    I made the comment during the game that a 7 inning start from the best starters occasionally would help reduce the load on the bullpen. After the response that 7 inning starts don’t happen that often any more, I found something from earlier this season that 12% of all starts were 7 innings or more. My guess would be that the “elite” starters would account for a high percentage of that 12%. Burnes has had 4 starts of 7+ innings, but Peralta has had none. His inefficiency is one of the things that keeps him from being elite. Maybe Woodruff can get built up and be defective enough to help with this down the road.

    The double whammy is that now they go to the Pirates series with the bullpen short tomorrow after heavy use the last two days.

    Anderson is generally good but we can’t forget the bad throw he made that contributed to a bad loss against the Cubs. No guarantee he doesn’t do the same thing today.

    The danger of needing 5 relievers to all be perfect to pull out a 2-1 win.

    With Levering’s comment about Wiemer I had a Ted Lasso flash: ”He’s here, he’s there, he’s every f****** where…Joey Wiemer”.

    The Brewers could use some robot hitters who recognize the strike zone.

    I was thinking that REALLY good baserunnjng would have been to break to third when the SS let the throw go to first. With the throw coming from deep in the hole he likely could have made it to third before the first baseman could field the throw and send a return throw back to third. That would have earned extra credit.

    Not saying I expect it every time, but when almost every game is close and there are no off days in the near future it can be a big help to do,it once in a while. With Miley only going 4 today it’s going to take 4 or 5 relievers to get a win today. Even one more inning from Peralta last night would have helped a little.

    Still have to deal with the transition as Miley and Woodruff work their way back in. The bullpen is going to be busy, especially if Burnes and Peralta can’t go past the 6th inning.

    At least until the Cubs knocked him out of the game in the fourth inning on Monday. And they did it in their first try.

    Or in a tiebreaker situation. I think it’s most common in the NFL where the tiebreaker procedures can be so convoluted. A team could be behind one team in the standings and out of the playoffs in one of those “If the season ended today” presentations. But, if the trailing team has a game remaining against a team with a better record, and would hold the tiebreaker over them, they could still “control their own destiny”. We could hear it this year with the Brewers and Reds or other teams, but probably not until much later in the season, like the final week.

    That’s it. in my experience the phrase isn’t used in baseball (or really any sport) until later in the season when winning out is realistically possible.

    I have literally only heard the phrase “control your own destiny” in sports to mean that a team can accomplish something by winning its own games regardless of the results of any other games.

    The Cubs apparently didn’t find him to be as mystifying as the Brewers did as they scored 9 total runs against him in 4 starts.

    So, all they have to do is win out.

    I actually did go to a Brewers-Cubs game at Wrigley a few years ago and I wasn’t that amused by the guy next to me who thought it was OK to reach over me and my daughter to high five the Cubs fans on the other side of us whenever the Cubs did anything.

    Just go to a Cubs-Brewers game at AFF and you might change your mind. Be sure to sit directly in front of Cubs fans.

    I have been wondering how long Frelick is going to last the way he charges around and leaps wildly into walls and other fielders.

    The hits have been cheap, but Peralta is digging himself into a hole with walks and piling up,the pitches to ensure a short start. The offense has a big hole to climb out of now.

    Frelick seems to have decided that his approach is going to be to swing as hard as he can at anything inside.

    Peralta might have to be perfect tonight to keep the Brewers in the game. Gray can be tough.
