Well said Monty. Maybe we'll know more details soon and for all we know they're still negotiating. I bet there's a number there that works for everyone and I'm confident he'll at least be a solid contributor even with some regression from last year.
-
That would make zero sense for the Brewers. Why would they garauntee his arby salaries and get no FA years out of it? If it is 4 years it would have the be way less than $34mil. Any deal would have to be 5+ years or include attractive cheap option(s). 4/$20mil wouldn't really be a bad deal for Villar if it just went through his arby years. Yea not exactly sure where he's at in the process, so not arguing specifics and I'm sure you know more than me on that. Was just saying he'd be greatly underselling himself and 20mil while a lot of money still isn't enough to never have to worry about it for his whole life after you factor in taxes and agent fees. Unless of course he's willing to live a very normal life, which of course is rare for these guys. I'm just saying he should try and get more total dollars somehow, however it works out with the years. If he can somehow get it to where 35+ mil is locked in that is a huge difference from 20. Basically I just think he should negotiate himself up a bit and hope the Brewer's give it, it's basic negotiation. And still we don't know the years so it's tough to comment with certainty. Just that most of these early sign moves are usually locking in more than 20 mil for the guy.
-
Did we ever hear how many years? Tough to really comment without knowing. But if it's a 5/20 or 4/20 he should definitely say no as that is a serious lowball and try to negotiate more. Probably shouldn't walk away from the table but he should counter to 4/34-38, something like that.
-
He could've easily been a #1 if he didn't completely screw his game up trying to play on the wing and changing his form. Basically supplant his soph year game/self to now and he'd be a fine #1 and this team would be what we thought it could be. I don't remember a player ever regressing so much in college.
-
But if you're clearing out Henson's contract in the deal it still makes sense. Yes he's older, but he's still a much better player than Henson and signed for shorter. And seemingly fits the type of C we should want. Plus he's known as a great teammate/mentor type. Could be a good fill-in for a couple years to buy Thon some time or another draftee time to develop. I'd be for it as long as Henson is going out.

Yea, don't wanna get this offtrack, I think we can all find enough on all 3 to make any argument pretty easily, lol. Record: 71 Wins Playoffs: No Brewers MVP: Braun Brewers Cy: Peralta finally clicks after the good end to last season Brewers ROY: Arcia if he counts just based off PT. Otherwise a rookie relief pitcher First trade: Scooter in spring training Surprise: Santana stays healthy and does well Disappointing: Arcia, not convinces he's ready to hit well World Series: LAD over Texas.

What about the Cardinals for insufferable fan bases though? Very tough to pick between those 3 but I think I put Cards before Cubs as worse.

2017 Season-Long Promotions are Out---- Why Season Tickets?
tmwiese55 replied to rickh150's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Good point BillScott. Would still say the majority of season holders either don't get them those games or do attend themselves. Vast majority of those Cubs fans are probably coming from direct sales from the team or scalpers that bought them just to sell. When I say bad Cubs fans, all I meant was now that they're so good their inherent drunken, loud, cockiness really comes out and it's easier not to deal with it. And a huge chunk of them are just band-wagoners who really don't know anything about baseball, yet talk trash like they've all been diehards their whole life. I'm sure opposing fans would say the same about many Packers/UW fans too, every fan-base has that element and WI people certainly love to drink. Also, if you rewind 5 years to when we were good and the Cubs sucked you could go to Wrigley for very cheap for Brewer games. I've sat 10ish rows behind the dugout for like $35 in that era. It's just the nature of when teams are good or bad. -
Yea no shot at a seed after that today. I thought they'd be a 3 right now, maybe a 4. Can't believe they weren't in it as a 4 right now, but really it's just the difference of a couple spots. I'd say now they're most likely a 3 with a shot at a 2. No chance at 1
-
Gonzaga has beat: Arizona, Tennessee, Florida, Iowa St, Washington, and presumably will have beat St Mary's 2 or 3 times. That AZ win will loom large in validating them as a 1. Don't get me wrong, I get what you're saying regarding how UW should have a shot at a 1 as well. But RPI isn't everything and we all know they'll put an undefeated as a 1, it is what it is. And I do grant that if UW wins out they'd have a shot at a 1 depending on how others do. My guess, they'll lose one more regular season somehow and lose in the B1G. 50/50 between a 2 and a 3 seed.
-
Yea there's a chance if they win out, which will obviously be tough in itself. But I still think they would end up at a 2 since they won't have any good wins. Gonzaga will for sure be a 1 if undefeated. They actually beat a lot of good major conference teams early on. I do think they're good and better than UW, but I'd still love to be in their bracket since Gonzaga is really more on the level of a 2 or 3 seed but inflated due to their schedule, so it just makes for an easier bracket.

2017 Season-Long Promotions are Out---- Why Season Tickets?
tmwiese55 replied to rickh150's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
As others have said and I did too, there's no way to only sell to Brewers fans. I could choose not to get tickets for the Cubs game, but then Cubs fans could just buy the same tickets direct from the Brewers. That guy is going to the game anyway, Brewers are getting the same amount of money, and I take a markup from the Cub fan (who was going to go anyway). Yea it sucks, but it's the nature of being bad right now. I'm confident the ratio will be back in our favor once we're good again. Though there will always be a huge Cubs contingent when they're good. In the past I've liked going to Cubs games because I knew it would be sold out and lively game/crowd, that's fun for me. But now the ratio is way out of our favor (and the bad Cubs fans are the ones that show up now that they're good) and we're not good, so it's not fun. The current moneymaking opportunity on those idiots is too good to pass up and is a help to subsidize paying too much for so many other games throughout the season. Also, are Packers fans upset when they have majority at several road games every year? The Packers are the Cubs of football. -

tmwiese55 replied to rickh150's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
And you can't exactly put them on Stubhub and denote that only Brewers fans buy them. You have no way of knowing. So what's the other option, just don't get tickets for Cubs games? Well, if every Brewer fan did that then Cubs fans would just buy direct from the Brewers. IMO, we know those games right now while the Cubs are so good are going to be packed with Cubs fans and our team is not competing right now. It's just logical to use the Cubs fans to subsidize your own tickets cost while the team sucks. I mean, the whole point of this thread was how it financially is kind of dumb right now, doing this helps alleviate it. -
Yea I said he should've been back a minute or two earlier as well, and he normally does come back a bit sooner than that. I remember thinking it at the time as well, I don't recall if there was just no deadballs or what but I remember thinking as they got hot he needs to get back in. That 1-2 minute flexibility is normally what they do. My guess is Kidd forgot he went out with 1 min left in the first rather than at the Q break. But if anything he often ends up riding Giannis too much. Many times this year what you're saying would apply to Jabari too, where he goes out like he should but sit longer than ideal. But again, this is by design to keep their minutes under 35ish. If you start riding these guys too much you'll break them down by age 26 like Thibs did to the Bulls. Now, 3 years from now when it's 'go for the title' time then maybe more criticism on this makes sense. Also, I hate Kidd as much as the next guy, and did before they hired him due to his wife beating days. Seems like a good skills mentor for the guys but his Xs and Os on both sides are horrible. At the very least he needs new assistants. I'm just saying this is one thing he's really not messing up in regards to G/J but I hear a lot of casual fans don't get the fixed rotation that is common
-
His rotations for surrounding pieces is tough to figure it out and seems like he's winging it game to game. What you guys are complaining about doesn't quite make sense. One end you're saying it doesn't make sense because it changes so much. Next you're saying he should wing it by game flow. In reality, most good teams have a fixed rotation every game pretty darn close to the minute and then adjust based on fouls. Essentially, what he's doing with G/J is extremely common and not something to bash him about. He actually should be doing it with everyone so guys get consistency to who they're playing with, instead of winging it each game like he does with everyone besides G/J. you guys seem to be arguing for winging it each game, which can lead to chaos which is what's happening in MKE. It's what's leading to Moose sometime having to play 18 straight minutes to finish a game and other dumb stuff.
-
I agree his rotations overall are baffling game to game on what he does. However, I see these complaints about Giannis and Jabari a lot but that is really the only consistent plan he has every game and sticks to it. Basically, yea Giannis was dominating but he can't play 18 straight minutes. It used to be Giannis would come out with 6ish to go in the first, then come in for Jabari around the quarter break. Now they've generally flipped that and use some discretion as to which one is scoring well and/or fouls. So in that case, Giannis was dominating so he got to ride out the Q isntead of Jabari, good coaching decision. I would agree that he should have been brought back sooner though as PHX started making a run. I'm just saying this is a clear rotation plan that most teams use and stick to, nothing to bash him on there. Also, as a fan I don't want Giannis playing 41 mins a game right now to beat him up for future seasons so I like the way they're doing it and the clear plan to always have one of G/J on the court by staggering their minutes. This is something OKC coaches were too dumb to figure out for years with KD and Russ after Harden was gone to anchor the bench. I think second half last year they started staggering them and shockingly it was their best run post Harden.
-
One thing I've been frustrated with this year is how little Giannis is actually playing PG, it's way less than the second half last year. For obvious reasons, you have Delly and Brogdon so you're using them as PGs. I'd rather go back to full Giannis PG mode with Delly spotted up shooting (like we all thought would be plan) rather than a bunch of PG/Henson high post PnR type stuff. I guess overall this just a bigger overall complaint of their terrible half court offensive system. I'll say that with a dynamic real PG who can run PnR well that Giannis would be the ultimate weapon as a screener. We don't have that though, but if we insist on Delly/Brogdon handling the ball a lot I'd sure prefer Giannis as the screener than Henson.
-
The logic that it was the biggest comeback ever (knowing the outcome) is irrelevant to that specific playcall at the time. It's like a roulette wheel, every spin is it's own outcome. At some point (probably tons of times) in another Super Bowl, a team with a big lead passed and it didn't result in this outcome, yet it was still the same playcall and decision. ETA: Or if Atlanta would've still won just by not messing it up later to go up 11, then no one would be calling this play the worst ever, it wouldn't even be being talked about. I'm not arguing they should've passed. I lean towards the conservative side and agree to just run it as they've had success all day at it. I'm just saying if the FB would've been wide open out of the backfield for an easy 1st no one would calling it the worst call ever. Or take their first play of one of those possessions, play action pass and the RB was uncovered and went for like 40 yards up towards the top sideline, no one is saying that was an awful playcall.

2017 Season-Long Promotions are Out---- Why Season Tickets?
tmwiese55 replied to rickh150's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
If you're being totally frugal, yes season tickets at this time aren't the proper financial route. I still do it, for many of the reasons mentioned by others, but dropped to an 11 pack instead of 20. For me it's about keeping ahead on the priority list the next time they make the playoffs, by sticking through this time while lots of others drop out you'll be much higher on the list when they're good again. Another big reason for me (Madison commute) is that it forces me to go. If I say I'll just buy them as I see fit, I'll inevitably find some excuse not to go. And as David Puddy would say, you gotta support the team. Also, with the crazy Cubs fans it's an easy time to buy Cubs tickets and flip them for a profit to pay for a bunch of the rest of your tickets. -
I agree the 3rd and 1 was a bad call, but the quick call to say the most recent thing is 'all-time' is something wrong with people today. IMO, it wasn't even the worst call in that game, I'd call 2nd and 10 at the 22 later in the game worse. also, a run up the gut there that gets stuffed is also what many Packer fans on this board and all over WI have been complaining about for years from McCarthey, now we're blasting a guy for not doing it. Overall, as if we know every call in the history of Super Bowls to be throwing at all-time so quickly. 95/100 times that play doesn't result in a fumble and it's inconsequential. A similar play call has probably been made a ton of times. Some ended up in a first down and no one thought of it again, others a punt and no one thought of it again. Just like after the game people were saying it was the best game ever, no it was the best comeback ever. The game was actually boring as heck for 3/4 of the game. Best games are ones that go back and forth so you're entertained the whole time. Big pic the Seattle pass wasn't even a bad call if you look at clock management, timeouts and game theory. In short, they should've passed that down in order to guarantee they could use all downs and so both 3rd and 4th down could be either run or pass. If they ran there and didn't get it they would've had to use the TO. Which means they had to pass on 3rd. The mistake was simply on Wilson for not throwing a low pass that only his guy could catch, like we take for granted with Rodgers
-
But look how many more fluke things needed to happen for that Seattle comeback. If Atl runs the 3rd and 1, regardless if they get it, they probably don't even have a sweat. Then after getting to the 22 if they just slam standard running plays the only way they lose would need to involve an onside kick, obviously assuming he makes the kick to go up 11.

The defensive system is just terrible, that's the biggest problem. I don't understand how coaches in this era think a D designed to allow corner 3s is a good idea. Teams have figured it out and just pick us apart with wide open 3s from the corner. They got a bunch of lengthy players so they can switch on D,but then run a systems that sends 3 guys at a PNR instead of just switching it. Which leaves the corner 3 wide open. And it certainly seems to me the players have quit on the system, they know it doesn't work and they physically can't do it. They look noticeably frustrated by it too, so I would say this is bordering on quitting on the coach type situation right now. Offensive systems is also trash, but it's the least of our concerns right now since Giannis's open court abilities mask it.
-
If it turns out no picks and Vaughn not in the deal this is an absolutely great trade by the Bucks. It never ceases to amaze me in how dumb NBA teams are, it seems like there's always one sucker out there

What could Braun bring from anyone? (2017 version)
tmwiese55 replied to pete's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Good point. Along with that, the current state of the media is what can be called "gotcha media". Where their biggest goal/story is to try and nail someone on something and then bash them. Leads into them beating stories like this to death. As long as Braun continues to hit at a reasonable clip his contract isn't brutal. And maybe it'll actually be better/easier to trade him at the deadline. In the offseason teams have so many more options where they can pay similar money but not give up prospects. in season, their options are limited so if the right situation comes up maybe a deal happens. But I still have the opinion that if teams just expect us to give him away for nothing then I'd rather just keep him. Logjam issues hopefully can be resolved with either him or Santana moving to 1B. Also, keep in mind at this point we have no idea is Santana and Broxton will be legit, if they flop we have two open spots again. -

tmwiese55 replied to pete's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Yup, that's where it all starts. And that media spin has gotten the public believing almost every player in MLB is/was a user (so the public is angry an untrusting instead of just enjoying the game like they should be) when in reality I'd guess it is less prevalent in baseball than the other major sports, and probably Olympic type sports too. But the public just has blinders on for those sports. Just makes no sense to me, though I'd assume after more and more old timey writers retire it will go away.
