  1. Spectacular move for the Twins. I would have loved this as our secondary addition behind the headliner SP we pick up.
  2. Padres land Hosmer
  3. This would have been the equivalent of barely our 30th ranked prospect.
  4. This would have been a great addition for us at a bargain bin price. Tampa is having a full fire sale. I hope Stearns is working tonight because teams are going to get some great deals.
  5. One less stop for Arrieta but one less pitcher available to us. So far that return seems light but I'm assuming there is more?
  6. I have no knowledge here but I'm wondering if there isn't something off the field in play here. We have a lot of access to numbers but very little on them as people.
  7. We aren't anywhere near the Cubs until we add someone big to the rotation as Cobb is a robin not a batman. Cain and Yelich help the offense that was 10th in the NL last year but we are also apparently losing Santana who was our best offensive player. I'm expecting we sign Cobb and make a blockbuster for an Archer or a Fulmer.
  8. I must have been living in a cave but Maldonado won the golf glove at catcher. Well at least we still have Bandy. Facepalm
  9. We won't be getting much of anything for Thames or Auguilar. They are worth more to us a two headed 1B once we clear the OF mess than they would on the open market.
  10. Two catchers is plenty. Back up catchers are cheap and plentiful.
  11. If Luc would come back at a 2 years $12M total or so then you add him and make Pina the back up. Pina played really well last year but you have to assume that was a pleasant surprise not a career arc. Vogt has virtually no value and no one would miss him.
  12. A steal? Garcia gets 10 million and he hasn't been good since 2015. Definitely not a steal but only a one year contract so you pay a bit of a premium for that.
  13. Which was decided today per Heyman. Odorizzi won. Good question and could be good news for teams wanting him given the Rays are supposedly trying to clear payroll. Made this assumption a bit back. If he's going year to year in Arb the decision in Odorizzi's favor would mean an expected increase on salary in the future than if he lost. And I'd imagine a team's trade offer being a B prospect vs a C prospect type of affect(not the headliner prospect in the deal) Take the Jakes in our system, maybe Gatewood if he lost, or Nottingham if he won. If we land a guy who was a 3 WAR player in 15 and 16 for Jake Nottingham I will truly be impressed. Actually if we can get a door stop for Nottingham I will be impressed.
  14. 812 runs is a huge jump from their production last season - basically their projection indicates they're going to slug their way to alot of wins as currently constructed. Cubs at 95 now with Darvish on their roster is realistic. Brewers adding another solid rotation piece would likely bump their projection in this system up closer to 90. Slugging out of it is right! He has Santana as our full time RF with Braun as our 4th OF/1B. Wow look at that pitching! If Stearns sees anything like this with his projections no wonder Boras is licking his chops. What a mess.
  15. Couldn't agree more, I'd slam on the brakes hard on Salazar at this point. I might consider Santana for him plus some significant value...but he loses a lot of value for me with the injury. Salazar should be completely off the Brewers radar. He will spend more time in the training table than on the mound.
  16. 2017 4.6 bWAR and 1.9 fWAR gets $8M per year.
  17. One of many issues baseball needs to fix.
  18. This is a nothing deal like a NFL deal where it looks better on paper than in reality. Probably more for his agents PR but regardless it's a camp fodder signing. The Brewers did not spend $80M and give up 5 prospects on positions they didn't need so they could fill their rotation with a guy with a 1.72 WHIP. 4 of our starters would literally need TJS in March for Miley to ever see our MLB roster.
  19. This guy has no chance of making the MLB roster and even less than that to start 29 games in his contract. Truly nothing to see here.
  20. I think you value chicken salad more highly than I do. Stearns really handcuffed our pitching staff with his moves, and still DJ and CC turned the staff and in particular the rotation into something like the 10th best in baseball. That's pretty darn impressive. Yeah chicken salad won't get you to the World Series but it wasn't the tank team Sterns gave them either.
  21. You always bring in arms to eat up innings here and there. He won't make the team but it's nice to give him a chance to throw for other teams down the road. All teams do it.
  22. Very cool analysis. Every team in the league has this information and every team in the league is in the market for starting pitching to one degree or another. Moneyball changed the game from old guys with radar guns and stop watches to piles of data. Our edge is CC and DJ who have turned chicken stuff into chicken salad.
  23. If Cain and Yelich were on sale then I'd sure hate to see what they would cost if they weren't. Cain in particular has a no trade clause so he is worthless as an asset unless he is playing at a high level for a team that is all in the next two years. If the window was longer, you'd just let our young guys develop instead of bringing on a 32 year old at a super premium cost. Stearns gave up pretty much everyone but Ueker to acquire two outfielders we didn't really need unless we were truly going to go for a WS title. We haven't done enough to get us there and we have a roster that makes no sense, which is why more will happen. I do think we will pick up Arrieta or Cobb and we will likely trade our remaining top prospects for an Archer type either this spring or if they see Nelson can't come back to 2017 levels from a very difficult injury at the deadline. No half measures.
  24. If they don't make a big move in the rotation (they will) then they should have just let our young outfielders develop.
  25. Cobb is just a guy, but he is available, relatively low cost, and would be our number 3 and a decent insurance policy if Nelson can't return to form. I still think there is an Archer/Fulmer deal coming after the Cobb move, because Nelsons injury doesn't have a great history. Cobb by himself just makes us a decent team that can challenge for a WC, not become a serious WS team.
