  1. Looks like this deal is not yet finalized. I'm curious what the Phillies will be getting in return.
  2. What about trading Davis to the Royals for one of their three late inning relievers, perhaps Holland or Davis? This could be a win-win situation for DM and MA since they are filling a need without creating a new one. Just a thought.
  3. I guess it wouldn't hurt to see what he could land the team. It's kind of hard to value players right now. I guess if a team really likes him they might overpay. It all comes down to whatever you can get. There's also the long term question about how to cover OF in the future. Parra and a guy like Denorfia would probably be adequate for 2015. Beyond that, there's more questions. Coulter is likely an option down the road, but he hasn't even played past low A ball, so to count on him just yet is a bit much to ask. Also, I believe Davis would have 5 full years of control. We could look into signing a stop gap player like Aoki this offseason or Victorino the following year to get us through 2016 and possibly part of 2017 until Taylor and Coulter are ready to step in. After checking you are correct about Davis having 5 more years of team control. This could make him extremely appealing since he has already shown 20+ HR power over the course of a full season. I bet he would net the Brewers a solid return.
  4. Based on the lack of RH power hitters, would it be worth looking into trading Davis for something of value to help us in the future? We can plug Parra into either LF or RF depending on where RRR prefers to play Braun and also sign a player like Chris Denorfia to back up both corner OF spots. Teams looking for RH power bats are the Royals, Mariners, Giants, Padres, Rangers and Cubs. What type of return could Khris net us in a trade and is it worth losing 4 years of team control?
  5. The Astros just got two solid late inning relievers for the same AAV the White Sox are paying Robertson. Great moves by Houston.
  6. Until Bryant is promoted and rakes i will hold off on calling him a top 10 hitter. For every Ryan Braun their are a few Corey Patterson, Lastings Milledge, Sean Burroughs, Dimitri Young and Brandon Wood stories. Personally I can see why people are excited about Bryant's future but you only need to look at another Cub, mMike Olt to see how fast things can unravel for an untouchable "can't miss" prospect. Although based on the sheer number of young high ceiling players the Cubs currently control you have to assume some will definitely pan out.
  7. I was hoping DM would have signed Neshek especially at this price. My guess is we will resign K-Rod for a similar AAV once he realizes he won't get much more on the open market although this is not what i want to happen.
  8. I'm ok with trading Parra if the return is decent, but would prefer to sign someone like Edny Chavez who offers a better bat than Schafer especially if his salary is around or under $1.5M. The other option is to sign Bonifacio who can back up CF and platoon with Gennett although he will be more costly.
  9. I would be happy if we can make the playoffs this season and grab Andrew Harrison somewhere between 15-20 since his stock has dropped this season. He could be our starting PG and cause match up issues for opposing teams.
  10. It depends on who our 5th OF is. If they keep Herrera on the roster he would be the back up. If we need someone to replace Segura during a game, RR would likely bring Gennett in to play 2B and shift Cabrera to SS. Besides it sounds like Beckham is looking for a starting gig before he even considers a back up position the Brewers are offering. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/12/al-west-notes-gregerson-astros-beckham-wilson.html
  11. I'm not sure how well defensively Beckham would be playing SS for any extended period of time. As much as i like Beckham I would prefer someone who can play both 2B and SS like Cabrera since we have multiple options (Rogers and Jimenez) who can back up 1B and 3B. I would prefer we have a solid defensive back up for SS since Segura struggled last year.
  12. Personally I would prefer to trade Lohse because I think the Brewers will extend Gallardo a qualifying offer after 2015. I could see a Cecchini and Craig for Lohse and Lopez/Jungmann deal, with the Boston throwing in $5-8M, working out for both sides.
  13. I think having capable and versatile bench players minimizes its effect on a team over the course of a full season. Having a starting caliber player like Parra as our 4th outfielder helps. If we can find a couple more players like Blanks/Mayberry Jr and Cabrera/Beckham I will be extremely happy heading into spring training.
  14. Good points. The windows should have provided a view of the city's skyline to increase the overall ambiance.
  15. The Badgers didn't seem to use as many shot fakes as they normally do to draw contact. I think Dekker is more suited for an uptempo offense where is athleticism can be better utilized. Although I think Keith Van Horn is a good comparison.
  16. I agree. Getting Shane Greene (Not even considered a top 20 prospect for the Yankees) for Robbie Ray (Detriot's #2 ranked prospect) doesn't seem like a good deal. Ray has a much higher ceiling than Greene.
  17. I left the game feeling good about how Kaminsky outperformed Okafor and Jackson stepped up in the second half. We were able to get plenty of open looks/shots but just couldn't get them to fall like in previous games while Duke was hitting contested shots the entire game. Sulaimon and Davis come to mind as players who kept coming up big when they needed a basket. For us to be in the game up until the lfinal minutes with two of our top contributors (Dekker and Hayes) having off nights I am convinced we can compete with any team in the country. This was a good test for them and i still think we came out of it with a solid grade.
  18. You're right that is crazy. It's about 3/4 of what Headley really should get. He projects at 3.9 wins next year. So for four year you would expect something like 3.9, 3.4, 2.9, 2.4 wins for a total of 12.6 wins. At $7 million per win that should be a $85-90 million contract. You need to remember that most of his value comes from his defense not his offensive production which is what adds $$$ to their AAV. Power and pitching are what teams consider valuable not speed and defense. So a 4yr/$65M deal for a 3B with below average power is considered high. And I'm a big Headley fan. who wanted the Brewers to sign him albeit not at that price.
  19. My thought was that the Mets were not just looking for a salary dump when trading Niese so we would need to sweeten the pot since Segura was coming off a down year. I know Niese is more of a mid-rotation pitcher but thought he would provide the Brewers with a consistent left handed starter who would be under team control for up to four years and DM could fill our new hole at SS with a high ceiling and potential lead off player like Cabrera. Although you probably are right that Segura would be enough.
  20. 4 year/$44M deal. Looks like the market for JUpton is starting to heat up thanks to his current team. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/12/braves-to-sign-nick-markakis.html
  21. It wasn't just the PED suspension. He also got a DUI. Maybe the Padres simply do not want to be associated with players caught using PEDs. Also Cabrera was only projected to earn $2.9M in arbitration next season. I think if the Brewers offer him a 2 year deal and regular playing time (i.e. starting at 2B against LHP and at SS against tough RHP) he could be interested. Cabrera should easily get 450 PA.
  22. He is the perfect platoon mate for Lind and provides more versatility than someone like Gaby Sanchez since he can also play corner outfield.
  23. Cabrera could be a solid pick up if he can be had for 2yrs/$5M. I think he fills a couple needs for the Brewers. 1. Platoon mate for Scooter (Or allows Segura to play 2B). 2. Provides insurance at SS if Segura fails to progress towards his early 2013 form. Adding Cabrera and Kyle Blanks would make me one very happy fan.
  24. Hunter’s contract contains a full no-trade clause, per Jon Heyman of CBS Sports
  25. I would look to trade either Gallardo or Lohse for the best package of prospects they can get. Then trade Segura and Lopez for Niese. And finally sign Everth Cabrera to a one year deal with a team option for 2016. The payroll will be similar although we now have added some additional prospects along with a lefty who can be controlled over the next 4 seasons for $37M ($7M, $9M, $10M, $11M). Cabrera would be a stopgap until Arcia is ready to step in and is only a year removed from being an All-Star caliber player just like Segura. This doesn't necessarily make the team better in 2015 although still very competitive but adds to the team's future.
