  1. Ok this is ridiculous. That's the 2nd unbelievably bad call.
  2. Ok there's my McClung answer.
  3. What happened to McClung warming up? Nothing against Dillard but I'd feel better giving McClung a try.
  4. that was a horrible call- can't a base umpire overrule that?
  5. Kevin Mench was sent back to AAA Syracuse. His OPS was .670 and has not hit a HR in 112 PAs with Toronto this season. Geoff Jenkins went on the DL. It is too bad that he has only managed a .698 OPS in 313 ABs with Philadelphia this season. Scott Podsednik is back after 3 weeks on the DL. Another very mediocre season at .664 OPS in 161 PAs. Robinson Cancel was sent back to AAA New Orleans. He only has 31 PAs with the Mets this season. Dana Eveland is back with the A's after 3 starts at AAA Sacremento. He went 3-0, pitching 21 innings, with 6 ER and 21 strikeouts. Al Reyes was signed to a minor-league contract by the Mets after refusing an outright assignment by the Rays. He had a 4.37 ERA and 1.37 WHIP in 22+ innings with Tampa Bay this season and saved 26 games in 2007 but after some injury problems, apparently there was no room for him in the bullpen. Richie Sexson was released by the Yankees. His .764 OPS over 35 PAs with NY was a major improvement over his .696 OPS over 292 PAs with Seattle, but must not have been what they were hoping for. Zach Jackson has been called up to the Indians and joined the starting rotation. In 3 starts so far, he has no decisions in 18+ innings with a 4.91 ERA and 1.31 WHIP. Carlos Lee was having his best season yet with a .937 OPS through 115 games when he went on the DL with a season-ending finger injury. 35-year-old Valerio de los Santos only lasted 2 starts in his first major league action since 2005. He compiled a 5.63 ERA and 2.12 WHIP in 8 innings with Colorado. They were obviously desperate as his numbers with AAA Colorado Springs were not a whole lot better. Since leaving the Brewers, VDLS struggled in 6 games with Philly in 2003, 17 games with Toronto in 2004, and 27 games with Florida in 2005. He pitched well in 2006 with AAA Charlotte before spending 2007 pitching in the Mexican League. Chad Moeller was outrighted to AAA Scranton after spending much of the summer as the Yankees' backup catcher. His .643 OPS in 84 PAs with NY is actually an improvement over his days with the Brewers. Ruddy Lugo spent a few days in the Mets' bullpen but did not make an appearance. He is struggling as a starting pitcher with AAA New Orleans this year, with an ERA of 5.36 and a WHIP of 1.40. Chad Paronto was DFA after pitching 10+ innings out of Houston's bullpen. His ERA was 4.35 and his WHIP was 1.26. Jeff Bennett is back with the Braves. He has pitched 76+ innings this season, including 4 spot starts, with a 4.24 ERA and 1.45 WHIP. Scott Linebrink has been on the DL the past month after a very good 39 innings as a key member of the White Sox' bullpen. He has a 2.31 ERA and .92 WHIP. Jorge Sosa is with AAA Tacoma after signing a minor-league contract with Seattle. He has a 3.68 ERA and 1.84 WHIP in his first 14+ innings there. Johnny Estrada only managed 55 PAs with Washington this year before being DFA. He had been injured much of the year. Eliezer Alfonzo only lasted 3 weeks and 11 PAs as the Giants' backup catcher before being optioned back to AAA Fresno. Marino Salas lasted only 11+ innings with the Pirates after a 9.26 ERA and 2.40 WHIP. He is back with AAA Indianapolis where he has pitched 54 innings this year with a 3.67 ERA and 1.28 WHIP. Brian Wolfe was optioned back to AAA Syracuse despite a 3.00 ERA and 1.17 WHIP over 18 innings with Toronto. He has been a starter the last 5 games in AAA and has not been quite as good in that role. Greg Aquino had a 12.54 ERA and 2.79 WHIP in 9+ innings with Baltimore before going on the DL and is now on a rehab assignment.
  6. This double-switch makes absolutely no sense.
  7. A fun article from the St Louis Post-Dispatch Link
  8. They didn't really describe it on the radio, but the runner at 1st had to hold to see if it were caught. Cameron was right there, so he must have gotten it in quick enough to hold the runner at 1st from advancing to 3rd, which held the batter to a single.
  9. I thought Counsell was in there for his defense.
  10. I was selfishly hoping for Hall and Durham myself. The Counsell love especially is getting ridiculous!
  11. FYI- Durham is the 273rd player to HR for the Brewers franchise.
  12. Valerio de los Santos was a very solid relief pitcher for six Brewer teams, but surprisingly fell apart after leaving, with a ERA over 6 over 37 innings for 3 different teams from 2003-2005. Even more surprising is that he's still around and was called up to make a spot start for the Rockies tonight. (The Rockies lead the league in former Brewer pitchers- also Rusch, Vizcaino, DelaRosa, Capellan- all of which had their best years with the Brewers.) Tonight, de los Santos gave up only 2 runs and 2 hits, but walked 6 in only 4 innings.
  13. Exactly my thoughts. I don't mind thinking outside the box, but I'm ready for the experiment to end. We can't afford to waste both pitchers, we need at least one to be effective. It may be too early too tell, but it just doesn't look like it's going to work at this point. Plus, doesn't it leave us a bullpen arm short on certain days? You know that's the game that's going to go 15 innings.
  14. This 6-game streak is a franchise record. The one time there was a 5-game streak was oddly enough the first 5 games of the franchise's existence- in April 1969 by Marty Pattin, Mike Marshall, Gary Bell, Diego Segui, and John Morris of the Pilots. That team also had a 4-game streak later in the season, but even that has only been done 2 or 3 times since. The last time for a 4-game streak was August 2005 for Davis, Sheets, Santos, and Capuano.
  15. Per the JS Online blog: 2B Rickie Weeks SS JJ Hardy LF Ryan Braun 1B Prince Fielder RF Corey Hart 3B Bill Hall CF Mike Cameron C Jason Kendall P CC Sabathia I'm not anti-Weeks, but if you are going to trade for someone, I think we should use him!
  16. This is shaping up to be the best day of the season so far...
  17. Giants career numbers against Sabathia (H-AB, .OPS) Rich Aurilia 0-5, .167 José Castillo 1-3, .667 Ray Durham 5-16, .838 Bengie Molina 1-15, .243 Aaron Rowand 11-38, .752 Omar Vizquel 0-4, .000 Randy Winn 7-26, .692 Brewers career numbers against Cain (H-AB, .OPS): Russell Branyan 0-2, .600 Mike Cameron 2-22, .303 Craig Counsell 3-12, .500 Prince Fielder 1-4, .750 Bill Hall 0-3, .250 Corey Hart 0-2, .333 Jason Kendall 4-14, .732 Mike Rivera 2-3, 1.667
  18. I know it's not a real stat and doesn't mean much, but I still think it's interesting: Brewers game-winning RBI this season, total: Fielder 11, Braun 9, Cameron 8, Weeks 6, Hardy 4, Hart 3, Kapler 3, Hall 3, Rivera 2, Gwynn, Kendall, Counsell 7th inning or later: Fielder 5, Weeks 3, Kapler 2, Cameron 2, Gwynn, Hall, Braun, Counsell Walk-offs: Weeks 2, Kapler, Cameron, Fielder, Counsell
  19. Jeff Bennett (Braves) was put on the DL. His 4.28 ERA this year in 61 innings includes 2 saves and 4 spot starts. Chad Paronto called up by the Astros. He had a 2.95 ERA in 42+ innings with AAA Round Rock. Joe Thatcher called up by the Padres for the 3rd (or 4th?) time this year. His 1.21 ERA at AAA Portland this year hint that he can improve his 6.75 ERA with the Padres; in fact he's lowered it from 7.40 since his last recall. Brian Wolfe and Kevin Mench are back with the Blue Jays. While Wolfe went unscored upon in his 7+ innings at AAA Syracuse, Mench's Syracuse numbers aren't all that impressive. Robinson Cancel called up by the Mets for the 3rd (or 4th?) time this year. He was only at AAA New Orleans for a few days. Joe Borowski, DFA earlier by the Indians, was released.
  20. Joe Borowski DFA by the Indians. His ERA was 7.56 along with his 6 saves this year. Glendon Rusch back up with the Rockies. His ERA is over 7 in 14 appearances this year with SD and Colorado, and 4.56 ERA in 7 starts with AAA Colorado Springs. Mark Sweeney to the DL. His BA is .094 and OPS is .306 over 72 PA with the Dodgers. Claudio Vargas outrighted to AAA by the Mets. His 4.62 ERA and 1.19 WHIP this year are better than his career averages. Eliezer Alfonzo recalled by the Giants. It will be his first time up this year after appearing in 113 games during 2006 and 2007. His .955 OPS over 20 games in AAA Fresno likely got him another chance. Ty Taubenheim only spent a couple days with the Pirates before being optioned back to AAA. He allowed only 2 runs over 6 innings in his one start, but his ERA in AAA Indianapolis is over 5. Brian Wolfe optioned to AAA by the Blue Jays, despite a 3.60 ERA over 15 relief appearances this year. Robinson Cancel optioned to AAA by the Mets. He only made 4 PA during his 2 stints in the majors. In 9 games with AAA New Orleans, his OPS is 1.093. Gary Sheffield is off the DL. His .225 BA and .695 OPS is not helping Detroit much although he has played a little better since his return. Kevin Mench optioned to AAA by the Blue Jays. His .210 BA and .572 OPS and no HR over 71 PA is a decline even from his Brewer days. Marino Salas optioned to AAA by the Pirates. His ERA was over 11.
  21. 9 doubles ties a Brewer franchise record, per the radio broadcast- done 4 times previously. The 12 extra-base hits ties a franchise record, done once on 5-15-01 against Philadelphia. 9 doubles and 3 HR- Richie Sexson with 2 doubles and a HR, Jeromy Burnitz and Ronnie Belliard with 3 doubles each, Raul Casanova and Devon White each with a HR, and Tyler Houston with a double.
  22. If we get Sabathia, any chance that it is Suppan that goes to the bullpen? He is the worst starter at this point.
  23. Wow unbelievable. How long would it have gone before we would get an out?
  24. Yep Gagne should have stayed in for the 9th......
  25. Pretty nice to get 5 runs on a day you go 1-14 with RISP. The D-backs have been leaving plenty of runners on base themselves, somehow they have not been as lucky.
