Forbes list of revenues by team .... 5) Cubs, 6) Cardinals, 17) Pirates, 20) Reds, 21) Brewers The Cubs and Cardinals have significantly more resources to pay for scouting and development. You have to figure that in when evaluating the front office. Pirates are up now but we'll see if they stay there. I doubt it. Most likely they will have a run like the Brewers did and then fade again.

Riggins' Blast in 12th Earns Hammerheads Split By Jerry Durney / Brevard County Manatees 06/18/2015 11:08 PM ET http://www.milb.com/assets/images/1/9/8/131575198/cuts/Brennan_3_j2quqccs_x7k3c19f.JPG Taylor Brennan, seen here, had two hits in Thursday's loss. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) Viera, Fla. - In a four-game series that was dominated by starting pitching, one swing of the bat ultimately proved to be the difference as the Jupiter Hammerheads (33-34) earned a series split with the Brevard County Manatees (29-37) in a 2-1 victory in 12 innings Thursday night at Space Coast Stadium. The Manatees took the initial lead in the bottom of the third inning, which started with an Angel Ortega base hit back through the middle and into centerfield. Omar Garcia then with a double that was chopped over the head of Brian Anderson at third base, Ortega ultimately was held up at third on the play. He would not have to wait long as he scored on a Chris McFarland ground out to shortstop. Hammerheads starting pitcher Jose Adames recovered to retire Cameron Garfield on another groundout to short and after walking Clint Coulter, induced a groundout from Garrett Cooper. Much like they did on Wednesday, Jupiter equalized in their next turn at-bat, this time in the top of the fourth. The inning was catalyzed by an Avery Romero single, who then advanced to third when Garcia overran an Austin Dean base hit in centerfield. Manatees starting pitcher Brandon Woodruff bounced back to strike out Anderson but conceded the tying run on a Justin Bohn single to center. The rally ended when Harold Riggins struck out. From there on, both pitching staffs turned in phenomenal performances into the top of the 12th. It was in that frame where the Hammerheads broke the deadlock as Harold Riggins clubbed his third home run of the season, a 418-foot shot to right centerfield, off of Mark Williams, who was pitching in his fourth inning of work. Jupiter reliever Esmerling De La Rosa set the Manatees down in order in the bottom of the 12th to earn the win for himself and the Hammerheads. Adames gave up just the one run on three hits in five innings of work, striking out six and walking two. He would be followed by Chris Sadberry who threw two and two-thirds shutout innings, striking out two. Tyler Kinley followed with two and one-thirds stellar innings, striking out five batters on 25 pitches, 22 of which were strikes. De La Rosa then threw two hitless innings to finish it, striking out three in the process. Blake Barber had a three-hit for the Hammerheads, while Austin Dean had two of his own. Woodruff turned in another terrific performance for the 'Tees, going a career-best eight innings, giving up 1 unearned run on seven hits, striking out four without issuing a walk on 99 pitches. Despite being saddled with the loss, Williams was excellent out of the bullpen, striking out five in three and two-thirds innings of work on 59 pitches. Offensively for Brevard County, Taylor Brennan and Ortega each recorded a multi-hit game. Garfield's streak of consecutive games with a hit was snapped at six as he went 0-for-5. The Florida State League now heads to its All-Star break with the Manatees sending five players to the game Saturday night at Tradition Field in Port St. Lucie at 7:00 P.M. The Manatees will be back in action on Monday as they play a doubleheader on the road against the Lakeland Flying Tigers. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 5:00 P.M.; pitching matchups have not yet been announced. Brevard County Box Score Woodruff's line: 8 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 4 K, 10/7 GO/FO This was probably his best start of the season. The run was unearned but that is questionable. The error was by Omar Garcia which allowed the runner to go to 3rd instead of 2nd. This was followed by a 2 out ground hit up the middle. The runner probably scores from second with 2 outs anyway but the official version calls the run unearned. The Manatees struck out 16 times with only Angel Ortega and Clint Coulter avoiding any K's. I know the Manatees faced one reliever this year who was from Brazil. I can't find him right now though. Bradenton has a pitcher from the even more unlikely: India. Brazil Baseball -

Salas Shines as Fernandez Fires in Manatees Win By Jerry Durney / Brevard County Manatees 06/17/2015 10:30 PM ET http://www.milb.com/assets/images/5/5/0/121645550/cuts/IMG_3176_1fns03sk_y8swfq0u.JPG Brevard County starter Javi Salas, seen here from a game from earlier this season, tossed his first complete game of the season in Wednesday's victory. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) Viera, Fla. - On a night when a former Rookie Of The Year brought the crowd to Space Coast Stadium, a Florida State League All-Star would send them home happy as Javi Salas threw his first complete game as a professional to give the Brevard County Manatees (29-36) a 2-1 win over the Jupiter Hammerheads (32-34) on Wednesday night. After having a runner thrown out at the plate and stranding a runner at third in the first inning against the rehabbing Jose Fernandez, the Manatees opened the account in the bottom of the second as Michael Ratterree led off with a 387-foot home run to left center to put Brevard County on top. The blast was Ratterree's second of the campaign. After that, Fernandez surrendered just one hit and one walk as he struck out 10 in four and two-thirds innings of work, giving up just the one run on four hits. The Hammerheads equalized in their next turn at-bat, with the inning being ignited by a leadoff double from Chris Hoo. After Fernandez, who hit for himself, sacrificed him over, Hoo scampered home on a sacrifice fly to center by Yefri Perez to bring Jupiter level. Brevard County took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth against Hammerhead reliever Matt Milroy. Clint Coulter walked with one out to bring up Garrett Cooper. Cooper then ripped a double into the gap in right center, bringing Coulter all the way around to score just ahead of Hoo's tag following a strong relay throw by Avery Romero. Salas did not give up a hit after the sixth and retired the final six hitters after working a treacherous seventh inning in which the Manatee defense committed three errors. At night's end, the right-hander gave up one run on five hits, striking out three and walking none to go the distance for his sixth win of the season. Offensively for the 'Tees, Cooper's tie-breaking double was his 19th of the season. Chris McFarland recorded a multi-hit night and Cameron Garfield extended his hit streak to six games with his first-inning double. The Manatee look to head into the All-Star break with a series in Thursday's finale as RHP Brandon Woodruff (1-4, 4.74 ERA) gets the ball against RHP Jose Adames (1-1, 3.48 ERA), first pitch is scheduled for 6:35 P.M. Brevard County Box Score Javi Salas with the complete game. Final line: 9 IP, 1 R, 5 H, 0 BB, 3 K, 20/4 GO/FO When Javi is getting ground balls at that rate, you know he is on his game. The sinking fastball is his out pitch. He has touched the mid nineties this year but is probably most effective in the low nineties which gives his sinker more time to act. Stephen Halcomb was given a spot start at shortstop and committed 3 errors. Clint Coulter was the only Manatee not to strike out against Jose Fernandez. Brevard County Game Log

Hammerheads Offense Explodes in Blowout By: Jerry Durney Viera, Fla. – One night after being shutout, the Jupiter Hammerheads’ (32-33) bats left no doubt that there would not be a repeat performance as they used an early outburst for an emphatic 12-4 victory over the Brevard County Manatees (28-36) on Tuesday night at Space Coast Stadium. The game’s opening run would come in the top of the second inning, which started on a Justin Bohn double. Bohn would move up to second on a Harold Riggins groundout and then score on a Yuniel Ramirez single. Manatees starting pitcher Eric Marzec escaped further damage thanks to a pair of fielder’s choices sandwiched around a flyout. Brevard County would draw level in the bottom half of the inning, starting with Garrett Cooper’s one-out double to left center. He would move to third on a Taylor Brennan groundout and then scored when Steven Halcomb lifted a fly ball into shallow right that was just beyond the reach of a diving Avery Romero. The Hammerheads would bust the game open the following inning. Austin Dean started the rally with a leadoff double down the left field line. Felix Munoz followed with a single to right but Dean would be held up as he came around third. A walk to Brian Anderson loaded the bases for Bohn. Bohn would bring home Dean on a groundball to short that Angel Ortega decided to get the easier force out at third to retire Munoz. The bases would be loaded on a walk once again, this time to Riggins. Ramirez then followed with a dribbler up the first base line that Marzec fielded and flipped to the plate but Cameron Garfield could not hang on and two runs came in to score as the ball got to the backstop. After a Chris Hoo flyout, Yefri Perez hit a chopper towards the second base bag that Ortega misplayed into the outfield, allowing Riggins and Ramirez to score. The deluge concluded as Perez scored from first on a single to deep left center by Romero, who advanced to second on the throw home. The onslaught continued with Manatee reliever Kaleb Earls on the mound as Munoz led off the top of the fourth with a home run to right centerfield, his third of the season. Following an Anderson groundout and Bohn flyout, Riggins walked and then scored on a Ramirez double. The ‘Tees would have an uprising at the plate in the bottom of the seventh, which started with an infield single from Cooper. Brennan followed with a walk and then moved to second on a Halcomb single that would loaded the bases. The second Manatee run of the game across as Cooper scored on an Ortega groundout. Omar Garcia then brought home Brennan on a single to center and Halcomb would be plated soon after on a sacrifice fly from Chris McFarland. That would be all Brevard County could manage as Clint Coulter struck out following a Garfield single. Jupiter tacked on three for window dressing in the top of the ninth, which started with four consecutive base hits off of Preston Gainey, the last of which scored Anderson. Tyler Spurlin replaced Gainey and immediately coaxed a double play from Hoo, scoring Bohn in the process. Riggins would score the final run of the night on a Perez single. Marzec for the evening lasted two and two-thirds innings, giving up seven hits and seven runs, however only three of those runs were earned as the Manatees committed five errors on the night. Offensively, Brevard County got a three-hit night from Halcomb and Garfield extended his hitting streak to five with a multi-hit game, including a double. Eight Hammerheads recorded a hit, led by Perez and Ramirez, who each had three. Ramirez also recorded three RBI. Lost in the Hammerheads’ 14-hit attack was a solid pitching performance by former Brewer Chris Narveson. The left-hander went six and one-third innings, giving up four runs on seven hits, striking out three and walking two. Outstanding starting pitching should be on display once again in Viera on Wednesday as newly minted Florida State League All-Star RHP Javi Salas (5-4, 2.60 ERA) will be on the mound against the rehabbing 2013 National League Rookie Of The Year RHP Jose Fernandez (0-1, 5.63 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 P.M. Brevard County Box Score It was originally 5 errors but they changed one to a hit. Botched run down, flip back to the pitcher gets away after a pickoff attempt, everything went wrong here. Garfield was 2 for 4 with a double (thrown out trying for a triple), Cooper was 2 for 4 with a double, Brennan had 2 walks and Stephen Halcomb, in a spot start, had three hits. Halcomb would have been 4 for 4 but his other at bat was a potential bloop hit but Brennan had to hold up to see if the outfielder would catch the ball and was forced at second. On to Jose Fernandez. Jorge Ortega took 93 pitches to go through 9 innings yesterday. Eric Marzec used 80 in 2 2/3 innings today. Not much went right in this game for the Manatees.
-
That didn't take long. Less than a day before the Brewers proved me a liar on promotions from the Manatees. Congratulations to Victor Roache. Manatees are expecting to play a man down until after the All Star Game (Saturday I think). Maybe Jose Pena will be back again?
-
There is a sense in the Manatees' organization that the Brewers may not want top prospects in Colorado Springs where they may get screwed up by the nature of the park there.
-
Mets have just brought up Akeel Morris from A+ to bolster their bullpen. Maybe K-Rod would be a better trade for them. You might get one of their lesser pitching prospects just because, as mentioned above, they are well stocked with starters right now.

Manatees Take Series Opener Behind Ortega Shutout By Jerry Durney / Brevard County Manatees 06/15/2015 10:08 PM ET http://www.milb.com/assets/images/1/7/0/121863170/cuts/SM2_1672a_XL_zp906qhc_qgc4c8jd.jpg Jorge Ortega, seen here from a game earlier this season, did not allow an earned run in five innings, but took the loss on Saturday. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) Viera, Fla. - Jorge Ortega delivered the best performance of his all-star season on Monday, firing his fourth complete game of the year, along with his first shutout as the Brevard County Manatees (28-35) took the series opener against the Jupiter Hammerheads (31-33) 4-0 at Space Coast Stadium. Ortega was rarely touched, as Jupiter's sole scoring threat came in the top of the third, starting with their first hit of the ballgame on a one-out double by Harold Riggins. After inducing a groundout from Chris Hoo, Yefri Perez slapped a ball that seemed destined for centerfield to score Riggins but Chris McFarland's sliding backhand snare made Riggins stop at third. That's as close as the Hammerheads would come the rest of the night as Avery Romero flew out to left to end the inning. The Manatees would provide Ortega with all the run support he would need in the bottom of the second, which was led off by a leadoff base hit by Garrett Cooper. Taylor Brennan then just missed his first home run off the season on a deep drive to right field that bounced on the warning track, one-hopping the wall to set up runners at second and third for Cameron Garfield. Garfield's recent run of good work at the plate paid off with a bit of luck on a ball that hit Hammerheads starting pitcher Sean Townsley in the leg and into right field to score Cooper for the game's first run. Angel Ortega then followed with a single through the middle to bring Brennan home. The threat would be extinguished as Omar Garcia hit a grounder to third that turned into a double play and McFarland flew out to center. Brevard County then gave themselves some insurance in the bottom of the sixth. The rally would be kick started by a one-out single by Brennan. Garfield followed with his third hit of the night, this one a flare into shallow right. As Garcia came to the plate, Brennan and Garfield successfully executed a double steal. Both runners would come home when Garcia hit a liner just over the head of Jupiter shortstop Justin Bohn. Ortega retired the first seven hitters he faced and 19 of the last 21 for his first career shutout. For the fourth consecutive start, Ortega did not walk a batter, taking his streak of consecutive innings without issuing a free pass to 39.0. Ortega threw 93 pitches to complete the masterpiece, each of his three nine-inning complete games this season have taken less than 100 pitches to achieve. RHP Eric Marzec (1-4, 3.76 ERA) has a tough act to follow as he will get the start on Tuesday against former Brewers left-hander Chris Narveson (1-0, 0.00 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Brevard County Box Score Jorge Ortega in complete control in this one. Not much offense needed but Taylor Brennan had two hits including his 9th double of the season. Cameron Garfield had three hits and has now raised his batting average to .250 which, not long ago, was under .200. Victor Roache had his 11th double. Note that Narv-dog is making the next start for Jupiter against the Manatees. The Hammerheads are one the poorer hitting squads in the FSL. It was mentioned during the broadcast that there will likely be few changes in the Manatees roster just because the Brewers are wanting to keep the Biloxi team together so there is no place to promote guys from Brevard County. Please enjoy this box score! Brevard County Game Log

Jorge Ortega--4th complete game, 1st shutout, 4 hitter, now 39 innings without a walk. Can't say enough. He was on a strict pitch count but forced their hand with efficiency.

Akeel Morris has been promoted all the way from St. Lucie Mets (A+) to NY Mets. Don't see that too often.

Five-Run Sixth Gives Threshers Series Win By Jerry Durney Clearwater, FL- The Clearwater Threshers’ (32-31) resilience was on display throughout the weekend, and they used that resilience on Sunday afternoon in abundance, rallying twice from multi-run deficits to take the series in a 9-5 win over the Brevard County Manatees (27-35) in the rubber game at Bright House Field. The Manatees would take the lead right away in the top of the first as Chris McFarland, Michael Ratterree and Clint Coulter all singled off of Threshers starter Mark Leiter Jr., the last of which scored McFarland to put the Manatees on top. Leiter would escape further damage as he followed those three consecutive singles with a popout and two groundouts. Brevard County would add on in the following inning as Omar Garcia reached base after being hit by a Leiter pitch with two out. He would promptly steal his 23rd base of the season and then score on a base hit to left by McFarland. The Thresher offense would spring to life for the first time in the bottom of the fourth. The frame started with a leadoff single by Andrew Pullin, which brought Manatee starter Johnny Hellweg’s day to a close, as he was being closely monitored. The rally would continue against new Manatee reliever Tristan Archer as Dylan Cozens singled with one out. Andrew Knapp followed with a double to left to plate Pullin and bring Cozens to third. Willians Astudillo then laced a single to center to score Cozens and Knapp to give the Threshers their first lead. The ‘Tees responded right away in the top of the fifth as McFarland led off with a base hit and then advanced to second on a walk to Ratterree. Coulter followed with a single of his own to load the bases as the ‘Tees played it station to station on the basepaths. Victor Roache brought the Manatees level on a sacrifice fly but that would be all as Leiter induced a double play ball from Garrett Cooper. Brevard County re-took the lead in the top of the sixth, with the inning being ignited by a one-out single from Cameron Garfield off of new Threshers reliever Miguel Nunez. Angel Ortega followed with a single of his own and on a double steal attempt, Andrew Knapp’s throw got by the bag at second, allowing Garfield to score. Garcia then added to the cause with a single to center to bring Ortega home and make it a 5-3 lead but that would be as much as Brevard County would muster for the rest of the afternoon. Clearwater would open the game-changing bottom of the sixth inning with a leadoff single by Kelly Dugan. Cozens followed with a double to center and when Knapp reached on a chopper in front of the mound, the bases were loaded for Astudillo. True to what “taking one for the team” is all about, Astudillo brought home a run the hard way as Archer’s offering hit him. After an Angelo Mora grounded led to Cozens being forced out at the plate, Mitch Walding’s double to center brought home Knapp and Astudillo to put the Threshers ahead for good. Archer would be lifted after striking out Chase Harris and Drew Stankiewicz immediately greeted Stephen Peterson with an RBI single to center, plating Mora and Walding to complete the five-run frame. The Threshers would add an insurance run in the following inning as Cozens hit a one-out ground-rule double, stole third and then scored on a groundout by Astudillo. Edubray Ramos recorded the final nine outs for Clearwater, six of them via strikeout to record the save. Hellweg, in his second start since undergoing Tommy John Surgery last April, gave up one run on three hits in three innings, striking out three and walking none. At the plate, Brevard County were paced by a four-for-five day from the All-Star second baseman McFarland and a two-hit day by Garfield, who went six-for-ten in the series. The Manatees now return home for a four-game series with the Jupiter Hammerheads before Saturday’s Florida State League All-Star Game. All-Star RHP Jorge Ortega (5-4, 2.01 ERA) gets the start against LHP Sean Townsley (3-7, 4.85 ERA) in the series opener Monday night at 6:35 P.M. at Space Coast Stadium.

Five-run sixth inning sinks Manatees in Clearwater finale June 14, 2015 2:37 PM MST From the Examiner: http://cdn2-b.examiner.com/sites/default/files/styles/image_content_width/hash/c2/c7/c2c7bc6116435dda2b5ca108dd8f42d0.jpg?itok=EXabtTOG Johnny Hellweg made his second start for the Manatees on Sunday, allowing one run in three innings of work. Photo by Maddie Meyer/Getty Images The Brevard County Manatees finished their three game series Sunday, against the Clearwater Threshers. The two teams split a doubleheader Saturday, with the Threshers winning game two on the strength of six-run third inning. They followed that up Sunday with a five-run sixth inning and went on for the 9-5 victory. Dylan Cozens was the hitting star for the Threshers, going 4-for-4 with three doubles and two runs scored. Teammate Willians Astudillo went 1-for-3 with four RBI. On the other side, Chris McFarland had a great day at the top of the batting order for the Manatees, going 4-for-5 and driving in one run and scoring two. He started the game with a single against Threshers starter Mark Leiter Jr. Michael Ratterree and Clint Coulter did the same, putting the Manatees up 1-0. Brevard County (27-35) added a run in the second with a two out rally. Omar Garcia was hit by a pitch and quickly stole second base, his 23rd of the season. McFarland was at the plate and with Garcia running, he singled to left, putting the Manatees up 2-0. Johnny Hellweg who is continuing his comeback from Tommy John Surgery got his second start of the season on Sunday. His first start, back on June 9 lasted only two innings because of a rain-delay in Palm Beach. Hellweg looked good on Sunday, pitching three-plus innings and hitting 97-MPH on the radar gun in the third frame. He did start the fourth inning, but gave up a single to Andrew Pullin before being lifted in favor of Tristan Archer. Archer started by striking out Kelly Dugan, but things went downhill from there. He allowed a single to Dylan Cozens and a double to Andrew Knapp, scoring Pullin. That run was charged to Hellweg and closed the gap to 2-1. Hellweg ended the day allowing a run on three hits and three strikeouts. Archer’s struggles continued in the fourth as Astudillo followed the Cozens double, with a two-run single, giving the home team a 3-2 lead. Astudillo had quite a game, going 2-for-3 with a run scored and four RBI. The Manatees answered back in the fifth, tying the game at three. McFarland singled and Ratterree walked. Coulter singled McFarland home, knotting things up. Leiter would get out of the inning, but he gave way to Miguel Nunez in the sixth. Cameron Garfield and Angel Ortega hit consecutive singles with one out in the sixth. Angel Ortega took off for second with Omar Garcia batting and Knapp tried to throw him out at second. The throw was off line and brought Garfield home, making it 4-3. Garcia followed with an RBI single, scoring Ortega and upping the lead to 5-3. McFarland then singled, moving Garcia to third, but Ratterree and Coulter failed to keep the inning alive, as they both popped out. The inability to add on there would prove costly, because Clearwater would strike for five runs in the bottom of the inning. Dugan singled and Cozens followed with a double. Knapp would then hit one back to the mound that Archer fielded. He wanted to go to third, but the play wasn’t there and by the time he turned to throw to first, it was too late and the bases were loaded with no one out. Archer hit Astudillo with a pitch, making it a 5-4 game, and one out later Mitch Walding doubled, scoring two and giving the Threshers a 6-5 lead. After recording an out on a strikeout, Archer was lifted in favor of Stephen Peterson. Drew Stankiewicz greeted him with a two-run single, making it an 8-5 contest. Edubray Ramos came on in the seventh to finish things up for the Threshers on the mound. He struck out the side in seventh, the first two hitters of the eighth and he was the only one to get McFarland out, sending him down on strikes to start the ninth. Clearwater scored their final run of the day in the bottom of the seventh, on an Astudillo ground out. It would be the seventh run charged to Archer (1-3) in the game. He gave up six hits and struck out four. For more info: Brevard County @ Clearwater boxscore The Manatees will return home Monday night to take on the Jupiter Hammerheads at 6:35 p.m. in the first of a four-game series between the two teams. As it stands now, rehabbing Marlins starter Jose Fernandez, is scheduled to pitch Wednesday night at Space Coast Stadium. Brevard County Box Score Hellweg was 3 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 3 K. He left a runner on who scored while Tristan Archer was pitching. Hellweg seemed to throw pretty well in this game. Tristan Archer did not have a good day but they were committed after bringing him in in the 4th inning having played a double header yesterday. Archer was charged with 7 runs in the game. Chris McFarland had 4 hits while Clint Coulter and Cameron Garfield had 2 each. Brevard County Game Log

Worried about how Wei-Chung Wang is performing. The Clearwater announcers called him a "nibbler" yesterday before the game started. Obviously, this has now become his reputation. Here is how he has done excluding Brewers' appearances: 2013 Gulf Coast Pirates 47.1 IP, 3.23 ERA, 0.866 WHIP, 7.0 H/9, 0.8 BB/9, 8.0 K/9, 10.50 K/BB 2014 Combined Minor League 26.1 IP, 2.39 ERA, 0.949 WHIP, 7.2 H/9, 1.4 BB/9, 7.5 K/9, 5.50 K/BB 2015 Brevard County 60.2 IP, 5.93 ERA, 1.665 WHIP, 11.6 H/9, 3.4 BB/9, 6.7 K/9, 1.96 K/BB Not a good progression. Unless there is some underlying injury, this is very worrisome.

Threshers thump Manatees in game two, 8-2 Donald Rieber, Jr., Examiner.com http://cdn2-b.examiner.com/sites/default/files/styles/image_content_width/hash/b5/b1/b5b19f2549bcfda52ac5c23fa8a9342f.JPG?itok=x36LLyXC Clint Coulter's 2-run homer accounted for the Manatees only runs in game two of Saturday's doubleheader Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography (used with permission) After the Brevard County Manatees took game one of Saturday’s doubleheader by the score of 6-5, the Clearwater Threshers came back with a 12-hit outburst in game two, leading them to an 8-2 victory and a split of the doubleheader. Brevard County (27-34) started well, with Clint Coulter hitting his 10th home run of the season in the top of the third, pulling the Manatees out to a 2-0 lead. The long ball pulled Coulter into a tie for the league lead in that category, with teammate Victor Roache. The lead would be short-lived, as the Threshers would put six on the board in the bottom of the third against Manatees’ starter Brandon Woodruff. With one out, the Threshers reeled off five consecutive hits, including RBI doubles by Dylan Cozens and Aaron Brown. Andrew Knapp, Mitch Walding and Drew Stankiewicz added RBI singles in the inning. After giving up the home run to Coulter, Threshers starter David Whitehead (4-6) settled in, allowing only four hits overall, in five innings of work. He walked four and struck out three. Woodruff (1-4) would make it through the fifth inning as well, but the damage done was insurmountable. Clearwater (31-31) would tack on two more runs in the sixth inning against Brevard County reliever Kaleb Earls. Angelo Mora and Stankiewicz hit back-to-back singles with one out. The Stankiewicz hit was bobbled in left field by Roache, allowing both runners to advance. Andrew Pullin followed with a single to center, chasing both guys home and widening the lead to 8-2. The error by Roache made one of the runs unearned for Earls. The gaffe was unfortunate, because Roache had played good defense in both games to that point. Earls ended up giving up three hits and the one earned run, in his one inning of work. Garrett Cooper, who went 2-for-3 in game one, backed it up with another 2-for-3 performance in game two. He was the only Manatee with two hits. As a team, they only managed five. Stankiewicz led the Threshers with three hits, Pullin and Walding each had two.

Dugan Homers, Threshers Split Double Dip Clearwater Drops Opener 6-5, Bests Manatees 8-2 in Nightcap By Kirsten Karbach / Clearwater Threshers 06/13/2015 10:12 PM ET CLEARWATER, Fla. - Kelly Dugan launched a solo shot against the wind in his first game of the 2015 season, and the Clearwater Threshers split a twin bill against the Brevard County Manatees on Saturday night at Bright House Field. Clearwater (31-31) fell short in a 6-5 loss in the opener, but a six-run third inning launched the Threshers to an 8-2 victory over the Manatees (27-34) in game two. The Threshers dropped game one despite connecting for three home runs against starter Wei-Chung Wang (4-2). Down 3-0, Mitch Walding got Clearwater on the board in the second inning. With two out, Walding shot an opposite-field homer out to left, his second of the season. Dugan followed suit in the third frame. The 24-year old outfielder launched the first offering from Wang out to the berm in right for his first hit and first homer of the season. Dugan was activated from Reading's disabled list on Thursday and assigned to Clearwater after being sidelined with a stress reaction in his right foot to begin the year. After the Manatees later regained the advantage on a Cameron Garfield two-run homer against Cody Forsythe (2-1) in the sixth inning, Chace Numata went yard in the bottom half for his first blast of the year, making it a 6-5 deficit. Clearwater fell behind early in game two, but exploded for six runs on seven hits in the third inning. Trailing 2-0, Andrew Pullin got the rally started with a one-out single to center. Dugan followed by lining a 1-2 pitch into left, and Dylan Cozens crushed a double to right field to plate Pullin with the Threshers first run. Andrew Knapp gave Clearwater the lead, sending a two-run single up the middle to make it 3-2 Threshers. Aaron Brown split the left-centerfield gap with a double to score Knapp, and one out later Walding sent a liner into left for a base hit to bring across Brown. Angelo Mora walked, and Drew Stankiewicz worked a seven-pitch at-bat before blooping a single to left that allowed Walding to score before Mora was thrown out at third to end the inning. By then, the Threshers had brought home six to grab the 6-2 advantage. David Whitehead (4-6) turned in five innings of two-run ball to get the win, the only real blemish coming on Clint Coulter's 10th homer of the season in the third. Whitehead allowed just four hits but walked four, and struck out three. Pullin gave Clearwater some extra cushion in the sixth by grounding a two-run single up the middle to make it 8-2, and Ulises Joaquin took it the rest of the way by tossing two shutout frames in relief. Dugan finished 2-for-7 on the day, including the home run, a walk, and two runs scored. Walding turned in two multi-hit games, going 4-for-6 with two RBI's and three runs across the two contests. The Threshers will conclude the three-game set with the Manatees on Sunday with a 1 p.m. first pitch. The pitching match-up will feature a pair of FSL North All-Stars, as Mark Leiter, Jr. (3-1) takes the hill against Jorge Ortega (5-4). The call can be heard live on the Threshers Broadcast Network starting at 12:45 p.m. Brevard County Box Score Game 1 Wei-Chung Wang not effective again. He pitched all or part of six innings, none of them clean. The only two innings that he failed to give up runs, he got double plays to help get out of the jam. Mark Williams worked a 4 out save for the Manatees. Wang gave up 8 hits and 3 walks. The Threshers had hit 17 home runs on the season as a team. They hit 3 off of Wang in less than 6 innings here. Cameron Garfield was the main offensive star going 3 for 3 with 2 runs and 3 RBI's. Game 1 Game Log Game 2 Box Score Brandon Woodruff was also hit hard in the nightcap. Final line: 5 IP, 9 H, 6 R, 2 BB, 2 K, 5/5 GO/AO. He is not generally effective unless he gets more ground balls than that.
