  1. Jones reminds me a bit of Geoff Jenkins. He won't hit lefties well; he's too impatient sometimes at the plate and you'll wonder what he's swinging at; he'll go through some terrible slumps; yet there's times where his bat will come alive and he'll hit real well. He's above-average defensively too. I watched him for a few years in MN and unless he's totally lost it, he's a decent player. I think in Detroit, he was supposed to be platooning with Thames in LF. The Tigers just forgot that their pitching is the real problem, and were too impatient waiting for him to come around. Plus Sheffield wanted to play in the outfield again for some reason.
  2. Gavin Floyd gives up a double to Mauer in the 9th to end the no-hit bid.
  3. Oh by the way, Zambrano and Wood shutout the Reds 3-0.
  4. History could be in the making in Chicago against the Twins. That's all I got to say.
  5. Maybe he shouldn't have started the thread, I don't know. I guess I don't see the point of jumping all over him.
  6. Wow he tried to make a joke. Calm down.
  7. When I first read this, I wondered what percentage of games normally are wins of more than 3 runs, but I went through last year's results and found 32 games the Brewers won in 2007 by more than 3 runs, which is closer to 20% so your point is well-taken.
  8. Another Sheets strikeout. 1 to tie, 2 to become the franchise leader.
  9. Sheets only needs 3 strikeouts to be the Brewer all-time leader.
  10. Jorge De La Rosa is not having a very good season debut with the Rockies. 9 ER in 4 IP.
  11. Yeah with Hardy not hitting and Kendall back to normal, the bottom third of the order seems to be a black hole. The middle of the order is getting on base and the bottom of the order is leaving them stranded.
  12. If you enjoyed "Field of Dreams," you'd probably enjoy the book that inspired it, called "Shoeless Joe" by WP Kinsella. As per usual, the book is even better than the movie.
  13. I will most likely be there at least one of Friday and Saturday. The only reason I wouldn't be at both is that I'm getting sick of the Metrodome prices getting raised every year, plus the Brewers are at the "premium" rate. I used to get HR porch tickets for $11 apiece, and Upper GA for $4; now I need to pay more than double that. But if I'm not sure whether I'll make it down to Miller Park this year (haven't been able to in 3 years now), I'll be tempted to go to both as it could be the only chance to see them live this year.
  14. Eliezer Alfonzo, on the 40-man roster of the Giants, has been suspended 50 games for performance-enhancing substance.
  15. Jorge delaRosa traded from the Royals to the Rockies. He's expected to join the major leagues for the first time this season. Jose Capellan, only promoted 4 days ago, DFA by the Rockies. He pitched in one game, 2 IP, 1 ER, 3 hits, 2 K. Chad Moeller is back with the Yankees after being DFA last week; needed with Posada on the DL. Greg Aquino DFA by the Orioles. His ERA is 14.21 in 6 relief appearances this season. Ray King is a free agent after refusing his option to AAA by Washington.
  16. 14 pitchers is utterly ridiculous, no matter what reason makes the most sense. I suppose that statement alone doesn't add much to the conversation but I'm completely dumbfounded.
  17. I don't know if Toronto made this decision for monetary reasons or what, but it's hard for me to believe that Frank Thomas is not someone who can help that team win this year. He is a future hall of famer that put up good numbers last year. So he's starting slow this year and is in a slump- do they really think he is too old to break out of it? They are going to replace him with a platoon of Matt Stairs and Rod Barajas. Seriously. To me that is a joke and I can understand his frustration.
  18. Back on the major league side, another couple relief pitchers to the DL: Al Reyes and Joe Borowski (not on the original list, AAA 1999).
  19. Sheets is just 14 strikeouts from becoming the Brewers career leader in that category.
  20. This 13 pitcher thing will drive me crazy. 12 is already a lot. I swear the debate used to be whether to go with 10 or 11 pitchers. Maybe I'm just too old.
  21. No team is 3-deep at catcher. I don't think they will have to address their need for a 3rd catcher, that's why they had Moeller at AAA- in case of emergency. Something can't be a huge weakness if every team has the same weakness.
  22. I think Bush is due for a better game. Usually as soon as I think he is not starting-rotation worthy, he comes up with a nice effort.
  23. I think Shouse should only come in with runners on base.
  24. FYI- With the HBP in the 1st inning, Weeks has as many career HBP as Robin Yount finished with. They are tied for 5th in Brewer career HBP.
