By the same token, if the focus is the Dodgers, the Brewers would have to fend off the Padres and DBacks too. They currently lead the Padres by 1.5 games and the DBacks by 2.5. Those 2 teams have been by far the best in the NL since the beginning of June. The Padres hold the tiebreaker over the Brewers, having won the season series 5-2
I look at the chase for the bye as two separate races. One is against the Phillies and the other is against the 3 NL West teams. The Brewers have to win at least one of them.
If you’re looking ahead, the last couple weeks of the season could be interesting. In their last 16;games the Brewers play all 7 of their games against the DBacks, 3 against the Phillies, and 3 against the Mets, who are also fighting for a wild card spot.
