  1. From FSL Transactions: It looks like Hiram Burgos has been transferred to Biloxi. Eric Marzec moves from Biloxi to Brevard County. I assume Clint Terry will take Burgos' spot in the rotation.
  2. Mentioned in the Manatees' broadcast that Kaleb Earls has shoulder "soreness". Hopefully, it's not something serious.
  3. Shuckers drop rain-shortened rubber match on Friday night Orlando Arcia extended hitting streak to 7 games, Kyle Wren to 11 games Biloxi Shuckers 05/15/2015 11:45 PM ET http://www.milb.com/assets/images/2/5/6/124703256/cuts/DSC_0112_5ikfjcy7_48htv6d6.JPG JACKSON, TN - The Shuckers climbed back into Friday night's rubber match after falling behind, 4-0 in the first inning, but a late Jackson rally provided the Generals with an 8-6, eight-inning rain-shortened defeat. Jackson took three of five and handed the Shuckers their third consecutive series defeat, and leaves them winless in two attempts in rubber matches. Despite that, Biloxi remains atop the Southern League South Division at 20-15 on the inaugural season. Jorge Lopez (4 IP, 4 R, 6 H, 3 BB, 8 SO) got off to a rough start Friday night, allowing four runs in the first, but the Milwaukee Brewers' 15th-ranked prospect settled into a groove, tying a career high in strikeouts for a second straight outing with eight, including six in-a-row from the second through third innings. Biloxi rallied for three runs to tie the game at four in the fourth. Nick Ramirez (1x4, R) and Michael Reed (2x3, HR, RBI, 2 R, BB, SB) singled to lead off the frame and put runners on first and second for Nathan Orf (1x2), who put down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners into scoring position. Nick Shaw (1x4, R) followed with an RBI single to cut the Generals' lead in half at 4-2, and Parker Berberet (1x4) singled home Reed to bring the Shuckers within a run. Brandon Macias (1x2, RBI) lifted a sacrifice fly to center to plate Shaw and tie the game at four. Jackson responded with a three-spot of its own in the fifth off of reliever Wirfin Obispo (L, 0-3, IP, 3 R - 2 ER - 2 H, BB) needing just two hits and accumulating a hit-batter and a walk in the inning. The Generals added on a run in the sixth off of reliever Mike Strong (2 IP, R, 3 H, 3 SO) to open up a four-run lead again at 8-4. Orlando Arcia (1x4, HR, 2 RBI, R) extended his hitting streak (7G) and on-base streaks (17) in the seventh with his second long ball of the season, a two run shot to bring the Shuckers within two at 8-6. The 20-year-old shortstop was not the only Shucker to extend streaks. Kyle Wren (2x4) singled twice to tie the team-leading hit streak at 11 games, and his on-base streak to 16. Reed posted his third multi-hit game of the series and reached base safely 11 times over the five games. The Cedar Park, TX native is second on the club with a .308 batting average. Rain halted play with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning and after a 30-minute rain delay, the game was deemed official by the umpiring crew. Biloxi will head to Huntsville to host the Jacksonville Suns for a five-game series in four days. Game one will feature a matchup between RHP Brooks Hall (4-1, 2.19) and RHP Austin Brice (1-3, 7.18). First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m., with coverage beginning at 6:55 p.m. on 1240-AM WGCM, 1580-AM WPMO and the Biloxi Shuckers Radio Network. 6. Brevard County Loses Wild Game To Bradenton In 12 Victor Roache Homers Twice in 7-6 Loss Brevard County Manatees 05/15/2015 12:29 AM ET http://www.milb.com/assets/images/8/7/4/124496874/cuts/IMG_4782_yh2j5ku8_881zpdj1.JPG Victor Roache, pictured above, had four hits and two home runs in Thursday's loss. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) Viera, Fla. - The Bradenton Marauders (18-16) plated two runs in the 12th inning and survived in the bottom half of the frame in a 7-6 victory over the Brevard County Manatees (15-18) on Thursday at Space Coast Stadium. With the game tied at five after 11 innings, Wyatt Mathisen singled against Tristan Archer (1-1, 2.84 ERA) to start off the frame. Chris Diaz then sacrificed Mathisen up to second. Austin Meadows stepped up and hit a sharp liner up the middle. Shortstop Angel Ortega dove and knocked the ball down. Mathisen never stopped running and attempted to score. Ortega made a weak throw from his knees and Mathisen was called safe on a close play at the plate to give Bradenton the 6-5 lead. Meadows moved up to second on the throw. He finished 5-for-6 on the night with two runs and two RBI. Two batters later, Reese McGuire lined a single to center to plate Meadows and give Bradenton a two-run cushion. Brett McKinney came on for the save opportunity. Victor Roache greeted him rudely with an opposite field solo home run to right. It was Roache's second homer of the night and eighth of the season. McKinney retired Steven Halcomb, Rafael Neda and Cameron Garfield in order to end the game. He recorded his sixth save of the year. It appeared that the Manatees had won the game in the previous inning. With two on and one out, Taylor Brennan smacked a single to right-center field. Omar Garcia, who had singled to lead off the inning, tried to score the game-winning run. Jose Osuna's throw was strong and Garcia was called out on a questionable call at the plate. Garcia was immediately ejected after he was called out. Clint Coulter grounded out to second to end the threat. Since the Manatees had no position players left, pitcher Scott Lieser played right field in the 12th. Roache's first homer of the game forced the extra frames. Trailing by three in the bottom of the eighth, Chris McFarland and Brennan singled with nobody out. Two batters later, Roach launched a three-run, game-tying home run to right field. Brevard County opened the scoring in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by Brennan that scored Ortega. Bradenton took a 3-1 lead with a trio of runs in the fourth against starter Wei-Chung Wang. Justin Maffei hit an RBI double, Jacoby Jones recorded an RBI on sac fly and Jose Osuna singled home McGuire. Wang did not factor into the decision. He surrendered five runs - four earned - on eight hits in 6.1 innings. He walked one and struck out six. The Manatees got a run back in the bottom of fifth on a RBI by McFarland. He finished the game three hits, a walk, a run scored and an RBI. In the four-game series against Bradenton, he went 11-for-19 with four runs batted in. He raised his average from .268 to .310 in the series. The Marauders chased Wang in the seventh before scoring two runs to extend the lead to 5-2. After a single and a walk, Stephen Peterson came on in relief of Wang with one out. Meadows and Maffei both delivered RBI singles as Peterson allowed both inherited runners to score. Peterson pitched 3.2 innings and did not give up any runs of his own. Archer allowed just the two 12th-inning runs on four hits in his two innings of relief. Isaac Sanchez (1-0, 4.56 ERA) received the win, despite a shaky outing. He surrendered the game-tying homer to Roache in the eighth. Overall, he allowed three runs on nine hits and a walk in four innings. The Manatees will head to Tampa tomorrow to start a three-game series at George M. Steinbrenner Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. RHP Brandon Woodruff (0-1, 5.54 ERA) will start for the Manatees. The Yankees will send RHP Gabriel Encinas (0-0, 3.38 ERA) to the hill. 7. Florida Today story: Manatees fall in 12th despite Roache’s big night Staff report 11:10 p.m. EDT May 14, 2015 Victor Roache tied the game in the bottom of the eighth inning but it was not enough as Bradenton defeated Brevard County 7-6 in 12 innings Thursday night. Roache kept the Manatees alive with his second home run of the game in the bottom of the 12th, but Brevard still fell short. Bradenton’s Austin Meadows had five hits, including an RBI single in the 12th to give them the lead. Reese McGuire’s RBI single later in the inning ended up being the game winner. Roache finished with four hits as he was a triple short of the cycle. Teammates Chris McFarland and Taylor Brennan each had three hits. Tristan Archer suffered the loss, giving up two runs in two innings. Brevard County will travel to Tampa looking to snap a two-game losing streak. Brandon Woodruff will take the mound for the Manatees looking for his first win of the season. Gabriel Encinas will start for Tampa.
  8. Arcia, Wren extend streaks, but Shuckers shutout 2-0 The loss forces the rubber match of the set on Friday night Biloxi Shuckers 05/14/2015 11:37 PM ET http://www.milb.com/assets/images/7/0/2/124489702/cuts/_BRP6034_ss0lvju8_lgn9ems2.jpg Kyle Wren extended his hitting streak to 10 games on Thursday night (Benton Reed Photography) JACKSON, TN - A day after scoring 14 runs and pounding out 20 hits, the Shuckers were shutout by the Jackson Generals Thursday night at the Ballpark at Jackson, 2-0. The loss forces a rubber match in game five on Friday night. Despite the loss, Kyle Wren extended his hitting streak to nine games and Orlando Arcia pushed his streak to six games. Biloxi went 11-for-19 with runners in scoring position Wednesday, but Thursday had its struggles, stranding 10 aboard and going hitless in six scoring opportunities. The Shuckers still remain atop the Southern League South Division by a game over the Mobile BayBears. After five scoreless innings in West Tennessee, the Generals (13-18) grabbed the lead in the bottom of the sixth when Hobs Johnson (5.1 IP, 2 R, 7 H, 2 BB, 5 SO) hit Jabari Blash to start the frame and Jordy Lara singled to put two on with nobody out. Gabriel Guerrero attempted to put down a sacrifice bunt, but Nick Ramirez (0x3, B) forced out Blash at third. Dan Paolini followed with a RBI double to bring in Lara and give the Generals a 1-0 lead. Austin Ross (1.2 IP, H) relieved the left-handed starter, who left in the sixth and got Zack Shank to fly out to right field. On the play, Guerrero tagged from third and scored, but Paolini was thrown out at second to end the inning. Biloxi (20-14) had a chance to tie the game in the ninth when Adam Weisenburger (0x1, BB, HBP) was hit by a pitch to lead things off, but a double play off the bat of Nick Shaw ended any potential rally before Kyle Wren (2x4, BB) grounded out to end the game. Wren's performance extended his hitting streak to 10 games, which is the third-longest actively in the league. Orlando Arcia (1x4, 2B) tallied his 10th double of the year with two outs in the third to put runners on second and third and extend his hitting streak to six games. Biloxi sends out RHP Jorge Lopez (3-2, 2.70) in the rubber match on Friday night, whom they have won his last four starts after dropping his first two. Jackson has not announced its game five starter. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m., with coverage beginning at 6:50 p.m. on 1240-AM WGCM, 1580-AM WPMO and the Biloxi Shuckers Radio Network. Fans can also listen to the game using the TuneIn Radio app or by going to www.biloxishuckers.com. Biloxi Box Score Biloxi Game Log
  9. Manatees lose after they stranded men in scoring position three innings in a row, any one of which would have won the game. Roache was 4-6. After striking out his first two at bats, he had a single, double and two home runs. The first home run came in the eighth inning with two aboard to tie the game. Clint Coulter is now in a huge slump. Chris McFarland was 11-19 in the series to bump his batting average up to .310. I will have the link report in the early morning along with Biloxi.
  10. Roache has now hit 2 home runs since the double Homer mentioned. Still need another run to tie in the bottom of the 12th though.
  11. Manatees better end it here. Omar Garcia called out at the plate and then got run by the umpire. They have used all of the bench. I guess a pitcher would have to play the outfield if the game continues. Close call but it's yet another baserunning blunder by the Manatees. Men on 1st and 2nd and one out, they sent Garcia on a single by Brennan and he was called out at the plate. Coulter then grounded out for the 3rd out. Clint 0-4 with 3 K's with men in scoring position in this game. Scott Leiser now playing right in the 12th.
  12. Garrett Cooper apparently left with a chest cold, not an injury. Good news for once.
  13. Garrett Cooper pinch hit for in the 6th inning. Injury?
  14. Mark Williams has not been added to the roster for this game. Kaleb Earls, who left with shoulder problems yesterday might be put on the DL. Just speculation though.
  15. Bradenton Blanks Brevard County Duncan Tosses Seven Shutout Innings By Dave Walkovic / Brevard County Manatees 05/13/2015 2:33 PM ET http://www.milb.com/assets/images/9/3/4/124148934/cuts/MarFarland_3_jev127gp_3v1l2auy.JPG Chris McFarland, pictured above, recorded two hits in Brevard County's loss on Wednesday. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) Viera, Fla. - The Bradenton Marauders (17-16) received a dominant pitching performance from starter Frank Duncan in a 5-0 victory over the Brevard County Manatees (15-17) on Wednesday at Space Coast Stadium. Duncan (3-1, 4.03 ERA) shut out the Manatees over seven innings and allowed just four hits to pick up the victory. He did not walk a batter and struck out eight. The Marauders opened the scoring in the fifth against Hiram Burgos (2-4, 4.12 ERA). The leadoff man, Jacoby Jones, reached on a single to center and advanced to second on a fielding error by Clint Coulter. Erich Weiss then singled home Jones to make it 1-0 Bradenton. Bradenton blew the game open in the next inning. After a walk and a single put runners on the corners with nobody out, Austin Meadows doubled to right to plate Diaz and move Michael Fransoso up to third. Barrett Barnes then singled on a liner to right field to plate Fransoso. The runners advanced to second and third on the throw home. Barnes' single made it 3-0 Bradenton and ended Burgos' outing. Kaleb Earls entered from the bullpen. Jin-De Jhang recorded on RBI on a grounder and Jones drove in a run on a sacrifice fly to complete the scoring. The Marauders scored four runs on three hits and a walk in the fifth. When the inning was over, Burgos was hit with five runs - four earned - on five hits. He threw five complete innings and did not record an out in the sixth. Burgos walked one and fanned six. Earls retired five batters and allowed just one hit in a scoreless outing. He struck out two. He was removed from the ballgame with an undisclosed injury in the seventh inning. Scott Lieser pitched 2.1 perfect innings in relief of Earls. The Manatees recorded just four hits in the game, two by Chris McFarland. He now has eight hits in the series in 15 at-bats and has raised his batting average to .297 on the year. The two clubs will wrap up the four-game series tomorrow. The Manatees will send LHP Wei-Chung Wang (1-1, 5.93 ERA) to the bump as Brevard County attempts to salvage a series split. LHP Steven Brault (1-0, 4.56 ERA) will get the call for Bradenton. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. at Space Coast Stadium.
  16. Bradenton 5, Brevard County 0 Manatees could muster only 4 hits, 2 by Chris McFarland. Hiram Burgos started well but could not get out of the 6th. Brevard County Box Score Brevard County Game Log Story to follow when available.

  18. Brevard County Beats Bradenton in 11 McFarland the Hero for the Manatees By Dave Walkovic / Brevard County Manatees 05/13/2015 12:04 AM ET http://www.milb.com/assets/images/9/9/4/124065994/cuts/McFarland_7wookl40_gtu38cx0.JPG Chris McFarland hit a game-winning single in the 11th inning on Tuesday night. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) Viera, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees (15-16) received a clutch hit from Christopher McFarland in the 11th inning on Tuesday night in a 5-4 win over the Bradenton Marauders (16-16) at Space Coast Stadium. Tied at four in the bottom of the 11th, Omar Garcia pushed a bunt single to lead things off. After Cameron Garfield bunted into a force out, Steven Halcomb grounded one to second. Garfield was retired at second base, but a good takeout slide allowed Halcomb to reach first with two outs. Angel Ortega then singled to bump Halcomb up to second. McFarland stepped up and lined a single into center field to score Halcomb and win the game for the Manatees. Brevard County held a 4-1 lead after five innings, but Bradenton scored single runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth to tie the game at four. Edwin Espinal hit a two-out RBI single to center to score Jose Osuna in the sixth against Jorge Ortega. Ortega did not factor into the decision. He allowed two runs - one earned - on six hits over six innings. He walked two and struck out three. Jacoby Jones hit an RBI single in the seventh and Austin Meadows delivered an RBI base hit in the eighth for Bradenton. Clint Coulter opened the scoring with an opposite field, solo homer in the bottom of the first. Coulter leads the Florida State League in home runs (8) and RBI (25). After Bradenton scored a run in the top of the second, the Manatees responded with a pair in the bottom of the frame. With one out, Jose Pena slapped a single to right. Halcomb singled as well to put runners on first and second. Ortega loaded the bases with a single to right field. McFarland lashed a base knock up the middle. All of the runners moved up 90 feet. Taylor Brennan then bounced into a fielder's choice that allowed Halcomb to scored from third. Brevard County led, 3-1. The Manatees added another run in the fourth when Pena singled, stole second and scored on a Halcomb RBI single. Tristan Archer was the first man out of the bullpen for Brevard County. He surrendered two runs on three hits and a walk in 1.1 innings. Trevor Seidenberger did not allow a run on two hits in his two innings of work. Preston Gainey (1-0, 0.00 ERA) received the win. He pitched 1.2 scoreless innings. Andy Otamendi (2-3, 5.40 ERA) allowed the McFarland hit in the 11th and was hit with the loss. The Manatees and Marauders will play at 10:35 a.m. on Wednesday morning. RHP Hiram Burgos (2-3, 3.67 ERA) will start for Brevard County. Bradenton will send RHP Frank Duncan (2-1, 4.94 ERA) to the hill. Brevard County Box Score Brevard County Game Log Chris McFarland and Angel Ortega with 3 hits apiece. Clint Coulter played CF in this game. Manager's decision since Omar Garcia came in as a pinch runner in the game. Tristan Archer gave up his first runs of the season. Trevor Seidenberger and Preston Gainey have yet to give up a run out of the bullpen this year.
  19. Manatees going to the 11th. I will do the link report over night.
  20. Clint Coulter playing in CF tonight. I wasn't expecting that! He homers in the 1st inning.
  21. The 15-55 '73 Newark team at .214, I think is the worst ever record by a Brewers' affiliate. The '08 Arizona Brewers were 13-42 (.236). The Timber Rattlers are trending in that direction. If they lose today they are at .250 for the season. Not that records matter much at this level.
  22. Mayo Mock Draft Brewers take HS outfielder Garrett Whitley.
  23. Marauders Hold Off Manatees, 7-6 Both Teams Score Five Runs in the First By Dave Walkovic / Brevard County Manatees 05/11/2015 11:21 PM ET http://www.milb.com/assets/images/5/8/0/123834580/cuts/IMG_3296_bady9xrs_2hvkjajs.JPG Garrett Cooper, seen above, collected two hits, two RBI and a walk in Monday night's loss. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) Viera, Fla. - The Bradenton Marauders (16-15) and Brevard County Manatees (14-16) each scored five runs in the first inning before the Marauders escaped with a 7-6 victory on Monday night at Space Coast Stadium. Austin Meadows started the game with an infield single against Javi Salas. After a wild pitch, Barrett Barnes hit a sharp grounder to third that couldn't be handled by Taylor Brennan to put runners on the corners. Brennan was charged with an error. Two batters later, Jacoby Jones lined a single to left to plate Meadows and open the scoring. Erich Weiss then singled to load the bases. Jose Osuna stepped up and cleared the bases with a double down the right field line and made it 4-0 Bradenton. Osuna moved to third on the throw to the plate. The next batter, Jin-De Jhang, lined a single up the middle to score Osuna and complete the first-inning scoring for the Marauders. The Brevard County bats came out hot in the bottom half of the frame. Christopher McFarland beat out a grounder to short to start things off. Brennan then singled to center and moved McFarland to third. Two batters later, Victor Roache singled home McFarland to put the Manatees on the board. With runners on first and second, Garrett Cooper doubled to left. Both Brennan and Roache scored to trim the deficit to two. Cameron Garfield then ripped a single to center and scored Cooper. Steven Halcomb drew a walk to put two runners on. The next batter, Angel Ortega, hit a long drive to right that was tracked down by Osuna. Garfield moved up to third on the fly out. Omar Garcia, the ninth man to bat in the inning, pushed a bunt up the first base line. The Bradenton starter, Cody Dickson, fielded the ball, but no one covered first. It was an RBI single for Garcia and tied the game at five. The bunt single ended Dickson's night after he recorded just two outs. Both teams scored five runs on six hits in the first inning. Salas would settle down. He did not allow any more runs after the first and lasted five innings. Salas did not factor into the decision. He surrendered five runs - four earned runs - on eight hits and a walk. He struck out four. Felipe Gonzalez (2-3, 4.26 ERA) replaced Dickson in the first and tossed 4.1 shutout innings of relief. Bradenton captured the lead again in the sixth against Clint Terry (0-1, 2.89 ERA). With two outs, Wyatt Mathisen singled to center. Meadows then ripped a triple to right-center and gave the Marauders the advantage again. Terry then uncorked a wild pitch to give Bradenton a two-run cushion. The Manatees battled back in the eighth with Isaac Sanchez on the hill. With one out, Halcomb smoked a double into the left-center field gap. Two batters later, Garcia walked. McFarland then singled to left to plate Halcomb. With two outs, Sanchez threw a wild pitch to put runners on second and third. Sanchez retired Brennan on a grounder to short to end the threat. Brett McKinney allowed a two-out single to Cooper in the ninth, but retired Garfield to record his fifth save of the season. The Marauders and Manatees will continue the series tomorrow in Viera. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. RHP Jorge Ortega (3-2, 3.00 ERA) will start for Brevard County. The Marauders will send RHP Matt Benedict (3-1, 1.93 ERA) to the bump.
  24. Bradenton 7, Brevard County 6 A lot of fireworks early and not much later. The Marauders put up 5 runs in the 1st. Javi Salas could easily have gotten out of this inning with no damage. Austin Meadows led off with a chopper to second but Steve Halcomb could not throw him out. The second hitter hit a ground ball to third that got by Taylor Brennan for an error. After getting the third hitter on a popup, Salas gave up 4 straight hits. The Manatees followed with a 5 run inning of their own in the bottom of the first. 6 players got base hits for the Manatees in the inning. Salas then threw 4 scoreless innings before he had to leave after the 5th. Clint Terry got the first two hitters of the sixth out before giving up a single to Wyatt Mathisen after Mathisen fouled off several strike two pitches. Austin Meadows (1st pick of the Pirates in 2013 and 9th overall) then tripled in Mathisen and scored on a wild pitch. The Manatees got one back in the 8th on a Steve Halcomb double and a Chris McFarland RBI single. They left men on 2nd and 3rd and couldn't get anything going in the 9th. Clint Coulter took a size 5 collar in this one. He was the only Manatee who failed to reach base at least once. Chris McFarland and Victor Roache each had 3 hits. Brevard County Box Score Brevard County Game Log I will add the game story in a separate post overnight.
  25. Bradenton batting around in the first. In case you're wondering what game to listen to. Edit: Manatees have now batted around in the 1st. Bradenton going to the bullpen already.
