  1. um... this uninspired, inept 0 - 4 is pretty hard to swallow considering Rickie's 6 - 13 tear "seeing this ballpark". especially given rickie's streaky nature.
  2. 1st: F, F, F 2nd: F, F, K 3rd: F, F, F 4th: K, K, F hey! look at what we found. that's what we're looking for... Benny's settled in, this game is ours. 5th: GB, GB, GB
  3. hey even in a slump you have your speed. try a drag bunt. try some No Doz, too.
  4. I Hart Hart Please "protect" Prince here Corey.
  5. 42 pitch inning by my count. make it quick Benny so he is right back out there. the underbelly. get to the BP underbelly!
  6. strike zone is - consistently - tiny. this is the Tichner guy, right? the cousin, who was called up from AAA, of someone in this forum. little shaky with the confidence to call the outside of the plate.
  7. sorry, I forgot Wellemeyer Ked, but 8 out of 9 fly balls? good thing the air is damp.
  8. first 7 outs by fly ball... Ben needs to get out of this inning unscathed, settle down and review the game plan with Jason.
  9. flyball : groundball ratio is NOT sustainable tonite Benny. unless that dew point is like 200%
  10. how bout some reverse pitching staff inning action tonite? start the game with Mota (he certainly couldn't blow the lead. oh wait, he could)... wait out a rain delay. Let DiFelice Gagne & Shouse poop out five outs. And once the storm clears we can let Benny do his thing uninterrupted.
  11. I have never won a raffle in my life! Egad. Gadzooks. HaZah. Alas, I stub-hubbed for Wednesday's game and I'll be shirking work enough as it is. Crud, my fingers can hardly type this but... but. but.. give the tumbler another twirl. let another diehard get to this series too. did I really just punch Lady Luck in the mouth?
  12. OK. So the 400,000 strong homestand over 10 games turned out to be "pretty easy". No sweat - says the debut of CC and the YMCA game and the 2 weekends bookending it. Still, there was a 35K game in there as well as a 37K turn-out. Nevertheless, 407,870 spun the turnstiles. I - like most of you, I assume - have been spending some quality time on the phone with the Brewers' ticket office. ME: Do you have any tickets for Sunday? HIM: Only scattered singles ME: Hmmm, more of the same for Saturday then too, huh? HIM: Standing room only ME: How about 4 for Friday? HIM: (laughing) ME: okay, uhhh... guess I'll be calling you back a little later. HIM: (laughing) Well done schedule makers / marketers!... load up on the last place Astros for the welcome home weekend party crowd of verifiable, hospitalizable Brewer Fever Mania and brace yourself for 4 midweek battles against the Lovable Losers and the toll trollers associated with them. (Note: I will be paying tolls to get to Wednesday's game. Don't hold it against me.) 300,000 over 7 is an average of 42,857. And frankly, I don't see that as impossible anymore. Did the Treasury Department set up a printing press in Miller Park's basement?
  13. with the 42 pitches in the all-star game and going on 3 days rest in San Franny, I was very glad to see the Counsell pinch hit opportunity arise to get him out after only 84 pitches. on normal rest Benny will be nails. anyone watch that dog whisperer show? well i don't either, nor do i have dogs... but apparently the premise to getting your dogs to behave (so i've heard) is establishing yourself as the Alpha. Benny was throwing SO hard against the Rockies the day after CC's first Crew start - ran up the 11 Ks but also a huge pitch count - maybe trying to show off his stuff to someone with some Cy hardware. It is not a process that has to take long, but I think it has already happened swiftly & organically - CC has come in and established himself as the Alpha of the staff. Benny's success over the the season's final third+ will correspond to how he handles #2 dog status. Get the arm warm, hit your spots, drop the hammer, bite your fingernails, use your change-up like sightings of the white whale, put a gum bubble on someone's hat, work fast work efficient, and drop the hammer one more time... everything that got you to 10 - 2 pre-CC.
  14. Don't know if I made the deadline or not, but I love nothing more than a spin of the ol Bingo tumbler. Here is my pity plea: 4 year Chicago resident surrounded by "team of the century" jibber jabber from 360 degrees (polar coordinates too). I am moving to Oakland / Berkeley on Sept 1. Trying to pack in a few more games. Hey, at least most Crew games will start at 5pm. Thanks for the raffle chance Pedro.
  15. relief, as i wasn't the only one. for real Christmas eve 8 year old stuff last nite for me. i think tonite though the sandman will come with the goods.
  16. I hear Turnbow is relatively free this time of year. I think I might order an iron lung for September - to make sure I'm breathing regularly during games. Need to remember to breath every once and a while in these 1-runners. Three cheers for the bullpen with room for one more.
  17. it's Yost - LaRussa! Suicide squeeze time.
  18. yuk yuk yuk. man, his only save of the year was electric. if what's-his-face was sent down to the minors for throwing balls, can we promote Gagne for that outing? that was restaurant quality. uh oh, NL. look what Eric found.
  19. good gumdrops, the trusty ol cut & paste can deliver the goods: here are the 25 number pairs I came up with, considering we are currently (-3, -1) = (GB Cubs, GB Cards); across the top L-R is the series (0, 1, 2, 3, 4) wins, and down the side T-B is Cubs win (0, 1, 2, 3, 4) -3, -5 -2, -3 -1, -1 0, 1 1, 3 -4, -5 -3, -3 -2, -1 -1, 1 0, 3 -5, -5 -4, -3 -3, -1 -2, 1 -1, 3 -6, -5 -5, -3 -4, -1 -3, 1 -2, 3 -7, -5 -6, -3 -5, -1 -4, 1 -3, 3 It's a rather subjective exercise as to what is defines awesomeness.
  20. After the next 4 games, the standings will reflect 1 of 25 different outcomes. (one of five possible MIL - STL series outcomes X one of five possible Cubs win totals) Worst case scenario is trailing the Cubs by 7 and the Card by 5. Best case scenario is leading the division (Cubs) by 1 and the Cards by 3. What's interesting (to me at least), is that out of the 25 outcomes: 11 would make us decidedly worse off 5 have us still 3 games back of somebody (but maybe in 2nd place) 9 are awesome improvements What am I supposed to do? Work in the middle of my Crew fever? Man, September (hell, August) could see some record low productivity outta me.
  21. I'm OK with this move... you're going to need Shouse in St. Louis and you might as well knock the rust off. These 2-stroke engine types really work better when they're warm. hey careful how you're quoting... pulled your comment out. I am still OK with the move. rather it happen here than there. my 1974 Vespa also sucks when it is getting started up for the first time in a week+. (and when it has to face right turns, too) great series! now just as long as the guys don't get on the plane wearing any of these: http://i22.ebayimg.com/04/i/05/e9/b9/aa_1_sbol.JPG

  23. really, really good baseball out of the 1-2 right now. Rickie's eye at the plate... the threat of the steal, the motion, the agitated defense... the hit and run - his 1st to 3rd speed. JJ's protection of pitches, the contact, getting to 2nd on the ill-advised throw. MAN, I wonder if Boras is going to bring up Prince's production drop because he's hitting behind the RBI machine. Or try to get us a sweetheart deal on someone in exchange for swapping the 3-4 guys.
  24. ESPECIALLY since the official scorer Jobbed Braun of a double... charging Winn with a error on a ball that slipped out of the webbing to protect precious Timmy's stats.
