  1. Conversely, this game is the only one the Cards figure to win. As you said, Mikolas has the best shot at winning a game in the series. To be honest a sweep may be the best thing that can happen for the Cardinals as a shake-up of some kind is in order. Even the complacent St. Louis fans should see that, but maybe it will take the Pirates passing us before something is done. I hope they reel off 7 in a row!!! http://gatewayredbirds.com/forum/images/smilies/rant.gif
  2. Don't feel picked on, Jericho. The Cards hit everybody, wild pitch to everybody, walk everything. It's the new Cardinal Way. I know you're a Cardinal fan, but you're impossible to dislike. LOL they find it QUITE possible on my home forum.

  4. Last night's loss wasn't as sloppy but with the great pitching by both starters it was really a bore 'till the tension in the 8th and 9th. But nowadays I don't watch live. I roll the ugliness in an hour or less on DVR. That also spares me listening to Jim Edmonds and Tim McCarver blathering the company line. To listen to those two phonies you'd think the Cards were in first place.
  5. Watching the poor defense was really something, not very cardinals-like. It's hard to imagine the Cardinals staying in serious contention if they are capable of games/stretches like this. This might have been a reasonably close game if they played good defense and eliminated the errors. As much as I hate to say it, that's part of why the Cubs rarely have blowup games like this...they have plus or double plus defenders at every position on the field except 1(excluding pitcher spot).Like I pointed out early in the thread the Cardinals have the worst defense in baseball, playing tag with the Texas Rangers for the lead in errors. So last night was VERY Cardinal like. On Ozuna: the only thing I can figure is that he DID lose track of the ball....but fielders DUCK when that happens; it's a natural defense reflex as basic as batting your eyes in a dust storm. I have to conclude that the guy was high as a kite on something. If not...he needs to be traded immediately! It's clear he misjudged it. Given the downturn in is fielding and offense, maybe something is off with his vision. Gyorko has no excuse for his play. I hope he plays the rest of the series. Fortunately I missed the Gyorko gaffs, but we acquired him to be a bat off the bench. It was known he was no Brooks Robinson, or even Smokey Robinson. The lack of hitting makes Matheny forget about that stuff. He and his paycheck cashing flunkie-cronies of a coaching staff could really give a damn. Get this: After the game Matheny blamed the stadium and a "couple of bad breaks" for the loss. The man doesn't even realize how stupid that sounds. I'm pretty close to giving up on this team like I did when Torre was manager, and I'm not alone.

  7. Thanks, Balkin...that date sounds about right!
  8. Little chance of that tonight. Martinez has not found his control since coming off the DL. In his last start we out-hit the opps 11-4 and lost 6-3. He WILL walk 'ya if you let him. Things to watch out for: Carpenter and Molina are raking but Dexter Fowler has become a waste of human protoplasm. The team as a whole is at the bottom of the stat sheet in RISP, base stealing, men lost on base and triples (3) and I don't think there's a single .300 hitter, maybe one on the bench. It's a minor miracle that the team is above .500 and I will be thrilled if the Cards can manage a split.
  9. I searched and searched for Uecker's first appearance with Johnny and came up with nothing. That was the funniest to me. Carson had never heard of him and producer Freddie DeCordeva didn't gave him any prep. He had Carson tearing up with laffs as Bob's deadpan delivery was really funny. They used to show that first interview on the Best of Carson about once a year as Carson's funny bone had come off the rails. He kept looking off to the left and right as to say: Who IS this guy!??
  10. The only thing worse than a cubs fan is a cardinals fan. Hey, hey! The only thing worse than a Cub fan is a Philly fan. But I know what you guys are talking about.... maybe the Cub fans holler because the batter actually HIT the ball, regardless of distance. Pretty impressive to shut that bunch out twice Pretty impressive to have the best record in the NL. That was supposed to Nats/Dodgers/Cubs! I watched the highlights a few nights back where Braun made two really tough plays in the OF. I didn't realize he was that good with the leather. Good lucky against Arietta and that improved Phils team. You gotta get at him early. In fairness, Braun isn't that good in the outfield. He's a good athlete and can make good plays from time to time but I'm not sure I'd say he's much better than average in left. And right on about the Nats/Dodgers/Cubs...all the media talking heads had everyone thinking we may as well not even play the games and fast forward to October, it was basically impossible for any team besides those 3 to win their division. I just finished watching MLB Central and there was nary word on your Brewers or any other NL Central team. Just the same old Yanks/Saux drivel with a little Mariners sprinkled in.

  12. Make sure you have the right feed. I found there were like 10 feeds and only 1 was the correct mlb feed. My feed is 2 pitches behind so yes, it's pretty worthless.
  13. He's the heir apparent for (big contract) Dexter Fowler who's been completely useless. You guys need a nice "good glove, no hit right fielder" ?
  14. I believe the main guy is Cardinal McCarderson, with Jason Motte and some guy called Dan Plesac to remind us there's a team playing the Cards. Thanks for the info. Mott in the booth!?? I thought the guy was still pitching.
  15. Been pulling my hair out trying to find the game, finally I came here and learned it's a Facebook game! That's what I get for watching last night's game on MUTE so I don't have to suffer our announcer's mind numbing blather. This makes the 2nd time I have missed Reyes...I've still never seen him pitch. What did he look like out there? One more question: Who's announcers am I listening to?
  16. Thank you for the link! BTW: What's become of Arcia? Haven't seen him on the highlights for weeks or in the game last night.
  17. Still a lot of time for everything to change. That said, I like what we are doing so far. I just hope we can keep up an above average pace as the season goes on. True that, but 2 months of mashing is no fluke. Seems like every night on the highlights I see your guys hitting bombs...it's scary. The Cubs have some thump too, but you're thumpier.
  18. Won't be hard to do. Wacha is a 5 inning pitcher nowadays and the pen sucks. As a matter of fact the hitting sucks, especially with RISP. You guys have the pundits (and myself) scratching their heads. The Nats, Cubs and Dodgers were supposed to be the cream of the NL this season!
  19. To his credit, Suter was unfazed. Many would have went nuts.
  20. Interesting observation...now that you mention it I can't think of a single memorable player with that number, pitcher or otherwise. I can think of 2 MVP SS, Barry Larkin and Jimmy Rollins, and Drew Bledsoe Larkin's a good one...if you're from Cincy!

  22. LOL...actually Darvish is virtually untouchable his first time thru the lineup. 2nd time: not so much... 3rd time: HR Derby time. Teams hitting over .600 3rd time thru.
