  1. Shaw will be back same was said about Thames last year and yet he was brought back. Thames was a productive player in 2018? Shaw wouldn’t even be on the roster if it wasn’t September. $5mil+ next year for Shaw...and I don’t thing he has an option.
  2. He has 3 WAR this year...I mean, not bad. Shaw is -1.0 WAR in less than half a season. That’s just lazily comparing...but I am sure you get the point. The Brewers have their backs against a wall on this one. I doubt Moustakas gets some nuts 3/$50mil deal. Worst case I am sure it is an affordable two year deal. They can’t afford to lose both the offense of Moustakas and Grandal...and signing Grandal is likely less of a value and a way bigger risk. Moustakas returning makes waaaay too much sense. If the price is realistic you gotta imagine he comes back. There is no in house option and what else do we do? Sign a different free agent? We are spending money regardless.
  3. Is the assumption that he won't accept the mutual option? If someone else wants to offer him 2 years then he's gone. Yah...pretty safe bet in my opinion. Why would we not give Moustakas two years? So we can turn to, Shaw? No way they go with him.
  4. Any guesses on Moustakas’ extension? Shaw is not coming back and I can’t imagine they go a different direction.
  5. It is very real if we win tomorrow. That allows a few possibilities: Brewers 3-0 Cardinals 2-1 Brewers 2-1 Cardinals 1-2 Everyone is going to think we HAVE to win out...but the Cardinals could definitely go 1-2 against the Cardinals. It’s 3 games...one starter doesn’t have it and suddenly things go downhill in a ‘should be win’ real fast. I also think the Cubs have a little bit of motivation to play spoiler after last weekend. That was embarrassing for them.

  7. That fair weather fanbase is dying so fast and I am loving it.

  9. We are beating up on some pretty bad offenses We haven’t played an offense like the Dodgers/Braves/Nationals in quite awhile. Nationals were probably the last one if you take out the crippled dying Cubs offense. We still have a solid bullpen, but I think the recent success is heavily aided by the opponents. I guess I wouldn’t call it formidable like last year where teams really feared it.

  11. Did anyone say that? I honestly don't remember seeing it, maybe they did and I just missed it, I've just seen the sarcastic version a couple times. Yes, people constantly play the Debbie Downer teams out of it just give up. Mention how they have no confidence in ‘X’ team playing the Cubs/Nationals/Cardinals. How the division is over cause the Cardinals play ‘X’ teams.

  13. But but I thought the D Backs had nothing to play for and we’re just going to lay down?!?!?

  15. Too late. St. Louis won it all with an 83 win team. Man entire NL was a joke. 3/4 teams didn't have 90 wins. World Series ended up the lowly Cardinals and the #4 seed out of the AL in the Detroit Tigers. The Cardinals somehow almost didn't finish above .500 despite playing 3/4 of the worst teams in the NL all year long.

  17. Orlando Arcia has only ever played SS because that is the premium defensive position and there has been no one on a roster to even compare to him. I don't know why that is reflective of his ability at a different position. As an everyday player it wouldn't make sense to play him anywhere else. Of course if he became a utility guy then he would need to play other positions depending on who is out at the time because that is what bench bats need to do. Do you think Ben Zobrist played every position in the minors? No, he played SS. Even Hernan Perez...he wasn't playing 3B/OF/1B in the minors. That is what those players started doing to maximize their value and keep a job.

  19. I think we may hold that title come next week
  20. Who said Arcia had to go? Just give him Perez's roster spot. That still provides consistent PAs if he deserves it (400ish if he is doing well). Arcia is getting more than $1.5mil in arbitration though. If Hernan Perez got $2.5mil Arcia is getting at least that if not more because he is a full time player. I would guess slightly more than $3mil.
  21. Most teams actually have a good SS these days. The days of SS being a weak position are long long gone. It may be the strongest position in the infield these days, maybe minus 1B. Most competing teams I would say have a reliable starter, many have an elite guy...probably have a second guy way better than Arcia to boot. Per Fangraphs (300 PA min.) 9 - 4+ WAR SS 13 - 3+ WAR SS 20 - 2+ WAR SS 26 - 1.5+ WAR SS So there were 26 guys 3x better than Arcia this year.
