  1. You mean they’re allowed to use the same pitcher for 7 innings?
  2. Probably not because he didn’t also leave a couple other of the top hitters out of the lineup at the same time. If you think for one second that Phillies fans as a group are more rational than Brewers fans, that’s proof that you never lived in that area.
  3. They also held the Phillies to 4 runs, all of which were unearned because of misplays on bunts,.
  4. The Phillies have won something like 20 of their last 24 home games, so there’s no question it’s going to be a tough series, especially facing some of the Phils’ top starters. But the Phillies are missing two top starters (Turner and Marsh) and the Cardinals showed last night that they aren’t unbeatable. One game at a time.
  5. I doubt if the Phillies would tinker with their highly successful batting order much just because of facing a lefty opener and knowing that the next pitcher will be a righty. Having 4 of their first 5 as lefties is not their normal lineup when Realmuto is catching. With Turner still on the IL he has been hitting second between Schwarber and Harper with Bohm fourth. Marsh has often been 5th against RHP but I will be surprised if he isn’t placed on the IL today after how he looked after apparently pulling a hamstring last night. Castellanos would probably be moved to fifth against a LH starter; they have done that even with Marsh in. The advantage to be gained with a LH opener seems to be limited to getting a LH facing Schwarber and Harper in the first inning. It still might be worth it, though it does reduce the options for later in the game.
  6. The counterpoint is that swinging away increases the possibility of a hit that would drive in a run and move the other runner into scoring position without spending an out. Hitting with the infield drawn in significantly increases the probability of a hitter getting a hit, either by hitting one through the infield or blooping one over it. I’m in the camp that considers outs a very valuable commodity and I hate giving them away.
  7. There’s room for differences of opinion, but I think bunting there was a bad idea for this reason. Frelick should not be, and usually isn’t a real free swinger. With the infield drawn way in, I think a hitter like him should be thinking about hitting one past the drawn in infield or popping one over it. Against a lefty he should be thinking about going to left field. With the infield in a bunt has to be pretty good to get the runner in unless you go all out suicide squeeze, which I wouldn’t want in that situation either.
  8. Terrible idea to bunt and a terrible bunt.
  9. Trying to squeeze another inning out of Herget may prove fatal.
  10. Should have been more concerned with Peralta than the lineup.
  11. Should have been more concerned with Peralta than the lineup.
  12. My tongue in cheek lineup wasn’t far off. I should ask for my money back. If I wanted to see a minor league game I could drive to Appleton.
  13. Understand that that lineup is a tongue in cheek parody of the Sunday lineup.
  14. I was thinking about this too. As a holder of a weekend 10 pack for the last 18 seasons, we are often treated to some vintage "Sunday lineups". Today is one of our games, so I was thinking about some of the moves Murphy might make. 1. Sit Hoskins because he has played 2 days after coming off the IL. Bauers starts at 1B and bats 4th or 5th depending on who else is sitting. I think this move is likely. Hoskins definitely wants to play in Philly. 2. Sit old man Yelich to rest his back. He has played several days in a row now and they want him ready for the Phillies. Maybe not likely but wouldn't surprise me. 3. Play Dunn at 3B to give Ortiz a rest he shouldn't need and Dunn a chance to play he hasn't earned. Sadly, I think this is at least 50-50. 4. Find a way to get Monasterio in the lineup. Maybe Turang or Adames "needs" a rest. shouldn't happen, but again I wouldn't be shocked. 5. Give Contreras his first full day off this season. This one actually might make sense but I don't think Contreras would go for it. Expect him at DH with Sanchez catching. Imagine this lineup: Turang SS Contreras DH Bauers 1B Sanchez C Perkins CF Chourio LF Dunn 3B Monasterio 2B Frelick RF This would give all of the old timers a rest, get the reserves some AB's, and maintain the integrity of the left-right lineup. If you expect this, it's likely that the actual lineup will look batter.
  15. Suzuki then hit a grand slam in the bottom half of the inning and the Cubs went on to win 7-5.
  16. Good to pull out the win today. We’re going to the game tomorrow and with the series won I’m expecting a vintage Sunday lineup with Bauers, Dunn, and Monasterio all playing.
  17. This could be trouble. Kopech will, probably be back for another inning.
  18. Frelick took hitting lessons from Dunn today.
  19. That has happened to me occasionally. If I go back to the scores there is usually a note about refreshing in the middle of the screen, somewhat obscured by the scores. If I just close and reopen the app that usually takes care of it.
  20. Crochet has 55 pitches through 3 innings. Maybe they can get him out after 5. Gasser has been giving up some, pretty hard contact today.
  21. Who pointed out yesterday how bad Benintendi has been?
  22. That ball Yelich hit almost looked foul. Like it came around the foul side of the bag and just touched the outside of the line behind the bag. That’s almost impossible to do
