  1. Travis Smith is back with Florida, and Keith Ginter has been demoted to AAA by the A's.
  2. I also really like this feature, as I don't always have enough time to read the full link report every day. I have a question on the article though- the 4th best performance listed for Huntsville is Brad Nelson on the 12th. I'm sure it's a typo, but I'm just wondering what was meant. Nelson was playing for Nashville on the 12th and his stat line was unspectacular. No one in Huntsville's lineup on the 12th had a stat line like the one listed. Thanks for satisfying my curiosity!
  3. I was wondering about what might fill the Power 50 void if Toby is going to a monthly deal. I enjoyed having a part in the poll that was put together over the winter, and found it interesting what everyone else thought the rankings should be. Would there be any interest in doing a brewerfan reader poll that was posted monthly opposite the times Toby put out his Power 50? I would be willing to put it together if everyone e-mails their top 50. I figure it wouldn't take too long to copy them into a spreadsheet and come out with an average. However, I don't want to infringe upon Toby and undermine his rankings either.
  4. That is very cool. One problem I found though is that it says Sam Narron was claimed off of waivers from the Milwaukee Brewers. I know that you meant claimed by the Brewers from the Rangers.
  5. "Tommy Phelps inked to a minor league deal." Not to be confused with last year's Travis Phelps...
  6. I stumbled across it when doing a search for Brewer news on the web. I've been hooked since. I can't believe how much it's enhanced my knowledge of the Brewers and baseball in general.
  7. My thoughts: I have never minded Buck and McCarver before, but my goodness there wasn't a half-second of pause between sentences the whole game. I started to get annoyed. They talked more than radio announcers that have to describe every pitch. They must have sewed two AL batting-practice jerseys together for Ruben to wear. Kent wasn't great at 2B but the missed DP was not his fault. I think Renteria should have been able to turn that. Who would have ever guessed we'd see Kolb in the 2nd and Sheets in the 8th- should have been the other way around. But they both did us proud. If you criticize McKeon, you have to criticize Torre the same way. He was also trying to get everyone possible into the game. I don't think you can criticize either manager too much. No matter how much it counts, this game is managed way different than any other game they manage throughout the year. How they manage this game bears no resemblence to how good of a manager they are normally. The NL may have lost, but they have better pitching. If you look at the starting pitchers who relieved in this game, every one of the NL's (Johnson, Zambrano, Pavano, Glavine, Sheets) is better than the AL's (Loaiza, Sabathia, Vazquez, Lilly). Closers are close to even, and the 2 starters should have been even, except that Clemens just had a bad night.
  8. "It works well in Boston, 'cause Varitek catches four of the five starters and Mirabelli only catches Wakefield. The fact that he is a knuckleballer is important, obviously, but I think that type of setup still works nicely (the Braves used it for years with Maddux' personal catcher, Eddie Perez)." Maddux still gets his own personal catcher, this year it's Paul Bako in Chicago. Barrett catches everyone else.
  9. Indianapolis and Buffalo scoreless through 4...
  10. "It was nice to see Scotty's bat come to life this weekend. Five-for-eight, IIRC. If he keeps this sort of thing up, he just might be pushing clsoer to .300." He was actually 5-9, and yes that does push him closer to .300, from .250 to .259 in fact. He could get to .300 if he keeps up that pace for the next 45 ABs (25-45).
  11. I enjoyed being at this game. It was nice to score when we had runners on base. It was great to see Santos and Adams dealing. I liked that we had the strikeout advantage 10-2.
  12. "Anybody going to be at the game tonight or any of the other ones this weekend?" I was there last night (Friday), am planning on tonight (Saturday), and hope to go on Sunday as well. Not sure I'll make it down to Miller this year, so this is my chance to take in some Brewer baseball. Anyone sitting in the outfield upper deck on Sunday? I might be there by myself so I'll look around for some other Brewer fans. Even attending with my Twins' fan wife and in-laws, I enjoyed the game last night, didn't have high expectations coming in (see Santana's 2.20 ERA, 0.73 WHIP, and 40 Ks in 28.2 innings against Milwaukee lifetime). What was the general impression of the play where Bennett took out Guzman at 2nd? It seemed like Bennett went way out of the baseline and ended up on top of Guzman. Twins fan I was with thought it should have been interference and a automatic DP, and I found it hard to disagree. How far can a baserunner go out of his way to take out the fielder on a DP attempt?
  13. It would be a good night to hope for some good pitching. I'd like to see Sarfate, Ballouli, and Kloosterman all bounce back from their struggles.
  14. "Brady Clark=Devil.......... Why on 2-0, why? Oh, that's right. You are the Devil. Did anyone think about a Left handed PH in that situation?" Leifer was the only one left, since Grieve was used earlier against a lefty. I wouldn't have minded Leifer, but I could never envision Yost making that move.
  15. I'm sure it's not important but I guess Dibble also spoke to the all-stars before the game or something. If you listened to the Dan Patrick Show yesterday you already know that. Not sure how enlightening the speech was, but maybe that was cool for the minor-league all-stars to hear from a former major-league all-star. By the way, that was cool Madbad was able to attend, and file a nice first-hand report.
  16. I agree about the bullpen. I was begging for Kolb in the 8th. The problem started when Kieschnick couldn't finish out the 7th, then Vizcaino had too many pitches to go another inning. This didn't leave any proven dependable pitcher for the 8th. True Bennett has proven he is reliable enough for that situation, but Adams hasn't been around all that long yet either. So Yost went with more experience. Ideally Kolb comes in then, but you are still going to need Bennett or Adams for the 9th, so I don't have a problem with that. But when Bennett gets into trouble, it should've been Kolb. If he wasn't ready to trust Adams to start the 8th, why trust him with runners on? Then when Kolb gets out of the inning, use Adams in the 9th with no runners on. Don't ask me what happens if Adams gets into trouble in the 9th... Actually it's too bad Burba wasn't available. Nice that he got a save the day before but was there anyone else available to close out a 12-2 game?
  17. I just wanted to say the article written on the 17-inning game is a great read. I didn't read it right away because I'd already read the AP and JS versions, but I'm glad I did because this version blows them away. I already knew Bill did a good job, but this one really stood out to me. He must have still been caught up in the emotions of the long night. I'm not one for flattery, but felt a complement was due here for a very well-written piece.
  18. Birmingham scores 3 in the top of the 1st off Jones- 2 hits, 2 walks, and an error. Huntsville scores 1 in the bottom of the 1st. Weeks HBP (#18), Nelson RBI single. Jones is out due to pitch count limitations after 33 pitches.. Housman replaces him after 2 are out in the top of the second. Birmingham scored twice more in the 3rd. Another run for Birmingham in the 6th. 6-1 Barons after 5 1/2 innings.
  19. Didn't see Cannon's name, but Tyler Beranek (who I assume you are referring to) went to the Indians as the 1391st pick (45th round?). There must have been some signability issues with Beranek as he is committed to UNLV.
  20. Can we keep them from scoring in one more inning?
  21. "any big names leftover from the first 10 rounds who could be taken in this range or any guys falling bigtime due to signability whom the Brewers might take interest in? Any local boys projected to go in this range?" Endl just got taken but I'm surprised I haven't seen Beranek's name yet? Is he still on the board or am I mistaken?
  22. All I wanted to say is that it's nice to have a 4th Ben on the team finally. Not to mention the 2 Ben-netts as well.
  23. "It was a pretty creative move by Ned." It was a double switch with the opposite effect. In effect, he is also PH for Grieve, which isn't totally necessary in my opinion. Plus, Clark ended up hitting against a RH and Kieschnick against a LH. Though maybe if Kieschnick hits the #9 spot, they bring in Martin earlier.
  24. Notice that all 5 players on the Dodgers bench have a BA over .300 and OPS over .800-- of the starters, only Cora can say the same.
  25. Yes another caught stealing prevents another run from scoring. But we got two in, and made Weaver throw 25 pitches in the 1st inning.
