  1. Could see the Pirates as a sleeper team next year big time. The stats he put up here, but just overall their rotations is darn solid. Can make an argument for best in the division. They have to find one more good hitter somehow though and/or have Josh Bell get back to what he could be. I don't know where they'll get that hitter though. Put the Pirates pitchers and Reds hitters together and you have a WS contender.
  2. This will be laughable if they give this to Baez because of defense type justification after years of giving to Cabrera over Trout.
  3. So why announce it now? The Cards will just Move Carpenter out of the lead off spot. This seems senseless to me unless there is an underlying issue that isn't public. Then they can scratch it if that's the case. I don't know why it was announced, there is probably some standard time where teams are supposed to announce planned starters but its not like it locks them in. Most likely pushed by the gambling industry. Now, if Carpenter gets moved to 4th and they still start Jennings, then yea complain away. It's kind of weird, who has to show their hand first. Like do they hand the lineup card to the ump at the same time. otherwise it's a back and forth, if they move Carpenter we take Jennings out as starter and back and forth. So Cards manager might realize that and just leave Carpenter and play his normal way
  4. Because Carpenter is lefty to start the game. I figured since this was announced they'd start with Jennings or Cedeno. And I assumed Jennings because Cedeno is better and more capable of going a full inning later on. Wouldn't shock me if Jennings faced one batter. I don't if whoever posted that was speculating or if that's for sure or not. But that's what i've been thinking the whole time.
  5. If you lose any game it's a sign of a possible imminent collapse. You gotta call it right away so you can say you're right in case it happens.
  6. I'm watching both games. Packer game could be seriously different without the 3rd down dropped passes by good receivers. Rodgers gets a score and who knows. Really hope STL managers to blow their game today. give us a 3 game lead back
  7. Wow. Little league level there. I guess that's what they mean when we say a team has nothing to play for
  8. I agree. Shaw and Moose are fairly even as players. I'd probably argue Shaw slightly better but maybe Moose's D makes up for it. One will be very cheap for a few more years, the other 15+ mil for several years.
  9. And it's like as short of a 'second half' as you can have with the late ASG
  10. Yeli setting up for that 3rd cycle too. The right center field in this park is set up well for it too
  11. Yea pretty sure that's gone but who knows maybe it hits just right and pops back into the field. Just get him in now so it doesn't matter.
  12. I know we beat it to death the other day already, but with Kratz they're not even going by traditional day game after a night game stuff. Is what it is at this point but it's really weird.
  13. For likely NL playoff teams I go Rizzo first, Carpenter 2nd after the obvious David Freese of course.
  14. It will probably be the WC game, call me crazy there.
  15. I thought I ade my take on the games played clear. But if it wasn't, I think either should win. My point was that had Trout not missed those games, he'd have built up even more stats that would have made it insurmountable. Of course you could say the inverse for Mookie too, but I was just speaking for Trout. Him not on the DL 3 weeks would've been enough to not have their stats be comparable/close anymore thus enough to not have the being on a bad team be the tie breaker. It's a wash though since they both missed
  16. Really gotta have this one. Really don't want to go into STL only up 1.
  17. Yea the error stat is really just a quirk to talk about, should have no merit. The biggest thing for Trout is simply his absurd OBP, it is just crazy valuable to get on base nearly half your plate appearances. Normally i'm for just giving it to Trout every year and i'm fine if they do. But Mookie is comparable in everything this year. If Trout didn't miss 3 weeks he'd have been able to make the counting stats enough to overcome being on a mediocre team imo. I think Mookie missed some time too, so I'm not saying that since Trout missed time he can't win. I'm saying that without those 3 weeks he wasn't able to build up enough of a gap between him and everyone else. Basically, him playing those 3 weeks while Mookie wouldn't have would have clearly made him more valuable. But instead it's kind of a wash.
  18. DeGrom getting Cy Young on such a bad team is going to be tough enough, no way he's even in the race for MVP. I know he's been ridiculous but it will be even harder and harder now for Ps to win MVP due to pitch counts. Forget the W stats, they're just not as valuable since they go 6-7 innings now instead of 8-9 years ago. And of course they have their own award.
  19. Think this article kind of nails it https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/why-christian-yelich-has-taken-over-the-nl-mvp-race-and-deserves-to-win-the-award/
  20. Quirk on this is check out Lucas Giollito for CWS. Has like 11 or 12 wins with a near 6 ERA. Degrom has what 8 wins?
  21. And another possible explanation. I'd like to know the answer. Also the OPS stuff is small sample, Pina has last year under his belt. Did awful first half, no doubt about htat and it's killing that stat. But he's done so much better since mid season, at least close to last year
  22. Certainly could be the case, I'd be more than fine with such an explanation. That stuff is a 3 weeks to over a month ago. and he sure seems to be playing well whenever he plays so...
  23. Yes if he hurt his Shoulder and multiple times missed games because of soreness and then he got hit in the injured shoulder by a pitch that then ran up into his face. I would completely expect sporadic playing time. This is beyond a non issue. Don't think someone would have asked the manager, "hey is Judge's shoulder still bothering him? He sure seems to be hitting well." Other here say it's because of the pitching matchups so it doesn't seem as clear as you say
  24. On the Kratz general topic. I was randomly watching MLB network like a month ago and they were talking to a Yankees young player. I don't recall who, someone who had just come up and doing well, don't really recall the circumstances. But the guy randomly got on a tangent about Kratz, either helping learn this or that, or maybe giving him a nickname. Said how he's happy for him to get his shot in MKE. Basically it's some random young player going on how good of a dude Kratz is, completely unprompted. So good for Kratz, this stretch here and potential playoff run is probably gonna make the grind of the last 15 years totally worth it for him. Good for him.
  25. Also, that Shaw ejection was absolute garbage. Guy barks one time while walking away without even looking at the ump and he gets tossed. That ump should be suspended a game. I don't care if it's an F bomb, they drop F bombs all the time. Hope Kratz hits another here.
