  1. I’d put the odds at 0%. It wouldn’t have been even slightly close. They could have thrown it to the backstop and still probably gotten him at home.
  2. The only way Arcia is the SS is if they spend money and prospects on other positions and by default we stick with Arcia. Though if Arcia is arby eligible next year he isn’t exactly priceless anymore.
  3. I can say as someone who's dealt with seizures for about 12 years, most of seizure treatment is trying combinations of drugs to see what works. When something doesn't work or stops working, they try something else. A lot of prescribing is guessing what works, and trying different dosing levels, and when something stops working, or doesn't work, it can be super frustrating. Marijuana is pretty effective for dealing with seizures, regardless of the legality of it. When you're dealing with health issues and doctors are literally just guessing, and you're getting frustrated, I can understand where the guy is coming from. I’m not doubting Jeffress went through a lot and marijuana isn’t a good cure...but he wasn’t diagnosed back then and it didn’t really seem like he was seeking a doctor to help. It sounded like he was just trying to self treat some problems. I don’t think it was a case of getting no answers from doctors and he just got frustrated. But it was pretty vague back then and when it got brought up after his success it wasn’t really a detailed story either. On another note I have always wondered the number of people who drive out of Miller Park drunk. I’d imagine it would be way more than I would want to know. Really generically speaking 6 beers for a 225 pound guy is going to put him right on the brink of safe/not safe if he started when gates open. That ain’t much. I mean people are worried about drinking problems for a player and I probably know more people with a drinking problem than not. Wisconsin is horrid for drinking problems, he should fit right in if you ask me. It’s like drunk driving is almost socially acceptable in this state.
  4. I'm sorry but using marijuana to cope with epilepsy and doing steroids have no business being compared to allegations of drugging and raping a woman. A) Was he found guilty of that, no. B) Jeremy Jeffress has a DUI and went to rehab after it...one can come to the conclusion he had a drinking problem and that likely wasn't the first time. C) He was caught for marijuana three times before he was diagnosed. Once he got diagnosed they essentially suggested the marijuana use was possibly him self-medicating for his seizures/anxiety. Regardless of the truthness to that self medicating with drugs not exactly right...as he clearly has medication that is legal now I would assume. D) Ryan Braun committed fraud and if he was doing PEDs from his time in Miami/college (entirely plausible) he did it to the tune of about $150mil in contracts by cheating...then of course all his model citizen behavior after that. Now of course such fraud isn't a crime and teams aren't allowed to back out contracts for it...but when you think about it, pretty messed up (potentially). All I am trying to say is we don't exactly have a team that is 100% model citizens and historically you could pull up a lot of names too...most notably Francisco Rodriquez. Please spare me the nitpicking about how Kang is worse etc. etc. etc. If he was actually found guilty of drugging and raping someone, a little different of a story. Obviously that is on a whole new level of messed up and he wouldn't even be able to play baseball anymore.
  5. I find it weird everyone is freaking out here when we currently have Jeremy Jeffress and Ryan Braun on this team.
  6. They tried really hard to make people use the zipper correctly on that construction. But it is like telling people not to smoke because it will give them cancer. They will do the wrong thing anyway.
  7. It is, but not exactly shocking as most old industrial cities are pretty big disasters. More on topic the Brewers stay downtown somewhere in Chicago. I swear someone mentioned the hotel recently on here. St Louis is hit or miss. Teams either stay at the Ritz or some stay at the Westin (right across the street). I recall an incident happening there and now teams tend to take the drive to the Ritz instead.
  8. Ha, you forgot Peralta/Burnes absolutely imploding and going from useful to useless. Or the fact that Stearns made zero real moves to improve at the deadline. If I was told all that I would probably assume we ended the season with like 75 wins max.
  9. Do you think that the qualifying offer reimbursement is the only reason he didn't get an offer like that last year? I had heard the Mets made him an offer, but I didn't think it was that big. While he's having a solid season, I don't know if he's done a ton to raise his value significantly. He is a year older and honestly hasn't been doing any better than previous years. I will say his stats haven't been good at Miller Park and downright horrid at some NL Central parks that are hitter friendly. I think it is reasonable to expect even more if he came back or at the very least similar production. I would think 3/$40mil is a lot more realistic for him to max out at.
  10. That Derek Holland pitch was probably the most glorious thing since the postseason last year...just a real beautiful pitch. I am really sick of people constantly talking about how the Cubs are better though. Heard it all last year and it gets preached even more to just assume we can't win the division. I don't really care what teams look like on paper. It is mid-August and we are a measly game back. Clearly they aren't that much better. The problem is there is no team in the central that is going to dominate and pull away...it is just incredibly unlikely. The only team that really has shown the ability to get on a big roll is the Cardinals and both times they did so it was followed up by big slumps. Honestly I am expecting two teams to slightly pull away eventually when one team kinda flops at the end.
  11. I just figured that’s all they have in that dump of a city. You know I don't think fans of a team in Milwaukee can really call another city a dump. Milwaukee is probably one of the Top 5 biggest dumps in the United States...and Chicago ain't anywhere near being one of the ones worse.
  12. In a FA landscape that is now starting to pay for future performance and not past performance...yah, it isn't too good. Coming off a bad year at 33 years old is not going to be taken very nicely. Not when you have to pay $15mil+ a year for ages 34-36. Teams are no longer paying for what players did in their prime.
  13. This day in 2012 Felix Hernandez tossed the last perfect game in history. This is notable because three balls total were hit to RF and the first play of the game was a fairly tough out for the RF to get. Eric Thames everyone. A pitcher managed a perfect game with Eric Thames playing RF.
  14. You guys are really sadly mistaken if you think we wouldn't have to eat a big chunk of money to dump Cain. All defense, no offensive players are not highly valued. Billy Hamilton got 1/$5.5mil last offseason from a garbage team that probably signed him hoping he would miraculously figure it out at 28 years old and to put a "flashy" player out there. Now Cain is definitely better than Hamilton, but really that is the same concept Cain is this year...defense, no offense. I also don't think any team is going to put huge stock into him being "unlucky". People have been using that excuse for Braun three years now and he has not reverted back to All Star numbers like advanced stats say he should put up if he wasn't so unlucky. Simply imagine Cain hitting the open market this winter, what do you think he is going to get? Mind you he is coming off a year in which he put up zero offense and his only value was defense. Keep in mind he is going to be 34(!) years old. First off he is getting a one year deal. No one is giving a multi year deal to a 34 year old OF who may provide nothing on offense. So what? 1/$12mil from a team figuring the defense gives him a high floor and he may rebound a bit offensively? If he gets a two year deal it probably isn't over $8-$10mil a year. Which in my opinion is a pretty bullish prediction. We would have to at least eat the last year of that deal just to get rid of him, likely more to expect anything useful in return. Doing that still assumes the acquiring team values him at about 2/$30mil...not to sure about that. Might as well keep him and hope he rebounds.
  15. If Nelson can make himself look even half relevant either in AAA or the MLB level by the end of the year I am sure they will pay him the ~$3.7mil to come back. If he doesn't they may still offer him arby and bring him into ST with the option of dumping him if he looks terrible then too.
  16. Id rather resign Moustakas, Grandal, a starter, and buy a Hershey bar over Rendon. Probably a similar cost. I’d take Rendon on his own easily over Moose + Grandal + Hershey’s bar. He’s an elite hitter and great defender. His cost makes it unlikely, but imagining him hitting in the #3 hole behind Yelich (or #2 in a Grisham/Rendon/Yelich/Hiura 1-4) has me drooling. He’s on pace to account for more WAR than Moose and Grandal combined this year. MVP-type talent. Does a bottom of the order that is: Thames Shaw Pina Arcia Pitcher also have you drooling? Because that is what it would be if spent money to get Rendon.
