  1. Why are we trading Davies for Lance Lynn...and adding on our side of the deal? Think I would rather keep Davies, the extra players, and our money for something else.
  2. We are two games back still and not a lot of games. That means us getting 3 more wins than them to get it. If we are bullish and say we go 8-3 that means the Cardinals have to go 5-6 to AND the Cubs can only go 7-4 for us to win the division. That is possible if we go 8-3, but good luck if we win any less than that. At that point you are looking at a Game 163 at best in my opinion.
  3. Heimlich was at least a minor himself too and there is enough gray area to maybe where you could make it work. If I remember correctly he claimed it was bad legal advice that caused him to plead guilty thus avoiding jail time. And I don't think there is really much known outside of the fact he pleaded guilty. He also continued to play at Oregon State after the matter so somehow a college accepted him so it was feasible a MLB team might do the same. The Royals Gm actually wanted to do it and publicly defended Heimlich. Of course the backlash was bad and it didn't happen. For the record Heimlich pitches in the Mexican league. I believe he tried Taiwan, but the league blocked it...I thought the Mexican league did the same before allowing him. With Vasquez you have a 26-28 year old going after a 13-15 year old...with what seems indisputable evidence. Not much gray area or unknowns with that and pretty much impossible to defend someone well in their mid 20s. I am not defending Heimlich or hinting any team should have signed him...just pointing out how that situation was arguably better than Vasquez. I also don't really believe he was just taking bad legal advice, but thus, can't really prove it either way. So if Heimlich couldn't latch on being a MAJOR LHP prospect then I don't see how Vasquez can rebound from this. At least Heimlich could have been hidden in the minors for years and not instantly on the MLB team. Though Vasquez may be in prison and/or banned from the country...the chance to know may never happen.
  4. Yah, it is simply too early to know because they have some many games against each other to go. It can make quite a difference.
  5. A three way tie would be an absolute nightmare because no team is likely to have a better record against the other two teams. The Cardinals have been beat up pretty bad so far by the Cubs so they likely lose that head to head series. That means: Cardinals over Brewers/Cubs over Cardinals/Brewers over Cubs. This means no team gets a simple tiebreaker to have preference. That being said the Cubs likely will have the better record when it comes to their head to head matchups with the other teams in the tiebreaker....thus Cubs get preference. That means: We travel to the Cardinals to play Game 163. I think, regardless of the winner, that team travels to Wrigley to play their Game 164. The winner of that game gets the NL Central Title and the loser gets the WC birth. If we hold both the WC spots then even the original Game 163 loser gets a spot. If the Nationals are also tied with us:
  6. Junior Guerra has been solid this year. Before the season I thought he would be a key to a stable pen. He hasn't been as good as I was hoping, but certainly a contributor. One thing with Guerra in the second half: He has not given up multiple runs in an outing since July 17th. He has only done it twice in the second half all together. Guerra would probably be viewed a lot more positively if our offense was not continuously handing the bullpen one run games to cling onto. When guys go out there and give up multiple runs in an inning, that is what breaks the camel's back.
  7. Considering the last two recruiting classes this one is pretty nice for Wisconsin. They already have a 4 star commit for 2021 too. This one could get even better and be arguably their best class in god knows how long if Carlson were to come to Wisconsin. I am sure everyone and their entire family is praying for Patrick Baldwin Jr. in 2021. Since I don't follow the Badgers religiously I am not sure on their chances of either of those players...I am guessing Baldwin Jr. is more of a pipe dream than realistic. Never know though I guess.
  8. Cool story, not happening. We cannot get even remotely close to affording Cole and that ignores the fact we need money for other problems too.
  9. Well going into Friday with the standings like this would be nice...If the Cardinals lose today and we win....my oh my that would be crazy not even taking into consideration the possibility of the Cubs losing too. Regardless I hope to be within one of the Cardinals by the time PIT is in town, that would be ideal.
  10. Lol so we got one inning of Suter and got Gio out early when he was cruising to get Albers in? Wow
  11. Woodruff, Suter, hopefully Hader is needed. Hard to get comfortable at the plate if you are a Padres hitter.
  12. We have hosting rights in any tie situation, right? Whether that be a Game 163, Game 164, or WC game?
  13. People in prison will ruin you over child crimes, especially sexual in nature. That's people in prison for hard crimes, sometimes murder. MLB will not accept him back and even if they don't ban him teams will give him the Bonds/Colin K etc. kind of treatment where no one will sign him regardless. This wasn't just a child...this was someone 13 years old. That is beyond sketch, that's just disgusting and you can't play the "well I didn't know" card or any other excuse. If true, which it appears that way...he is a goner.
  14. He didn't just want a woman. He wanted a child. Like, he isn't mentally right.
  15. With that many early draft picks in hand and the cap space they've got, Miami's GM Chris Grier will have his fate in his own hands. The Steelers 2020 first rounder that he obtained might end up being really high in the round. And to think theirs will be #1 overall so they won't have to package any to get their QB. That is pretty insane.
  16. His chances were dead the second the ball hit his knee cap. I doubt the Brewers performance changes it much either direction. I’d argue making the postseason would actually help him more than us straight sucking.
  17. Similar to Chase Anderson, he gives up a lot of homeruns (with the majority 15 out of 22 occurring on the road this season). However, he doesn't walk many batters which allows him to stick around in games. Should be interesting. Yup, pretty similar to Anderson. Limits walks and hits...also has good strikeout numbers. That allows him to give up more homers than average and keep a lower ERA as you can imagine most are harmless solo or 2-run homers. He seems like 2017 Chase Anderson. As you mentioned his homer prone ways allows him to be notably better at home than on the road.
  18. The most confusing part is they are giving up their golden ticket draft pick that would allow them to get their QB of the future. What are you going to do now? Pick once with your 2nd round pick...good luck. I just don't get that at all. Seems they are going to try and win it all with Big Ben 1-2 more times. Which coming off the injury and his age is borderline dumb. I think they are grasping at their relevancy only to get some disappointing years before they have to tank for the QB...something they could have now instead of 3-4 years from now. Or...maybe they try and get lucky outside of the first round getting a QB. Good luck on that goal though.
  19. Where are the 8 year deals? Where is the pitcher comparable to Gerritt Cole on any recent open market? Age and production? I can find two now...Scherzer and Price. Both got 7 year deals. Even then both were a year older than Cole, which is a big deal. And still, no 7+ year deals. Umm, you can underline that plus sign all day long if you would like...I think it helps detract from the fact I never said he was getting 8 years even though you want to make it seem like I did. David Price signed for 7 years after finishing in the top 2 in Cy Young votings 3 times I forgot about him, thanks for another solid example. Also you missed something reading my first post "And likely costs us 7+ years in FA.". So yah, totally said with 100% absolute certainty Cole was going to get 7+ years. But nitpick away if you would like. I don't see the point in citing examples of guys who don't hold a candle stick to what Cole has done recently or ignoring his age as to why he won't get 7+ years. If guys notably worse and older are getting 5-6 years Cole should be able to find 7 years easily. He is the cream of the crop this year and the fact players like him have rarely hit the open market should be highly beneficial. The market has suppressed older aging free agents...not sub 30 guys like Cole (and not as elite). I also have zero idea what Harper/Machado projecting to get 2 years before free agency has anything to do with this conversation. A) This is a month of baseball before FA and B) Harper/Machado both had a huge change of course in those two years to give a strong reason why they didn't get that much. Harper specifically went from soon to be best in baseball to above average and struggling. I mean you don't have to agree with me, but don't start twisting my words and leaving things out to make it seem like my argument was something way different.
  20. I am just glad I can stop listening to people claim the Brewers, "always choke in the second half/September". It wasn't even a factually true statement and thankfully the last three years have helped put that to bed.
  21. I think you hope Washington can win that series in all honesty. Washington plays the Marlins after tomorrow. They very well may end up having a 4-3 week even if they get swept. Cardinals on the other hand could easily go 3-4 or worse if they lose the Nationals series. Trying to cheer for a WC birth just seems so lame and boring. I would rather have a good chance to gain ground on both versus just hoping one team freefalls. I fully expect us to go 5-2 this week at worst so we could find ourselves within a game of all three of the Nationals/Cardinals/Cubs. I would feel pretty confident we could do better the last week than at least one of those teams. Now if the Cards win tonight (especially if we lose too) then yah...I am probably just hoping the Nationals get swept. Though it seems just a touch to early to really cheer for another team when the door is so wide open for three different postseason spots. I am sure after the Cubs/Cards series this week we will have a good idea who to really pull for in different games...BUT maybe not.
  22. I’m actually more annoyed than I should be after you saying that. My man....it would have been too great.
