They were doing this awfulness in the NBA playoffs usually to start a 4th quarter. It's terrible. Let the coaches and managers focus on the game. It's not April 12th. Not to mention the questions are dumb and it makes it so awkward. Does anyone like that kind of interview?

Grabbing the early lead is probably a key. Score a few runs and put the Nationals into a panic to go to a different pitcher. More pitchers we see the better I think our chances are. Once that manager makes that first switch it is a domino effect and they get trigger happy to keep going at a sign of trouble.

I'm not going to raise my hand but I can see why CC did this with Braun, Cain and Moose banged up. I think that is part of it. The other part is the pitcher is very unlikely to ever bat. Maybe Woody if he plays like a champ. Regardless they very well may need more pinch hitters than a normal game...all depends. The quality of our lesser pitchers is so limited planning for the chance at a 13 inning or more is pointless. Unlikely we could really contain the Nationals that long. It could happen...but I would rather just have the extra bats to PH and save us from injury.

He plays the slot, something we don't really have. I don't really miss him specifically per say...I usually don't miss injury prone players too much. He has been big for the Cowboys as a slot receiver though. Middle of the field just feels like it is missing someone. Graham is fine, but he is a TE and doesn't move off the line too fast. Allison was touted as a guy perfect for the LaFleur offense as a slot...can't say that has happened.

They need a slot WR if anything. Watching the Cowboys it sucks not having a reliable/good slot receiver (Cobb). I don't hate the current group of guys, but none really excel in the slot. Not saying they should have brought Cobb back, but I think they lack a dimension on offense without a guy in that form. Allison, to me, is not a slot guy.

What a silly statement. And that contract precedes Stearns there chief. And yes you do have to factor in both how the money could have been better spent and how it could've been worse. People like you are going to be surprised to see where that 2nd contract falls in terms of the the good and bad signed over that span. Uhhhhhhh, nowhere did I claim it was a Stearns move? I figured it made sense to hope our current GM doesn't shrug off his bad moves vs. talking about Doug Melvin and his poor choice to eat TacoBell with stomach issues.

I can look at it any way I want. Even the 2nd contract isn't turning out too bad given the year Braun just had in the second to last year. If Braun had left as a free after 2015, the Brewers easily could have done far worse with the money. You can, but it is wrong. Saying you could do worse doesn't make it any better. It is what it is. If we would have missed the postseason by a game would you have just been like, "Well we could have done worse." If we lose 100 games do we just say, "We could have done worse." I hope Stearns doesn't shrug off his bad moves figuring he could have done worse. You have to acknowledge when something was the wrong idea and learn from it.

But what if the contract isn't as bad as some fans believe it is, with the evidence being that Braun performed the same or better than over half of the players making as much or more money than him? Maybe, if that is the case, the fans have more to learn than the front office does. Well it isn't as bad as some make it out to be because he rebounded this year. Still not worth it, but far from a huge problem. It is just lazy to compare him to a bunch of other old players. Most of those teams have way more payroll than us. Looking at it Alex Gordon seems to be the only one on a non large market...and really that is just the Royals keeping a fan favorite through a rebuild more than actually expecting big production. It also doesn't even take into consideration their production over the entirety of their contract which is probably more important...it is just showing one year. Not saying a bunch of them would suddenly look better than Braun, but it is far more relevant than one year in the contract. I just don't get always trying to rationalize this contract by using other examples, especially when those examples are on teams with an incredible amount of payroll. A $15mil disaster contract is like a $30mil disaster for other teams. Like I said though I don't think the Braun contract is bad, but it still looks like something we would have been better off without. I don't think people are really calling it a disaster anymore. He still has another year on it though and if we is more like his first half self then that is really going to hurt. If he is more like his overall 2019 numbers then I think we will shrug it off looking back.

I hope you guys realize WAR doesn't actually equal wins. A teams total WAR varies from about 10-65. Or at least that is what it appears like on Fangraphs. Going off WAR the Astros won 65 games, us about 32, and the Marlins were a stellar 10 win team. If you look at ours each WAR was actually worth about 2.7 wins. So a .7 difference between Shaw and Hiura was worth 1.8999 wins. Considering we arguably punted the last game because it meant nothing you could argue, yes, Hiura getting sent down arguably costed them the division...or a shot at it. Of course we will never know what impact that may or may not have had in reality. He could have batted terribly in moments it mattered (or fielded horribly) costing us multiple games, not actually helping us. You also could play the what if game until the 2020 season starts with all the things we did wrong over the course of 162 games, the offseason prior, the deadline, and anything in between. That is if you really insist on using WAR to calculate wins...I wouldn't...but that is just me.

Who cares what other players did at the same cost. Just because another team was dumb doesn't make us being dumb okay. If it is a bad contract it is a bad contract we should learn from. If we want to win a World Series bad contracts are not going to help or being like other teams. We need to be smarter than teams with big payrolls that can handle poor contracts. THAT being said the Braun contract is probably not going to be a big deal if he repeats his 2019 next year. It won't be great production for the money, but 2 WAR? Yah, that is a productive starter so hard to complain. I think we got a tad lucky his big contract ended up covering mostly non competing years or the start of the upswing where his salary ended up not really being a big burden on overall payroll. For instance next year we can just backload a players contract if it is honestly that big of a deal, though backloading is pretty uncommon. I think this would have been a bigger deal had we started our rebuild when many thought we should have. If we started rebuilding in 2013 and were competing by say 2015/2016 then we would have had a larger payroll by 2017. It really would have been a bit annoying even if he was still semi productive like he is now. I hope he can be decent at 1B because he could be a solid option in 2021 IF he continues to hit next year. The option for 2021 only costs $11mil...which may make sense depending on our situation.

I feel a bit better using guys in roles they are used to vs. tossing starters out there mid game. The later is much more unpredictable and guys have struggled in such a role in the past.

I think a lot of it comes down to the ace on those pitching staffs. If they pitch like aces, almost impossible to beat as those guys pitch 2 games in each series. They can hand you two losses by themselves essentially. On the flip side when they pitch bad, that is crippling. You look at why the Dodgers haven’t won, Kershaw. He has been a 6.50+ ERA 0-2 pitcher in three huge postseason series in his career and overall really just not that great. He is the main guy and the team often sinks with him.
