  1. Why on Earth would anyone want to protect a draft pick position when they are one game out of the playoffs with 19 to go? They aren't going to move up significantly in the draft either way. The odds of getting a significantly better player with the 18th pick vs the 25th is less than the odds of this team making a deep playoff run even with Yelich out. Why on earth would someone not want to make the postseason? A franchise that is starved of postseason appearances and a fan doesn't want to get in because he doesn't believe in the roster? Pish posh. Why must so many fans WANT the team to do poorly? Why even be a fan? They would get what they want if the players had the same poor attitude. I don't think they do though.
  2. If a receivers gives himself up, the play should be blown dead, regardless of if he's touched. Yah, this is by definition how it is. The DB is still stupid for touching him...you should just hope the refs let it go. That being said I think it is highly unlikely the refs would allow 2 seconds to burn off and call the game in that situation. They likely would correct it and add the time back on. Who knows though...the DB made it really easy.
  3. They can be, record wise. On paper it is a big blow, but in reality the impact is impossible to know. We don't know how well he would have hit to end the season or how meaningful his production would have even been. Him hitting 3 homers when we lose 15-5 means nothing. It also means nothing if the same situation happened in a game where we win 15-1. We also don't know how well his replacement will or won't hit...they could put up MVP numbers over a few weeks. This isn't football, he isn't a QB. Him playing good doesn't equal wins every time. They are nearly a .500 team when he starts and a near 100 win team when he doesn't. Baseball is a team sport the actual impact of an MVP player can be real fickle. So yeah, they can be just as good...heck they could end up better for all we know. It is such a small sample of games.
  4. I think it's just frustration. Most fans are already bummed enough tonight without the immediate worst case scenario unfounded speculation. I was really referring to their reality of not being very good and how a team with such a bad run differential has never made it (which technically isn’t final). Even if they do make it such a team with a negative run differential even sniffing the WS once in is quite a pipe dream...so really, how upsetting can this be even if it were to “derail the season”. Which by itself really can’t. It’s not my prediction...nor am I really saying that is what I think. Just that when you look at it at face value the odds are incredibly stacked against us not only to get in, but to win games once there. The average person has been calling the season over short of a miracle for a long time. Heck people have written off WS for months.
  5. We really should be glad this happened in September where 99% of his recovery will be in the winter and not in May/June/July where he still would have been out for months and likely would have come back to be rusty for any part of the later year he might have played in. Maybe I’d think otherwise if this team was a dominate force, but since they need some historical miracle to make the postseason let alone win it all...this is likely harmless in the bigger picture of winning a WS etc. this could be way worse.
  6. People are going to go complete doomsday, but I think the Brewers can still make the postseason. Yelich is one guy and there isn’t much season left...he could have OPSd’ .800 the rest of the year for all we know. Small sample results can get fluky, the rest of the season is a small sample. His main replacement has an OPS north of 1.000 the last week, you just don’t know...much like Ace Lyles has been with us. Don’t get me wrong I’d much rather have Yelich healthy, but he is one guy. They are 11-7 without him this year. That is 99 win pace if you are curious. He is not the magical man worth 20 wins like it is made out to be sometimes. We can and have won without him.
  7. So I am reading this correctly that the female is suing him and has not (yet) filed criminal charges? So she wants money and no criminal charges? Maybe I’m not reading it right...but that is my understanding.
  8. The scariest part was Grisham wasn’t running to 3rd immediately...a good throw would have gotten an out and kept Grisham at 2B from the looks of it. Can’t imagine why he wasn’t running full bore to 3rd Maybe he froze when the ball ended up halfway to 3rd...idk, hard to tell.
  9. That’s what you get for giving a cookie to a 3-0 swinger. Just walk him and move onto the next garbage hitter in the lineup.
  10. I don’t think they can trace what was actually sent though...just that the exchange happened. Which make it pretty useless...especially so when they texted normally (for a long time) as is. Not like Brown is claiming to not know her.
  11. Texts (emails?) are out there on the interwebs now. As in I’d like to see her provide that information in her lawsuit. I don’t care to literally see them myself... I mean these are some serious allegations, not your typical run of the mill sexual assault cases you see these days.
  12. The number of pitchers is meaningless in the bullpen. They are going to use the best guys as often as possible when they lead. They are maxing the innings on their “good” arms in the pen. Not like we are going to use AAA fodder in the 5th and 6th to bridge the gap.
  13. The timing is way too convenient...I would like to see the texts where he bragged about it. Pretty lofty accusations.
  14. There is a video on MLB.com He is in pain, but looks like it will just be a bruise. Not sure the timetable on that though.
  15. No. He wasn't even able to walk down the dugout steps. Not sure what you were watching, but that is simply false. He walked down the steps under his own power with a little bit of a limp. You kinda make it sound like he was carried to the clubhouse even if that isn’t what you meant.
  16. Maybe if Coan was a Soph....but he is a junior. I can't really see Mertz leaving to sit out a year and start somewhere else. Might as well sit behind Coan again and stay in the same system. For some reason I don't see Coan being good enough to beat out Mertz next season. Partially because I don't see them bringing in a hyped up QB (best ever for WI) and then sitting him two years in a row. If he is even remotely close to Coan or better he probably will be the guy. If Coan is the starter again maybe Mertz is just overhyped?
  17. I think that a good year from Coan makes the 2020 decision a lot easier. I think it just makes it tough to put Mertz on the bench another year. All the hype he gets in Wisconsin that is a rough picture to paint.
  18. There is not a strong correlation between a new stadium and franchise value. I did a bit of research and it looks like it may be worth a 10% or so increase to a team valuation on top of whatever the normal increase for that year is. Money wise that wasn't a ton back when Miller Park was built. The real money maker was the "new stadium" excitement. That was worth waaaay more than the paltry increase to team value. Coincidently he sold the team after 4 years or so...probably when the new stadium excitement revenue started to die off. I didn't dig too deep because it was a hard task as is and unless you want to take Forbes like it is everything that matters you can't really get a great gauge on it. I guess what I am trying to say is the franchise did not increase 400% because of a new stadium...not even in the same dimension. If he was after money it was for short term revenue spikes.
