  1. I know it is just High-A, but I am beginning to get alternate site-level excited about Antoine Kelly again.
  2. This really is one of those rare trades where everyone involved on both sides has exceeded expectations from when the trade was made. Usually there is at least one disappointment.
  3. Puello just needs to keep the ball in the ballpark. His walk rate is fine, K rate is really good, WHIP is improving. but the home run per game is just killing his performance.
  4. Anybody else feel like the pitching portion of the Wisconsin box score is a preview of one we'll see in Biloxi in July?
  5. Other than a couple of relievers (once the first two transactions today were announced, I kept waiting for one saying Vassalotti was heading to Wisconsin), and maybe one starter sequence, I think barring injuries the promotions come closer to midseason. The top candidates left seem to either be blocked (Reetz, all the second basemen) or have something to work on (strikeouts with Wiemer, controlling the running game with Miller).
  6. It also can’t be understated how bad offense has been across baseball this year. Only the Rockies I believe had a .260 average or .750 OPS. The Brewers might seem worse relatively than they are using the eye test because the norm we are comparing them against isn’t the norm anymore. I mean the Brewers had the top ISO in the league coming into tonight, and you wouldn’t confuse their lineup with Murderer’s Row.
  7. It is kind of absurd the amount of production the system has gotten from the second base spot, with Mathias, Valerio, Black and Raabe.
  8. He's at least getting closer (1.06 WHIP so far in May). The chances of salvaging his season stats are slim but if he can keep improving it won't matter. Wonder if Shane Smith is close to returning. He seemed to have a similar profile when the two were signed as UDFA.
  9. Nice to see Small settle in. Those walks have been the only real flaw to his season so far.
  10. Really good to hear. That Carolina pitching staff is very young and probably going to get even younger given I'm guessing Jordan probably gets promoted before too long as well simply because there are a few Wisconsin starters banging the door down for a promotion.
  11. I'm not going to check the first week box scores, but this feels like the first time Joe Gray and Zavier Warren have both ended a game with an OPS above .700 all season. Those two staying hot would really help both the Rattler offense and the system strength. Also, kudos to Cam Robinson for shutting things down tonight, He was one of the few who didn't have a great series the last time these two teams played, but he came through in a big way tonight.
  12. There's a good chance he takes the loss, but good to see Israel Puello have a solid outing.
  13. Who had Tristen Peters in the top 10 in the Midwest League in OPS at this point in their projections? .300/.400/.500 definitely plays.
  14. Good to see with Devanney. He kind of got hung out to dry last year, skipping two levels because of the roster situation (and a bit his age). If Kelly can build off this, it would be huge. This is the kind of outing I was expecting pre-injury when he was getting all the alternative site hype.
  15. A little late, but thanks for putting this together. It is always interesting. Hopefully by midseason a few of the guys who started slow will have rebounded.
  16. I guess you could refer to it as clickbait, but in most cases it is the most benign form. Most aren't stirring up controversy for the sake of page views, it is simply a method of immediately analyzing the draft from their point of view in a form that people seem to like to read and spurs discussion. You get a few who are over the top or who seem to believe their views are infallible, but for the most part, these are people paid to analyze and write about the NFL analyzing and writing about the NFL, albeit in a contrived package, but no moreso than the predraft mocks that everyone does. Of course they shouldn't be treated as gospel, and how a team did in the draft won't be known for years. Outside of those who slap on a grade with an unfunny bit of sarcasm attached and nothing else, however, they provide another perspective that, if it is done well, can at least be an interesting read.
  17. Great to see the organization has this kind of confidence in Chourio. There were other options if they didn't think he was ready, and there was no reason to push him if he wasn't.
  18. If I am leaning into an alternative explanation for the length of the suspension I might look more toward the Dodgers having no intention of ever bringing him back (and thus perhaps pushing for the longest penalty possible) than Bauer’s past antagonism toward baseball leadership.
  19. Didn’t get a chance to watch today’s game, but the way these two teams play defense, I am guessing this won’t be the last “first team to 100 wins” game.
  20. I think other people might have said something similar, but this felt a lot like a Ted Thompson draft from when he was at his best. Pass rusher (interior in this case) in the first round? Check. Second round receiver? Check. A couple of college tackles who are athletic but might have to kick inside in the NFL? Check. A day 3 flyer or two at receiver? Check. This whole draft feels familiar in the best of possible ways. The first rounders addressed two of the weaker starting positions on the defensive side of the ball. The rest of the draft filled in the two areas where depth was lacking on offense: receiver and offensive line. There are still some question marks (top-end pass catching talent, at least for this season, and depth on the edge and the secondary), but this feels like a draft that should help both now and in the future.
  21. Given the names we've drafted, kind of surprised that Christian Matthew didn't end up a Packer
  22. I was thinking either guys with kick coverage skills or double up on CB/S prospects and hope you hit on one
  23. It was their second, but I'm going to count it.
  24. If they view Tom as having any guard or tackle versatility, the backup center spot isn't exactly locked down right now unless Hanson made a big leap during the season.
  25. I'm probably just reading a couple that are higher on him, but I get vague Cobb vibes off Shakir's scouting report.
