  1. Yawn. You make knee jerk reactions just as much as anyone on this site, only with way more bravado. That was really insightful, cool story.
  2. Lol people always find a way to complain about Chase Anderson over homers. Yet last and up to this point this year has a sub 4 ERA. Actually in his first 5 starts this year sub 3 ERA with ONE HOMER given up. Some people just love to make a whipping boy and pick one stat to run with. Chase Anderson can be the tater king if they are mostly solo homers. Which looking at last year was no fluke when he limited hits and walks. But sure get that guy out of there and put him in the bullpen where he gave up 7x as many homers. Don’t mind Jhoulys Chacin with his near 6 ERA and I believe a similar HR rate as a starter even after tonight.
  3. I am sorry, but how can anyone possibly think using our winning percentage before and after Hiura after 17 games actually holds any water? I mean lets be real guys...that is really stretching it.
  4. Milwaukee is too small to allow our beat writers to get testy in m opinion. I don't think they can afford to tick of the Brewers management.
  5. Well Shaw was an atrocity in spring training was he not? Not saying it makes it more or less meaningful...just interesting. Shaw was good at the end of his rehab assignment. Once he got past his first 4 games or so he started settling in. Walks started, Ks dropped, and then he got hits.
  6. The priority for the Brewers should be winning major league baseball games. By all appearances and measureables, sending Hiura away weakens the major league roster and runs contradictory to that goal. 1) Shaw comes back and hits. 2) Aguilar is dumped. 3) Hiura comes back in a few weeks. Brewers are better.
  7. I mean looking at stats this year, you would think so...but I think Ray is still the better prospect thanks to his ceiling. If he keeps it up all year he would likely surpass Ray on prospect lists. I don't think a few good months does that though. Which speaking of Ray he had a pretty big breakout year himself last year and has plopped back down to earth this year. So maybe it is too soon to really know how legit the resurgence is. Grisham is also repeating AA this year so that might be aiding into his breakout a touch. I just remember Grisham's balloon get deflated by people really quick when he never hit for a very good average. He was suppose to be an uber contact oriented guy if I remember right. I also recall him being labeled a tweener where he wouldn't be good enough to play CF and not have the power for the corner spots. Obviously the power surge will do well for his MLB potential as it make him a more conventional corner outfielder. With his OBP skills he doesn't really need to have that great of an AVG. I would hope they keep both. One of them is a likely Ryan Braun replacement in 2021. Keep both and see who works out. I would expect Tyrone Taylor or Troy Stoke Jr. to be traded to make room on the 40 man. I think you could dump Taylor one way or the other and keep all of Stokes Jr, Ray, and Grisham.
  8. I have questioned them actually dropping him in favor of Shaw on the roster (because it makes us forced to start a LHB at 1B or 3B all the time)...however looking at stats Moustakas has sported a ~.740 OPS against lefties the last few years. They could definitely stick Moustakas at 3B and Perez at 1B, or the other way around. This is not the greatest situation, but it wouldn't force us a total hack with the bat when we face lefties. Then at the deadline they could be a tad more bold and trade Thames in favor of finding a more sensible platoon partner at 1B.
  9. Can he though? Aguilar has been the biggest pile of dinosaur dung this year and Braun has yet to appear there. I am just really questioning the validity of Braun being an option there.
  10. Which means he gets slammed and our offense musters a few solo homers at best, right? I am keeping my mood calm. I wish him luck and hope he can do well tomorrow and the rest of the year. But coming back from injury is hard enough. Let alone a major injury where he was gone this long and had such a lengthy rehab.
  11. Silly to assume like it is 100% due to service time. Why did he even come up in the first place if service time was that big of an issue? Why go through all of this and tick off Hiura/the fanbase for a short stint just to dump him back down regardless of stats? I don't buy that argument and don't think a competing team is worried about massive hypotheticals over 4 years from now. That is like making decision due to a top prospect in A+ ball and assuming he will be a force in three years. All signs point to it being about giving Shaw a chance to rebound, thus not making Hiura a part time guy...and also preserving the depth/versatility with the roster. They could have sent a pitcher away, but why do that? So Hiura plays once or twice a week? Stearns never said it was about defense, that is just the excuse people say he could use for the reason. Hiura will be back after Shaw either doesn't hit or hits well enough to push someone off the roster. Unfortunately Thames is the one hitting right now because logistically he makes the most sense to boot off the roster for the lefty Shaw. Sadly for us the RHB Aguilar is stinking up the joint. I also don't think Stearns is a dramatic person and realizes two weeks of Hiura gone is unlikely to be the difference in 5, 3, or even 2 wins. There will be at least a dozen non-moves or moves that will be way costlier than this and people are taking it way too seriously. Sticking with Aguilar or some bullpen arm blowing up constantly is probably five times more costly in the win column. Waiting till the end of July to make trades costs teams wins every single year. Claudio pitching against righties....way more costly. This move is like any other move. There is risk, but a lot of reward too if Shaw starts hitting again.
  12. Im more impressed with his delivery he has as much control as he does. I know scouts don’t like the “back end” of his delivery’s, but it works for him. Usually if a guy pitches like that it would not be pleasant.
  13. I recall watching him a few times this year (watch a lot of SEC ball). I would label Small’s ceiling as that pitcher who doesn’t have flashy stuff, but somehow consistently puts up a cool 3.50 ERA consistently. His college stats are sexy, but I’m not really convinced it translates that well. The “messing with timing” thing is legit, not sure how that will translate. Can’t say I am a Small expert though. I had to watch a few videos to refresh my memory of him this last year. I prefer to see high ceiling guys with the first pick of the draft, but I don’t say “boring” in a bad way...just for my draft watching enjoyment that wasn’t very exciting.
  14. I doubt it. The bonus pool stuff is majorly overblown. This draft isn’t likely to have anyone exciting that will drop to the 60s to go overslot on. I just don’t see that. They went with their top guy in my opinion. This kid isn’t that much of a reach and unlikely to save much in bonus pool money.
  15. Wow, surprising pick for the Cubs. Seems like a huge reach, not much ceiling pick. Maybe they are trying to fix their bullpen quickly! Almost not kidding.
  16. I think that is fairly recent. I remember when I was deciding on one that was available.
  17. $10-$15mil or about 30% more are numbers I have seen before. Maybe the money figure is a little outdated and needs slight inflation adjustment. It isn't crazy money and that is why I question the Brewers making this move for that. Is a team competing really worried about $7mil more on a payroll nearly 6 years away? I really think that is a load of BS. Because most of the money from Super-Two is the final year of arby.
  18. Even if this moves is a total disaster (not having Hiura for a few weeks) it probably won't even rank Top 10 worst decisions Stearns made in 2019.
  19. Hey if you want to use something that isn't errors we could point to his horrendous weak arm or the terrible range it creates. He also had one wicked throw the other day when he had no chance at 1B that probably lands 10 rows deep into the stands more often than not. He was not pretty in his short stint...and honestly, never will be good. I would guess never even average. That is okay though because I don't think he needs to be, but that doesn't change the fact his defense is not good.
  20. Honestly this came down to: #1 Being determined to give Shaw another chance right away and not option him #2 Keeping depth and flexibility #3 Hiura staying as a part time game was obviously not an option Those three things only provided one option and that was to send Hiura down. Thames and Aguilar both cannot be optioned, so neither could go. Many are going to hate this move, but looking at the big picture I like it. It provides us not only the opportunity to see if Shaw can turn it around, but it also allows us to see if we can fix 1B. Because if Shaw hits he or Moustakas can slide over to 1B and we can dump/trade one of Aguilar/Thames. Which in the long run could be a major help vs. the small amount of time Hiura could find himself in AAA. If Shaw sucks, what do we lose? Two weeks of Hiura? The likelihood that has a major impact on wins is...unlikely. If Shaw can help solve 1B that could outweigh the loss of Hiura short term by a lot. Because if we can't fix 1B with the help of Shaw realistically you are waiting till late July to find a fix. I see quite a bit of reward going this route and not that much risk.
  21. Potentially...like 4 years from now and only hypothetically if he is actually something pretty good. Which despite popular belief...is still too soon to really know. A lot can happen by then. I still think this move is more hoping Shaw gets it going, but obviously the possibility to save future money helps the decision.
  22. Travis Shaw was quite the fan favorite the last two years....about to become whipping boy if he doesn't hit.
