in the 2017 class. Rodriguez, a 17-year-old represented by Felix Olivo, has a strong track record of hitting well in games as an amateur. Even though he loads his hands deep, to the point of barring his arm, Rodriguez demonstrated excellent bat control, putting the ball in play at a high rate with a slight uppercut and hitting line drives to all fields. With a solid grasp of the strike zone, Rodriguez’s offensive game will center around his ability to get on base. He has a slender build that lacks strength, so it’s unlikely he ever grows into much power. Rodriguez is an average runner who some scouts think could get faster once he gains strength. While Rodriguez’s present speed isn’t ideal for center field, he earns high marks for his defensive instincts. He looks natural in the outfield, where he reads the ball well off the bat, takes clean routes and doesn’t make many mistakes. His arm is below-average. Both Rodriguez and Ernesto are scheduled to debut in the Dominican Summer League. Dominican outfielder Jeicor Cristian, 16, signed with the Brewers for $340,000 on July 2 after training with Fifo and Jaime Ramos. Cristian’s tall, lean frame (6-foot-3, 170 pounds) screams projection. Cristian has a lot of physical upside and should grow into significant lefthanded power, though his feel for hitting is still crude. An average runner, Cristian could rotate around all three outfield spots early in his career, but he’s probably best suited for a corner. Venezuelan catcher Andres Melendez, 17, signed with the Brewers for $325,000 on July 2. Melendez was advanced enough that the Brewers brought him to Arizona for instructional league last fall, where he made a strong impression for his catch-and-throw skills, arm strength and especially his athleticism behind the plate. While Melendez’s defense is what stood out as an amateur, he has shown promising early signs from the right side of the plate as well, putting the ball in play at a high clip with line drives to all fields. He trained with Yerson Arguirre. Francis Casado, a 17-year-old Dominican outfielder, signed for $300,000 on July 2. He has some similarities to Cristian, with a lot of physical projection to add strength to his 6-foot-1, 180-pound frame. The ball jumps off his bat well now from the right side in BP and he has a chance to hit for power, although he will need to improve his strike-zone discipline and contact skills to get to his power in games. He’s an average runner who is athletic enough to have a chance to stay in center field. The Brewers signed Venezuelan shortstop Daniel Castillo, a 17-year-old who trained with Carlos Guillen, for $140,000 on July 2. An instinctive player, Castillo is 5-foot-11, 155 pounds and projects as a true shortstop. He’s an average runner with good actions, soft hands and good range to both sides. Castillo has a strong arm and the ability to make sharp throws from different angles, with a knack for being in the right place at the right time. At the plate, Castillo doesn’t have much power right now, but he’s a switch-hitter who can spray the ball to all fields. Another Venezuelan catcher, Jesus Chirinos, signed with the Brewers for $130,000 at the end of July shortly after his 16th birthday. He’s a bulky 6 feet, 195 pounds and had been training as an outfielder but moved behind the plate just before signing. Chirinos still has a lot to learn behind the plate, but he’s athletic for his size with a solid-average arm. He has shown a solid bat and power potential for a catcher his age. Chirinos trained with Douglas Aguiar and Jesus Barbosa. Toward the end of the 2016-17 signing period in May, the Brewers also gave $800,000 to Cuban first baseman Ernesto Martinez, who hit .232/.383/.368 with three home runs, 36 walks and 50 strikeouts in 196 plate appearances in the DSL. Martinez, 18, is an enormous lefty at 6-foot-6, 230 pounds with above-average power, but his swing is long, which leads to a lot of holes. He’s remarkably flexible for a big man and he does have a strong arm. He has a pitching background as well, having run his fastball up to 92 mph, and some scouts preferred him on the mound, which could be a fallback option for him down the road.
  18. McDowell has thrown out 4 runners trying to steal and picked off a runner at first... it's the 5th inning.
  19. Here are the six Brewers listed along with his/some relevant notes. 32) Keston Hiura, 2B, Brewers, Grade B+/A- Hiura is highly respected among analysts and scouts but seems to get less attention than he deserves from the prospect press in general. 63) Corbin Burnes, RHP, Brewers, Grade B+ Burnes, Adams, and Mahle are the types of pitchers I tend to like a lot and rate aggressively. Sometimes it works out, sometimes not. 109) Brandon Woodruff, RHP, Brewers, Grade B One spot above Monte Harrison 138) Luis Ortiz, RHP, Brewers, Grade B 165) Freddy Peralta, RHP, Brewers, Grade B Watch to see if Peralta can lower walks while keeping strikeouts. 171) Brett Phillips, OF, Brewers, Grade B/B-
  20. Looks like BBA opened up these articles as free on their website this morning. Eduarqui Fernandez, Dominican Republic Size: 6-2, 176, R-R Trainer: Jaime Ramos 60 yards: 6.75 seconds Games: 1-for-5, BB, 2 SO Fernandez has a lean, projectable build and demonstrated a well-rounded skill set at the MLB international showcase. He showed the speed for center field along with a strong arm, and while he did drop one fly ball, he ran good routes with quick breaks off the bat. While several hitters took uneven BPs, Fernandez stood out for his ability to make consistent hard contact during his rounds. The Brewers are the frontrunners for Fernandez, who is expected to sign for just north of $1 million. Fernando Villalobos, Mexico Size: 6-0, 193, L-R Trainer: Mexico City Red Devils 60 yards: 6.96 seconds Games: 1-for-5, BB, SO The only Mexican prospect at the showcase, Villalobos showed good hitters’ actions from the left side. Villalobos, 15, has a short, sweet swing that stays on plane through the hitting zone for a long time and made hard contact in BP. Villalobos runs well for a catcher, with near average speed underway. A former pitcher and third baseman, Villalobos did have difficulty with receiving at times—especially when hard-throwing but erratic righthander Starlyn Castillo was on the mound—but he did make some nice stops on balls in the dirt. The Brewers are connected to Villalobos. Branlyn Jaraba, Colombia Vitals: 6-2, 196, R-R Trainer: Orlando Cabrera 60 yards: 7.07 seconds Games: 1-for-4, 2 BB, 2 SO Jaraba, a 15-year-old third baseman, is expected to be the top-paid player this year from Colombia, with the Brewers tied to him. While several hitters had uneven BPs, Jaraba stood out more than most. He made loud contact, using his strength to drive the ball well from center field over to his pull side. In games, Jaraba showed a mature hitting approach, mostly staying within the strike zone without much swing-and-miss, and he narrowly missed a double on a line drive roped down the left field line that went foul by two feet. Jaraba has to work at his defense to stay at third base, but he was one of the more interesting offensive players at the showcase. Eduardo Garcia, Venezuela Vitals: 6-2, 156, R-R Trainer: Jose Montero 60 yards: 7.08 seconds Games: 0-for-6, 3 SO Garcia doesn’t have a tool that sticks out right now, but that could change once he gets stronger. Eligible to sign when he turns 16 on July 10, Garcia is one of the youngest players in the class and has a lot of space to fill out a projectable frame with a thin lower half and stick in the middle of the infield. The Brewers are likely to sign Garcia.
  21. More confirmation 12:43 Joe: Are the Brewers linked to any top July 2 guys? 12:45 Kiley McDaniel: A number of them, actually. I think I have them with 5 guys so far. Eduardo Garcia SS VZ is really young and I liked him at the MLB showcase, Branlyn Jaraba is 3B from Colombia that I liked a good bit as well
