  1. Looks like the current winning streaks against Pittsburgh (13 overall; 16 at home) are Brewer records. I believe the previous longest winning streak against one team was 12 vs. Florida during 1998-99, and the previous longest home winning streak against one team was 12 vs. Oakland during 1991-94.
  2. I would be willing to try something. One of my favorite interests is historical Brewers stats and often I come across something I think is interesting but I wonder if anyone else cares. Seems like that might be a good fit.
  3. Sure thing, a couple other updates I missed are: Zach Jackson, optioned by Indians Luis Vizcaino, DFA by Cubs Claudio Vargas, put on DL by Dodgers So as far as I can tell, the following are currently on a 25-man roster: Carlos Lee - Astros Dana Eveland - A's Marco Scutaro - Blue Jays Lyle Overbay - Blue Jays Jeff Bennett - Braves Doug Davis - Diamondbacks Scott Linebrink - White Sox Nelson Cruz - Rangers Chris Coste - Phillies Matt Stairs - Phillies Mark Loretta - Dodgers Guillermo Mota - Dodgers Jorge delaRosa - Rockies Glendon Rusch - Rockies Gary Sheffield - Mets Wes Helms - Marlins Jamey Wright - Royals RA Dickey - Twins Craig Breslow - Twins Brian Shouse - Rays Grant Balfour - Rays Gabe Kapler - Rays Gabe Gross - Rays Henry Blanco - Padres Chad Moeller - Orioles Dennis Sarfate - Orioles David Weathers - Reds Francisco Cordero - Reds Laynce Nix - Reds Russell Branyan - Mariners Ronnie Belliard - Nationals Julian Tavarez - Nationals Saul Rivera - Nationals CC Sabathia - Yankees Tony Graffanino - Indians Currently on major league 60-day DL: Mike Adams - Padres Claudio Vargas - Dodgers
  4. Seems worth noting that Jason Jaramillo (Racine) is getting regular playing time with the Pirates while Ryan Doumit is hurt. Also, Chris Mehring is tracking WI natives on his Rattler Radio blog and has a note, among others, about Korey Feiner (Sun Prairie) on the DL with the Carolina Mudcats (AA- Southern League, Reds).
  5. By the way, the Brewers have never had a player walk 100 times in a season, although Jeromy Burnitz walked 99 times in 2000.
  6. Yes I believe that's what it is. The putout goes to the closest fielder. One of those odd baseball rules.
  7. Nelson Figueroa DFA after his one start with the Mets, opted for free agency and must have found little interest as he has re-signed a minor-league deal with the Mets. Mike Lamb also signed a minor-league contract with the Mets. Saul Rivera optioned by the Nationals; but recalled 2 days later.
  8. For what it's worth, with Fielder's HBP last night, he is now tied for 8th on the Brewer career leaderboard: Jenkins 95 Weeks 62 Vina 58 Gantner 52 Brady Clark 50 Yount 48 Burnitz 46 Fielder 41 Cirillo 41 Jaha 38
  9. What do we think of the Astros this year? I know they and the Brewers records are similar right now but it seems that they may have a rough year and I predicted them to finish last in the division. I do hope that it doesn't cost Cooper his job though. Save Hunter Pence, their team is fairly old and declining, although Lee and Berkman are still very good. Oswalt is still good but will be as dominating as he used to be? Forgive my blind optimism but I like the Brewers chances in this series even with Suppan and Parra starting over the weekend.
  10. The bullpen wouldn't get so much criticism if the starters would go a bit deeper in games. Yesterday Bush was the first Brewer starter to go 7 full innings this year, although the rotation did have 8 quality starts of 6 innings. (This was the 3rd from Bush, 2 from Gallardo, Looper and 1 from Parra and Suppan) But this means we went 14 straight games without a 7-inning start, and it's only the 4th time in Brewer history that happened: April 2004- went 19 games from the start of the season before Ben Sheets went 7 2/3 in a loss to St. Louis. Rotation consisted of Sheets (4 starts), Doug Davis (4), Matt Kinney (4), Wes Obermueller (3), and Chris Capuano (3) with Chris Saenz making a spot start. Apr-May 1997- went 17 games between a Ben McDonald 7-inning start and a Cal Eldred 7-inning start. McDonald (3), Eldred (4), Scott Karl (4), Jeff D'Amico (4), Jose Mercedes (1), and Jamie McAndrew (1) made starts during that period. May-June 1975- went 14 games between a complete game from Jim Colborn and a 7-inning start by Bill Castro. Colborn (2), Castro (1), Jim Slaton (3), Ed Sprague (2), Pete Broberg (3), Bill Travers (2), and Bill Champion (1) all started games during the streak.
  11. 8/22/03 against the Pirates, Franklin worked 6 1/3 no-hit innings before Craig Wilson homered. Franklin left after allowing only 2 hits through 7 innings and the Brewers hung on to win 3-2. There's about 20 more games where the no-hitter was intact into the 7th. Sheets is on that list twice, Higuera again, Parsons again twice, Navarro, Colborn, Haas twice, Sutton, even Jamey Wright and Wes Obermueller. And one where Ben McDonald left the game after pitching 6 no-hit innings- must have been an injury as it was the second to last start of his career.
  12. That is an interesting bit of trivia. Good call.
  13. Obviously, the Brewers haven't had too much luck in the no-hitter department. But over the years, there are at least 8 other times a pitcher has taken a no-hitter into the 8th inning. 9/9/71- Bill Travers gives up a leadoff single in the 8th to Tony Gonzalez of the Angels, then allows a 2-run triple in the 9th which ties the game. Parsons goes 11 innings allowing 4 hits before the Brewers lose the game 3-2 in the 12th. 7/5/79- Lary Sorenson 2-hits the Yankees and out-pitches Ron Guidry as the Brewers win 2-0. Chris Chambliss broke up the no-hitter with 1 out in the 8th. 9/5/81- Jim Slaton pitches 8 no-hit innings before Sal Butera and the Twins go single-single-home run to open the 9th. Rollie Fingers needs to get the last 3 outs to hold on to a 5-3 win. 9/1/87- Teddy Higuera's one-hitter beats the Royals, but it took 2 runs in the 9th inning off of Bret Saberhagen to decide the game. Ross Jones' 2-out triple in the 8th keeps the Brewers from a 2nd no-hitter in the same season. 5/28/88- Odell Jones, a 35-year old journeyman in his last major-league season, is the least likely on this list. Usually a reliever, his spot start against the Indians would be closest the Brewers have ever been to a perfect game. It took a one-out walk in the 8th for Cleveland to get their first baserunner before a Ron Washington single with one out in the 9th knocked a tired Jones out of the game. Dan Plesac finished up the 2-0 win. 6/15/88- Teddy Higuera with another gem but gives up a home run to the Mariners' Steve Balboni leading off the 8th. Chuck Crim and Dan Plesac pitch the 9th to finish the one-hitter and the Brewers win 5-1. 7/17/92- Jaime Navarro had only given up a walk through 7 innings when a walk, Steve Sax triple, and sac fly give the White Sox a 2-1 lead starting off the 8th inning. Navarro finishes 8 one-hit innings but it takes the Brewers 11 innings to win the game 4-3 as 5 pitchers combine on a 3-hitter. 6/19/08- Dave Bush's first close call as a Brewer is spoiled by the man he was traded for, Lyle Overbay, with a triple leading off the 8th. Another hit scores the Blue Jays first run but Bush finishes the inning with a 8-1 lead only to watch the Blue Jays batter the bullpen with 6 more in the 9th before Salomon Torres can finish off the 8-7 win.
  14. Good way to get our first series win of the season!
  15. 25 through 3 innings now. Maybe he can be the first 7-inning pitcher this year.
  16. Some Brewer trivia to add to the day game festivities.
  17. Also, Coffey set the mark for consecutive scoreless appearances starting a Brewers career with 16, but also ranks 11th in consecutive scoreless Brewer appearances overall (not just starting out): 1997 Doug Jones 23 2007 Brian Shouse 20 2006 Shouse 20 1977 Bill Castro 19 2004 Dan Kolb 18 1992 Jim Austin 18 1986 Mark Clear 18 1998 Mike Myers 17 1991 Doug Henry 17 1984 Ray Searage 17 08-09 Coffey 16 2007 Fransisco Cordero 16 2005 Derrick Turnbow 16 99-00 Bob Wickman 16 And 14th in consecutive Brewer appearance without allowing an earned run: 2007 Shouse 25 2000 Ray King 23 1997 D.Jones 23 1998 M.Myers 22 2006 Shouse 20 1977 Castro 19 2004 D.Kolb 18 1992 J.Austin 18 1986 M.Clear 18 1998 M.Myers 17 1993 Graeme Lloyd 17 1991 D.Henry 17 1984 Searage 17 08-09 Coffey 16 2007 Cordero 16 2005 Turnbow 16 2005 Turnbow 16 (again) 99-00 Wickman 16
  18. Coffey's streak is over, but he is 3rd in consecutive IP starting a Brewer career without allowing a run: 1972 Earl Stephenson 19.1 72-73 Ray Newman 18.2 08-09 Coffey 17.1 1994 Jeff Bronkey 14.1 2006 Fransisco Cordero 14 2004 Mike Adams 13 1996 Ben McDonald 10.2 1988 Tom Filer 10.2 1988 Odell Jones 10.1 1987 Chuck Crim 10 And 4th in consecutive IP starting a Brewer career without allowing an earned run: 1972 Stephenson 19.1 1992 Mike Fetters 18.2 72-73 Newman 18.2 08-09 Coffey 17 1976 Danny Frisella 14.1 1994 Bronkey 14.1 2006 Cordero 14 1971 Marcelino Lopez 13.1 2004 Adams 13 1977 Bob McClure 13 1995 Kevin Wickander 11
  19. This weather outlook gives a 40% chance of rain.
  20. By the way, with Fielder's 2 HBP last night, he is 9th in Brewer history: Jenkins 95 Weeks 62 Vina 58 Gantner 52 Brady Clark 50 Yount 48 Burnitz 46 Cirillo 41 Fielder 40 Jaha 38
