  1. According to Nashville radio announcers, Tony Gwynn with an outstanding all-out diving catch in the 7th to save a couple runs.
  2. 3. You know, there seems to be a lot of talk recently about players "showing disrespect to the other team" with Aubrey Huff mocking Joba Chamberlain's fist pump, and Casey Blake mocking Brian Wilson's crossing his arms. I'm getting tired of it- why can't players, announcers or whoever just ignore it instead of the attitude that everything is a "show of disrespect to them or their team and there needs to be retribution."
  4. Say what? From the Chicago Sun-Times: The fact that MLB chose to review Ryan Dempster's up-and-in pitch to Milwaukee Brewers showboat slugger Ryan Braun on Friday after Brewers manager Ken Macha whined about it over the weekend caught the Cubs off-guard. ''I read something about it today, and it surprised the heck out of me,'' Cubs manager Lou Piniella said of the pitch that was ruled to hit Braun in the helmet as he squared to bunt (replays showed the pitch hit Braun's bat). ''We never even gave it a second thought. Remember, when you're bunting, you're basically going into the pitch. ... One thing is for certain: You've got to tie Braun up from time to time. If you don't, he's going to feast on you.'' No discipline was expected from the review, but with seven hit batters in six games between the teams this season, one MLB official suggested umpires might be put on alert when the teams play next (July 2-5 at Wrigley Field).
  5. Joe Dillon traded from A's to Rays and assigned to AAA Durham. He hasn't yet played this season because of a back injury. Joe Bateman signed with the Rays and also assigned to AAA Durham. Gary Glover released by the Nationals. He had been at AAA Syracuse. Chad Fox to the DL with the Cubs after only 2 appearances.
  6. You would boo a performer on stage? I know I don't go to enough concerts, but is this done normally? The idea of booing someone onstage is bothersome, there would have to be a real good reason before I'd go along with that. I apologize for stirring the pot, but this logic confuses me. If you are displeased with the situation, let the person know who can change the situation. Booing the player/performer because you don't like their style of play/music is not logical to me. Booing someone for their cheating, lack of hustle, etc. at least makes some sense.
  7. Both true, but the comparison was between this year so far and last year in total; not this year so far and last year through the same 5 weeks.
  8. Tony Graffinino outrighted to AAA Columbus (DFA earlier). Ron Villone called up by Washington. Chad Fox called up by the Cubs.
  9. Bobby Chouinard (a pitcher) got his 1st and only major league hit off Frank Menechino in 2000. However it was his 9th major league PA. David Ross got his 2nd major league hit and 1st major league HR off Mark Grace in 2002. It would have been his 8th major league PA. That's as close as I can find.
  10. I am curious about your source for this information. I checked baseball-reference.com and according to them, the Brewers are now 94-83 against Pittsburgh, best of all NL teams. They are also 3 games above .500 against both Washington/Montreal and Arizona.
  11. Baseball-reference.com has team head-to-head info dating back to 1901. In looking through those details, I couldn't find a streak longer than the 23-game streak by Baltimore over KC.
  12. Dana Eveland optioned to AAA Sacramento by Oakland. Saul Rivera optioned to AAA Syracuse by Washington.
  13. I don't know if he counts as a "Wisconsin native" but he was born in WI - here's an article about Dustin Yount playing in independent ball with the Tuscon Toros. Former Brewer Tim Johnson is his manager.
  14. I agree that some sports nicknames don't make sense and some are too general, but I'd like to see some other suggestions listed to replace them. I think it's harder than we might think to come up with good nicknames, especially when concerned that the name might affect ticket sales to your new fan base.
  15. Just to clarify, I wasn't worried. Though I did see bullpen overuse as a potential problem, the main intent of the post was the information.
  16. While I do not mind that my post has been revived, I may not have written the same things today that I did 10 days ago. The bullpen has not been used the same in the past 10 days. However, I still think that 7 innings is a reasonable goal for a starting pitcher and that Brewer pitchers have not done it often enough. In 25 games, there have only been 5 starts of at least 7 innings. On the other hand, it's been 12 games since a pitcher had to come out before pitching at least 5 innings and that has only happened 4 times all season. A starting pitcher has not come out of the game before the 4th all season. So the bullpen at least has not had to cover a lot of innings that way.
  17. Here is a link to today's schedule. Afternoon game at Wrigley and the Marlins already have a 3-0 lead in the 2nd inning over Harden and the Cubs.
  18. Three more new additions to 25-man rosters: Jeff Weaver - Dodgers Brian Wolfe - Blue Jays Scott Podsednik - White Sox
  19. I agree that it was a lot to pay for a short-term contract. But there was no chance of trading for a player of Sabathia's level with 2-3 years of contract left. If there was, the price would have been even more significantly higher.
  20. Not saying that Suppan is anything great, but this topic should finally be over and done with, in my opinion.
  21. Who's got the best?Aaron Harang went CG 3-hit shutout with 9 Ks 4/12 also against Pittsburgh.Link - see game score explanation at the bottom.
  22. I think Gallardo is going for a 2nd straight CG.
  23. Provus just said Macha "wanted to avoid" using him.
  24. Maybe he isn't pitching the 8th; it's just that he's better than our pinch-hitting options.
