  1. Two that I thought were decent options: 8MVP22 HDRADE
  2. What is really tiring is the fact some always seem to start complaining in moaning after not spending on a specific player in December or in freakin' June. We have till the end of July to make moves to improve this team and it is quite likely one or more of those moves will add quite a bit to this current payroll. I just don't get complaining about payroll and how much we spend on any given year when there is still nearly two months to add significant payroll if seen fit. It is all fine and dandy to feel like we have more payroll space, but why act like it is August 1st when it isn't? There is more time and Kimbrel was not the only person available this year. R-E-L-A-X people. I trust this management to spend money if they need to and make moves mid-season to make a push. It is completely fine if we miss out on the first major addition...I would rather be wise than first.
  3. Boston couldn’t bring him back, 45 million contact would have cost them extra 23 million, because of the tax, the reports are saying his workouts in front of scouts and executives were “electric “ We will see how he pitches, maybe he has been or maybe it is a lot of hot air. People talked up Nelson countless times the last month. That didn’t really translate today.
  4. So what exactly are you guessing to be their payroll? Long term and short term? You seem to act like they are severely undercutting what they could be spending? I guess I find it questionable and debatable how much a postseason run/competitive team adds to a bottom line that a team would be willing to bank on happening in a given season. I find $140mil to be a conservative realistic number...but if you were bullish on competing adding crazy money $150mil isn’t out of the question. Also the Crew doesn’t have a new TV deal yet last I checked.
  5. I was referring to the likes of Haudricourt who were acting like our $125mil payroll was insane and comparing it to our nearly decade old prior record. And yes I believe they could run a payroll of $140mil short term in competitive years. However I don’t and never preached it like a fact nor did I freak out every time they didn’t spend money complaining they were being cheap. Also Kimbrel was $15mil a year and no offense I bet Cubs>Brewers in his mind. So I bet we would have had to pony up more like $18mil to get him. Couple that with other eventual moves this season I think it is reasonable to wonder if they could afford that big of a move mid season.
  6. It’s not Stearns, it’s attanasio, not wanting the payroll to reach a certain point. The Brewers want us to think we’re still small market, revenue wise, even though we’re closer to the average mid-market than small market. They have haudricourt & most of brewerfan thinking they can only do a payroll of 125-135 million, when in reality with there playoffs last year they could of done much more this year, and more next year and even more the following year. Of course that’s just my opinion, but it’s based on tons of thought and analysis. Now back to the game. You seem to think you are a Harvard grad and the worlds expert on baseball financials. When in reality this entire forums knowledge put together would be about a penny compared to a million dollars. Anyone here can pretend to think they now a sliver about who can afford what and how this effects that...but really we know nothing. If you ever write a paper on all those thoughts and analysis you have done I’d like to see it. Because whatever it is never seems to make it into your posts. And I’m serious...cause it would be interesting if all that analysis on why we can afford tens of million more a year actually exists. Cause no one else on this planet seems to think that way. Cause I don’t understand how an average joe could know so much about financials no one outside an organization knows.
  7. The only thing that could make this night worse is the Cubs making a move to make their team better.
  8. It should be prorated if 3/45. Whatever he agreed to get paid this year will have money shaved off for what portion of the season he missed. At least it usually gets reported that way and then someone eventually says they didn’t pay “X” amount because he wasn’t with the team all year. It might actually be $40mil through 2021...all depends on how they are reporting the contract.
  9. I am not a fan of the commercials between battlers that awkwardly make Brian Anderson’s job weird for 10 seconds and then .25 seconds after it ends a pitch is delivered.
  10. Yea he would. Wasn’t he traded for Webb, who made like a handful of appearances out of the pen? Yah, though I’m pretty sure Cooper was an eventual lost cause in offseason so kind of irrelevant. But still sucks to see when our RHB at 1B has been just horrible. Sucks when a 6th round pick (high pick due to bonus pool saving alert...I think) never gets a chance for your team and seems to have found success elsewhere.
  11. If I was Nelson the first time I swing I would grimace in pain and grab my shoulder to troll the entire fan base.
  12. Haha poor fielding, poor throwing, and poor base running. Real good start to the day. At least we aren’t alone in our suckitude, looking at you ump.
  13. Man not only did Cain have a crud throw when a decent one gets the out he got hurt on it? My oh my
  14. AGAIN > Wilkerson has NEVER started 2 games in a row, so how do we know what he’d do IF FINALLY given 2-3 starts? 6-7 innings is what’s needed OCCASIONALLY from starters other than Davies, and we’re not getting that. That is because of how the team is ran. They simply are too willing to go to the pen early or at first sign of trouble.
  15. Chase Anderson has been taken out with a pitch count of 83 or less 3 times and with a pitch count of about 95 twice. The dude hasn't even hit 100 pitches in a game, but pitch count is the reason he is getting taken out early? Yah, not sure I am buying that argument. Yes, throwing 20 pitches every inning is going to tire you, but I think Anderson can manage 100 pitches either way. Regardless I would rather have him throw 4-5 innings of good baseball vs. Chacin throwing a grand ole 4.75 innings on average of trash baseball...just for example. Which is probably similar to what Wilkerson could manage. I mean honestly, you guys think Wilkerson is going to fair better? The same guy who was already sent away once for sucking on the MLB roster? You think Counsell, who won't give Anderson a leash, will let Wilkerson go 6 innings all the time? I think not.
  16. You know what actually feels bad? Giving up a ton of runs in a bunch of game enroute to a 5+ game losing streak. 17 runs in one loss, cool story, one game. If this was football I would care because getting destroyed usually means your team is total garbage. Baseball? It was an off day at the park. Avoid making it 4 more losses in a row and it won't even matter.
  17. Even if he was bad, so what. It was one game and still sports an ERA of about 3.75 on the year while starting. He had actually only given up one homer prior to yesterday starting in five games...not too shabby. People then say, "Oh there is the Anderson we all know and love, get him out of the rotation" What? The one that had a 3.93 ERA last year starting despite nightmare HR totals? Starters don't grow on trees, especially ones that can give sub 4 ERA baseball for 150+ innings. Anderson may not be a TOR arm or even mid rotation, but he puts up good numbers for a #4 or #5. You are going to be hard pressed to find five guys that will actually outperform him over the long haul of a full season. Now I don't really have a problem if they replace him with Chacin when he return in hopes he can rebound closer to his 2018 self, but sending him to the pen in favor of Wilkerson seems confusing at best. Why would you not give the guy with a successful track record the rotation spot and have the AAAA guy go be long man?
  18. I know people hate Anderson...but one bad start out of six and we want to dump him back to the bullpen for...Wilkerson? I mean jeez, the dude has an ERA south of 4 and has had never had a season with us that it was over 4. That sounds pretty good in the rotation, certainly not someone deserving of being replaced by AAAA fodder after a bad start.
  19. Aguilar being out of the picture really doesn't help Hiura that much. Either Shaw or Moustakas is going to play 2B most of the time so Hiura would be on the bench unless a LH throws. Either way he wouldn't be playing on a regular basis. Better to go down and play almost every day. If Stearns could get something decent for either Shaw or Thames, the problem is solved. Why? Is there a reason Shaw can't play first? In his career he has played essentially an entire season there and has 3 errors. Errors aren't everything, but clearly he isn't some smoking disaster there. In 2016 and 2018 combined he had 350 innings of errorless baseball. I think he would be perfectly fine there. Yes, Thames/Shaw both at 1B isn't the most logistical roster move, but I would rather have that than the waste of space Aguilar on the roster if it comes to that. If Thames' bat warrants playing time it is easy to shuffle guys around to stick him in the OF if need be. Isn't like our OF is all that impressive. Despite a few big hits that make some think otherwise Ben Gamel is not that special and exactly what he has always been and Ryan Braun is a 35 year old human again. If you don't want Thames or Shaw against a lefty you could either stick Perez at 1B or Moustakas then Perez at 3B. Thames/Shaw at first base reminds me of (2011?) when we had zero lefties in the pen, but hey...if your best pitchers are righties then just have all righties. No reason to conform to the norm just to do it.
