  1. I haven't been a critic of the way CC has used his pen. He's made a couple of decisions that made me raise an eyebrow but I'm willing to concede he may have information that I don't. Yup, not directed at you by any means, sorry if it came off that way. Just the general every game bashing of the manager that takes place on bullpen moves. And obviously in our case the much talked about Hader handling
  2. I don't think their stretch is worse than what MKE dealt with. First, the expanded rosters is absolutely huge for relief pitching depth. Second, I know a rainout isn't a true off day in the sense that you have to be at the stadium. But the reality is your pitchers still don't have to pitch and get a day of rest for their arm. And that's the most important aspect of playing games like this, wearing of the pen. And keep in mind our stretch did have the ASB, but right after had to play 17 straight games and it was for no reason, just straight up scheduled that way as opposed to somewhat self inflicted by not having a roof on your stadium.
  3. Right, maybe Craiger wasn't so crazy after all huh with how he's managed the pen. You're not wrong that sting of losing would be extra painful if it's done by STL. But have to think with the head not the heart, which isn't easy. Think of the Bears losing at home to GB in NFC Championship in 2011, it's gonna suck no matter what but have it done by GB in your house had to make it even worse
  4. Classic Cubs way to win. Hopefully Nats can put together something in the bottom.
  5. But it'a all a crapshoot, right? And if it's not then those teams should be worried about playing us, not us worried about them. If this really is an elite team, then it shouldn't matter who we play. But in a crapshoot there is still odds and every little bit counts. hitting a 7 is more likely than hitting a 6 or a 5. yes of course if you want to win it all you should do it regardless, but the easier the better. Take the NCAA tournament as an example. Would you rather play high seeds the whole way or a bunch of underdogs that pulled off upsets. tough guy speak you can say it doesn't matter just win the game, but reality is the easier it is the better. I know I'd have rather played MSU than Duke in that title game. To be the best you gotta beat the best. That isn't tough guy speak, you literally have to win the game. If you don't have the confidence to beat the best then you're a paper tiger. I don't care who we play, where we play them or how many times we play them. All of those teams are good, you're odds aren't going to shift a ton from one to the other all that much. Just win baby! OK. Keep telling yourself you'd rather play Boston, Houston, or Cleveland in the WS instead of Oakland. I'll keep preferring to play the easier team. I might be crazy, but when we played the Nationals I was happy we didn't have to face Scherzer and Strasburg. Apparently you would have preferred to see Max. Would you rather win the division or get the WC? It really shouldn't matter, just win.

  7. I was aware of this but feel like it could be tweaked that the scorer could choose to giee the W to the starter if he wanted or felt it was worth it. With the logic being he still likely pitched more innings than anyone else. The way I understand it is that he can't and I assume the reason is they're trying to eliminate some subjectivity.
  8. Oh right duh, I forgot Shaw and even Moose could play first if needed. the Braun comment above about 1B doesn't really matter much
  9. Because you'd always prefer to play as worse a team as possible (or at least best matchup vs us) to increase your chances of winning.
  10. At this point I know I'd rather have Cedeno than Jennings. I doubt CC agrees though. Then the last spot Williams IMO of those listed. You already have one of the 5 SP listed as a long man type instead of Woodruff. Also if Thames scuffles to finish the year and Santana keeps doing well it wouldn't surprise me if Santana got his spot. That's probably assuming they still view Braun as a possibility at 1B if needed during late game subs.
  11. Yes, no one is going to deny he's been bad because that horrible start has to be factored in. It's just thinking a bit and realizing that you can find a 4-6 stretch for almost anyone where their stats suck. There's a legit argument to say he wasn't worth acquiring to begin with due to the low OBP and all that, but to base stuff off 5-6 weeks small sample is just foolish. If you need examples, go look at how Goldschmidt and Carpenter started the year. Just like anyone reasonable should have known that what Sogard did for his initial call up wasn't going to last.
  12. I would absolutely agree with the Cardinals. I would rather the Brewers play in the Division Series versus the Cardinals than the Cubs. In that scenario if the other Division Series was the Rockies-Braves, the Brewers would have about as good of a chance as anybody to emerge as the National League Champions. One other irony in looking at that possible scenario (where the Rockies win the NL West) is one of the best things that could happen to the Brewers in that case is having the Braves go on a hot streak to end the season. If the Brewers won the division, but the Braves finished with a better record then the Brewers would face the Rockies in the Division Series instead of the Cubs-Cardinals winner. Probably too many stars to align for that scenario. Interesting thought and one that's probably very unlikely. But another thing to consider though is that you might give up home field in the NLCS by going that route. I don't know the answer, but I think I'd lean towards not having to play the Cubs in the NLDS over the risk of not having home field in the NLCS vs ATL
  13. My gut had me thinking we should be going for STL, WAS, COL. Keep LA out and feel comfortable that we're ahead of STL by enough to not worry about them. Then I thought about it and remembered we still play STL so we should worry about WC spot #1 first. So I'm going LAD, COL, WAS
  14. In the NLDS you never play more than two games back to back though. And every P besides Hader can pitch two days in a row. And come playoffs they might let him as well. Might have to adjust in the NLCS when there is 3 games in a row.
  15. wow, can't believe a player actually said that. Kudos to him for being honest instead of giving a cliche answer.
  16. And just in general why not give Scherzer some rest if he feels he needs it. Their season is over. Bad luck for us but can't blame them, he's too valuable to them Awesome awesome win. Great management from CC, give some credit where it's due to navigate that game
  17. Geezy nails it there. Schoop has been fine since the initial horrible start. As if people here wouldn't be ticked if Gonzalez hit 240/320 after we give him 50 mil. It's just way less risk having the one year deal
  18. Man would I love to Braun jack one here and be super cocky about. Forgot about schoop when talking about Braun PH, thought of Saladino and remember he played but forgot Schoop, yea him at 2b and Perez at 1B would've done the trick
  19. all i thought was double play off the bat there for Moose. I'll take that instead, huge huge
  20. With how he looked I probably just let him go until a walk or hit, then Jeffress. But with the two innings Monday I get it if not. And it's not like Jeffres hasn't been the best reliever in the league this year
  21. ok, forget it... I said I was on the Braun side too. Just saying it's not like Jesus was there today saying I'm so spent I'm incapable of playing. He's a competitor. But I get the point, he basically said he feels off so probably use the other MVP instead if he's available Awesome Hader
  22. Well I'm sure even with him saying that I'm sure he fully expected to PH if needed. He's not over there shaking or something
  23. Yea maybe I'm stuck in history, but I go Braun there. Just has so much more experience and he's so good going the other way with Chisek's stuff that almost requires you go opposite field. Nothing too get worked up about though.
