  1. looks like Sveum is going to need rotator cuff surgery the way he windmills em in... Pierre could goalie punt the ball in speedier than his tosses.
  2. Can Billy have his LASIK surgery now (and go on the 15 day DL), rather than wait until the end of the season?
  3. newsflash 1: won't be hitting 3 million turnstiltudes this year. need 37,625 per game before tonight's (~23,000) count is factored in newsflash 2: Yo (post-surgery) "I'll be back in September" including playoffs, 3 mil will be a cinch!
  4. announcer Whatever: "... it's a 6 run lead for the Brewers, but it sure doesn't feel like it..." yikes. ouch. eeshhhhhh.
  5. Major League umpires: helping statistics become subjective since [fill in appropriate year]
  6. so this bullpen by committee stuff is alright by me. the only thing I worry about is all the additional wear and tear on bullpen pitchers as they are warming up every night. Pre 5/11, Gagne goes in top of the 9th and blows it all by himself. Post 5/11, Torres was used, Shouse was used, Mota was warming up (?), anybody else... how will this affect the BP long term?
  7. For the hell of it, I decided to put my 3 -0 record on the line yesterday... the team plane landed from Miami after 3am!? nothing like a home game on a couple hours of sleep 14 hours after you got home for the first time in 11 days. got great scalped tickets at face value in the 300 level... and to echo a previous statement, spent 8 2/3 innings hating the fact that I was there with the dead crowd. Piqued interest and decibel level with the runners on the corners / 0 outs episode, only to get punched down to the canvas again after picking myself up. had my rally sweatshirt on for the first 2 outs of the ninth. JJ stepped in and I took my sweatshirt off, turned in rightside out and assumed spanking position. I had an mysterious calm when Kapler was up there, thinking he'd end it. Kendall, consummate pro. what a rush. 2 - 0 at Miller, 2 - 0 at Wrigley
  8. ok here it is. i think i found it. a silver lining. a 3 game road series against, yes, a very good team. the way we're playing, we would have lost to washington, pittsburgh, the mudhens, the sounds... just about anybody. it's nice to get these 3 in miami out of the way?
  9. Since Gagne coughed up the lead... we have played 23 innings of baseball without being ahead.
  10. good thing we are working the pitch count the way we burned up their bullpen yesterday most sarcastic thread ever tonight?
  11. hanley ramirez appeared in the 3-hole last night due to Willingham's injury. one of the two monotone guys claimed that the Marlins skipper is committing to the new look for 10 games. didn't it take about 10 games to figure out the Braun - Fielder flip... and then another 10 games to get the Hart - Hall order "correct"... after 10 more games i am ready for the Hart - Weeks juggle. CH, MC, RB, PF, RW, BH, JJH, P, JK
  12. on that 2-1 pitch to Weeks... that WAS NOT A STRIKE, but called so... the home plate ump called it a strike and looked stright at the Brewers' dugout almost taunting Simmons to say something. edit: wow pop-out wow
  13. thanks Robin, i pulled the trigger. Dye's speed and durability is suspect. Helton is going to turn around his rough start. Suppan's $8M this season looks so palatable. oy. i know this offense is going to come around... at home.
  14. there are 30 frames for every second of video... i'd love to see a break-down of rickie's abominable bat waggle relating bat position at pitch release to results. helton for dye? crickets... crickets
  15. sorry i know this doesn't belong here - but what the hell - this game sucks: i'm travelling and away from my Baseball Prospectus manual... thought i'd get some real time consultation. i've just been offered Todd Helton for Jermaine Dye... can anyone with the book share the projections? advise... I am 75 - 25 for it. update: Jeff need 6 1/3 scoreless innings to regress to his career ERA
  16. this finesse pitcher on a short outing and an extra day rest stuff have any merit? i was going to say Suppan looked like he was settling in with the Uggla K, but.... fogie is up there throwing BP
  17. Hi Mr. Suppan, You are a career 4.62 ERA pitcher. Your ERA this season is now 5.50; therefore, you owe me 7 1/3 scoreless innings. Please proceed "regressing" to your mean... any time now. Thank you, Peanut Gallery
  18. the guy i go gaga about - his recent slump notwithstanding - is nick swisher. if only. working the count, "clogging" the bases, left-handed stick, requisite amount of grinderness. yost would have no idea how to deal with grit of that stature.
  19. i emphatically RANG UP berkman (or whoever) on that 2-2 pitch. Unbelievable zone. but yeah, I was watching the end of the Jays 4-3 win over the Sox... and Accardo is the Toronto closer, right? he's the closer... that's what he does. he closes. the only "title" out there. but this really odd thing happened when Accardo got the first 2 outs. Thome - a lefty - entered the box, and guess what? a DIFFERENT pitcher - a lefty (not Ryan) came in to get the last out. My trained brain had a meltdown and I had to re-boot the hard drive. Toronto won.
  20. Are you here all week? I'll be sure to tip my waitress. Regarding the comment on Braun pulling up to let Cameron catch it... I am REALLY looking forward to the first time Ned - in end-game run prevention mode - uses 2 outfielders and 5 infielders. Mike C and TGJ? or Stocker?
  21. Melvin & Co.'s decision to backload Suppan's contract was brilliant foresight
  22. an incident as unfortunate as Yo is special. i am sure no one is more sad than he. there are 5 full months before October starts; is there any feasible recovery schedule that allows for a Divisional Series return? I guess we need to know more. gut punch.
  23. Russ you beat me to the M word. How many games now has this hamstringing bench just been killing us? Back to St Louis, right? Extra innings or no extra innings, Melvin has not put this club in a position to succeed with this 14 pitcher crap.
