  1. That HBP to Weeks gives him 52 in his career, 3rd most of all Brewers batters.
  2. Stars lose 7-5. Mike Jones gives up 3 solo HRs in 3 innings; Gamel 2-4, HR, BB, 2 RBI; LaPorta 0-5; Parejo 2-2, BB, RBI; Escobar 2-5, RBI.
  3. From mlb.com: "Playing as visitors in NL parks under house rules, AL pitchers -- you know, the guys not trusted with using a bat most of the season -- went 10-for 47. NL pitchers went 2-for-37. ... AL designated hitters also took their inexperienced NL counterparts to school, going 17-for-62 to their 12-for-63." Funny, the AL pitchers ended up with a bigger advantage than the AL DHs. A step further, here's the OPS breakdown: AL DH .948 NL DH .508 AL P .498 NL P .179 Big differences, and the end result is that the AL wins 3 games more than the NL.
  4. I am also on the Branyanwagon. Especially after the Gwynn DH experiment- embarrassing is a good word for that. I still have this feeling that if we brought up Branyan, all of the other MLB teams would laugh and call the Brewers desperate.... but management should be willing to step out on a limb. Everyone was probably laughing at the Gwynn DH too. With Branyan at least we would have a chance to have the last laugh...
  5. So the Cardinals put Isringhausen on the DL for a cut on his hand. Seriously, you have to wonder about this. Someone took a table knife, scratched his hand just enough for some blood to show up, and good! we can give him a little break, then send him to the minors on a nice long rehab assignment to work on his stuff without hurting the team!
  6. Nice double play. That has kept us in the game (or at least from getting blown out).
  7. Wow this time it's single double to start the inning, and nothing. Frustrating.
  8. Wrong timing. Not with a runner in scoring position and the bottom of the order coming up.
  9. We've had the leadoff hitter on in all 3 innings so far. Nothing to show for it. And maybe McCarver is repeating himself too much, but can you blame him? That bunt was really stupid. Isn't the reason Hart is batting 5th is so he can drive in some runs?
  10. Bunt from the #5 hitter like they're playing for 1 run? Nonsense in my opinion.
  11. Boston is already scheduled to play on Monday.
  12. Cameron is 1 for 17 in his career against Billingsley, with 8 strikeouts. Maybe that has something to do with his needing a day off.
  13. Has Martin ever played 3B in a game before? Actually this is his 5th game there and 3rd start. All this season. I knew that he had filled in there once at the end of a game, but didn't think he had started there before.
  14. Wow Russell Marting playing 3B today with DeWitt scratched last minute.
  15. Being at different stages of their careers, you won't be able to compare their contracts.
  16. Today's dumb stat comes to you courtesy of the Journal-Sentinel. They posted that when Ryan Braun hit his 40th career HR on Sunday, he was the fastest to 40. When you count in days, he did it quicker than Mark McGwire by 2 days. I say who cares. If you count by games, it took Braun 149 games to get to 40 HR, but McGwire did it in only 110 games. Fastest to 40? You tell me.
  17. Callix Crabbe has indeed been DFA by San Diego. Lots of Padres changes lately: Joe Thatcher optioned and Glendon Rusch outrighted. DL News: Gary Glover (TB) and David Weathers (Cin) back on the active roster, Johnny Estrada (Wash) back on the DL. Raul Casanova DFA by the Mets. Also, Jose Capellan refused his outright assignment by Colorado and is now a free agent.
  18. On Fridays at home, they were 5-8 both in 2006 and 2007. This year so far, the record is 1-1. Edit: I just remembered, in 2006 didn't they wear the retros on Sundays at home? That record is 6-7.
  19. Bill Hall is on pace for a career high 170 strikeouts. He has recently moved up to 9th on the Brewer career list, even though he ranks only 24th in plate appearances. At least his strikeout rate still ranks behind great strikeout kings such as Rob Deer, Jose Hernandez, and Gorman Thomas; as well as our favorite announcer Bill Schroeder.
  20. Hardy hitting 5th? Seems an odd place for him.
  21. This from Jim Molony's Inside Pitch column on mlb.com today: • The recall of catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia from Triple-A Oklahoma two weeks ago has some teams convinced Texas will try to move Gerald Laird before the trade deadline. The 28-year-old Laird, who is making $1.6 million this year, is hitting .266 with three homers and 13 RBIs. He could draw interest from teams looking to add depth at the position, such as the Yankees, Tigers or Brewers.
  22. Sorry but what's GPA in this context?
  23. Sorry but what's GPA in this context?
  24. A somewhat unusual night game on getaway day.
  25. Carlos Gomez of the Twins hits for the cycle against the White Sox. It is the first cycle since June of 2007 (Aubrey Huff). It's the first Twins' cycle since Kirby Puckett in 1986. 68 players had hit for the cycle since then. Remember the last Brewer cycle, Chad Moeller?
