  1. I think Baez can run only. I don't see him swinging a bat over the next week. Then again, I was shocked that Rizzo came back. Me too...tough call for Maddon at this point in the season.
  2. Wong OUT (hamstring) probably for a week, DeJong lowered in the order for the first time (pull happy) The Cubs should take this one as Wacha is mystified by the Wrigley 9 Rizzo back on the field and I don't what Baez's status is.
  3. That's what I think. Barring a Cub collapse the Nats won't make it. A heads up for you guys: CSN cable sports network airs a show @ 6PM called Sports Talk Live. The host, Dave Kaplan (who tells it like it is) is a real baseball guy and the division race will be discussed in detail tonight. There's more informed discussion on the Central Division that MLBTV and ESPN combined, which isn't hard.
  4. A heads up: Wacha's last 2 starts have been bullpen games. He is lifted after 3 no matter how he looks. After that it's a bullpen free-for-all.
  5. Chorizo:"Based in remaining schedules of the competition and the cubs dropping 5 games in the standings since 88 wins seemed like a good barometer for wc2, I think the wc2 winner could wind up with as few as 86 wins, and there is a pretty strong chance of ties leading to play-in games. Going to be fun to watch" Here's my gut: The Cub starting pitching is damn near in free fall and who can trust Darvish? Baez done and Bryant ailing. They play .500 ball this month and will continue to. Brewers make the WC at least. This late run you guys are on w/o Yelich has to have your guys believing. I fear the Cubs because they OWN us. I feel Cards/Brewers to be a toss-up. We just lost a series to the worst team we're gonna face the rest of the way (Colorado) Cubs remaining series' is mixed As you know your schedule is most favorable, and you're hot The Nationals are toast It's amusing that Cub fans will be rooting for a Card win in our series but will fear a sweep by either team! See what I mean?
  6. I agree with you there. The Cards have been winning vs. sub .500 teams while losing to teams of equal quality or better. I don't know about you guys, but with the possible exception of the Cubs I don't see any East or Central ball club beating the Braves AND the Giants to claim the pennant. They just have too many Aces. Giants or Dodgers? LOL oops

  8. I know there's 60 or so games left but the next week and a half could be telling. The Cubs have it tough: Brewers - Cards - Brewers - A's out West. That's a gauntlet. For the record: I don't hate the Cubs...I hate Cub fans and that old rat trap, Wrigley. I hope you sweep.
  9. That's hard to say. My guess is that the closer will be the guy with the best ERA, which isn't CMart. Who's the other young guy who was probably more talented than Hicks? The name is escaping me at the moment, but I thought he was a guy coming back from TJ and was even younger than Hicks. Edit-NM, it was Reyes I was thinking of. I didn't realize how badly he was struggling in the minors this year. That's right. Reyes is looking like a real bust. In spite of his stuff, he just can't win. All arm, no brain.
  10. That's hard to say. My guess is that the closer will be the guy with the best ERA, which isn't CMart.
  11. You must be talking about internet "fans"...real baseball fans know better. Remember 2 years back that the Cards and Cubs would have ended with the same record had they split the season series? Well, so far you guys are doing it to us. de ja blue
  12. Is that all? I thought more. There's a rumbling around Card Nation that Molina is not setting up to best pitch to Yelich. I don't know about that, but I have to wonder why Shildt pitches to the man at all. IS THERE NO POINT where you say "I give up, walk the guy"? FYI Lyons, who replaced Bader (ham string) threw his shoulder out last night on that horrendous throw from CF. I don't know WHO will man center tonite, possibly rookie Drew Robinson who seemed afraid to swing his bat last night.
  13. A word on the Dodgers: they didn't look like the awesome team they are in the last 4 game series with the Cards. So many HBP, wild pitches and walks. Except for Bellinger their hitting was tepid. Max Muncy was less than his usual. But it's a long season and of course, they will bounce back. But you gotta get 'em while they're down. I heard Kershaw is coming off the DL. I wonder if his injury was arm related?
  14. In case anyone missed it, here's the worst play I have EVER seen in the outfield in a ball game at any level. https://www.mlb.com/video/hernandez-s-unusual-double Here's writer, Jay Jaffe's take on the debacle https://blogs.fangraphs.com/instagraphs/just-what-the-hell-was-marcell-ozuna-doing/
  15. No, but the Cubs sure tried. The talking heads said they would be 3rd in the Central and sure enough they they're 1-4. They still have Lester, Hendricks, Baez, Rizzo, Bryant, et al; so what did the writers know that I didn't?
  16. I fancy myself a beer man, but what beer is in the ad behind the left handed hitters', behind the plate? I can only make out the Capital "L".
  17. Totally forgot the Cards signed him. Hopefully that signing goes the way of Greg Holland for them. (No offense, Dead Simmons, it's just business) Sad to admit I know next to nothing about Miller (I barely remember Holland)
  18. I loaded I tunes to get ESPN radio but the game is not on in Memphis, who carries Cards games, so I too am in the dark.
  19. I must admit that I'm exited (as usual) for OD to finally roll around and curious to see what all the fuss has been about over Goldschmidt. BTW, RHP Carlos Martinez is on the DL and Matt Carpenter is day to day. Dexter Fowler and Marcel Ozuna had so-so springs. Fowler will get the start over strong-boy Tyler Lyons even tho' he hit more HR's (5) to Dexter's two in ST.
