I think it’s most common in the NFL where the tiebreaker procedures can be so convoluted. A team could be behind one team in the standings and out of the playoffs in one of those “If the season ended today” presentations. But, if the trailing team has a game remaining against a team with a better record, and would hold the tiebreaker over them, they could still “control their own destiny”.
We could hear it this year with the Brewers and Reds or other teams, but probably not until much later in the season, like the final week.
