  1. Trouble with this scenario is that the Cardinals almost assuredly have everything clinched heading into their final series against the Cubs and will be trotting out their AAA rosters for 3 games. They would have to extend their lead on us. 3 game lead means they still gotta play serious at least the first game. If we narrow it to two games then they have to play serious every game except the last. I also don’t think it is a given the Cubs sweep anyone at this point...they are struggling a lot.
  2. That started out...fantastic. Probably not going to run over them the entire game though.
  3. No, way. Biggest disappointment has got to be Aguilar or Shaw. Probably Shaw as no one would have ever guessed he would go from one of the better 3B to can’t hit anything period. Burnes was a young pitcher with little track record. Him struggling isn’t a huge shock. Big disappointment, but I think a slugger falling off the map completely at 29 was bigger. Though I understand some had crazy expectation for Burnes.
  4. This is looking pretty darn close. Really messed up not picking them as World Series Champs.
  5. This is wonderful news, looks like it might get done. Lyles Woodruff Houser Burnes, that’s some serious talent in the rotation moving forward. This pitching staff might not need much upgrading after all. Lots of options for Stearns this offseason. Do we take the option on Anderson or save the 8.5? Keep or trade Davies? Try to re-sign Gio? Sign another FA pitcher for the rotation? I have said it before, but I almost feel it is an afterthought they are declining the option on Anderson (or trading him if someone wants him for that price). They could sign a Lyles/Gio for similar money I’d imagine, worst case. They simply don’t like Anderson. Very rarely letting him go more than 4/5 innings even when cruising. They don’t want a pitcher who only goes two times through the line up making 30 starts. Only reason it happened this year is by need. I don’t see them paying $8.5mil to stash him in the pen if we need him due to serious need again. They seem to like Lyles and trust him a lot more. I fully expect the Anderson money to go into a different rotation arm this winter. Be that Lyles or someone else. I don’t think I’d expect a return of Gio...much like Anderson the leash is very short on him. I could be wrong, but I feel at the $8mil price tag they will find someone they like more.
  6. Cubs elimination number down to just 7 games
  7. I was about to say "because he's a catcher." But when you think about it, that bat would play as a nearly full time 1B, and it isn't like he'd be blocking anyone. Okay...but we don’t really need a 1B. Why would you sign him elite catcher money to put him somewhere he won’t be that special. Wouldn’t we want our affordable .800+ OPS Thames at 1B and then Grandal at C to be elite? Why would we sign him to put him anywhere else?
  8. Just address it with moose and Grandal. And be done with it. Do we have any ss in minors that can be here soon. Go that route Sometimes Arcia pulls his head out of his you know what. Maybe he will do it again next year What if Grandal gets 3/4 year offers? Can and should we really be spending money on that? For a 30+ year old catcher? That could be an instant disaster with the fickle catcher position. I mean if Grandal is a nice short term option different story, but can’t assume that.
  9. Personally I’d let Grandal walk if someone is pulling out a big multi year contract. I like a return of Moustakas because the cost will likely be reasonable once again for what he provides. I’d like to see an Arcia replacement if they can find a reasonable upgrade. I do not want a Mercer/Castro...I’d leave him be at that point. BUT then I’d be a little nervous with letting Grandal walk, tough as that would be I’d probably look to improving the pitching versus giving a big deal to Grandal. I mean really the answer depends on pricing. I’m pretty much expecting/wanting a Moustakas signing because it should be a nice short term deal. Other moves it depends. I’d like to see two bats between 3B/C/SS. On another note Shaw is a goner. He is expensive so he will get non tendered...and despite his poor play I am sure he wasn’t exactly thrilled being here this year.
  10. Well by BRef WAR Didi is 4x better than Arcia...so I guess it’s all in how you view it. It also requires you to assume a player like that will actually become a free agent. You’re far more likely to end up with a guy like Mercer who gives you not much for a higher cost. Well I guess it is a good thing we get to find that out in the winter. Not like they really have to decide on Arcia the first day of the winter. They will offer him arbitration regardless. Really worst case you find something else and Arcia is a utility guy. Which previously I have mentioned them doing even if they find someone...keep him anyway. At least for next year when he is still cheap.
  11. Lol Coming from the guy that every time Braun shows up on the screen starts bowing in front of his TV. Can’t wait till the next Houser start, can’t imagine what you will post. Come on man, I don’t think you have room to speak. Brew4U: #RyanBraunForever Brew4U: Not a starter (Houser) Plush: 50 posts on how he hates Arcia and can’t wait until he’s off the team. Brew4u: Pokes fun at Plush Plush: Overreacts because he doesn’t take jokes very well and is overly sensitive about Arcia Annnnnnnd goooooooood niiiiiggggghhhht! Actually, I think you just overreacted for getting fun poked back at you. But carry on.
  12. Did I say I was expecting Machado? Nope An MLB player would be nice though. So slightly less terrible but way more expensive? Yippeee! Well by BRef WAR Didi is 4x better than Arcia...so I guess it’s all in how you view it. Not sure how cheap Arcia will be. As much as he has sucked he has still been a perennial starter for years. Jose Iglesias, for example, is having a comparable year to 2018 and got 1/$2.5mil. So not sure that is a lot more expensive even if he gets better offers.

  16. So what you're saying is that you're good with Saladino as the starting SS? Because that (or likely an equivalent) is what we are liking looking at. We aren't going to see Turang until sometime in 2021 at the earliest. There are multiple free agents better than both Arcia and Saladino.
  17. We scored two of our three runs on a Perez AB?
  18. Jeez, who is getting injured for that to happen? Free agent market for SSs is quite dismal looking. If we are tossing Arcia aside, Saladino might be the next man up. The only thing more dismal than the SS free agent market is our current SS. He has arguably been one of the Top 5 worst players in baseball the last two years that has started nearly every day. Of course trades are always possible too.
  19. The Nationals are 13-13 in Scherzer starts, including a 3-5 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers.
  20. Jeez, who is getting injured for that to happen?
  21. Chase Anderson in the 6th, third time through the order? Mind is blown.
  22. Where are you going Arcia??? Can’t wait till Stearns finds someone else to play SS. Stop running out that train wreck. Does something good and takes a lead halfway to 3B. That was on another planet of dumb.
  23. He hasn’t been two times through the order and the bottom is up next. Counsell would be pretty dumb to pull him, doesn’t make much sense.
  24. Really just a tough break. Just off his glove. Thought he could stretch for it...just missed. Gotta make a better throw.
