  1. Gallardo on there as 2 mil, that's not guaranteed is it? Have to think if we bring in another legit starter that he's easily expendable and saves 2 mil.
  2. Still strikes out a ton and has terrible splits vs lefties. I think with what they just added you can certainly give a Thames/Jesus strict platoon a shot and it'll likely be just fine. However, Thames has those issues and the book is out on him at this point that he can't hit a breaking ball. And Jesus came out of nowhere, could just easily turn into nothing next year. It's a question but with the money they just spent it's not like they can spend a bunch more to upgrade it, and putting their splits together they're more than adequate as long as they do reasonably close to what they did last year
  3. It wouldn't be a strict L/R platoon like Thames/Jesus would be doing. Braun would play his normal schedule and his off days would be scheduled vs righties and Santana and cain's off days would be vs righties when Braun would go to the OF and Thames at first. The term platoon generally alludes to the L/R system like Thames/Jesus would be doing.
  4. The killer on that LAD deal is that at the time Puig was complete trash and also had massive headcase issues going on. Yea in hindsight after Braun's year last year it looks like they blew it. But at the time Puig was garbage and likely wouldn't have wanted to be in MKE. At the time of decision it wasn't terrible and I see both sides, was probably a very close call for them that could have went either way. Let's just hope Braun plays 130 games this year with over 280 and over 20 HRs, that's not too much to ask.
  5. Phillips is supposedly at that level of D too though so you're not losing much on D. Again, it's assuming Braun can't do it, if he can it's a moot point. And all I meant is here or there, not that he was brought in to play 1B. Have to pop Thames on the DL for 10 days, some days vs righties you have Phillips in instead Jesus. Of course assuming Phillips looks like he did to finish the year and you're looking to get him some ABs. Jesus could also massively regress since he came out of nowhere last year. And we all know how much CC loves playing the L/R stuff.
  6. Braun when healthy is still a top level hitter as we saw in 2016. And his advanced stats supported it last year too before the injury at the end of the year that turned him to trash. Regardless he's going to miss at least one day a week for rest and a couple stretches on the DL. And Phillips can be late game defensive sub. I also read that Yelich played 1B in HS so he could be a fill in at first if Thames gets hurt so more ABs there for Phillips. So I'd have Phillips as my 4th all year if he's still here and Broxton can hit the bricks, he had his shot. this is all assuming Santana is gone and Braun isn't training to play 1st. I agree it would be nice to have Braun start putting in some work on it and see how it looks.
  7. It's feasible and all, but after what HH said the Santana trade seems inevitable. I'd put more stock in what he said than Rosenthal at this point. Weird to say, I know.
  8. Yup, it was said in that article that ATL had drastically more points of sale to accommodate moving so much more product. Not really possible for the Brewers to do
  9. I actually was trying to think of other options besides ones mentioned already and thought of the Sox. For an upside cost controlled P it could be Rodon back to MKE. Stuff is great if he could just get his control down a bit and stay healthy. I think Santana should have more value than Rodon though so more would have to come back to MKE so I don't know where you go after that since Sox shouldn't be giving up prospects. Maybe also swap Thames for Abreu and then have us kick in a P prospect? Something of that nature. You could then turn around and flip Thames and Santana for more prospects?
  10. Yes. This will be my last post till Tuesday. 1 more trade is in the works besides the Domingo trade per my source. I’m out. Go Brewers!!! Wow. No clue about the second trade. Guess would be 2B related. Or something minor like a relief P, or just moving out Broxton for whatever you can get.
  11. I agree with this about Archer/Santana. It's a filling one hole to create another. And I think they need Archer much more than they need Santana. All that said, I'm not sure what they think of Santana. I wonder if Santana, Woodruff and other pieces would work. Just thinking out loud. For what it's worth, I heard that Tampa did not like Brinson as a centerpiece of an Archer deal. They had concerns about his hit tool. Same logic would likely apply to KC actually. Cle really looks like the most sense and Houston after that, and of course stearns has his connections there
  12. Thing that doesn't make sense with Tampa is that if they're trading 4 years of controlled Archer then they're not really bothering trying to win, so why do they really want a MLB ready guy like Santana? Probably why Cleveland makes most sense. But of course anything is possible. Also for the one who recently said he wasn't sold on Archer. Yes, I know the ERA isn't great. But the eye test on his stuff supports him. I also think his advanced stats support that the ERA is unlucky. I believe his velocity is still as good as it was and his K rate is great. But the big one is 4 years of control for ages 29-32 at a mere 8 mil per year. He's the dream for a small market team like us. Switch him to the NL and see what he can do.
  13. Why is Salazar such a big thing around here? He was so bad at one point last year that he was demoted to the bullpen, rebounded a little and then quickly went back in the tank. He's started 30 games once. Has gone over 140 innings once and in his career averages less than 6 innings per start. I'd want a damn good prospect coming back with Salazar if we're giving up Santana for him. I think Salazar is a tantalizing player because he looks great at times - and has had some success. 145K in 103 innings last year. 30 starts and a 3.45 ERA in 2015. All Star selection in 2016 (if you believe in that kind of stuff). His FIP has never been above 3.74. At age 28, that makes him pretty interesting. I don't know that much more about him, but his inconsistencies are troublesome. The ERA last year, the move to the bullpen - perhaps others have some insight. Intriguing too what our pitching coach could do with him after everything we saw him pull off last year with guys. Big leaps by nelson/Anderson and more. Yea I'm not sold on Salazar and actually have a small fear they'd actually force us to give them prospects to get him. Although I see how taking Kipnis's salary might make that up
  14. The Cain deal is obviously more $ than ideal, no one is gonna argue. But they "why" here is pretty clear to me, they viewed the offensie collapse last year happened because of too many blow contact strikeout guys and they targeted two guys off the opposite type. And both are better defenders. So clearly the OF for 2018/19 is better than what they'd have had without the moves. The last two years of Cain's deal get sketchy. But the Why I just said is logical.
  15. Teams not trapped. If santana or braun can go 1b... you risk broxton and aguilar not having a spot. We likely will do a deal... we dont HAVE to do a deal. Broxton is nobody too be concerned with. Jesus came out of nowhere, nothing to lose sleep over. Trade him for some lotto tix or keep him as a backup since you can trade Thames for more. These guys are very low on the concern list right now.
  16. Yea this deal is a bit tough to swallow. Last we heard was 4 year deal for him is the most he had, 5th year is gonna hurt. I mean, this is more than what Cobb is going to get right? Maybe they'll do both but otherwise I think I'd rather buy the P. Santana deal has to be for a guy who can start now as I doubt they spend another 80+ mil. Have to wait to judge it all until the last move(s) come out.
  17. I might lose control if that payed out, but I doubt it. They still need pitching and Santana gets it. Agreed. But if somehow one of them is going to 1B, which I doubt, then a free agent P signing address that issue just as easily.
  18. Have to think the Santana trade is in front of the league for approval right now.
  19. 5 years for 80 million. They better win it all the next couple years and hopefully the Santana deal is done before this news got out or his value tanks.
  20. One thing to note regarding giving up Brinson and Harrison. If the supposed Cain signing also happens it basically locks all 3 OF spots for the next 3-4 years. So OF prospects become expendable a touch as you have time to get new ones or lower level guys to step up. Also, of folks talking like Santana is going to bring back these top P prospects. Thinkg about it this way, Miami couldn't get top pitching prospects back for Yelich. So, wouldn't surprise me if you end having to kick in other prospects with Santana if you're getting back an MLB ready P and/or several prospects as some have brought up. We'll see soon, I think he gets traded. Although I'm not opposed to just keeping him and playing Yelich in CF and see what happens. Simply sign Cobb and Walker and see what happens. Walker/Yelich would give you a lot of the contact that hurt us last year.
  21. Waiting to see the final details and subsequent moves. But first reaction to me is that I'm surprised and happy none of the top starting P prospects are involved, supposedly. That was my biggest fear on this
  22. It's not that simple. you have to factor in everything else you'd have to give up. Straight up of course you do it, but that's not the case.
  23. "Not only did the team make more money by lowering the prices" This was a direct quote from the article. It literally says that the team is making more money. I think Darren Rovell is probably financially aware enough to differentiate between revenue and profit. It's not clear. The phrase "making more money" could be used either way. The later phrase of "spent 16% more" seems pretty clear though and contradictory to the other end. IDK for sure, I think they should clarify. I think it was a poorly written article that left it vague. Maybe there is a local ATL article out there with more details.
  24. IDK, the phrasing of making more money implies profit it to me so it's misleading. But the later phrasing in the article of "spent 16% more" does not indicate more profit to me, just more cashflow. Maybe there will be a follow up with more clarification.
  25. And at MP they should still keep the ridiculous markup on beer to try and moderate consumption. There's probably a middle ground here that would be the actual sweet spot. They cut their prices basically 50%, say other teams add just $1 above what ATL is doing to each thing the cost would still be generally in line with anywhere else you go out to get food/drink but still way less than fans have been accustomed to so sales go up and the team rebounds some lost profit.
