  1. What are there like 7-10 guys who'd actually still count as the traditional #1 ace type starter? First, they're not available and second we couldn't afford their contracts if they were or you could trade for an impending FA like Bumgarner. So no I wouldn't see a trade that makes sense for Burnes. All signs look like he could be that next tier of top level pitcher while not being traditional ace, call it what you will. But a low 3s ERA type cost controlled for 7 years is invaluable to MKE. All the tools look like they're there. If anything he's our best chance at an Ace since the true aces aren't available. Peralta I could see in a package for something, C or a pitching upgrade of some kind in a 'go for it' type trade since I'm just not sure what to think long term of a little guy who only throws 91 and only has two pitches. If he develops a changeup though look out, so I'm not exactly 'looking' to trade him. I'd rather develop the change and hope you can make him into a near Ace type.
  2. I agree that with a lefty pitching and an off day he should be out there. While he did have one or two bad ABs yesterday, he still had a hit and has generally been doing just fine of late. Have an off day tomorrow and you can plan Saturday off when there is a righty pitcher.
  3. Agree, let's start playing him more consistently and hope for a hot streak and a bunch of ding dongs.
  4. Can't believe Braun would sit vs a lefty he hit two homers off a few weeks ago and an off day tomorrow. Maybe he goes to 1B for Jesus though.
  5. This just seems wrong. Probably need a tweak of the rule somehow to prevent it
  6. Yup, the two Braun HR game at Wrigley last time was vs Quintana
  7. Quintana is going I think......lefty oh really, my bad. Not sure what i was thinking then. Gotta go Braun then. Moose at 3B. Schoop at 2B. one of PErez/Arcia at SS
  8. Righty P tomorrow so you'll see both Shaw and Moose. Maybe Schoop since he's been out two in a row but who knows with him. Braun would be up in the air too, could see them go with Grandy. You know Counsel is gonna love his veteran-ness. But lefty and all too. Personally I just go with Braun.
  9. Their closer is hurt too. But it's just the nature of bullpens in a way, you can't predict most guys year to year, it's so fluky
  10. With a day off Thursday and a chance to pick up another win on the division leaders, it would be a travesty to get the B-team tomorrow. and it's a night game instead of the quick turnaround day game
  11. Would be nice to not have to use either of Soria and Jeffress. I don't think they've shown who's up in the pen at all. Maybe try one of the others first and see how it goes
  12. Just curious, what are the numbers for human umps? The key stat would be on the borderline pitches. That's what I mean. Human will have a high percent due to all the gimme calls. But instead of 50% accuracy on borderline calls like it is (of course just guessing, but it's not super high) the percent is now high and it's an agreed upon set of rules/system by all parties so no one can complain
  13. That would be my guess if the Cubs close the gap. I don't think Jeffress pitches if the lead is maintained, though. Good point. Up 5 in the 9th use a Barnes/Williams type. Have Jeffress fresher for tomorrow
  14. Miley, wow the guy keeps going. Placement is perfect. Been thnking he's on house money a while but he just keeps going. And now only a few starts left, no reason to think he can't maintain it. Sure is nice to see the opposing team giving away runs/games two nights in a row. Now just don't blow it back to them. Guys, the science on automated strike zone is done. Do some reading and you'll learn how it works, it's done and ready to go to upper 90% accuracy. I'm all for it just simply so I don't have to see the whining each and every game. Grand scheme in theory it should all even out, but when each mistake/break occurs can impact disproportionately and swing games. I really don't see the Umpire Union beef with it either, it won't eliminate a job as you still need a home plate ump for everything else
  15. Yea I don't know how much more evidence they need for the electronic K zone so this arguing and complaining doesn't have to happen over and over. These pitches one ball length one way or the other are basically impossible to tell and they're just guessing.
  16. Thanks for the list. Doubt we pony up the money for Corbin. And wouldn't want to really even go for a 3 yr Chacin type deal with anyone remaining there. So looking at next year's version of Miley, assuming Miley now gets a legit contract from someone instead of league min. Gio actually could be one, cheap one year deal to try and rebound from this bad year. Ryu is another. Maybe Lancy Lynn too since he didn't do enough to warrant a legit deal. Harvey might have to go that route too.
  17. Frankly a lot of the problems witnessed are just likely the result of two fanbases who are heavy drinkers. I've been to a lot of CHC vs MKE games in MP and Wrigley and personally I never have a problem mostly because I'm just polite and nice to everyone. THe dumbest thing to listen to is them booing and bashing Braun for PEDs while oblivious to Sosa (and likely Arrietta) and of course the loud chear for routine fly balls. However, I've certainly witnessed a lot of problems. While it's tough to say for sure who the initiator is I'd lean Cubs fans instigating and then MKE fans going back at them instead of just rolling their eyes and moving on. Of course I'm biased, but I'm basing that off of the small wisecrack comments that I hear from them all the time that someone like me just makes a joke back and have fun with it and/or chuckle and move on. That combined with how many road sporting events I go to for UW sports and our fans are generally the second most friendly (outside of our students) after Nebraska so I think that would generally apply to Brewers fans. Who knows though, there's probably a lot of our fans who curse at them to "go back to Wrigley" using a few curse words and then of course they don't back down either.
  18. Win this game and things get very interesting. have another 50/50 game tomorrow to potentially get to 2 games. CHC plays WAS next and gets Stras and Scherzer in two of them. Brewers get SF, but Bumgarner in one. Then heads up again right away next week. Lose this and go back to 5 games and it just feels different.
  19. I think the idea for the Bears would be to try and copy the Seattle model of building and spending to make a great D while they have a cheap QB. Key to whether they can win big is still whether the QB pans out though. They made the move for the QB though so they have to have faith rather than just operate like he isn't any good. He was the top pick just a year ago and was coached terribly last year. See how he looks this year.
  20. Yes, that went away with the 2nd WC. And I do see the scheduling issue since you won't know for sure who plays who so that non-WC related DS game can't be scheduled the next day. I'm guessing that's the key hang up on this ETA: Good point by BLKNight about rewarding the #1 seed by getting the team after it used their best starter.
  21. And then the way it works in the playoffs is the WC obviously plays each other and automatically plays the 1 seed, also from the central in this case and in the one you mentioned above. Seems to somewhat be a flaw in the system there, maybe tweak it to match up based on records. Say MKE has the 2nd best record after the Cubs and wins the WC game. AZ wins the west with the worst record of the remaining four teams, Cubs should play AZ and MKE plays winner of the East.
  22. It's a hard play to make when you're going to your right and have to throw cross-body to home. Would've had to stop, plant, and throw home and he knows full well that Broxton's at 3B with a lead. I think that if he goes home it's far from a sure thing, maybe 50/50 at best. But getting up, running to 3rd and having to turn around and throw the other direction vs a fast runner is almost impossible. Pop up and go home you should still be alive another batter
  23. when really the only bad call was the strike 1 to Jesus. And I think the passed ball vs Granderson when he pulled back the bunt was a strike too. most of those pitches weren't really even close except the Braun one
  24. You have to go home with that. When folks say those dumb lines lik "championship teams don't make mistakes like that". yes they do.
