  1. Bottom line is they have gained some much needed flexibility going forward. Nice move as far as I'm concerned.
  2. Ennis could end up being a solid contributor once he gets some experience/minutes. I also like the fact they got two young PGs who will cost the Bucks less than half what Knight will cost next season. This will give them more cap space to resign Middleton and free agents in the offseason.
  3. Here is my edited roster for 2015/16 based on this new development. Carter-Williams - $2.5M Bayless - $3M Ennis - $1.75M Matthews - $11M (4yr/$50M) Middleton - $7M (3yr/$24M) Antetekounmpo - $2M Dudley - $4.25M Inglis - $750K Parker - $5M O'Bryant - $750K Henson - $3M Monroe - $15M (4yr/$66M) Pachullia - $5M Plumlee - $2M Mid 1st Rd Pick (Slot 15-18) - $1.5M 2nd Rd Pick - $750K Sanders (Stretch Provision) - $2M This puts thier payroll at $67.25M which allows a little extra room if they need to go up some to sign either Matthews or Monroe. Starting Lineup: Carter-Williams, Matthews, Giannis, Parker, Monroe Bench: Bayless, Ennis, Middleton, Dudley, Inglis, Henson, O'Bryant, Pachullia, Plumlee, 2015 draft picks
  4. It sounds like we are getting all three players which would be a decent haul for Knight.
  5. We get two younger and less expensive PGs who Kidd and Hammonds probably think fit in better with their long term plans.
  6. Nevermind, on my original plan. It looks like Knight just got traded to the Suns in exchange for Michael Carter-Williams and Tyler Ennis. http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2015/02/acquire-brandon-knight.html
  7. What do you think Middleton could get on the open market? My best guess would be a 3yr/$24M deal. If they can unload Mayo and Ersan, if is very likely they could afford to keep him along with signing Knight, Matthews and Monroe. Here's my payroll breakdown for 2016 with the roster I provided above: Knight - $10M (5yr/$60M) Bayless - $3M Matthews - $11M (4yr/$50M) Middleton - $7M (3yr/$24M) Antetekounmpo - $2M Dudley - $4.25M Inglis - $750K Parker - $5M O'Bryant - $750K Henson - $3M Monroe - $15M (4yr/$66M) Pachullia - $5M Mid 1st Rd Pick (Slot 15-18) - $1.5M 2nd Rd Pick - $750K FA Veteran - League Minimum Sanders (Stretch Provision) - $2M This brings their payroll to $71M minus the FA veteran which wouldn't count against the salary cap. The projected salary cap for the 2015/16 season should be around $68-$69M which puts us slightly over. I'm not sure what the penalty is for being over or if the Bucks can use their mid-level or bi-annual exceptions to get them back under the cap. Otherwise they could look to trade Bayless and add another league minimum player to get under the cap. Not sure if those contract numbers are enough to attract Matthews and Monroe.
  8. If we do not trade for another guard, I would like the Bucks to make a run at signing Wesley Matthews. He is a local kid who grew up in Madison and played at Marquette. His shooting will help open up the lane for Knight, Gainnis and Parker and he is a solid defender. If we can sign him to a contract in the 4yr/$50M range and trade Mayo for the extra payroll space I would be stoked. Payroll would be tight if they extend Knight and Middleton along with signing Matthews and Monroe as free agents but thier roster would be very solid from top to bottom. Starting Lineup: Knight, Matthews, Gainnis, Parker and Monroe Bench: Bayless, Middleton, Dudley, Inglis, Henson, O'Bryant, Pachulia and 2015 draft picks)
  9. The only problem with trading for Monroe is you are now having to give up an asset or two on top of his extension to get him. Ersan can still fetch them another asset which could be in addition to signing Monroe.
  10. I agree. Maybe the plan is to then trade him for more assets. Otherwise, would Kidd start both Lawson and Knight or have Knight be the first player off the bench as an offensive sparkplug?
  11. Henson won't be a RFA until after the 2015/16 season. Also you do not need to trade for Monroe. He is a UFA after this season. I really think he can be the passing center Kidd is looking for and shouldn't cost more than $11-12M per to sign.
  12. Looks like the Bucks are only willing to trade Henson if the return is a top notch PG like Lawson or Jackson. Not sure how I feel about this unless the plan is to either trade for a different big (i.e. Kanter) or sign a mid-level ($12M AAV) free agent big in the offseason (Monroe, Chandler or Milsap). Chandler would be a very interesting option based on his defensive and rebounding abilities. http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2015/02/dangle-henson-ilyasova.html
  13. Not sure about his health status but if healthy he would provide them with a solid defensive, switch hitting, proven back up for both Segura and Gennett. I'm not saying they should do it but the risk would be low if he's signed to a minor league deal and simply brought in to compete with Gomez and Herrera.
  14. Personally, I see no reason not to add a couple more bullpen arms on minor league deals for depth. Relievers tend to be fairly inconsistent, especially middle relievers. DM seems to find solid contributors off the scrap heap on a regular basis (i.e. Duke, Henderson, Axford, Jeffress, Coffey, Torres, Turnbow, Wise, Kolb and Loe). Hopefully DM add another couple high upside arm like Adams, Burnett or Lindstrom to compete for a bullpen spot in spring training. It definitely wouldn't hurt.
  15. Not many players left out there who are intriguing. I believe only K-Rod, Beachy and Chamberlain are worth a major league deal at this point. I would consider Furcal, Cabrera, Viciedo, Corriea, Morales, Adams, Lindstrom, Coke and Burnett on minor league deals.
  16. Yes if any team picked him up off of waivers they would be responsible for his entire salary.
  17. Cotts splits against lefties isn't that great, much better against righties. I see Smith being over used like last year. Based on his splits last season, it is very possible DM nd RR are planning for Smith to primarily face lefties which would limit his innings and overall usage this season.
  18. Minor league signings start to pick up once we start getting into February. I think DM will continue his trend of adding veterans on minor league contracts. One player I would be interested in signing is Scott Hairston. He plays both corner outfield spots and second base, is a good clubhouse guy like his brother and can provide some righthanded power off the bench (20HR in 2012, 10HR in 2013).
  19. Based on the number of potential late innings relievers already on the roster (Broxton, Henderson, Thornburg, Jeffress and potentially another closer yet to be signed/aquired) and his splits last season, Smith could also be used strictly against lefties. Not sure if DM and RR had this in mind when they signed Cotts since he appears to perform better versus righties. Also like others have mentioed DM could still sign another lefty to a minor league deal before spring training. Either way its still a low risk signing which has a minimal impact on the team.
  20. I'm really surprised by this move. Herrera put up good numbers last season while playing all over the field. I thought there were lesser playerson the roster to option (i.e. Hall, Wooten, Peterson and Schafer). I hope he clears waivers but I'm not confident he will.
  21. Here are all four players stats from 2014 per Fangraphs. Player: ERA: / FIP: / K/9: / BB/9: / Holds: / GB%: / IP: Cotts 4.52 / 3.58 / 8.51 / 3.11 / 19 / 34.7% / 66.2 Coke 3.88 / 3.98 / 6.36 / 3.10 / 5 / 55.6% / 58.0 Thatcher 3.86 / 3.43 / 8.01 / 1.19 / 6 / 34.4% / 30.1 Maholm 4.84 / 4.96 / 4.33 / 3.57 / 0 / 54.4% / 70.2 (8 starts) Based on these numbers I would consider Cotts to be the most well rounded option. I did not realize his K/9 rate was so high. Coke has struggled the past couple seasons and shouldn't be counted on to produce like he did earlier in his career. Maholm would be seviceable at best as a starter (see Gorzelanny in 2013) while Thatcher is considered a true loogy meaning he would only be counted on to pitch less than 40 innings.
  22. This was a signing that needed to take place. We couldn't go into spring training with Smith, Willis and Storng as our only lefthanded reliever options. Cotts will be serviceable at worst with the potential to be lights out like he showed in 2013. I think $3 million is a little steep (thought we could sign him or Thatcher for $2 million tops) but its not a terrible overpay. The only moves I want DM to make are sign/trade for a late innings reliever (K-Rod, Soriano or Papelbon) and a back end starter on a minor league deal for depth (Beachy, Maholm, Morales, Ogando or Chen).
  23. Once or if he proves to be healthy I would have him pitching the 7th. 7th - Henderson 8th - Broxton 9th - K-Rod With Smith being used as a late inning, situational lefty would be a solid back end of the bullpen.
  24. Still hoping we can allocate a couple million dollars to sign Beachy for depth. Add in a team option for 2016 and he could bolster our rotation at mid season and replace Lohse in 2016. For $2M or less, this is a low risk, high reward move for the Brewers which could result in an additional 2-3 wins next season.
